Nexus 6 WiFi Calling Update Approved by T-Mobile, Should Roll Out Soon

Breaking news on this Friday. T-Mobile just approved a software update for the Nexus 6, which to the delight of owners, will enable WiFi Calling. We have been following the saga of this update, and according to T-Mo’s Des Smith, a handful of owners should see the update this weekend.

Once owners receive this update, they will be able to make calls over a WiFi connection, instead of relying on a network. This is usually a feature highlighted very largely by T-Mobile’s marketing department, and finally, it’s coming to the Nexus 6.

Des states that if all goes well, completion of the rollout should take a couple of weeks.

You excited, Nexus 6 owners?

Posted up on Best Buy’s website, when you pre-order the upcoming LG G4, you shall receive a $100 gift card to spend on whatever you would like.

LG G Watch R to Receive WiFi Support Via Update in Q3

According to a statement from LG, the G Watch R, which currently does not support WiFi connectivity, should be receiving a Maintenance Release sometime in Q3 of this year, bringing WiFi functionality.

This added connectivity allows for cloud sync over WiFi for Android Wear devices, which connects your smartphone and smartwatch via WiFi for syncing data between the two.

In the statement, LG claims they have engineers currently working on the patch for the G Watch R. If you are rocking an original G Watch, though, the company states that device was never intended to feature WiFi support.

LG Watch Urbane is the only wearable device Currently shipping with the latest version of Android Wear OS and is Wi-Fi capable out of the box. The original LG G Watch was not designed with Wi-Fi in mind and will not have this capability even after the Android Wear update. LG G Watch R will require a maintenance release after the patch update to Android Wear-access Wi-Fi networks. LG engineers are preparing the patch now for availability in the third quarter.

Q3 is a bit away, but for G Watch R owners, better late than never.

Google Reportedly Adding Fingerprint Authentication in Android ‘M’

It is rumored, and sort of confirmed, that Google will announce Android M at next week’s Google I/O developer conference. What Google officially plans to announce with Android M is still unknown, but one report floating around claims the company will introduce native Fingerprint Authentication to the OS, bringing an end to third-party OEM solutions.

If true, Android M users who own a device with a built-in fingerprint reader will be able to log into their devices and use secured apps without having to type in a password, just as we have now on smartphones such as the Galaxy S6. Furthermore, with Google creating a standard for Android handsets, it should allow many device makers to include this technology in upcoming devices, even if they do not have a history of creating fingerprint readers.

Google I/O is only a few days away now, and you can rest assured that the DL team will be on hand for when all of the excitement that goes down in San Francisco.

What is your take on fingerprint readers? Convenient? Pointless?

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge ‘Iron Man’ Edition Launches Next Week

Samsung is back this week, teasing the upcoming Iron Man edition of the Galaxy S6 Edge, this time on the company’s Facebook page. According to the post, the device will be available starting next week, but sadly, we still don’t have official launch details or pricing from Samsung.

Given that this image was posted to Samsung’s Korean page, it might be safe to assume the device will definitely be available in South Korea, but we are still awaiting official word for the US.

The image shows the Iron Man helmet on the backside of the device, but we still can’t quite make out the colors Samsung chose for the phone. We do hope they stick with the Gold and Hot-Rod Red, though.

If the phone does hit the US, and for a non ridiculous price, would you pick it up?

Sprint’s LG G4 Arrives June 5, Confirms Free Goodie Package of SD Card and More

A week ago, we told you to expect a sweet little bundle of goodies should you decide to buy an LG G4. That bundle, according to our exclusive report, would include a free 32GB microSD card, extra 3,000mAh battery, and battery charging cradle. This morning, Sprint confirmed the bundle, while also announcing that their variant of the G4 would be available June 5.

Sprint’s pricing of the device looks about like we expected it to be, with $199 2-year contract and $599 full retail prices. If you choose a monthly payment plan or their “lease” program, you are looking at monthly payments of anywhere from $18 to $25.

As for the free goodies, Sprint says that you have a limited time to claim them. The process will happen through a third party site that will be provided to customers at the time of purchase.
