Sprint’s Galaxy S6 And Galaxy S6 Edge Promotion Material Leaks Ahead Of MWC

AH Samsung Logo Galaxy 12.2 Tablet 2.0

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge launch day is closer by the day, it’s only two days away now, and we’re still getting a ton of leaks regarding both of those handsets. We’ve seen all kinds of leaks by now, including benchmarks, design details, alleged device leaks and what not. Another huge leak popped up online, revealing Sprint’s promotional contest and the (partial) images of both Galaxy S6 handsets, let’s see what’s what here, shall we.

According to the available information, those who pre-register for the purchase for both devices enter the contest, and can win one of six Galaxy S6 units which Sprint will give away each week for a limited period of time. Keep in mind that we’re not talking about pre-orders here, but pre-registrations. What’s the difference? Well, in order to pre-register, you don’t have to pay anything basically, all you have to do is provide Sprint with certain information in order for Sprint to keep you in the loop regarding the launch details of the Galaxy S6.

Samsung will unveil both of these devices at their Unpacked event in Barcelona on March 1st. The event starts at 5:30pm (local time) / 11:30am EST, about an hour and a half after HTC’s One (M9) event. The Galaxy S6 devices are both expected to come with Samsung’s Exynos 14nm 7420 64-bit octa-core processor, 3 or 4GB of RAM and 16 or 20-megapixel camera sensors. QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display will also be a part of the package, and it will be bigger than 5-inches. These handsets will also ship with Android Lollipop pre-installed, the only question is which version we’ll see pre-installed, Android Lollipop 5.0.1 or 5.0.2. Both of these devices will be available in multiple storage variants and colors, of course. It is also worth mentioning that the Galaxy S6 Edge will ship with curved display on both sides, at least that’s what the leaks / rumors have been saying thus far.

That being said, let us know what you think in the comments down below, we’d love to hear from you. Are you excited about the launch of either of these devices?

Sprint Galaxy S6 And Galaxy S6 Edge Promotion Leaked Ahead Of MWC Announcement

galaxy s6 Samsung is going to announce the Galaxy S6, and a curved-screen variant called the Galaxy S6 Edge, at its Mobile World Congress announcement early next month. The phones look like this. Aside from a few specs and information on prices and dates, that's about all you need to know. But the leaked images were pretty tiny, so Sprint has been kind enough to leak some more for us. It doesn't include the bottom portion of the phone, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess there's a home button down there.

New Image, Specs, And Promotional Video Leak For The Upcoming HTC One M9

m91

Leading up to the days before Mobile World Congress, which is quite possibly one of the biggest if not the biggest mobile focused convention of the year, there have been numerous leaks of some of the most anticipated flagship devices of the year from top industry manufacturers. These leaks have included images of the devices, specs, benchmark stats, and teasers allegedly confirming the existence of said devices weeks ahead of the actual unveiling. The announcement for what HTC has planned next for us doesn’t come up until Sunday, March 1st, and people have already seen at least a couple of leaks showing off what is believed to be the design of the new phone, the HTC One M9, or Hima.

Now a new leak has popped up which seems to only further solidify the fact that HTC has only slightly altered the design of last year’s model HTC One (M8), but it doesn’t just show off the phone from the back and front, it also has a list of alleged specs below it as well as a few videos which we have for you here. Keep in mind this is just a leak and as such shouldn’t be treated as fact, but that doesn’t mean that the actual device HTC announces come Sunday won’t end up with some of what is claimed here for the hardware.

According to the leak, the HTC One M9 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, something that was already being speculated on, as well as the rumored 20.7MP rear facing camera. Other specs supposedly include a 4MP Ultrapixel front facing camera instead of the 5MP that was seen in the One M9’s predecessor, a 5-inch Full HD display, 3GB of DDR4 RAM, and internal storage of 32GB or 64GB which would mean HTC saw the benefit of doubling up on their storage options this time around. The leak also suggests that the HTC One M9 is coming equipped with a microSD card slot for expandable storage which isn’t too hard to believe since HTC employed this on their last two flagships. Rounding out the specs list are of course the BoomSound stereo speakers, Bluetooth 4.1, Android 5.0.2 with Sense 7 UI on top,(TBD on Android version)2,840mAh battery and support for VoLTE, carrier aggregation, and LTE Cat 6 for up to 300Mbps download speeds.

The details also state which regions are going to be getting the device(presumably at launch?)and what carriers consumers can expect to see the device sold, which according to the leak includes a Hima#UHL model for Asia, Europe, Africa, UAE, Russia, Turkey, and mainland China. T-Mobile and AT&T as well as a developer model(likely unlocked if true), and Rogers and TELUS in Canada, and Latin America are listed for the Hima#UL model. Sprint, and it’s respective MVNO’s as well as China Telecom are listed as receiving the Hima#WHL model, and then Verizon Wireless and their MVNO’s are listed as carrying the Hima#WL model. The HTC One M9 is also listed as coming in three different colors, which includes a dark gunmetal on the front and back, a model with a gold front and silver back, and a model that is gold on the front and back. Like last year though, HTC could very well launch more colors for specific markets and/or carriers. There’s also a short list of included accessories which are presumably what HTC may have ready at launch including a second version of the DotView case that will come in more colors than the previous HTC One M8 model DotView, a clear case, a stand case, a waterproof case, a waterproof headset, a screen protector, the HTC BoomBass with WiFi support and what’s listed as the Headset 2015 – Max. Finally there are a number of YouTube videos that are listed with the leak which are allegedly HTC’s promotional videos to be shown sometime after the announcement, focusing on the introduction to the new HTC One M9, the HTC One M9 camera, and themes for the all new device, which we have provided below.

