Amazon releasing new games to take advantage of Fire Phone features

amazon_new_device_teaser_image

When the Fire Phone was announced, many wondered how exactly it would utilize so many sensors for the Dynamic Perspect. Specifically, there was a concern with games. How could Amazon possibly take advantage of a key feature for gaming? Well, the company is putting its Game Studios to work. The company has developed two games for the Fire Phone just in time for its launch on July 25.

Both games Amazon is releasing belong to the puzzle genre but differ slightly. To-Fu Fury is a platformer that literally features a ninja-like tofu. The other is Saber’s Edge and involves strategic play and pirates. Be prepared to move around while playing because movement is exactly what these two were designed for. Both cost $1.99 and are ready for Fire Phone owners.

Amazon Wallet is a new digital wallet to compete with Google and Isis

amazon_wallet_app_icon

There are a few options for people wanting to take everything in their wallet and turn it digital. Google Wallet and Isis (which it is being called for now) are both among the popular choices. Amazon is the newest entrant with an appropriately named app. Amazon Wallet will collect and store you gift cards and loyalty cards from various retailers and companies.

Right now, Amazon Wallet is missing the ability to actually act as a payment tool. So its current state is more of a digital wallet strictly for storage. To easily add items to the digital wallet, Amazon Wallet will allow users to use their devices to scan barcodes.

Facebook adds ‘Save’ feature that lets you save stuff to read or watch later

Facebook_New_Save_Feature_01

So you’re perusing through your Facebook timeline and suddenly you come by a wonderful video of someone’s cat fighting with the neighbor’s dog. Unfortunately, you just won’t have time to watch it, but you don’t want to miss it. What do you do?

Have no fear because Facebook rolled out a new feature today called “Save” that will let you “save” that video to watch later. Now this isn’t a save offline feature like what Pocket or Evernote offers. It’s more of a bookmark because you still have to be logged into Facebook and online to see whatever content you have saved.

It should come in handy for the Facebook faithful that have tons of posts to sift through.

New and improved ‘Explore Nearby feature’ coming to Google Maps

Google_Maps_New_Explore_Nearby_Screens_01

Google recently updated the Maps app last week with new features, but it looks like a handful of people are getting one additional feature. It’s a new and improved “Explore Nearby.”

Everybody already has the current version of Explore Nearby, which will give you ideas for different types of establishments. This newer version gets its own button at the bottom right, and it’s more powerful. It has more groups along with points of interest. You can even select the time of day to get better suggestions such as a bar for later at night.

We aren’t sure when this will land on an official update, but we are thinking sooner rather than later.

Modern Combat 5 Gets Pirated Just Days Before Official Launch

MC5-Blackwater-Lobby-Image

After a very long wait for the 5th game in a series that has become Gameloft’s biggest and easily most recognizable franchise, Modern Combat, we have just mere days to wait before the official launch of the game. Up to now we have in recent months been receiving all kinds of detailed goodies about the game from screenshots, hands on gameplay footage from toucharcade and Gameloft themselves at E3 when they showed it off at the booth they had, to some of what we can expect from the games features like information about the included SSAO capability of the game.

All things considered, Modern Combat 5 will be one of the best games of the year most likely, and it will without a doubt be a premium game from Gameloft, something that is rare in this day and age from them and many other developers due to increased popularity of in-app-purchases and the fremium model for games on mobile. The game is due to release globally on Android, iOS, Windows Phone 8 and Windows PC on July 24th,(that’s just two days from now)yet some lucky people, or perhaps just one lucky person had gotten a hold of the game prior to launch. According to Polygon, the game was given out to at least one individual through a contest that Gameloft held, and this isn’t a press build of the game like we get here at AH sometimes to test things before a launch. This was a finalized full version of the game. This so far is the only way Gameloft has made the game available, yet thousands of people have already gotten their hands on the game due to someone leaking the game online, but not before cracking it for use by others.

