OnePlus One Begins to Receive CyanogenMod 13.0 (Marshmallow) Update

Owners of the OnePlus One should be seeing Marshmallow hit their devices this week, with OnePlus announcing the rollout late last week. Inside, CyanogenMod 13.0, based on Android 6.0+ Marshmallow, brings many features that OnePlus One folk have been waiting months for, such as Doze, Now on Tap, enhanced app permissions, and much more.

According to OnePlus, the rollout will be taking place in waves, so if this device is your daily driver, don’t be concerned if you have yet to see it. You should have the update within the next week or so.

The CM team took to their blog to highlight all of the changes, and the list is rather long, just as you might expect a jump from Lollipop to Marshmallow to be. On top of the goodies Google baked in, there are plenty of CyanogenMod tweaks in addition, such as status bar settings, lockscreen settings, and more.

If you rock the OnePlus One, be on the lookout.

Share Dropbox Files Directly Inside of Facebook Messenger

Starting this week, users of Facebook Messenger and Dropbox can begin to share files stored on Dropbox directly within the Messenger app, no longer needing users to share files from inside of the Dropbox app. From Dropbox, a user can share videos, pictures, and even GIF images.

To access this function, while inside of a Messenger thread on your mobile device, hit the More button. Once pressed, you will see a Dropbox setting which will then allow for the syncing of data between the services. From here, simply select which file you want shared.

If you are attempting to share a data file, such a Word document, the recipient can open the file inside of the Dropbox app. All other files, like multimedia, can be viewed normally inside of Messenger, which is a very nice touch.

To get started, you will need Messenger and the updated Dropbox app, available today on Google Play. Follow the links below to make sure you are all updated.

Google’s Voice Access App Allows for Complete Control With Just Your Voice

In an effort to improve access to technology for those with disabilities, Google is upgrading its set of accessibility tools available across multiple platforms. The largest of which, at least in our opinion, is the availability of a new Voice Access app on Google Play. Currently downloadable via a beta, Voice Access allows users to control all aspects of their smartphone by speaking simple commands. You can swipe across your screen, open apps, and send messages all by using your voice.

When enabled, Voice Access assigns all objects on a screen with a number. A user can then simply command the phone to open a select app, perform a certain function, or swipe through any app using their voice. Any app is supported, making it perfect for those who can’t use their hands as others normally would.

To enable Voice Access once this app is installed, you can head into the Accessibility menu in the settings menu. Once enabled, all actions can be controlled by your voice. To disable the feature, head to the same menu. It should also be noted that many phones already offer a feature like Voice Access, but are not quite as advanced.

In addition to this new app, Google previously introduced voice dictation for its Google Docs app on desktop computers, as well as launched a better desktop reader for Chromebook laptops.

To try out Voice Access on your own phone, signup for the beta by clicking the link below, then downloading it directly from Google Play.

Question of the Day: Why Don’t You Care About HTC Anymore?

We’re on the eve of HTC announcing their next phone, a phone we all expect to be called the HTC 10, at least according to this leaked promo video. We have seen leaked imagery, leaked press renders, leaked specs, and shared the wallpapers from the device within the past month or so, because HTC isn’t exactly the best when it comes to keeping future products a secret. But that isn’t what we want to talk about today. We want to talk about why very few of you seem to care about HTC these days.

Why do I say that, you ask? Just go look through every single HTC 10 post we have written in recent months – they are all filled with comments from you about the possibility of HTC’s imminent death. Sure, there are a few comments from HTC’s biggest fans, about how they think the 10 will be a winner and why they thought previous One M devices were great, but there aren’t many.

Even after HTC has given us a number of great phones over the years (DROID Incredible and EVO), helped usher the world into metal phones, and is getting better and better about software updates, it’s rare to see anyone get excited about HTC’s next in line. I can’t help but think that is unfortunate, especially as smartphone manufacturers outside of Apple and Samsung seem to be struggling each quarter.

So tell us, why don’t you care about HTC anymore? Is it because of the One M series not living up to your expectations? Is it a software update or experience issue? Are you mad that they are switching focus to VR and the Vive? Are you just sick of them dancing around camera experiences with gimmicks? Do you hate iPhone clones that much? What is it?

With the HTC 10 arriving tomorrow, let’s talk about this in the comments.

DEAL: Big Discounts on Aukey Quick Charge 3.0 Chargers With These Codes

Aukey, one of the leaders and early adopters in Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology, has handed us a few coupon codes for extra discounts on some of their best selling products to share. They are currently handing out additional price drops on their 2-port QC 3.0 car charger, single port wall charger, and 2-port wall charger. With these new discounts, you can get into a QC 3.0 charger for as little as $12.99.

With Quick Charge 3.0, like with QC 2.0, you get excellent charging speeds that dramatically reduce the time you need to stay connected to a charger. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology really is one of those game-changing technologies because battery technology still hasn’t caught up to our non-stop, always-moving lives. We’ve talked ad nauseam, but it’s one of those newish techs worth investing in if you haven’t already.

At this time the LG G5 supports QC 3.0, but we are expecting the HTC 10 too as well.

You’ll find links and codes below.

