Xiaomi Lets A Live Crab Play Around With The Mi4 In This Video Ad

AH -7 Xiaomi Mi4 Chris 5 Logo

Xiaomi has been making waves in China for quite some time now, and the company will release their expansion plans soon. They’re expected to expand further into India, Brazil, and perhaps even Russia at some point. Europe and the U.S. are still not in Xiaomi’s plans, the company is still not interested in opening up shop in top tier markets due to many reasons. This China-based company has recently managed to collect over $1 billion dollars through investments which they’ll invest in expanding their business and develop the company even more.

This China-based smartphone manufacturer is well-known for their odd commercials. I don’t know if you recall this, but we share a rather interesting video with you quite recently, which shows one of Xiaomi’s ads. What’s weird about it? Well, Lin Bin, Xiaomi’s CEO, is starring in this commerical and is basically making fun of iPhone 6’s protruding camera on the back. Lin Bin and two of his “helpers” have come up with a way to flatten that camera in the ad, the commercial is funny, but also inappropriate in a way I guess. Either way, if you’re interested, take a look at that.

Xiaomi is at it again, they’ve released yet another very odd commercial on their official Facebook page. This advertisment is about 2 months old, but it’s making its way around the internet now. You can check out this ad by clicking the source link down below or simply firing up the embedded video below this article. What’s it about? Well, it would be best if you just watch it for yourself, but this ad is really odd as well. Xiaomi employees pay a visit to the fish market and let a crab play around with the Xiaomi Mi4 in order to showcase how well built the device really is. That very same crab also cuts a cucumber and breaks glass in the ad. It’s rather entertaining and I recommend you check it out.

This Chinese company is expected to announce their international expansion plans this month, so stay tuned for that. As for the commercials, I’m sure we’ll see more of those soon, in the meantime, let us know what you think about the one we shared today.

Xiaomi Pushing Out MIUI 6.3.5 Update To The Redmi Note 4G

AH RedMi Note 4G-1

Xiaomi is updating the Redmi Note 4G, but it’s not getting Lollipop yet. The newest version of MIUI, version 6.3.5, is rolling out to the device in India and Taiwan. The update is huge, coming in at a whopping 577MB. It’s still Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but it does bring with it all of the updated MIUI features that are packed into the new version. Device performance is improved, and there are a couple of bug fixes for music playback and camera lag. The full firmware version for the update is MIUI 6.3.5.0 (KHIMIBL). The Android version number is 4.4.4 KTU84P KitKat. The update should be hitting users in other countries soon too, but for right now we only have confirmation that it is hitting devices in Taiwan and India. The Android 5.0 Lollipop should be hitting the device in the coming weeks once Xiaomi has the update completed.

The Redmi Note 4G was released last August. It’s a 5.5-inch device with a 720 x 1280 resolution display. That gives is a 267 ppi pixel density. Even on a screen that size, it’s not a bad looking screen. It’s running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The processor is clocked at 1.6GHz and the GPU is an Adreno 305. There’s a 13-megapixel camera on the back of the device and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. It launched with Android 4.4.2, but it was updated to 4.4.4 KitKat relatively quickly. It’s got a built-in compass and FM radio, and Xiaomi is selling these phones like crazy, just the way they sell most of their devices.

We won’t ever see the Redmi Note 4G in the U.S. We probably won’t ever see any of the current line-up of Xiaomi devices. The company wants to break into the U.S. market, but they’re going to have to put together some new hardware and software that doesn’t blatantly copy Apple before they can make that move. Hit the source link below to check out some screenshots of the new Redmi Note 4G MIUI update.

Huawei releases MWC 2015 teaser that includes ‘Next is here’ tagline

huawei_next_is_here_mwc_2015_teaser_tweet

On Monday, Huawei posted an image teasing what it has planned for MWC 2015. The company did not include anything but the silhouette of an unidentified device with the tagline ‘Next is here’ attached. The styling of the teaser closely resembles what Samsung has done with its MWC 2015 teaser. And, yes, the taglines are similar as well. Samsung is using ‘What’s Next’ and Huawei’s answer is that the ‘Next is here’.