The reports are suggesting that the person who had won a copy of the game had either leaked it to a friend who potentially uploaded a cracked copy, leaked it to someone who could knowingly crack it and upload it for the masses, or cracked it and uploaded it themselves. Although thankfully Gameloft had reported that they have turned on their anti-piracy system thus making all non-official copies of the game inoperable, it’s things like this that cause the freemium games to become more enticing to game developers on mobile. When people pirate and make available for others to pirate a game which normally costs money and has no IAP’s whatsoever, we can only imagine that developer’s like Gameloft want to stick with a F2P pay system. The interesting thing is, all those who have a pirated copy of the game will just have to end up buying it anyway, and have potentially opened themselves up to a ban if they’re found out to have pirated the game in the first place.

[New App] Microsoft Account Gives You Easy Access To Two-Factor Authentication For Windows And More

unnamed (6) Users of newer versions of Windows or just about any Microsoft web service might be familiar with the company's rudimentary two-factor authentication system. If it's been a while since you've logged in or you're setting up a new Windows device, it might ask you for a verification code, accessible from a backup email account. Of course that can be a pain if you don't remember the password for that account, or simply don't want to dig it out.

Chromecast exploit could allow hackers to hijack your dongle and play whatever they like [VIDEO]

Chromecast Featured ready to cast

WARNING: Your Chromecast is no longer safe… from hackers with the time and knowledge to build a hacking device out of a Raspberry Pi. As far fetched as that may sound, it is possible. In fact, one man — a security consultant named Den Petro — actually went through the trouble of creating a little proof-of-concept device he calls the “Rickmote.”

The tiny device — built using an affordable Raspberry Pi — takes advantage of an exploit that allows it to easily hack into your Chromecast and play whatever video (or music or pictures) it liked, with no way for you to regain control. Because Rick Astley’s famous music video was the streaming media of choice, that’s how the device found its name.

Rickmote-1-e1405529623222

How it works is the Rickmote floods the Chromecast with de-authenticate packets, a normal function found in the WiFi standard. It’s only because of the unique way the Chromecast handles deauth commands that makes it susceptible to hijacking. When faced with too many deauth commands, Google’s dongle will simply boot into setup mode, making it easy for a very bad person to connect to the dongle and stream whatever they liked.

In fact, the Rickmote doesn’t even need to be connected to your secured WiFi network to hack into the Chromecast, making it all the more threatening (or annoying, rather). Since this is actually how the Chromecast was designed to work, it seems unlikely Google will make an attempt at addressing this newly discovered “exploit” unless they revised the hardware somewhere down the road.

So what are the odds you find your Chromecast hijacked and playing the most exotic adult movies the internet has to offer? Extremely unlikely. First, the prankster would need to be in range of your network — as well as one of their own — in order to stream their own media to your Chromecast. Once they got out of range, the Chromecast would be yours to setup again. For now, we’re sure your Chromecast is (probably) safe.

Samsung doesn’t think iPhone fans should wait 2 more months for a bigger iPhone

Samsung_Screenshot_From_Screen_Envy_Commercial_01

When it comes to the iPhone, Samsung has never beaten around the bush. They think they have a superior product and they have mocked iPhone users for a while now. In their latest commercial, it’s all about the display size.

Apple has always been behind the times when it comes to the display. It was only about two years ago, when they finally bumped up the iPhone to 4-inches from 3.5-inches. Apple is expected to finally release something that is closer to the norm in September. The iPhone 6 will mostly likely sport a 4.7-inch display. Samsung thinks that iPhone fans should stop the waiting and just go and buy a Galaxy S 5.

With only about 2 months to go, is this really an effective ad? Does Samsung really think that the diehard Apple fan will just switch now after already waiting a few years? Highly unlikely, but we love Samsung’s commercials so check it out below.

[New App] Amazon Releases A Beta Version Of Amazon Wallet On The Play Store And Appstore

unnamed Last week Google released a sizeable update to Google Wallet that finally let you carry loyalty cards in digital form. Now Amazon has released its own version of... pretty much the same thing, minus all the other stuff that Google Wallet does. Amazon Wallet is currently in beta on both the Google Play Store and Amazon's own Appstore in a rare simultaneous release. Compatibility seems to be limited to phones at the moment, and since it's labeled as "for Fire Phone" on this promo page, it may be pre-loaded on that device.
