Gmail Updates Web Calendar

Calendar Image

The next time you visit calendar.google.com, you may notice some slight changes.

Now, when viewing your calendar, updates will happen without needing to be refreshed. So if you get an invite for a certain time, or another party updates and event, you will see that happen immediately instead of after a refresh.

Also, when you want to see which calendars you are viewing on top of each other, the ones you are looking at will automatically move to the top of your “Other Calendars” list. (See photo above.)

Lastly, the back button in your browser should be improved and working swimmingly. Go check it out and see if any of these updates improve your calendar experience.

Samsung announces Galaxy A5 and A3 with metal unibody design, 5MP front facing cameras [VIDEO]

Samsung Galaxy A5 kids

We’ve heard about Samsung’s A series many times in recent months. The subject of countless leaks, tonight, on the eve of Halloween, Samsung is formally announcing their metal-clad Samsung Galaxy A5 and Samsung Galaxy A3.

Samsung says the new phone line feature a more “trendy” design aimed at a younger demographic (probably those who love the look of the all metal iPhone) thanks to an all metal unibody exterior and a side profile Samsung says is their thinnest smartphone yet (because paper thin smartphones are still a thing). The Galaxy A5 measures in at just barely 6.7mm thin, while the A3 is 6.9mm (same as the iPhone 6). Yeah, these things are slim. There’s 5 colors too (no doubt limited by region): Pearl White, Midnight Black, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue and Champagne Gold.

The other interesting hardware spec is the front facing camera. Samsung opted for a 5MP shooter on the front because the kids, they’re all about the selfies nowadays. You know what the kids aren’t into? The smartphone spec arms race we saw this year. There’s no 2K displays or octa-core processors to be found on these devices. No, sir. The A series is all about style and aesthetics. Here’s where we’re at in terms of hardware:

Introducing the Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5, Samsung’s slimmest phones to date

Samsung has announced two new devices, the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5, that will satisfy your mid-range device needs in an extremely thin, metal constructed frame. The new devices are designed with social networking in mind and will be promoted for the younger crowd.

Both the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 are designed in a similar fashion, but the A5 is clearly the larger and more powerful device of the two. While the Galaxy A5 may be larger when measured edge to edge, it is the thinner of the two, measuring in at just 6.7mm, while the thicker Galaxy A3 also measures in a fraction under 7mm itself.

Samsung Galaxy A5 Group Selfie

In supporting social networking, you should expect a handful of tools to improve your selfies. With a 5MP front camera listed for both models, Samsung lists Wide Selfie, Rear-cam Selfie and Beauty Face Features as camera features for the new phones. The selfie technology includes the ability to automatically focus on a person’s face and even an animated gif mode, for a bit of life in your social media stream.

Both the Galaxy A5 and A3 will come packing a 1.2GHz Quad-core processor, 4G connectivity and include Galaxy line specific features, including Ultra-Power Saving Mode, Private Mode and Multiscreen. In addition, the A3 and A5 will come with adjustable audio, which will adapt to noise levels in your surrounding environment to adapt and enhance sound output of the devices.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 is the larger of the two new phones, bringing a 5.0-inch HD Super AMOLED display. As mentioned, it will clock through tasks using a 1.2GHz Quad-core processor. Backing the SoC will be 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with support for microSD up to 64GB and a larger 13MP rear shooter.

If battery life is of concern for you, we’ll be eager to see what day-to-day usage of the Galaxy A5 can do on the 2300mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy A3 is a little less impressive on the specs sheet, good thing we like to get our hands on these devices before we judge them. Samsung introduces the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 for social-focused consumers

samsung_galaxy_a_lifestyle

The phone a person own says a lot about them, right? Samsung, and other manufacturers, think so. The company has announced the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. Consumers focused on social networking are the target with these two devices. The design is what is important here.

The outside is a metal unibody and Samsung plans on offering it in multiple colors. The Galaxy A5 will be available in Pearl White, Midnight Black, Soft Pink, Light Blue, Platinum Silver, and Champagne Gold. The Galaxy A3, though, limits your choices to Pearl White, Soft Pink, and Light Blue.

The specifications for the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 will not blow anyone away, but that is not the point. The two models offer 5- and 4.5-inch qHD Super AMOLED displays, respectively. Each has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The Galaxy A5 has 2GB of RAM while the Galaxy A3 has 1GB.

Photography is where the most valuable component lies. The rear camera is 13MP/8MP depending upon the model. But the front camera is the true star. It is 5MP for both devices. That is good for a front camera, but it doesn’t really match HTC’s Desire Eye that has 13MP up front.