There is some belief that the device teased by Huawei is a smartwatch that features its own 4G LTE connection. Nothing is confirmed at this time and there have been almost nothing to support the smartwatch theory, so we will have to wait and see in a few weeks what Huawei has going on.

VLC bringing Chromecast support with next update

VLC player android If you’ve ever dabbled in playing movies and TV shows on your computer, you’ve probably used VLC, or at least heard the name a few times. The program (and Android app!) supports nearly any file format or codec you throw at it, and it’s arguably the most cohesive media player available, even if it lacks some of the extra features other players have.

One thing that VLC has not had, though, was Chromecast support. When Google’s cheap streaming device was announced, VLC said they were planning on supporting it, but as of right now that hasn’t actually panned out. But according to some changes in VLC’s source code, version 3.0 looks like it’ll be bringing full Chromecast support so you can happily sling any media around to your televisions.

The biggest thing to look for here is which app or program the casting functionality ends up on first. It would make sense for it to show up in the Android application, but they might opt for desktop casting first. And based on what we’ve seen from other apps, there’s always that chance iOS gets a taste before anyone else. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out.

[New Android Wear App] Get news delivered to Android Wear with PaperWear

paperwear_app_icon

Watch any television show from days gone by and chances are good you will see someone break out a newspaper to get caught up on current events. The advent of online news sources delivered via computers and then mobile devices like tablets, smartphones and e-readers have changed the way “news” is created and how it is delivered. The explosion of interest in smartwatches is leading some to look to these new devices as yet another vector to deliver news as seen with the new PaperWear app released to Google Play.

PaperWear pulls top articles from sites like Medium.com, Vox.com, qz.com and others and delivers them to a users smartwatch running Android Wear. The app will automatically refresh the article list every 12 hours although users can pull a refresh manually. If reading an article on a smartwatch is a bit too much trouble, users can save articles to a service like Pocket or read the article on their smartphone.

Pebble updated to support Android Wear apps

Sony releases official SmartEyeglass app, demo video for SmartEyeglass Attach

sony_smarteyeglass_app_icon

The signs that Sony is getting close to releasing their head-mounted wearable devices are starting to add up. Last week we saw an FCC filing surface for the SED-E1 accompanied by the release of official social media apps for Facebook and Twitter intended to operate on SmartEyeglass devices. Now Sony has released their own dedicated app for SmartEyeglass to the Google Play store.

The SmartEyeglass app is intended for the same model, SED-E1, that just passed through the FCC. According to Sony’s description, the app will be used to control different settings of SmartEyeglass and manage the apps the device can access.

Sony has also released a video that demonstrates their SmartEyeglass Attach device, which is supposed to be the version of SmartEyeglass that can be attached to any pair of eyeglass or sunglasses. This contrasts with Google Glass which has a dedicated frame that the unit rides on. The demo video also shows some use cases indicating how Sony sees the device being able to augment reality for the user.

You can check out the video below and the Google Play listing for SmartEyeglass using the links below.

Japan’s flip phone market grows for the first time in seven years at the expense of smartphones

samsung_w2014_flip_phone Japan’s wireless industry is unique in that their carriers typically charge more for smartphones than any other country, but they also charge the least for basic phones, like flip phones. This has caused a pretty strange event in Japan where flip phones have actually grown in shipments for the first time in seven years. Inversely, that has caused smartphone shipments to decline as more and more people revert back to internet-enabled flip phones to save money.

Flip phones grew 5.7% in 2014, while smartphones shrunk about 5.3%. Smartphones shipments still hit about 27 million phones while flip phones only made up 10 million units, so if we’re looking at a pure volume standpoint, smartphones don’t have anything to worry about it. However, for manufacturers, it’s a tough market to penetrate if you’re trying to sell the latest and greatest touchscreen device. Companies like Panasonic have already left the smartphone market in Japan despite being a native Japanese company.

This news, coupled with the fact that smartphone penetration in Japan is sitting at around 98%, means there’s very, very little room for growth in Japan’s smartphone market, especially considering how long newer smartphones are capable of lasting. We’re past the point of absolutely needing to replace a phone after two years, so customers upgrade devices less often. That’s great news for consumers, but it’s a tough battle for manufacturers.
