T-Mobile Lists Sony Xperia Z1S And Sony Xperia Z3 On Software Update Support Page

T-Mobile has had a list of devices on their network that are either ready for Lollipop software updates to roll out or have already received them up for some time now. The last time we looked at the list it contained the top flagships on T-Mobile’s network from both 2014 and 2013 which were all confirmed to get the software update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, all except at least one device. The Sony Xperia Z3, which is a current flagship device on the network. That appears to be changing as of now, as the Sony Xperia Z3 appears to be listed along with the HTC One M8, Galaxy Note 4 and other devices.

T-Mobile states that the Sony Xperia Z3 is currently going through manufacturer development for the software, which we know to be true as Sony has already confirmed they’re working on it and are close to a release. Surprisingly though, it seems Sony’s older flagship model, the Xperia Z1S, is also listed as a device that’s currently getting ready for the software upgrade to Lollipop. Earlier Sony had apparently mentioned that no phones that weren’t part of the Xperia Z line would be getting updated to Lollipop software, that counts out a lot of phones if true. Thankfully for users, the Xperia Z1S isn’t included there as it is an Xperia Z line device, just an older model we wouldn’t have expected to be getting the update.

Right now there is no dates listed on when to expect these updates to come through for both Sony phones, but we can’t be too far off at this point as Sony had stated initially that the updates would be coming in February. With March already a week in, that time has come and gone and they obviously didn’t hit their goal. However, now that T-Mobile is listing those devices on the support page for software updates, perhaps they’re getting much closer and we might be able to see these updates head out to devices in the next couple of weeks. If you use a Sony Xperia Z1s or Sony Xperia Z3 on T-Mobile’s network, watch those status bars like a hawk for the Lollipop update which seems to be upon us very soon.

There are plenty of feed readers on Android, but how many of them slap some news on your lock screen? Not many, I'd imagine. Corgi is an app that plugs into Feedly to pull in news and display it on the lock screen. Android lock screen replacements are never ideal, but Corgi seems to do a rather good job.

Android Game Of The Week: Blood And Glory: Immortals

Blood and Glory: Immortals is an action game that’s set in the mythical era of ancient times. The game is centered around the player as a supercharged hero who has been imbued with power by the muses to stop the onslaught of Zeus, Ares, and Hades who have unleashed their armies upon the world. The game features a selection of three different heroes to choose from, and gamers can either pick a Barbaress, a Warlock, or a Gladiator, each with their own unique skill sets and abilities. The game features a single-player campaign that feels like a hack and slash action RPG, not too different from that of Eternity Warriors, another action RPG type game from Glu.

Since this is set in ancient roman era, you can explore the roman empire and discover and complete over 150 quests throughout the single player campaign. Using your skills as a hero, you’ll be able to best your foes in combat unlike the other two Blood and Glory games, which were more of a swipe to attack game similar to the Infinity Blade series on iOS. Like in other action RPG games there is tons of loot to acquire, and as you make your way through your journey to stop the angry gods you’ll have chances to pick up all kinds of weapons and gear which can be equipped and upgraded to become stronger. There are even sets of armor that can give your character unique buffs that you won’t get with other single pieces.

The combat is fast-paced and feels more like real-time, which gives things a little more of a challenge. Since the combat isn’t a series of timed swipes, defeating your enemies can be done in any number of ways using your arsenal of unique skills and abilities. The game has a progressive leveling system as well so as you defeat your foes throughout the game you’ll gain experience and be able to level up. Visually, the graphics are also pretty good and should delight anybody that enjoys action hack and slash titles. If you’re interested in giving Blood and Glory: Immortals a shot, you can pick it up from the Play Store.

Tom Android Homescreen March 6th: My Social UI

It’s Friday and that means the weekend is here and it’s time for another home screen setup for you all out there. This week just like every week we sift through tons of custom made home screen designs and pick one to feature as our top pick for the week, and this week’s pick is called My Social UI. We grabbed this design off of mycolorscreen like we do all our picks, and if you like the design and want to set things up for yourself, we’ll go over what you need to set it up as well as give you the basics on how to re-create this look on your own device.

For starters, you’ll need a third-party home launcher. Something like Nova Prime or Apex Pro will work perfectly for this setup. Secondly and actually the final app this time is UCCW, which is a different kind of app for applying widget skins to your home screen. Normally we feature designs that utilize Zooper Pro, but UCCW has plenty of the same elements for widget customization and skinning. You can download the UCCW widget skin from the Play Store here, and if you like the design make sure to visit the creator’s page on mycolorscreen and hit the love button to show some appreciation for their hard work creating this awesome design for everybody.

The Nova instructions are fairly simple, once you have Nova Prime and UCCW installed, make sure you have the UCCW skin installed as well. The first step is to disable the dock, you can find this option in the Nova settings. You’ll also want to make sure your home screen is completely blank and free of any app shortcuts or widgets, and you’ll want to two home screen to work with as this design will make use of two pages. Next, set your home screen grid to 12 x 12, this option can also be found inside of Nova settings. The UCCW skin download will come with a wallpaper to use for the design, but you can use any wallpaper that you wish. After you have that set, long press on the home screen and add a widget, scroll to find UCCW, select any size widget as you’ll just be resizing things to the full-screen fit anyways, and that’s it. There are a few extra settings you’ll want to configure to make full use of this theme, you can find those details on the Play Store page for the UCCW skin. Have a great weekend and happy theming!

Android Wear Weekly: Moto 360 or the new Huawei Watch?