Fenix Developer Releases Quote, a Feedly Alternative App

The developer behind Fenix, a very popular 3rd-party Twitter app, released another app to Google Play this week, one which looks to replace your Feedly app. Quote, available for free on Google Play, enhances the Feedly experience with vast sync options, settable themes, and much more.

As listed in the app’s description on Google Play, users will have a full screen reading experience, gesture navigation, Readability support, offline caching for images and articles, and a search RSS feature. Additional features can be unlocked via a single IAP, which grants access to an ad-free experience, multiple account support, and additional themes.

If you happen to use Feedly, and are familiar with how good Fenix is, then you know what to expect from Quote. Fenix continues to receive timely updates to bring new features, so expect the developer to treat Quote the same.

If a RSS reader is how you partake in DL’s content, then by all means, check out Quote.

AT&T Introduces Comcast-Like Triple Play for TV, Internet, Wireless

I’m sure you saw this coming, but AT&T, now that it has merged with DIRECTV and really, really, really, really wants you to subscribe to all the things (just boot up a G5 for the first time on AT&T), is offering up a “triple play” for its services, just like Comcast has been doing for years. The idea is that as you bundle (I shutter every time I hear that word now.) you begin to save money.

AT&T says that customers can save up to 40% on all services if they bundle into a triple play.  That means signing up for DIRECTV SELECT with a guaranteed $50 per month price for two years “when you add it to an eligible new or existing AT&T service, like wireless or home internet.” That price includes the equipment coverage as well, since that cost has been built into the price.

Interested in a triple play from yet another cable company? To learn more, hit up that source link below.

Motorola Taps Legendary Graffiti Artist to Create Limited Edition Moto X Pure Edition

Motorola recently had Futura (aka Futura 2000), a pioneer graffiti artist, create 30 limited edition Moto X Pure Edition devices. Inside of an art studio, Futura personally sprayed 30 Moto X Pure phones, which Motorola later sold. To hype the project, Motorola created a brief video, which details the process of the phones being sprayed.

During the length of the video, Futura talks about the history of his career, as well as the positives of Motorola allowing for the personal customization of devices. While he does not specifically mention Moto Maker, we get the sense that is what he was referring to.

Whether this video represents Moto’s past efforts in creating a better personalization process, or we can expect even more extravagant attempts at phone customization, the phones that Futura sprays look pretty incredible.

While this is very cool, it’s a bummer Motorola never gave anyone the heads-up that they would be selling these devices. At least give me a chance, Moto.

Video: HTC 10 Unveiling Clip Hits the Web Early

HTC intends to officially unveil the HTC 10 tomorrow morning, but the Internet has unofficially beaten them to the punch. In a leaked unveiling video posted to YouTube, we get to see the HTC 10 from all angles, including the endless amounts of chamfer that surrounds the entire phone’s backside. To sum it up, this is likely the clip that will be played during tomorrow’s online unveiling for the phone.

What we see in the video is a rectangular box shaved into the shape of a smartphone. Then, thanks to laser effects, we see the chamfered backside get cut, followed by the HTC logo getting etched in. We get a complete hardware wraparound tour, complete with a look at the bottom-facing BoomSound speaker and USB Type-C port, reported 5.1″ QHD display, volume rocker, textured power button, rear-facing UltraPixel camera, and the fingerprint reader slash home button on the bottom chin of the phone. Overall, the phone looks rather handsome.

Thanks to previous leaks, we know the specs should be right on par with the Galaxy S7, minus IP68 water and dust resistance. We can expect the Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, super high-res display, and a great camera experience. The only downside, at least from my perspective, is that HTC decided to swap dual front-facing speakers for a fingerprint reader and capacitive buttons. Not the best decision in my book, but we shall see what the masses think when the company announces the phone tomorrow.

Tomorrow, April 12, is the big day. Raise your hand if you are excited.

T-Mobile Begins Pushing Marshmallow Update to Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

This morning, T-Mobile began pushing the update for Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, satisfying the hundreds of you who have been complaining non-stop in our Twitter feed after every post we make about every other carrier’s S6 and S6 Edge getting Marshmallow. Granted, I can’t say I blame you for complaining, since T-Mobile is typically much quicker than the rest and this time struggled to get a major update out to the masses. So complainers, complainers that we love, today is your day.

Once updated, both S6 and S6 Edge owners will be able to use Google Now on Tap, see longer battery life through Doze, and enjoy finer controls over app permissions. The S6 Edge will also grab a bunch of new Edge features that take it from useless single-paneled Edge, to 2-wide beast software. Well, they at least make it useful.

Both the regular Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are seeing software version UVU3EPD1 with the update.

The update may be live already, so to check, head into Settings>About device>Software update.

With the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5 on Verizon all receiving the update to Marshmallow within the past month, we were starting to wonder if the Galaxy S6 Edge+ had been forgotten about. Well, it hasn’t been. Just prior to the weekend, Verizon approved the update to Android 6.0.1 for the bigger-edged S6, along with another update for the Note 5 that should improve WiFi connections.

In the S6 Edge+ Marshmallow update, you’ll get a bunch of Edge software tweaks with new panels that are extra wide and easier to access (more here), plus support for Google Now on Tap, Doze, WiFi Calling, Live Broadcast improvements, and a bunch of UI tweaks (like new icons) to bring the software in line with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

The update will arrive as software version VRU2BPC2.
