LG allegedly working on G Watch successor for this fall

LG_G_Watch_Main_Screen_On_TA

Android Wear and its two launch devices, the G Watch and Gear Live, have not been not the market for six months and one manufacturer is apparently already facing a fall release for a successor. The Korean Times is reporting that LG is looking to IFA 2014 in a few weeks to introduce the G Watch 2. The reason to release a new smartwatch this fall is to combat the rumored smartwatch from Apple. In addition to Apple, Motorola is readying its Moto 360 and ASUS has had something in its pipeline for a debut next month.

To be a real differentiator, LG is putting all of the members of its family to work. LG Display would work on the display while LG Inotek and LG Chem would develop the battery. Everything would remain in-house, for the most part, to ensure quality. An in-house processor, though, is not believed to be ready for the G Watch 2 and instead another Qualcomm chipset would step forward. What is even more interesting is the fact that LG has allegedly been approached by various of the world’s top watchmakers for a collaboration. The idea behind that is brand recognition. LG would be able to back itself with a company that already has a good foothold in the industry.

Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 is flatter and sharper with a big focus on usability

miui_6_sample

Xiaomi has announced the latest version of its custom Android user interface and it looks a lot like iOS. MIUI 6 focuses on simplistic and intuitive design, enhanced usability, and reliable security. Regardless of why you think MIUI looks the way it does, Xiaomi has a pretty damn nice user interface on its hands.

Hit the break for more details.

For the design, Xiaomi has overhauled MIUI so that the software can present users with what they would like to do in a seamless way. Everything is “so natural and effortless” because complexity is out of the picture. Key applications have been redesigned and everything is much more organized. To be visually pleasing, MIUI 6 uses a ton of color on top of mostly white backgrounds.

miui_6_sample_notifications

The feature set of MIUI has grown greatly with this new version. MIUI 6 will identify unknown numbers and attach a wealth of information to service call contacts. The home screen now has gesture support and the notification shade has been revamped with a cleaner look and new toggles. The Notification Center of MIUI 6 collects everything and has unfolding notifications and floating calls for everything including calls. This is useful as it keeps everything off of the display when a user is busy doing something. Users can also apply settings to specific apps’ notifications.

Using Xiaomi’s Mi Cloud nets 10GB of free storage, but much of that only works with the company’s other products (like the Mi Phone, Mi Pad, and Mi TV).

miui_6_sample_performance_and_security

The performance and security of enhancements with MIUI 6 allow users to not even bother downloading outside safety tools and services. It reads for viruses and malicious apps and checks permissions before permitting anything. The Virus Scan feature will apparently “check and kill” a virus before an app is installed and the damage has been done. Clean Master a bundled tool that makes sure your device is running up to speed with enough memory to spare.

LG Rumored To Be Planning G Watch 2 Announcement For IFA In Just A Few Weeks

LG-G-Watch We've seen some shorter than usual product cycles as of late, but this would be crazy—The Korea Times is reporting that LG will be at IFA in early September with the LG G Watch 2. Yeah, a whole two months after the original G Watch started shipping.

LG_G_Watch

According to The Korea Times' LG contact, the device will still run Android Wear, but it will be a "serious game changer." The screen will apparently be based on AMOLED tech instead of LCD, but no word on if it'll have four corners or none.

Google’s underwater data cables are now shark bite victims

underwater_cable

With a massive fiber-optic cable spanning across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to the United States, Google should expect some issues. While that project will not be completed until sometime in 2016, Google is already working on fixing other data cables in the same area after sharks have taken to biting them. These cables are carrying data between continents are largely responsible for the Internet being able to function.

The belief is that the magnetic field from the cables’ high voltage is resembling the same as a fish. So these sharks are approaching what they think are fishes; however, they are sadly mistaken and instead chomp onto data cables. This issue has only come recently as copper cables have begun getting phased out.

Time is running out to get your hands on the awesome Humble Mobile Bundle 6. Three new games were added this week, with Carmageddon, Time Surfer, and the wonderfully hilarious Llamas With Hats. All you have to do to get your hands on this awesome bundle that already included great titles like Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf, Duet Premium, and Eliss Infinity, is pay whatever the average is at the time of purchase, which at the time of writing this, remains at $4.56 to unlock all 9 great titles in this bundle. Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf is more than that all by itself normally if you’re unlocking the second and third acts. There’s just a little under two days left to pick this bundle up, so head to the Humble Bundle Website from the link to grab it if you haven’t already.

The Original Goat Simulator Is Coming To Androidgoat-simulator

Just a recap, the original Goat Simulator hit PC game that you could purchase through Steam is coming to Android sometime in the future. We hope that “sometime” means in the near future, like any time before Christmas, although it’s entirely possible that the Coffee Stain Studios may no plans to have the game out on Android before 2015. We reported on this earlier in the week, but for anyone that may have missed it, soon(again, hopefully)you’ll be able to enjoy all the hilarity and bug ridden sillyness of Goat Simulator even on the go. Will you Goat?

Get Your Next Dose Of Regular Show With Cartoon Network’s Ride Em’ RigbyRide Em' Rigby

If you’re a Regular Show fan, you’re probably more than familiar with Rigby. In this side scrolling endless runner of sorts, you’ll have to help Rigby “hang on for dear life” as he rides on the back of Muscle Man during his crazy rampage through the park. You get the chance to gain awesome powerups, and did we mention there’s unicorns in drag racers? Well, there is. The game boasts easy controls with a simple 2-button interface. There’s also tons of fun to be had in either challenge mode which holds 20 levels of difficult maddening fun, or endless mode which will have playing a game themed after Regular Show forever. And ever. Annnnnd.. ever. Not a fan of unicorns? Their horns scare you you say? Not to worry, ease your mind with the baby ducks power up. That should calm things down a bit. Sadly there’s no Google Play Games support here, but for $0.99 the game is worth it for what it includes, especially if you watch Regular Show.