This past week during Mobile World Congress, we were privy to device launches from the usual suspects, but there was a bit of a surprise this year from Huawei. The Chinese manufacturer we’re more used to hearing about shipping affordable handsets in the Far East decided to wow us all with the Huawei Watch during MWC ’15 and boy, what a watch that thing is. Not content with just following the pack and producing a round smartwatch, Huawei showed off a whole range of watches, with different straps, different colors and different styles. If anyone has an Android Wear watch that should appeal to pretty much anyone, it’s Huawei. Of course, the device won’t be available for another couple months, which is disappointing, but it already has its work cut out for it; it needs to beat the Moto 360.

While smartwatches like the G Watch R from LG, and the new Watch Urbane that’s coming later this year, have shown us that Motorola isn’t the only manufacturer with a good-looking smartwatch, the Moto 360 is still the watch to beat. Last month an independent research firm, aptly named the Smartwatch Group, revealed figures showing Samsung and their Gear line of smartwatches are still king, but that the Moto 360 was a distant second, making it the smartwatch to beat when it comes to Android Wear devices. The Moto 360 isn’t perfect by any means, it doesn’t have the best battery life out there and the display isn’t completely round like newer devices. Despite its issues however, it’s still the one Android Wear device that appeals to the majority of those looking for a smartwatch, and the Huawei Watch will need to topple the Moto 360 later this year to be a true big hit.

That’s going to be tough for the Chinese brand, despite the stunning 400 x 400 display and the excellent build and selection of watch straps, the name ‘Huawei’ isn’t as well received as ‘Motorola’ in the West, which is where Huawei is more than likely going to see the majority of these. There’s no denying that Huawei have an excellent piece of hardware on their hands, and it’s the one device likely to make them the “fashionable brand” that they want to become, but when it comes to Android Wear, the Moto 360 is a big obstacle in their way. Zombie Highway 2 steers its way into the Google Play Store

Hearthstone’s Blackrock Mountain expansion announced, game’s user interface for phones also previewed

The folks at Blizzard held their panel at Pax East this morning, and they had a few cool announcements to make. One of the announcements pertained to none other than Hearthstone, the addictive collectible card game based on the World of Warcraft universe that launched on Android tablets late last year.

The latest content for the game is another adventure not unlike Curse of Naxxramas. It’s dubbed Blackrock Mountain, and it follows the theme of a never-ending battle in the depths of a molten core between two fiery entities — Ragnaros the Firelord, and the dragon Nefarious — to determine who will maintain control of the mountain once and for all.

The expansion adds 31 new cards to be earned through a total of 5 wings (released weekly) and 17 bosses. It’ll cost 700 gold or $6.99 per wing, or you can opt to pre-order the entire bundle of wings for $24.99 (which you’ll be able to do starting March 19th). Unfortunately the first wing doesn’t seem to be free so you’ll have to spend something in order to go along for the ride.

Blizzard has already previewed five of the new cards ahead of the update’s April landing date:

Beyond that, they’ve given us an early look at the three card backs they’ll be offering to commemorate the launch. On the far left you’ll see the standard card back for reaching rank 20 in the March season of play, the middle cardback is earned by defeating the Heroic (overpowered) versions of each Blackrock boss, and the far right cardback is earned by pre-ordering the game.

There was one other bit of news Blizzard had to share before they peaced out: the phone version is still in the works, and it’s coming along quite well. While it’s been possible to get Hearthstone loaded up onto an Android phone through the use of tricks, it doesn’t do anything to make a user interface that’s suitable for phones.

Thankfully Blizzard has come up with a way to squeeze everything you need into these small-sized devices so you can get the same Hearthstone experience without needing to tote a hefty tablet everywhere. They’ve also confirmed that phone users will be able to play PC and tablet users in cross-platform and cross-device fashion (which also means your decks, cards, gold and dust are all the same no matter which device you decide to play on).

That’s all we know about the phone version right now. Blizzard said it’s still in alpha stages, but they’re working incredibly hard to get it ready for release. As for Blackrock Mountain, look forward to that at some point in April.

Android TV: How To Stop Android TV Recommending Content To Watch On The Main Screen

Nexus Player owners out there may have noticed that every time they launch Android TV (technically just switch to it as it is always on running in the background), they are always greeted with a long list of recommendations. These are typically based on your watching and app habits. Not to mention there seems to be a bit of a bias towards Google Play services. As such you are presented with this long list of things you might want to watch. That can be handy if you do want to watch them, although there is probably a good chance you have very rarely clicked on any of these links.

So maybe you would like to stop recommendations from being displayed? Or maybe you just do not want anyone who sees your TV seeing what type of content you have been watching recently. Well, either way and for whatever reason, you should know that they can be turned off. And fairly easily too.

For the example, we will remove Hulu Plus which seems to keep offering recommendations in spite of not having a Hulu Plus account. Although, you can perform these actions for any app which keeps showing up in your recommendations.

To start, you will need to head down to “Settings”.

From here, head over to “Apps”.

Head to the app you want to ‘silence’.

And once clicked on, scroll down to “Notifications”.

Click on notifications and then click “Off”.

From now on the notifications for that particular app will no longer show up.

If you want to remove Google apps like YouTube or Google Play Movies you will not find them under the normal apps line. Instead, you will have to go down to “System Apps”, as this seems to be where all the Google Apps seem to hide.

From here, you will be able to repeat the procedure above and silence the Google Apps too. What’s more, you can keep removing apps which are showing up in the recommendations.

Literally, until no apps or content is recommended and you have your main screen back.
