Beautiful ‘Time Store’ App Updated With New Watch Faces, Features

The Time Store app in Google Play received an update over the weekend, bringing additional watch faces for users to play with, as well as new features when applying a face. If you haven’t heard of Time Store, know that the app lets you scroll through different watch faces, some of which are free to use, others being $0.99, but the idea is that it’s your one-stop shop for Android Wear watch faces.

As for new features, when applying any of the various watch faces offered, the user can now select to show or hide a battery percentage ticker on the face, something which was not available before. You can also choose to hide the logo, date, and choose between a sweeping or non-sweeping second hand.

For new faces, included in the update are Oliver, Tittan, and Chaccka. From what I have seen so far, all of the faces look very well made, fitting perfectly on my Moto 360.

As an added note, this app is extremely fun to play with, full of gorgeous scrolling animations and luxurious transitions. Adjectives.

If you rock an Android Wear device, check out Time Store.

Deal: Verizon Moto X (1st Gen) is Just $110 at eBay Today

Should you buy a Moto X (1st gen) on Verizon, knowing that the 3rd gen model is more than likely arriving in the next couple of months? Not unless you really need a phone to get you buy for eight or nine weeks. Sure, it’s still probably a decent phone, but it is approaching that 2-year-old mark where phones magically start figuring out ways to shut down so that you’ll upgrade to something newer.

But hey, if you need a phone to get you by for a minute, this isn’t a terrible option. eBay is currently selling a manufacturer refurbished Moto X (1st gen) for $109 without a contract. It should have Lollipop in a couple of weeks too…maybe.

Free shipping!

Mystery HTC Phone on Its Way to Verizon Stops by FCC

A random HTC device stopped by the FCC today, looking all sorts of ready for Verizon. To be honest, though, I have no idea what this phone is. The FCC calls it a “smartphone” and says that it has support for all of Verizon’s typical CDMA and LTE bands, along with a couple of GSM bands for global roaming, but those are the only details we have.

Could this be the One M9+ on its way to the US? Eh, maybe. Is it another budget HTC device, like the Desire 612? Could be that too. Is this something completely new from HTC that we haven’t even been tipped to? That would be something.

Below, you will see a table from the filing that lists out the fact that this is a smartphone, but it also walks through the bands. One interesting note in the “Remark” section mentions that this phone has “two kinds of battery option” and maybe even two types of LCD panels from two different manufacturers. Because of that, the FCC had to do extra testing for each battery and LCD, making this filing quite the long read.

Screen Shot 2015-06-22 at 1.47.01 PM

It does sound like this phone will have a removable back cover. The label location page shows that the FCC label, which is located on the battery, will be visible to users as they install the SIM card. I can’t think of another way that a giant FCC label on a battery would be visible unless the cover is removed. So now you have to wonder if that also means removable battery, especially with the FCC needing to test a couple of battery types.

Screen Shot 2015-06-22 at 1.39.35 PM Screen Shot 2015-06-22 at 1.53.07 PM

Any guesses as to what this phone may be? Anything we are missing in the filing?

Humble BulkyPix Bundle Features Type:Rider and Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf, Average Just $3.85

Over the next six days, you can pick up the latest Humble Bundle, featuring a great collection of games from publisher BulkyPix. Inside, buyers can gain access to Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf, Type:Rider, Jazz: Trump’s Journey, Meltdown, and more.

Currently, the average price, which unlocks all of the games, is at just $3.85. Considering that these games individually in Google Play would cost over $50, that’s a great deal. Any amount over that price can be sent directly to Humble Bundle’s partnered charity, or the developers, depending on how you want it split up. This Humble Bundle directly supports the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

If you need a few new games, and want to help a great cause, get on it.

Swarm Gets Mayorships, Like It had When It was Relevant as Foursquare

Foursquare used to be this social check-in app that friends and fellow Foursquarians took to to not only share their locations, but also because the whole experience was one big game where the world competed against one another. You wanted badges for checking in at certain types of restaurants and you wanted to be the mayor of your most-visited spots. Then one day, Foursquare punched itself in the face one-too-many times and decided it wanted to be Yelp, so it created this silly companion app called Swarm that was supposed to replace the check-in portion of Foursquare.

Unfortunately for Foursquare, the check-in portion of the app was all that really mattered to anyone. They liked the game and badges and mayorships. They didn’t need Foursquare to be Yelp. Unfortunately for users of Foursquare who now had to use Swarm for the check-in stuff, there was a quick realization that Swarm as a check-in app was pretty crappy. Why? Because Foursquare removed all the stuff that made checking in fun – the game, badges, and mayorships.