Basically, the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 are for young people to fulfill their stylish selfie-taking needs.

Sony’s Latest Infographic Shows off the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact’s Main Features

Sony-Xperia-Z3-Tablet-Compact-AH-7

Not too long ago, Sony maintained its routine of bi-annual unveilings of new flagship smartphones with the release of the Xperia Z3. However, it wasn’t their flagship device that got the most buzz as most people were more impressed by the Xperia Z3’s baby brother, the Z3 Compact. Many smartphone manufacturers release less expensive “mini” or “compact” versions of their flagships but rarely do these maintain the impressive specs of their brethren. This wasn’t the case with the Z3 Compact as it was just as powerful as the Z3, just in a more compact package. Almost lost in the din surrounding the release of these two devices was the news that Sony was also releasing a tablet version of their Z3 phones, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. This is unfortunate because the Z3 Tablet Compact has some extremely impressive specs, especially when compared to many of the other Android tablets available today. Sony, to their credit, is doing its best to drum up some attention for their latest tablet and today they released an infographic that shows off the many noteworthy features of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

Sony’s newest tablet is available for pre-order now and will run Android 4.4 KitKat, features an 8-inch IPS display with 1200 x 1920 pixels, a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 4500 mAh battery, a 2.1 MP front facing camera and an 8 MP rear camera, and will also come with some other added features that are fairly common in the Android word these days, like NFC capabilities and microSD support. While these specs are quite commendable, there are a few other features that distinguish the Z3 Tablet Compact from the other Android tablets that are on the market today and these are what the infographic focuses on. The Z3 Tablet Compact is the thinnest and lightest 8-inch tablet available in the world today and the infographic reinforces this fact in a rather clever way by showing how thin and light the tablet is in comparison to other everyday items like a Blu-Ray case or a couple of bananas. The Z3 Tablet Compact also has the highest dust and water resistance rating of any other tablet available today and Sony does a great job of using the infographic to show just how easy it is for our devices to get damaged by these things.

Considering the majority of press and attention in regards to tablets these days is going towards the Nexus 9 vs. iPad Air 2 competition it’s certainly a smart move on Sony’s part to pack as much punch as possible in their latest tablet offering. Here’s hoping that it’s enough to shift some of the consumer focus away from these other tablets. If you’re impressed by what the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has to offer and would like to get your hands on one then, as stated earlier, it’s available for pre-order now with an expected shipping date of November 2nd and will cost $499.99.

Here Are Some Shots of the Oppo R5, With an iPhone 6 Comparison

Oppo R5 Sina image_1

We had lots of content yesterday for the new king of thin phones around, Oppo R5. Oppo launched this handset alongside Oppo N3 during company’s press event in Singapore. The device itself looks rather great, it sports and extremely thing body (just 4.85mm) along with the metal frame build. Its camera is sticking on the back a bit, but that’s what you have to deal with when you get such a thin phone. Oppo R5 is actually thinner than the Gionee Elife S5.1, which held the title of the thinnest phone around thus far. We did cover this phone’s launch and everything connected to it yesterday and now we bring you a lot more images of the device itself, courtesy of Sina. If you take a look at the gallery down below you’ll notice a ton of images showing the device from multiple angles so that you can get a good look at it. The device even gets compared to the iPhone 6 in these images, Oppo R5 actually resembles the iPhone 6 in a way. Anyhow, if you’re interested in checking that out, take a look at the gallery below the article.

Oppo R5 is sporting a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) AMOLED display, which is smaller than the N3’s, but the resolution is same and R5’s display has a higher ppi, of course. Oppo managed to pack 2GB of RAM into this device as well as 16GB of internal storage. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 SoC, a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz. On the back of the device, you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel camera which sports Sony’s Exmor IMX214 sensor (f2.0 aperture) while there’s a 5-megapixel shooter on the front of the device. This handset also sports VOOC rapid charging like the Oppo Find 7 and Oppo N3, which should provide crazy fast charging times to its 2000mAh battery, should take it from 0 to 75% in less than half an hour. 2000mAh located inside this device is far from being a big battery, especially if we consider the 5.2-inch 1080p display which is sucking battery life, it’s going to be interesting to see battery tests on this device. 148.9 x 74.5 x 4.85mm are Oppo N3’s measurements and the device weighs 155 grams. Oppo R5 will be available for 2999 Yuan ($490) in China in the coming months.
