LG G3 Stylus Specs

LG-G3-Stylus-AH-2

Now that the LG G3 Stylus is official. Let’s check out the specs for LG’s latest smartphone to join the LG G3 family. The LG G3 Stylus definitely isn’t a high-end device, but it definitely is going to be a head turner, especially for being a mid-range device for 3G markets. Let’s take a look at the specs.

The LG G3 Stylus features a 5.5-inch qHD IPS display (960×540 resolution). Along with a quad-core 1.3GHz chipset (likely a MediaTek processor, since it’s only for 3G markets). It’s also got 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a microSD card slot. LG has also added on a 13MP camera with a 1.3MP front-facing camera. As far as dimensions go, it’s 149.3 x 75.9 x 10.2mm. It weighs in at just 163g as well. It only features 3G connectivity, and not 4G LTE, and no mention of HSPA+ just yet, unfortunately. We also have a removable 3,000mAh battery inside. It’s available in Black, white and gold. It’s also got a stylus pen included, much like the Galaxy Note lineup from Samsung.

As far as software goes, we’re looking at Android 4.4.2 KitKat as well as their own UX on board (which is still technically called Optimus UX). What else does LG have in store for the LG G3 Stylus? We’ve also got QuickMemo+, Dual Window, Smart Keyboard, Touch & Shoot, Gesture Shot and Knock Code. Which are all found on the LG G3, that LG announced earlier this year.

It’s definitely not a high-end device from LG, but everyone looking for a smartphone with a stylus, well it’s here. It may not be what you want, but it’s better than nothing. It will be on display at LG’s booth at IFA next week, so we’ll likely see more information on the LG G3 Stylus when IFA 2014 opens up on September 5th.

AH Top 10 Games Monthly 3

UnpossibleUnpossible

Unpossible is an endless racer of sorts. There are multiple stages to play, each stage being a little more difficult than the last, however you can only play later stages after unlocking them. To do so you must last at least 60 seconds on the current(or first if you’re just starting out)stage and avoid obstacles through all kinds of twists and turns. You’ll have to twist around the track that you’re racing on to dodge obstacles, and see how far you can go to get the highest score possible. Everything is dressed in a futuristic setting that is somewhat Tron like, and there are multiple modes to really test your skills once you think you’ve gotten the hang of things. You can pick up Unpossible for a mere $1.99 in the Play Store.

Deep Under The SkyDeep Under The Sky

We wrote about Deep Under The Sky yesterday, as it’s the next action title from developer Sarah Northway who brought us Incredipede. This atmospheric action game with physics elements has you take on the roll of a jelly fish and you have to navigate your way through a vibrant underwater world on the planet Venus. There’s tons of stuff to explore and you’ll want to see everything you possibly can. There are 80 total levels of color splashed worlds to explore and the game controls for this physics title are as simple as one button, because there’s only one button, the button to navigate your jelly fish. The game sounds easier than it is, but that gives it a challenge and if you want to see everything the planet has to offer you’ll have to time your bursts just right. You can pick up Deep Under The Sky for just $2.99 on the Play Store.

Wan Nyan SlashWan Nyan Slash

Wan Nyan Slash is an endless runner/slasher game where you play the roles of both Wan and Nyan, the ninja slashing cats. As you run through the stage you’ll have to drag your finger across the screen for Wan and Nyan so that you can dispatch your foes. As you get further in the level you’ll encounter harder enemies, and they pop up more frequently. If you can master the art of Wan and Nyan’s secret special moves however than you can do devastating combos to unleash the fury. There’s Google Play Games support with achievements and leader boards, sharing scores through Facebook and Twitter, unlockable costumes for Wan and Nayn which provide you with special attributes, and the regions are randomly generated(including day and night times)each time you play so things don’t get so boring. Wan Nyan Slash can be picked up for just $0.99 from the Play Store.

Dragon Quest IVDragon Quest IV

Square Enix’s second popular title in the Dragon Quest franchise hit Android earlier this month. Dragon Quest IV follows up Dragon Quest VIII to give RPG fans over 40 hours of gameplay time, and one of the best and most epic stories of any old school JRPG. Dragon Quest IV offers up five totally unique stories all wrapped up into one huge adventure. Just like in Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest IV lets you set your party members to automatic so they battle on their own. It also features the same 360 degree views, so you can spin the camera around to see all of the landscape. If you love RPG titles, this is a must have. It’s a bit pricey at $14.99 but you can pick it up immediately on the Play Store.

