Oppo Detects Copycat Find 7 And N3 Devices, Takes Issue Very Seriously

Oppo N3 unboxing_16

Working in a mobile ‘phone store, I’ve seen quite a few copycat handsets. Devices that at a glance can look similar to a well-known device. Sometimes, the customer has clearly been duped and believes that the device in their hand is truly a Samsung Galaxy Note II and hasn’t noticed that Samsung has been spelled “Smasung.” Against this, some of the copycat handsets are very good indeed. I’ve also seen plenty of iPhone copycat devices; most running a version of Android at or a little older than the current version and most preferential to the real deal! However, Oppo are having their own copycat difficulties and have reported that they’ve detected a number of fake versions of the Find 7 and new N3 device. The source reports that Oppo have 644 cases of counterfeit devices in just Malaysia and the business believes that the issue will be prevalent across the rest of the region.

The Oppo Find 7 and N3 handsets are not readily available here in the United Kingdom, it’s easy to see why the Oppo handsets will be copied. The N3, especially, is a great piece of kit. 3.4 GHz, quad core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, motorized 16 MP camera, steel frame, 1080p 5.5-inch display and a 3,000 mAh. The only thing missing is a built-in coffee maker. The Find 7 is one of the first smartphones to ship with a QHD display (that is 1440p, or 2,560 by 1,440 pixel resolution) and it too carries a great camera. The Find 7 is joined by the less high-end 7a, which used a 1080p 5.5-inch screen and slightly reduced internal specification.

In at least some cases, the problem was only discovered when customers returned their device to Oppo for service or repair. OPPO are taking the matter very seriously; Regional Manager, Garry Gong, issued this statement: “This is one of the serious cases since OPPO came to Malaysia and we are truly concerned about the situation. OPPO have lived as part of the nation’s family member, this issue not only rips off the consumer and provides shoddy products, and we truly cannot accept any cheating cases to our customers. We are devastated over the situation and it is our responsibility to take action upon the situations and shall take legal action once we found any unethical parties and counterfeiters.” His advice is to only buy Oppo smartphones from authorized Oppo dealers. And if you have a fake device, Oppo recommend that you make a formal complaint to the authorities for further action.

Have you seen or worse experienced a copycat device? If you were misled, did you complain to the authorities and if so, what did they do about it? Or did you willingly buy the copycat device knowing that it wasn’t the real deal but was significantly less expensive? Let us know in the comments below.

PlayStation Portable Emulator PPSSPP Version 1.0 Now Available On The Play Store

unnamed There's a huge emulator community on Android, helped in no small part by the fact that modern smartphones can handle older game console software without breaking a sweat. But 3D consoles and newer portable machines are harder to emulate - they require more power and more complex software to get bigger, more demanding games to run well. The PPSSPP emulator (for PlayStation Portable games) has been in development for a variety of platforms for several years, but now the 1.0 release is available for Android via an easy Play Store download.

PPSSPP has just about all of the standard emulator bases covered.

Featured Review: Kenu Stance Compact Tripod for Android

16224864840_eec95ce0a0_k

The Kenu Stance tripod for Android is one of those accessories that you don’t think about until you have it, and then you wonder what you ever did with out. It’s a small metal tripod stand that plugs into the USB port on your phone or tablet and lets you watch movies, make video calls, record videos, and do it all without needing to touch your device. The Stance steadies your phone during video recording and lets you eat your popcorn while watching a movie on your tablet. It’s heavy and sturdy, and I’ll admit that I didn’t think I would have a use for it when it first showed up at my house. Now I use it all the time. Let’s take a closer look at the Kenu Stance tripod.

Design

The Stance tripod is about the size of as a 5-pack of gum. One of the first things I noticed when I opened the box was that it has a bottle opener on one of the three legs. Not only will this thing hold up your phone so you can watch a movie, you can use it to crack a cold beverage too. The tripod weighs 102 ounces and has green plastic tips on the end of each leg. This will help to prevent scratches on your table or desk when your device is standing up in it. The Stance attaches to your phone by plugging into the micro USB port. This tripod is designed for Android and Windows Phone devices, according to Kenu. It will work with just about any device that charges via micro USB, however. It has a ball-and-pivot joint that allows for a decent range of motion. You can rotate your phone on the tripod to get it balanced just right, or to adjust angles if you’re capturing a photo or video. The overall design is simple and the build quality is solid.

Using the Stance

Using the Kenu Stance is as easy as you’re thinking it is. It works on a wide range of phones. I used with several demos I have, but it didn’t work too well with my Xperia Z2. The Z2 has a flap over the charging port, and the charging port is a bit recessed. This made it almost impossible to plug the Stance in and get it positioned correctly. Other than not being able to use it with my Z2, using the Stance was a breeze. Plug it in, stand your phone up or lay it on its side, and press play on a movie. The three legs can be positioned just about any way you like, giving you easy access to shoot steady video or when you’re on a video call.

The Stance needs your charging port to stand up your phone. This is probably the tripod’s biggest flaw. It means you’ll want to fully charge your phone because you won’t be able to charge it part way through a long movie. The Stance is compact and easy to carry, but it could also do with a whole for a key ring or some other way to carry it on a keychain or carabiner.

Wrap-up

The Kenu Stance is a simple, easy-to-use tripod that is compatible with just about any device that has a micro USB charging port. It’s a great way to keep your phone or tablet propped up when watching a movie, or shooting photos or video. You can find the Stance on Kenu’s website or on Amazon for $29.99.

Zeptolabs To Release Non-Puzzle Title Called King Of ThievesKing of thieves

The creators of popular puzzle game series Cut The Rope are set to come out with a new game in the future called King Of Thieves, and unlike any of their Cut The Rope games this won’t be a puzzle based title. Zeptolabs hasn’t given too much detail on the game just yet, but the official King Of Thieves website states the game is a mix of platformer and massive multiplayer, so that immediately makes it sound pretty interesting. The game will contain elements like PvP multiplayer where you can steal gold from other players, design your own dungeon with unique traps which you can upgrade, and you’ll be able to use boosts to breakdown defenses of other player’s dungeons. Zeptolabs says the game is coming soon but hasn’t listed a definitive time frame yet.

Naughty Kitties Brings Feline Warfare To AndroidNaughty Kitties

In a weird little mashup, Naughty Kitties landed on Android this past week bringing gamers a title with the likes of Tower Defense and Endless Runner genres. The game will have you and your squadron of kitties aboard a spaceship that is flying through the air as battle it out against aliens, and your goal is to try and get as far as you can. Things get interesting as you have to swap out your cats from time to time and each cat seems to bring their own unique expertise and skills. You can also upgrade your ships for more abilities, better weapons and defenses. The game actually seems fun in a “cats are cute” sort of way and if you like tower defense and endless runners, the game is free so why not give it a shot.

Rovio Stars Set To Publish Upcoming Game Called Sky PunksSky-Punks-Now-Available-App-Store-Canada-Australia-Indonesia-Philippines

Rovio Stars will be publishing a new game soon called Sky Punks with development studio Fathom Interactive. The game will be somewhat of a racer where you’ll be flying around on these vehicles called GlideWings, in an endless runner style of gameplay where you’ll attempt to whiz off as far as you can go while trying to collect items along the way. Endless runners are usually good fun so this one game to watch. It’s out on a soft launch on iOS at the moment, but look for this to drop on Android sometime in the near future probably.
