Gmail Google Now Package Tracking Card is Showing Up or Some Google Apps Users

If you have attached your life to a Google Apps account (like a work Gmail account that uses a domain – ex: kellex@droid-life.com), you are probably well aware of its many limitations when it comes to newly introduced services or features by Google. Apps like Inbox launch first without GApps support, which can be frustrating for those who think they are on the cutting edge of technology, but are often held back by the type of Gmail account they use.

One of the longest standing delays in features for Google Apps users has been full Google Now support. What I mean is that Gmail Google Now cards still to this day do not work with GApps accounts. These are cards that are created based off of emails received in your inbox, like packaging tracking cards from shipping notices or hotel, flight, and restaurant cards that created from confirmation emails. Google even states on their Google Now support pages that “Some features, such as Gmail Now cards, aren’t available when using Google Now with a Google Apps account.”

Sucks, right? Well, we have good news! Things seem to be changing without a word out of Google. Our very own GApps machine, Tim, has seen the package tracking card within the last week, as has another reader. Look at the image above!

We aren’t sure if Google will make this news official in the near future or if they are just leaving it for all of us to discover on our own. We also haven’t been able to confirm if the other Gmail Google Now cards are showing up, but this is at least a great start.

Other Google Apps users who also use Google Now, noticed any new cards lately?

Cheers Dominick!

DROID Turbo Owners, How’s Lollipop Treating You?

Last week, the DROID Turbo was updated by Verizon and Motorola to run Android 5.1, after a very long wait by owners. Given that the Turbo was running Kit Kat up until last week, Turbo owners are still probably getting used to all of the changes inside Lollipop, and we want to know how it’s going for you so far.

We have seen various reports from owners on reddit and XDA, claiming that battery life has been slightly affected after the update, with standby times becoming shorter thanks to Lollipop. Although, a few folks claim a factory reset will fix any battery issues.

Either way, let’s hear how Lollipop is treating you down in the comments section.

Best Deal Yet: Unlocked Galaxy S6 for $499 (Black, Gold, White, or Blue Available)

The best deal we have seen to date for a brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 just popped up over at eBay. For just $499, you can own an unlocked GSM Galaxy S6 in black, white, gold, or that brilliantly bright blue that has yet to make its way to any US carrier.

This is model SM-G920F, which is one of the two unlocked international models of this year’s flagship from Samsung. It should work without a hiccup on AT&T, but should also have no issues on T-Mobile. I’m currently using SM-G920I (the other international model) and have had great service on both carriers.

At $499, you are looking at a significant discount when compared to the full retail prices that AT&T and T-Mobile charge you. T-Mobile and AT&T want $680 and $685, respectively.

Free shipping is included.

Instagram Rolling Out 1080p Photos to Your Timeline

Big news for Instagram fans this morning, as a spokesman for the company confirmed plans to roll out support for the uploading of 1080p photos to the service. As most users on Android are likely aware, Instagram resizes your photos to just 640×640, but with our smartphones featuring more powerful image sensors than they did a few years ago, the uploaded photos never quite match the original photos in terms of quality.

Instagram did not state when the update will be rolled out to users everywhere, but the first batch of users should start seeing a crispier feed starting today. It could be a subtle backdoor change, or could take a complete app update, but we don’t know the exact specifics quite yet.

I am currently running version 7.1.1 and may be seeing a bit higher quality of photos, but to the human eye, it is a bit hard to tell.

Let us know if your IG feed is looking better today.

HTC Posts Unaudited Q2 2015 Results, $166M Net Loss on $1.07B of Revenue

HTC posted its unaudited Q2 results for 2015 this morning, foreshadowing more bad news for the struggling Android OEM. Preliminary results show HTC at an operating loss of $166 million on $1.07 billion of unaudited revenue for Q2. Net loss before tax is right around $256 million, and after tax its $260 million.

The unaudited numbers should match up nicely against HTC’s predictions from April, which suggested the company would see a 29% revenue decrease year-over-year. Sadly, with what appears to be a solid amount of effort to promote its One M9 device, HTC can’t seem to catch a break.

These numbers likely won’t help the company fight off possible acquisition rumors, much like the one we saw involving ASUS. However, with a new CEO at the helm as of this past March, there is still time to change things around. If we know anything about HTC, it’s that they will continue to fight.

