Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini Is Now The World’s Thinnest Smartphone

IVVI K1 Mini 1

Coolpad, a Chinese smartphone maker, has revealed its latest smartphone. The Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini reportedly the thinnest smartphone in the world. The phone comes in at a thin 4.7mm, slightly under the OPPO R5 and the Vivo X5Max. This device is set to compete in the low to mid-range markets in China.

The Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini has the standard hardware under is 4.7-inch screen that you would expect from a mid to low-end device. It is powered by a Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor at 64-bit with 1GB of RAM. Storage comes in at 8GB but can be expanded up to 32GB. The front camera comes in at 5-megapixels while the rear comes in at 8-megapixels. According to Coolpad, the phone will have advanced camera software that has a “super pixel” feature that will enable 32-megapixel output images. It also contains around 100 levels of adjustment that is geared towards those persons who like to take beauty shots.

The Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini also comes with a small 1800mAh battery. While that might seem a bit on the small size, it is important to remember that at just 4.7mm thin, there isn’t a whole lot of real estate inside the phone for a large battery. The phone is also reported to be 4G LTE capable. The phone also has an IR blaster to use a remote that will be capable of controlling various televisions, appliances, and other things such as air conditioners. This is done via the intelligent remote control that is baked into the phone.

As far as the outside goes, the Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini will have that is called a “Baby Skin” texture on the back cover. This “Baby Skin” will keep the fingerprints at bay. The company has also said that there will be a plethora of color options for the phone in the near future that will satiate most people’s taste. Currently, the only color option is white when the phone goes on sale.

At around 1299 Yuan or about $200.00, the Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini is on the higher end of the spectrum in terms of price with most mid-range phones, though that price will most likely come down after initial sales cool off. For now the Coolpad IVVI K1 Mini will hold the crown of the thinnest phone in the world. That title will probably not last long as several manufacturers have thin profile phones in the works. But for now, Coolpad can enjoy the title, and the marketing boost that the title, “Worlds thinnest phone,” has to offer.

Nokia Held Four Successful N1 Flash Sales In China, Here Are Some Numbers For You

AH Nokia N1 1

Nokia has been all over the news ever since their N1 tablet has become available in China. This is an Android-powered tablet manufactured by Foxconn, because Nokia isn’t allowed to manufacture smart devices until 2016, as part of their deal with Microsoft, I believe you all recall that Nokia sold their Devices and Services business to Microsoft a while back. This Finnish company is trying to get back on its feet and has finally started manufacturing non-forked Android-powered devices which seem to appeal to consumers.

This tablet is currently available only in China, though it’s expected to land in Europe this month. We’ve already reported that the company has successfully sold out four batches of the N1 tablets in China, and now we have some specific numbers to share with you, in case you’re interested, of course. The first flash sale offered 20,000 Nokia N1 units and the company managed to sell all of those in four minutes with 566,438 interested / registered buyers. The second flash sale managed to attract 666,594 people and offered over 32,000 units which were sold out in 7 minutes and 47 seconds. We still don’t have the exact numbers when it comes to the third and fourth flash sale, but we’ll share those as soon as we get our hands on it. The next flash sale of this tablet in China will be held on February 26.

The Nokia N1 features a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 IPS LCD display and is made out of anodized aluminum. This thing ships with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable internal storage. Intel’s Z3580 64-bit quad-core chip is powering on this thing and the tablet ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop, almost stock version with Nokia’s Z Launcher running things. 8-megapixel camera is located on the back of this thing, and a 5-megapixel snapper is available up front. This tablet measures 200.7 x 138.6 x 6.9mm and weighs 318 grams. This is a Wi-Fi only tablet by the way, no SIM slot available.

Nokia seems to be doing just fine lately, their financial results in the fourth quarter of 2014 were good as well, they show improvement, thanks to the N1 sales of course. I’m sure that people on other markets are eagerly awaiting for this tablet to hit their market, and I hope that will happen soon.

Used Note 4 on Sale From Verizon for under $500

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4 (2)

Samsung’s current favorite child is the Galaxy Note 4. With a 2K 5.7″ screen, 3 GB RAM, and a Snapdragon 805 2.7 GHz processor, the phablet is a premium device with a premium price. To buy it new off-contract, you’ll have to drop anywhere from $700-900. That’s just not possible for most of us reasonable folk, so we either sign ourselves over to a wireless company or buy used. Buying used can be a hazard, as eBay has been known to be a treacherous place to go for someone looking to get a quality device, and Craig’s List can be treacherous for anyone involved. One way to insure you’re getting a great used device is to buy Pre-Owned from a carrier.

Good news comes from Verizon’s website: the Note 4 is available used for only $490, off-contract, Certified Pre-Owned. If you’re wondering, Certified Pre-Owned means it has been inspected and verified to be working by Verizon, so you won’t get a smashed up pile of spare parts. The deal is a great one, so don’t expect it to last long: I’d advise hurrying over to Verizon’s website and purchasing yourself a Note 4 ASAP if you’re in the market for one. This is not a deal that you will have the opportunity to take advantage of everyday.

Google Now issuing mortgage and financial advice with latest update

google now mortgage finance Google Now has been working on bringing new features and services into the app, and the latest update brings in a unique feature that will be useful for anyone looking into buying a house in the future.

You can ask Google Now how much you can borrow, based on percents and monthly payments, to pull up a mortgage calculator. You can fine tune values in this calculator to figure out what monthly payments will be depending on how much a house would cost, which saves you from having to download an extra app from the Play Store or to sit down and spend an hour figuring it out on your own. Definitely a useful trick.