CrucialTek’s Touchscreen Fingerprint Scanner Coming Soon

oldandnewbiometricsensors

The Korean media have interview Charles Ahn, the Chief Executive of fingerprint module maker, CrucialTec. Charles is confident that CrucialTec will grow exponentially this year. His business, which has suffered from three consecutive annual losses but now has more than ten projects around the world with smartphone manufacturers to supply biometric trackpads. He said this on the matter: “CrucialTec will not be just a manufacturer but a company that provides total biometric solutions from software and hardware to module packaging technologies.” CrucialTec are a supplier for both BlackBerry and HTC, two manufacturers that have suffered in the last few years. The use of optical trackpads has fallen out of favor with customers, even when biometics are included; many people simply prefer using just a touchscreen. And CrucialTec have a patented technology that will allow customers to scan their fingerprints on the bottom of the touchscreen rather than using a fingerprint scanner.

The technology uses an under-glass fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the screen, showing at the top of the article. It’s not currently clear how, exactly, the sensor works and we will have wi wait until a device is launched with the new technology. Furthermore, they’ve converted their optical tracking pad production lines to be able to produce the biometric tracking pad – these lines used to produce ten million units a month. CrucialTek believe that now Apple Pay is starting to gain traction, this will generate interest in biometric security systems and they have the best system available. CrucialTec are working in conjunction with payment solution developer, Danal and is also a member of the FIDO Alliance, an industry consortium for standardization in authentication technology. Other FIDO Alliance members include Google, Alibaba, PayPal and Microsoft. CrucialTek have invested a lot into the technology!

CrucialTek believe the technology will be ready for inclusion by the end of the first half of the year and we’ve already seen rumors that the Meizu MX5 will include a fingerprint scanner not integrated as part of a home button. Apple recently patented a similar technology, which might mean that a future generation of iPhone dispenses with the home button at the bottom of the screen (and potentially results in smaller bezels top and bottom).

Samsung Freeze Korean Wages For 2015 Following Disappointing 2014

AH Samsung Logo-1

It has been widely reported that Samsung are going through a difficult patch and the main reason for this is because the largest part of the business, Samsung Mobile, has struggled in what has become a very competitive market. The Galaxy S4 did not sell as well as hoped and the Galaxy S5 followed suit; Samsung’s devices have struggled against stiff competition from the iPhone now that Apple has discovered larger screen technologies. It has also suffered at the hands of a new generation of Chinese handset manufacturer, such as Xiaomi, who are selling good quality handsets at much cheaper prices into developing smartphone markets. The Chief Executive of Samsung Mobile has retained his job but the latest announcement is that, in Korea at least, Samsung is freezing 2015 salaries for each of its near-100,000 employees. It had earlier reported that executive salaries were to be frozen for 2015 but the last time the business froze wages across the board was back in 2009 following the global financial crisis.

Chang Sea-Jin, a business professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, said this on the matter: “The measures are likely to inject a sense of crisis into employees, who have enjoyed steady wage increases and hefty bonuses in recent years.” A Samsung spokesperson did not elaborate on the underlying reasons for the salary freeze but in recently released figures, Samsung’s Q4 business showed a 60% decline in profits for 2014 compared with 2013. There are other reasons in addition to the relatively poor Galaxy S5 sales, but it is clear that the company are taking significant steps to improve profitability going forwards.

Against this news, Samsung appear to have carefully courted the media regarding the new unannounced Galaxy S6 flagship, which is to be revealed this weekend. We’ve seen numerous official and unofficial teaser announcements and leaks, including a new processor built around the 14nm die size, so it should offer reduced power consumption compared with the competition. The new Exynos processor has already proven it offers comparable performance to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. The S6 is also likely to have a bias towards the design and construction of the handset compared with previous models, with Samsung believed to be introducing two flagship handsets constructed out of metal and glass but one offering one (or two) curved glass edges. We’ve also seen the business discuss other plans to boost profits, including reducing the number of models in each line up. All the same, it’s important to remember that behind every new Samsung product, there’s a team of people working hard to bring this to the market.

Rumour: The 2015 Nexus phone could be made by a Chinese manufacturer

Nexus – Google1

It’s a little early for Nexus season, but here we have a leak hinting at the next manufacturer to be handed the honour of creating the next Nexus handset. In the recent past, we had the Nexus 4 and 5 being built by LG, with the most recent Nexus 6 coming courtesy of Motorola. But now, according to a post by Darren phone chips on Weibo, the Chinese micro-blogging site, it appears that a Chinese manufacturer might be given the responsibility for the next Nexus handset.

Next Nexus

It’s anybody’s guess as to who the mystery Chinese manufacturer could be. With Lenovo, Xiaomi, ZTE, Huawei and Oppo just some of the Chinese handset makers that have risen to prominence in recent times, it’s difficult to pick one. One could point a finger at Lenovo because of its Motorola connection, although if pushed I might favour Xiaomi, simply because of Hugo Barra moving there from Google. One benefit of the next Nexus phone being built by a Chinese firm is that the handset could be sold at a cheaper price than the current Nexus 6 while still using flagship level technology. As with any unconfirmed rumour though, a pinch of salt is necessary, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye. Who know? Maybe we’ll find out more at the Mobile World Congress in just a few days time.

NVIDIA SHIELD Gets Hotfix Update To Fix Color Reproduction Issues

shield

The SHIELD tablet's 2.2 update that came out a week ago came with an annoying bug for many users: bright colors suddenly looked very dull. Well, today a fix is going out that should fix that. That is a pretty quick turnaround time, considering NVIDIA probably didn't know about the problem until the original update went out.

Yep, there's also a fix for the Netflix experience! It's not too often that you see a specific third-party app called out like that in an update changelog, but with so little else to say, why not?