Here we are just over a year since Swarm was created and Foursquare is finally bringing back all of the things that matter. Badges (or “Stickers”) were brought back a couple of weeks ago. Today, Foursquare is giving us mayorships again, mayorships that you compete for on a global basis, not just with your friends.

Here is how they work:

The rules are simple: you’ll be the Mayor of a place if you’ve checked in more than anyone else in the last 30 days. Only 1 check-in per day counts and ties go to the reigning mayor. We’ve been tallying all of your check-ins from the past month, so go see if you’ve already proven yourself worthy of the Mayor crown at your local spots.

About time. Anyone care?

This Icon Pack is Hot: Glif

You need your weekly fix of icons, don’t you? This week’s hot icon pack is called Glif. I don’t think there is any hiding the fact that this icon pack is a playful take on an old-school comic book. Each uniquely designed icon sports black outlines, slightly washed colors, and a “glistening” white stripe.

At this time, Glif is still very much a work-in-progress. After an update that was issued last week, the pack is closing in on 400 icons, so we are obviously a long way from the 3,000+ that other packs contain. Still, the designer (onyxdev) seems to be incredibly focused on getting out as many icons as he can and is openly accepting submissions for icons you need themed.

Glif also features a whole bunch of retro-styled wallpapers, support for your favorite launchers, and a buttery smooth dashboard app.

Sony’s “Thinner Than Your Smartphone” 55-Inch 4K LED TV With Android TV is Now Up for Pre-Order

At this year’s CES, Sony unveiled a TV that got more traffic than just about every other TV I found myself in front of throughout the week. The popular TV was Sony’s 55-inch 4K “Ultra-Thin” LED model that ran Android TV. People couldn’t stop from halting in front if it to take a picture because it is insanely thin. Seriously, it was so crazy thin that even we (non-TV guys) stopped with mouths dropped to take a couple of pics (that we of course can’t find now).

Sony claims the TV is thinner than your smartphone or pencil at “approximately” 0.2-inches.

It also runs Android TV, so you get access to Google Play and many of its apps, is Cast ready, and has a “vanishing edge” screen. Really, though, all of us only care because of how thin this bad boy is. Look at the pic below and try to tell me you aren’t at least somewhat impressed.

We’re talking about it today because it’s now up for pre-order at Amazon for $2500. Yes, it’s expensive for a 120Hz TV, but Samsung’s new TVs are hovering right around that price point as well. (It should be at Best Buy before long as well.)

Any takers?

OnePlus Confirms Second Flagship Will Feature USB Type-C

Over on Twitter, OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will feature USB Type-C, possibly making it the first Android flagship device released with the feature. There is no confirmed release date for the device yet, but OnePlus seems rather confident in this fact, according to the tweet.

“We want to lead the way in power connectivity,” the company tweets. And yes, if they do include USB Type-C, they would be leading the way. Currently, the only other device rumored to launch this year with Type-C is the Galaxy Note 5, but that won’t be announced until September during IFA, most likely.

As we inch closer to an official unveiling and release, you can rest assured that OnePlus will continue to share additional details and specs for the OnePlus 2.

Deal: Buy a 64GB Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge at Full Retail, Get $100 Rebate From Samsung

T-Mobile is currently offering a free storage upgrade on Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge purchases that doubles your 32GB to 64GB or 64GB to 128GB at no extra cost. That’s a great deal and all, but Samsung may have just sweetened the deal for those who are actually interested in purchasing the 64GB version of the phone from T-Mobile. They are also offering a solid $100 off for those who buy the phone from other carriers.

Samsung’s “Ultimate Upgrade” promo that kicked off this weekend runs from June 21 through July 5. With this promo, Samsung will send you a $100 rebate should you buy a 64GB Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge at full retail “at the carrier or national retailer of your choice.” The point is to make up the $100 difference in 32GB and 64GB models.

You see how this could be an incredible deal for T-Mobile customers? T-Mobile is already upgrading you to 64GB at the price of the 32GB, but if you buy the phone out-right, you are then getting $100 from Samsung as well. So you could land a 64GB model from T-Mobile for $579. Not bad, right?

We cruised through the rebate details and don’t see any mention of T-Mobile models being excluded.

For the rest of you who aren’t interested in phones from T-Mobile, you are still eligible for a $100 rebate if you buy either the S6 or S6 Edge at full retail.

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Now Receiving Android 5.1.1 Update

The T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is now receiving an update to Android 5.1.1, build G900TUVU1FOF6. This update gives T-Mobile yet another of their phones the newest version of Android. A week ago, they posted a similar update for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

So what’s new in this update? T-Mobile added 5.1.1’s new anti-theft feature, which forces you (or someone who stole your phone) to login to your Google account even after a factory reset. The rest of the update should be Lollipop stability improvements and bug fixes.

