DirecTV opens NFL Sunday Ticket to users without satellite service, but there is a catch
Big news from DirecTV today, but is it? Starting with the 2014 NFL Season, you don’t need a DirecTV subscription to enjoy NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV is opening the coveted service to anyone that wants to subscribe to the package, allowing them to stream it to their mobile devices or other media streamers. No satellite required.
Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Well before you get too excited, there is a catch. It appears that not everyone will be eligible. DirecTV is looking to only offer this to those that can’t get the satellite service like apartment buildings or if there is something like a tree that would block your line of sight. However, we suspect this will be inconsistent. I can see certain addresses being shown as eligible when they shouldn’t be and vice versa.
There is a good chance that you could call them and tell them that you can’t get the service because there are trees in your way or that you belong to an association that won’t allow dishes. Of course, if there was ever service at the location, you could be SOL. We really don’t know how stringent DirecTV is going to be on this, but it certainly is worth a shot, especially if you refuse to sign up for their basic service.
If DirecTV allows you to sign up for the Ticket, there will be 3 tiers to choose from. $199 gets you the ability to stream to any PC, tablet, or phone. $239 gets you consoles like the Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. For $329, you can stream to ALL devices and they will also include the Red Zone channel and the new Fantasy Zone channel.
Good Luck!!

Google Wallet updated with ability to store gift cards and more
Google Wallet has been updated today with a couple of really nice features. As you know, Google Wallet already lets you store your loyalty cards, which makes things a lot easier. With this update, you can now store your gift cards for the same easy access. Just like loyalty cards, you can snap a picture of your gift card or enter the information from it in the app to store it. If you received an electronic version, you can click “Save to Google” directly from the e-gift. Once your gift card is in your Wallet, just show your phone to the cashier at checkout.
This update also includes the ability to request money from friends with the Google Wallet app or Gmail. This is perfect for those friends of yours that like to mooch a little too much. You can also send money using your debit card, and lastly, Wallet will now display in Spanish.
As usual, Google is rolling out this update in stages so you might not get the update right away. Hit one of the Play Store links below to see if you can download the update now. If not, we have the APK download link from XDA as well.

Amazon Prime Instant Video might finally come to Android devices
Even though Amazon has their own Kindle line of tablets powered by a forked version of Android, they have made the majority of their apps available to other Android devices except for one. That one app is Amazon Prime Instant Video, and as this point in the game, we just assumed they would never release it. However, it looks like the tide might be changing.
According to PC Advisor, Amazon will launch an Android version soon. This isn’t from unnamed sources either. This news comes from Amazon Instant Video director Russell Morris. What’s interesting is that he told PC Advisor back at Christmas, but they are only revealing this news now. Were they asked to not divulge the news until now? We have no idea.
Assuming this does indeed come true, this would be the smartest move Amazon could make. Opening up Prime Instant Video to all of Android would yield them a potential of 1 billion new users. I’m still trying to figure out why Amazon held back releasing an Android version when they released an iOS version. If they saw the rest of Android as competition, wouldn’t iOS devices represent the competition too?
Let’s hope this news pans out, but I’m not holding my breath.

Amazon Instant Video app is reportedly coming soon to Google Play
Android users with Amazon Prime accounts haven’t had very many options when looking to stream videos through their Instant Video app. While it’s true an Android app has been awhile for quite sometime now, it’s been exclusive to Amazon’s line of Kindle Fire tablets. We’ve pretty much came to terms that it’s there the app would remain, but it seems the app is reportedly getting ready for its Google Play debut — and it’s about damn time.
PC Advisor is claiming the exclusive after they spoke with Amazon marketing director Russell Morris at a Christmas party (in July?). Morris apparently mentioned a Google Play release of Amazon Prime Instant Video is “imminent.” Other than that, details are scarce. No word on exact timing or whether the app will offer support for Google’s streaming Chromecast dongle, but we can only hope for the best.
With Amazon Prime Instant Video available on the iPad and Kindle Fire tablets, it only makes sense for Amazon to finally include their customers who own one of the many Android devices on the market.
