Philips Announces That All Of Their TV’s In 2015 Will Carry The Android TV Platform

Android TV seems to be making a much bigger push into the living room than its predecessor, Google TV, as we’re hearing now that Philips will be building it in to all of their 2015 TV models. Right now there is only one single device running Android TV, and that’s the Nexus Player, but Philips isn’t alone as other top name brands will be offering TV’s with Android TV built in too. We’ll end up seeing stuff from Samsung, Sony, and likely LG too as Android TV grows and expands, and earlier this morning during their announcement of Google Cast for audio, Google briefly mentioned the coming of new Android TV products this year so more TV’s are sure to fall into that category.

Philips announced that it will bake in Google’s living room based Android platform into Full HD and 4K TV’s so there will be no shortage of offerings and choices for those looking into Philips as a new TV option this year. What we can expect for prices and exact timing availability is still uncertain, but hopefully we’ll see some stuff sooner than later. Android TV has already proven that it’s much more capable and user friendly than Google TV ever was, and that is likely a reason why we’re seeing so many OEM’s jump on board to offer products that run the platform.

While Android TV was debuted last year and has only thus far produced one product for us to purchase, 2015 should end up being a big year for Android TV and open up many more choices to the consumer looking to add Android TV to their home. I stated this last year when Sony announced they would be offering an Android TV based television, that having the ability baked in makes it much simpler as you have no need for an extra piece of equipment to plug into and HDMI port, thus making for less clutter, although this certainly doesn’t matter to everyone. Nevertheless, Philips seems to find it better to focus on adding it into the products they were already planning on making rather than developing a standalone Android TV box or player. Would you consider a Philips TV with Android TV built in?