We will have to wait and see HTC’s finalized numbers, but things are not looking too good as of this moment.

To celebrate its 20th birthday, Amazon has a special treat coming for Prime members. According to a press release, this one-day event, called Prime Day, will host more deals than that of Black Friday, where shoppers can take advantage of numerous online Lightning Deals, Deals of the Day, and receive Prime’s fast, 2-day shipping for free.

Exclusive to Prime members in the US, U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria, the event is set to kick off on July 15 at midnight. However, categories will likely include electronics, toys, clothing, sports, and outdoors items.

Amazon claims this day will be a bigger shopping event than Black Friday, and to pull that off, we would expect the company has some crazy deals planned. If you still are on the fence about a Prime membership, now would be a good time to sign up. And don’t worry, even if you are on a free 30-day trial, you are eligible for the deals.

Start the countdown.

Telltale Games, the publishers of interactive story games from The Walking Dead to Game of Thrones, released a full trailer for its upcoming game made in partnership with Mojang, the creators of Minecraft. The game is called Minecraft: Story Mode, putting you in the shoes of Jesse, as he and his group of friends set out on a journey to save their little block world from total destruction.

Telltale set out to create their own interpretation of the Minecraft universe, while sticking to what makes Minecraft so popular among audiences of all ages. Mystery Motorola Phone Hits FCC, Looks Like an Unlocked Turbo Charging Flagship

A mystery Motorola phone stopped off at the FCC (ID IHDT56UC2) a couple of days ago looking like a phone that could be the company’s next unlocked flagship. I say that because the phone is slightly bigger than the DROID Turbo, supports almost every single LTE band (sans Verizon’s), 802.11ac MIMO WiFi, carrier aggregation (LTE Advanced), and works with Motorola’s Turbo Charger.

There have been rumors floating about recently suggesting that Motorola may introduce a phone with a 5.5-inch QHD display, which would fit the description of a phone that measures in slightly bigger than the Turbo with its 5.2-inch display. In fact, a benchmark of a Motorola phone under codename “Kinzie” said specifically that Motorola has a phone with a 5.5-inch QHD display.

Take a look at the measurements of the phone below. This Motorola phone under model number “5137” sports measurements of 153.6×75.3mm and a diagonal length of 161.8mm. The DROID Turbo weighed in at 143.49×73.33mm and a diagonal length of 154.49mm. See, slightly bigger. (Also, side note, but the diagonal measurement is not of the display, so don’t try to convert that to screen size. It’s a measurement of the top corner of the phone to the opposite bottom corner.)

Screen Shot 2015-07-06 at 7.03.49 AM

Outside of measurements, we are seeing support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 25, and 41. It also supports GSM bands 2, 4, and 5, which should make this perfect for either AT&T or T-Mobile. Seeing Sprint LTE bands in there is a bit odd, though, because we couldn’t find any mention of CDMA compatibility.

Screen Shot 2015-07-06 at 7.02.18 AM

As I mentioned above, we are also seeing testing for MIMO WiFi and LTE Advanced, so this phone should be really fast when you attempt to download almost anything. Qualcomm introduced carrier aggregation (LTE-A) with the Snapdragon 800 line, so there is a pretty good chance that this phone is running either the Snapdragon 808 or 810.

In terms of sneaky lit tidbits tucked inside these FCC docs, we may have stumbled onto a couple of things. First, the phone was tested with one of Motorola’s Turbo Chargers, so we know it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology. With that said, the FCC actually tested the phone with 3 separate chargers. One is a regular Motorola AC adapter, another is the Turbo Charger (SPN5864A), and the third is a mystery, but does have a model number similar to the Turbo Charger. We did a search for it (SPN5886A) and came up empty. Perhaps, Motorola has an even better (or just smaller) Turbo Charger in the works for this year’s line of phones.

Also, the FCC ID information has been tucked inside the phone’s Settings menu, which the FCC says can be accessed by heading into Settings>About Phone>Regulatory Information.

Finally, and don’t put too much into this, but I did find mention of a microSD card in one of the testing configuration. So keep open the idea that Motorola may give us a microSD card slot once again.

If we find more, we’ll update this post.

Cheers Justin!
