Report: Apple Will Turn Beats Music Into A New Streaming Service, Including An Android App

applebeats By now just about everyone knows about ostentatious headphone maker Beats - if you haven't seen them shilled by hip-hop stars and football players, you've seen them in custom-made corner displays at Best Buy. The company has also technically been a part of Apple since May of last year, presumably because a gold iPhone 6s just isn't complete without a matching pair of Champagne Studio Wireless headphones. But a more interesting question to ask is this: what will happen to Beats Music, the multi-platform streaming service that competes with the likes of Spotify?

Samsung Galaxy S5 also receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop tomorrow thanks to Sprint

Samsung Galaxy S5 water DSC05777

After learning that Sprint would begin rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the HTC One (M7), the #3 largest carrier in the US is now turning their sights to the Samsung Galaxy S5. According to Samsung’s FAQ page here , the Galaxy S5 is set to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop (software build G900PVPU1AOA6) as early as tomorrow, February 5th.

They didn’t really go into much detail in their changelog, only listing off Android OS update to v5.0 Lollipop (duh), Enhanced VoWiFi UI, and “Lumen tool bar removed.” Better than nothing, we suppose. For more on what you can expect from Lollipop, check out our Top 10 Android Lollipop Features post.

Facebook Messenger Comes To Google Glass As ‘Fessenger’ App

Screenshot (1374)

You may not be able to buy yourself a pair of the Google Glass explorer edition specs anymore, but that doesn’t mean development has stopped for the units that are already out there and still connected. A new Glassware application has surfaced for the head worn wearables today called Fessenger, which is essentially Facebook Messenger for Glass. Yes, if you avidly use Facebook Messenger as one of you top messaging apps on your mobile devices, now you can use Facebook Messenger from Google Glass too, which gives you one more way to be hands free no matter what you’re doing or where you’re going.

Fessenger works as a fully functional Glass counterpart to the regular mobile app, as you can send, receive, and reply to messages that come through Facebook messenger just as you would if you were using your phone or tablet. If the situation permits, speaking out your message and sending it off without having to touch your device is simple and quick, and I have to be honest it’s also rather cool. To send off a Fessenger message via Glass all you have to do is use the hotword, “OK Glass,” followed up by “post an update” and you’ll be on your way to fessaging on Google Glass.

It’s great to see continued development for this platform as Google has begun transitioning Glass into a new space and under new leadership, and we can’t help but wonder where the direction is they’ll be headed with Glass down the road. We’re actually kind of surprised that a Facebook Messenger app for Glass wasn’t available long before now, as Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular messaging apps out there at the moment right alongside Whatsapp. Nevertheless, it’s here now and that’s all that matters isn’t it? If you’re still using Google Glass and you use Messenger, you can head over to the source page to get started on getting Fessenger set up and begin sending your messages from Glass instead of your handset. Is there anybody out there that finds this particularly awesome? Now if only Glass would get support for other messaging apps like Groupme.

Sprint HTC One M7 To See Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA Update Landing Tomorrow

HTC Logo

There are has been a lot of talk about HTC in the recent weeks, over their soon to be released next generation One device, the HTC One M9. That said, the HTC One M8 and even the HTC One M7 have also been hitting the headlines quite a bit over the last few days. This was because at February landed, HTC hit their self-imposed ninety-day deadline for delivery Android 5.0 (Lollipop) to their One M8 and One M7 customers. As the date approached, it became clear that HTC were biting too close to the wire in getting Lollipop out and had to graciously admit that it was not going to happen in time.

During the announcement, HTC did not allude as to how long the devices would be delayed beyond their original ninety-day deadline, but did say they were working as hard as they could to get Lollipop out, as soon as they could. It was also worded in the announcement that this was mainly affecting “some carrier’ variants and as such it was presumed, Lollipop was imminently about to land on certain carrier or regional variants. This seemed to be the case when news then broke over the next couple of days that Lollipop had landed in India on the One M8. This was quickly followed by (limited) reports that the One M8 had began to see an update in the U.S. and confirmation that it was being rolled out in Canada.

That said, there was not much news on the One M7 front. However, that looks set to change. Known HTC Social media-ist Mo Versi has been at it on Twitter again and has just confirmed that the HTC One M7 is due to begin receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update starting tomorrow. There is one catch though, it seesm only Sprint One M7 devices will be seeing the update. There was no clear indication on when other carriers in the U.S. will begin pushing the update out, although the Versi tweet did finish with “others coming soon”. So presumably it is only a matter of days away. As for the current Sprint update, this will be in the form of Android 5.0.1. So if you are a Sprint customer, keep a look out for the OTA tomorrow.