Arcane SoulAH Arcane Soul

Arcane Soul was our game of the week this week, and for good reason. It’s a sidescrolling action RPG hack and slash game, and while the storyline doesn’t seem nearly as in depth as something like Zenonia, you’ll be able to appreciate what it provides. The graphics are a wonderful mix of anime like style and hand drawn art, all rendered in beautiful HD at 60fps. There are three playable characters, with the male and female sowrdsman, and the archer. Upgrade your skills and your player stats, farm and collect items and different weapons, battle fierce enemies and play using the on screen touch controls or connect a gamepad. If you like hack and slash RPG titles, check out Arcane Soul. You can grab Arcane Soul for free in the Play Store.

Angel In DangerAngel In Danger

Angel In Danger is an artful and colorful arcade platformer with 4 amazing worlds filled with 24 levels. As the legend goes, the princess has been kidnapped,(the angel princess)and you, who are the ever heroic Angel boy must save her from the evil Lord Debol. The game might be a bit short, but that doesn’t take away from the fun it seems. You can grab Angel In Danger for $0.99 from the Play Store.

Big Action Mega Fight!big action mega fight

If you like beat-em ups with tons of hilarity and lots of action, brawling and fist fighting, big action mega fight is the only game you need. Upgrade your fighting skills in the gym, unlock awesome special attacks that will rain down pain like no other. Did we mention the super awesome soundtrack? If you’re ready for a fight, you can grab Big Action Mega Fight! for $2.99 from the Play Store.

Fuhrer In LAFuhrer In LA

This app needs no explanation, only images need explain why this game is awesome and it’s in the Top 10. The name itself adds a bit of detail as to why it was picked. If you hate to laugh, don’t play this game. If you love smiling and laughter is your secret to a long and healthy life, you must check out Fuhrer in LA. It’s a top down grindhouse style game, the graphics are nothing to impress but the commentary is absolutely hilarious and the actions in game are pretty fun. You thought Hitler was gone but you were wrong. The Nazi lord roams the streets of LA causing menace and havoc. You must help the Fuhrer escape from the confines of the Museum in LA where he was mistakenly placed after he was hidden by the nazis in his secret bunker during the war. Sprint MVNO FreedomPop Said To be Considering Potential Sale To Major Carrier

AH FreedomPop

Acquisitions between carriers seem to have become somewhat of a regular occurrence, with talks of Sprint and T-mobile having gone on for months only to dissolve right before our very eyes. Further talks commenced in regards to a possible acquisition of T-mobile by French carrier iliad, although reports had quickly surfaced that both parent company Deutsche Telekom and T-mobile rejected the offers. The newest bit of news regarding a carrier buyout ties to Sprint MVNO FreedomPop, a low cost and sometimes no cost wireless provider where consumers can get varied packages of phone service based off of their needs. The most basic of packages offered by FreedomPop costs nothing per month, which puts their name to good use, and thus freeing you from your wireless carrier even on a cost front.

FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols has seemingly confirmed to Fierce Wireless that they were definitely of interest to potential buyers, but declined to mention who might be the prospective parties interested. So far all the details that seem to be known at this point in time are that it’s a “major carrier,” which really tells us little about who could be looking at FreedomPop as a future investment. It’s also possible that this deal may never see the light of day as things are said to be in the early stages. For now, things are merely a possibility but in the future FreedomPop could be part of a larger carrier than Sprint.

FreedomPop seems to be taking the idea of the acquisition seriously as Stokols stated they are considering it. This could well be a change in the light of the new things happening at Sprint, with changes brought on by their new CEO Marcelo Claure, beginning with new cheaper plans, and promises of more things shifting around in the near future like network improvement. At this point in time it’s still unconfirmed whether or not the swap of Sprint CEO had anything to do with facilitating this buyout. It’s possible though that even with FreedomPop’s growth, they could be costing Sprint more to maintain than they want. Something that wouldn’t be unjustified with them trying to do everything they can to save money and make necessary changes to their network to compete with rivals Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

Kill Switch Bill Becomes Law Following Signing From California Governor Jerry Brown

Android Device Manager

This likely isn’t the first that you’ve heard of the cellphone kill switch bill, and it likely won’t be the last. That’s because there are many more states that may take a look at the bill and decide to put into motion the passing of a bill of their own along the same lines. The bill was introduced by California state senator Mark Leno and San Francisco’s District Attorney George Gascon, and the two of them have been pushing on this bill since February of this year, urging cell phone makers to start building the kill switch into future devices. Today marks the day of the first state in the U.S pass this bill that requires all smartphones sold in California after July of 2015 to carry the kill switch, whether you like it or not, meaning that the kill switch is mandatory.