T-Mobile Now Allows For Up To 6 Lines On A Family Plan

LG-G-Flex-T-Mobile-AH-Review (20)

T-Mobiles services are very easy to choose from as they are very self explanatory and straightforward. These straight forward plans are known as Simple Choice plans and T-Mobile has both single and family Simple Choice plan options. The family Simple Choice plan has been rumored to be getting some upgrades, and today some of those upgrades have been confirmed. Users who are looking for a family Simple Choice plan can now add up to 6 lines per account.

In July, a leaked memo pointed to some changes to the family Simple Choice plan at T-Mobile. In the leaked memo, there was talk about adding up to 10 voice lines and 5 mobile internet lines per account. The breakdown was as simple as any of the T-Mobile plans. T-Mobile offers a basic Simple Choice plan that costs $50 per month for the first line. When a consumer adds a second line, it costs $30. Then adding more lines, specifically lines 3-6 will cost $10 each. Then, if the consumer adds more lines those(7-10) would cost $20 each. That would make a family Simple Choice plan with 10 lines cost $200 per month-at least this is how things were thought to work. A few weeks after the leaked memo, there was more confirmation that these changes would be taking effect soon-with an August 17th start date. In addition to the above information, it was found out that T-Mobile would also be keeping the 2.5GB promotion running until 2016. The promotion allows for an included 2.5GB of data per line on the basic Simple Choice plan. When 2016 comes around, the promotion will end and each line will come with only 1GB of data. Still, the leaked memos have proven to be partially correct-thus far.

After almost exactly a month from when the first leaked memo surfaced, there have been some changes on T-Mobile’s website. Consumers can now add up to 6 lines on their family plan, which is only partially what we saw in the memos past. Though it’s a bit strange that the addition of 6 lines, on August 17th were bits of information that were correct in the memos. Which begs the question, what about the rest of the information? It’s entirely possible that T-Mobile has changed their minds as to whether they would offer a total of 10 lines on a family account. Another possibility is that the additional lines could be qualifying lines only. Meaning a certain credit rating is needed or history with T-Mobile. There could be many reasons why only parts of the memo have turned out to be correct.

LG’s Second Generation G Watch Rumored To Already Be In Development

AH Google IO 2014 LG G Watch (6 of 10)

The LG G Watch has been out for over a month now for the general public and already the Korean manufacturer is rumored to be working on their second generation Android Wear smartwatch, which is being rumored to get an unveiling and announcement at the upcoming IFA conference in September, just weeks away. The Moto 360 has enjoyed some pretty good leaks the last week or so, from the possible near shipment to Google I/O attendees to the outed price of $250 from Best Buy just this morning. Lg though, could possibly steal some of Motorola’s limelight even if Motorola has the 360 out before the IFA conference.

The possible September announcement raises the excitement a little bit and is followed up by other details like LG’s plans to use the G Watch 2(tentative name of course)to compete directly with Apple’s iWatch. These rumors come straight from the Korea Times who is reportedly quoting an Official who works for LG. LG apparently has high hopes for the second generation smartwatch, and although their first contender in the space didn’t receive as much praise as they were probably hoping, they aren’t letting that bring them down. The G Watch 2 is said to still have Android Wear as the planned OS, and continue using Qualcomm as their chip manufacturer, claiming that the G Watch 2 will sport a Qualcomm CPU inside just like the first model.

No other specific details have been mentioned about the G Watch 2 just yet, and we suppose it might be early to start finding that information anyway. According to the source however, LG did mention that the G Watch 2 will be a “game changer.” If that’s the case, then perhaps they have some high quality materials in mind for the device, like possibly metal and leather bands and perhaps maybe even a metal watchface casing. There are also claims that LG may be working to collaborate with well known watch brands to bring the G Watch 2 to fruition, which might help them stand out a bit in a market that is sure to have more than a few contenders by the beginning of 2015.

Last App Switcher – Indie app of the day

last app switcher review

What is Last App Switcher?

In the app description, Last App Description equates itself to the “last channel” button on your TV remote and we think that description is apt. What this app does is keep a floating notification open and when you click on it, it will take you back to the last app you had open.

This is really handy if you’re doing something, need to take care of a notification, email, or message and then get back to what you were doing quickly. Yes, it’s just as easy to hit your recent apps button but this actually takes a step out of that process for those who want it to go just a little bit more quickly.

Aside from its main function, the developers have also added alternate methods to use this app in case you’re not a fan of the floating button. Aside from that, Last App Switcher does what it says it does and gauging from the user reviews, it does it fairly well.

last app switcher review

A little time saved now is a lot of time saved later.

PROS

  • It seems like it only saves a little time but over time it'll add up.

  • Free to use with no in app purchases.

  • Alternate setups available if you don't like the floating notification.

  • Very easy to set up and use.

  • Very responsive developers

CONS

  • Doesn't work on some custom ROMs,

  • While it is insanely useful, there will be those who find the recent apps button more useful or just as useful.

8.5

Overall, it’s a free app that can save you a little bit of time and most users were impressed with how often they actually used it. It’s free with no in app purchases so why not?

[Weekend Poll] At $250, Will You Buy A Moto 360?

nexusae0_8307143_sa1

Earlier this morning, US big box electronics retailer Best Buy let the product page for the Moto 360 loose a little early, and with that slipup came some seemingly concrete information. The Moto 360 will cost $250 - a price which likely comes in at or a below most estimates we've seen for the device to date.

nexusae0_2014-08-17_10h21_31

There's still no solid ship date, but this number has probably sealed the deal for a lot of you in regard to deciding whether or not to purchase a 360.