T-Mobile claims that the update is 695MB. That seems excessive for such a minor update.

Let us know if you get it!

Google Intros 17 New Watch Faces for Android Wear

Google introduced 17 new watch faces for Android Wear users today, a few of which are from makers you have probably heard of before. Starting today, you can download an official Hello Kitty and Angry Birds watch face, or even a Terminator Genisys face.

While faces from big-name publishers are cool, we care a bit more for the designer-type watch faces. One which really caught our eye is the Kevin Tong “Robot” collection, which is customizable with plenty of different moving robots.

All of the new faces are now available on Google Play, and we are sure there is something for everyone.

Check out the new faces right here.

Sony Releases Android M Developer Preview for 12 Xperia Devices

Sony has shocked a few people this week, including myself, releasing an Android M Developer Preview build for a total of 12 Xperia devices. In a blog post, Sony goes over the importance of preparing for the official Android M launch, giving developers time to test apps and play with new APIs.

To be exact, the Android M preview has been released for the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia T3. In terms of device support, this is pretty impressive considering you don’t see any other OEM allowing for this.

Flashing Android M does not look to be overly complicated. All you will need to download is the file itself, binaries, and then verify your apps upon completion. Do note, Sony stresses that these builds are not meant for daily usage. You will need an unlocked bootloader, and in addition, the modem and the camera have not been implemented.

Now, if someone could go ahead and convince Samsung, LG, HTC, and Motorola that this is a cool thing, we’re in business.

This is Likely the New Moto G (3rd Gen) With Tweaked Design, 13MP and 5MP Cameras

Over the weekend, a random leak of what appears to be the new Moto G (3rd gen) showed up in a 2-minute video and series of pictures. The unit made public is clearly an engineering test model that lacks most Motorola branding, but does have all sort of identifiers to help Motorola track down whoever’s unit this was supposed to be.

The video shows, through a variety of benchmarks, all of the phones specs, along with the shape that the phone may take on when it’s finalized. According to this video, we are looking at another 5-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor, 1GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, Android 5.1.1, and LTE connectivity.

It looks, well, a lot like last year’s Moto G only it has a redesigned back panel that features a silver panel that houses the Motorola dimple, camera, and flash. We have seen this same shape leak in purported pictures of the new Moto X (3rd gen) as well.

Assuming Motorola sticks to the same Moto G formula as it has for the past couple of years, this phone should be well-priced at under $200.

This phone will likely launch around the time of the new Moto X.

Pebble Time Pre-Orders Now Open at Best Buy

Pebble Time, the new kids toy smartwatch from Kickstarter darling Pebble, is now available for pre-order from Best Buy. With Kickstarter orders almost all fulfilled, it’s time for everyone else to get in on the fun that is this new colorful e-paper experience. At $199, the Pebble Time in red, white, or black can be yours.

According to Best Buy, shipping should happen on or around July 20, in case you were wondering when your pre-order might arrive on your doorstep.

As you can tell, we have a Pebble Time in house. Our man Ron will soon be taking on review duties since he is well-versed in the world of Pebble, so stick around for that. What I can tell you from my short time with this watch is that the overall feel is very much like the original. It’s unapologetically plastic and probably isn’t going to convince anyone that it is a $200 smartwatch, especially when you compare it to something like the $200 ZenWatch that is more powerful, has a stainless steel body with hand-stitched leather strap, and a touch screen.

But Pebble is relying on its new UI to blow minds, along with 5-7 day battery life from its color e-paper display. Can it compete with the touchscreen options powered by Google or created by Apple? Only time will tell (lulz).

Moto X (2nd Gen) “Pure Edition” Getting Another New Android 5.1 Update

After announcing that it was pushing a soak test and another Lollipop update to a couple of Moto X (1st gen) units over the weekend, Motorola also snuck in a new 5.1 update to the Moto X (2nd gen) “Pure Edition.” I’m not sure why they didn’t take to G+ or any other outlet to announce the news, but it is indeed happening. The odd thing here is that comes about a month after Motorola supposedly already pushed an update to this version of the Moto X (2nd gen).

If you are currently running one of the various 5.1 builds out there for this phone, like 23.1.28 or 23.11.14, you may not be able to pull this (I certainly can’t). It seems like this update may be for those coming from KitKat rather than those of us who picked up early soak test builds of 5.1. It’s really tough to tell, especially without word from Motorola.

I can’t keep up anymore…anyone seeing this update? Can you tell us what version of Android you were running prior to this update?