MIT spinoff aims to be the next solution for battery life issues

Google’s new mortgage calculator can quickly tell you how much that new house will cost you

Google Mortgage Calculator

Planning on buying a house sometime soon? It’s a pretty big step and even if you’re just toying with the idea, Google is here to help. Starting today, you can now ask Google anything from “How much can I borrow at $X a month?” or “At X% APR, how much can I borrow over X years?” and Google will give you the answer.

Once you have a result, you can further play around with some of the numbers like mortgage amount, interest rate, mortgage period, and more. If audibly talking to your phone is too cumbersome, you can simply type “mortgage calculator” into Google Search and fill out each field manually (this can also be done on the desktop site). As with most things Google, it looks like the mortgage calculator in US-only (at least for now).

Nexus 6 now showing as ‘coming soon’ on Verizon’s site, but you gotta search for it

Nexus_6_Back

When Google first announced availability of the Nexus 6, they mentioned the device would be available on all 4 major US carriers (5 if you include US Cellular). That was all the way back in October (4 months ago), but you’d be hard pressed to find a single clue, signup page, or the like on Verizon’s website. Well, until now.

Nexus 6 coming soon banner search

Perform a search on Verizon Wireless and you’ll see this banner ad

Seems performing a quick and easy search on Verizon Wireless for “Nexus 6″ will display a small banner ad (as shown above), with the phone now listed as “coming soon.” Okay, so it’s not much. In fact, very little as the signup page is seemingly just a generic one allowing you receive updates on all the going-ons at Verizon.

For those that have an upgrade waiting on Verizon (or plan on paying it off slowly via Edge payments), you just have to hang in there a little longer. The phone is, in fact, coming… eventually.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 5 Could Come With A 9.7-Inch Display And A 4:3 Aspect Ratio

Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S-Review-AH-18

With already a month gone in the new year we’re bound to be seeing plenty of new devices hitting the market in the next few months, as well as seeing rumors, plans, and leaks of new devices that may be out before the end of the year. Samsung is one of the OEMs we’ll surely be seeing plenty of new device drops from, including their new lineup of tablets in the Galaxy Tab range. The latest in the series will be Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab 5, which could end up coming with an aspect ratios of 4:3. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing just a little odd since Samsung usually opts for tablet displays with a 16:3 aspect ratio instead.

According to the import/export site Zauba.com, a Galaxy Tab 5 was received for testing and evaluation purposes that is listed with a 9.7-inch size screen, which could be coming with an aspect ratio of 4:3 similar to what is seen on the iPad which sports those same values for the screen size and aspect ratio as well. The tablet is listed as model number SM-T555. As this is just for testing and is listed as a “to be destroyed” unit, it’s possible that this model may not be a finalized version of the tablet and Samsung could still end up making some changes to the unit before its release.

Unfortunately for now there aren’t any other details about the Galaxy Tab 5 that comes along with this listing, so we have no idea as to what the pricing and release dates will be for this device just yet. There also aren’t any specs rumors as of yet but we could end up hearing about upcoming tablets from Samsung at their Unpacked event due to happen on March 1st during Mobile World Congress 2015. That is only just under a month away so if we do end up learning more from Samsung at MWC, it won’t be long before we know more details. There was also a 7-inch tablet spotted on Zauba’s website back at the end of January with a 7-inch screen, possibly believed to be a smaller variant of the Galaxy Tab 5.

Google’s Android TV Developer Kit (ADT-1) Updated To Android 5.0.2

AH Google IO-1413 Android TV 2.4

Although, we generally consider Google’s Nexus Player to be the first real Android TV device, in reality it was not. Prior to the release of the Nexus Player, Google had released the ADT-1. For those unfamiliar with this device, there is good reason to be unfamiliar with it. The ADT-1 is the Android TV Developer’s kit and was mainly dished out by Google as a testing platform for Android TV. This effectively allows developers to test apps and features will run on Android TV. The unit was never really made available and as such it is a device you won’t be seeing at your local Best Buy anytime soon. Instead, it was offered out back at Google’s I/O event last year. So this is why we tend to think of the Nexus Player as the first real Android TV device, as it was (at least) the first one you could go out and buy.

Anyway, for those out there that do have an ADT-1, then the latest news seems to be that the unit has now been updated to Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop), with the now familiar build number LXR22G. In terms of the actual details, well, there does not seem that much happening. This is, after all, only an incremental update and not one that comes with anything too notable. More than likely, this will largely consist of bug fixes and the likes. That said, it is in the process of rolling out. If you have yet to receive your update then don’t worry, as always, this is a staggered type deal and will land on your device when it does. If you simply cannot wait then hit up the source link below, which will take you over to a Google+ community with all the necessary files and instructions to download and sideload the update yourself (rooted or otherwise).

So what does this mean for Nexus Player owners? Well, in the short term, it does not mean anything at all. Just because the update has landed on the ADT-1, does not mean it is landing on the Nexus player. That said, in the long term, it does very much indicate that the update should be heading towards the Nexus Player soon(ish).

[Wut] HTC Can't Even, Debuts A Rap Video Featuring People Literally Dressed Up As Phones, Peter Chou Shoutout

wut

HTC America's marketing department have apparently all been given pink slips, because I can't think of any other good reason for the following, uh, multimedia experience to exist. Namely, a rap video... about HTC. Featuring someone called Doc G. And this guy.

lol

I don't know why HTC did it. I don't know what they hoped to gain. I don't know who Doc G. is or exactly what kind of doctor he is.