Yes that’s right, as of now the law in California state has been passed, which means that future devices around the middle of summer next year will start to carry this technology inside of it. What does that mean for consumers? Essentially phones that you buy from carriers will soon start to carry the kill switch inside, a technology proposed by Leno and Gascon be manufactured into new devices in an effort to thwart the rising theft over smartphones in the areas of Oakland and other cities of California. The kill switch will effectively make it possible for owners of stolen or lost devices to shut down the phone so it isn’t usable by outside and unknown parties that don’t have permission, rendering the device useless.

It seems like a good idea in theory, but of course the bill didn’t go completely without a hitch as it was met with some opposition that it would in the end, only cause the consumer to have to incur a higher cost based off of the requirement for this new technology. Whether you agree with the kill switch tech inside of future devices or not, the fact remains that the bill has now become a law, so expect this feature to be part of your purchases from mid to late summer of next year and going forward. At least in California, although now with this latest detail other states will surely want to take a look into a bill/law of their own. Minnesota has a similar law, although the kill switch is not mandatory in that state but rather something that consumers can opt in to if they so choose.

Burger Kings Holds Online Promotion For Free Smartphones With 2-Year Contract

AH BK

If you love Burger King and you love smartphones, well, you’re in luck. Today the two are beginning to go hand in hand. Popular fast food chain Burger King,(although perhaps maybe not popular enough if they’re offering promotions for free cell phones instead of focusing on putting out food, which is what their service is)has announced that they’re starting deals for customers to grab a free Android smartphone with a two year contract. You didn’t think that Burger King was just going to give away free phones for nothing did you?

The promotion is in fact not handled at Burger King locations of course, cause that would just be weird and otherwise might get a little messy for the electronics, and we all know that electronics and messes don’t go together. Users will actually have to partake of such promotions through the Burger King website, where they’ll be re-routed to Amazon after they choose an acceptable phone, and surprise surprise, Burger King’s goal behind it all is to get customers and Android owners to use its brand new Burger King Android app. Carls Jr. actually did something that was somewhat similar, where they wanted customers to use their brand new Carls app and in doing you had a chance to win a free Android smartphone, although the details were slightly different and the promotions weren’t run through the website but the app itself. You get the idea though, as both tactics were in effect just a way to get consumers to buy more fast food.

As the reports are stating all three major U.S. carriers are participating in this except T-mobile. So that leaves AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint, and there are a handful of devices that are available through the Burger King promo that customers can acquire, like the Moto X, LG Optimus G Pro, the Casio G’Zone Commando, the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy S4 Active and S4 mini, LG G2, and others. Rest assured though there are no brand new 2014 flagship devices included in this promotion. To get started you just either have to already have service for the chosen carrier/smartphone combo, or setup new service with any of the given choices.

LG Makes The G3 Stylus Official, And It's Basically An Underpowered G3 With A Pen

1

Earlier this month LG let the G3 Stylus slip out in an ad, though at the time we weren't exactly sure what the device was. Now we know, because LG made it official. Spoiler: it's not as cool as you hoped. I promise.

So the G3 Stylus looks like a G3 with a stylus, and it packs some of the features that makes the G3 cool, but it's not a G3 with a stylus.

What’s this about the Moto X+1 to coming equipped with 3D recognition and optical zoom?

Moto X1 evleaks

To say we’re hyped over September 4th’s Motorola event would be an understatement. Where we already have a good idea of what is going to be announced in Chicago, when it comes to the Motorola Moto X+1, there’s still a few small details seemingly left uncovered.

Today, the folks at HelloMotoHK happened upon a few new details regarding the upcoming smartphone as it relates to the display and camera capabilities of the device. According to the leaked screenshot shown below listing off a few of the phone’s upcoming features, the phone could come equipped with some kind of 3D recognition. While not much else was said, memories of the Amazon Fire Phone immediately come to mind. We’ve actually seen Motorola toy around with 3D recognition in the past with their Windy Day app. Whether this is merely more of that, or 4 cameras on the face of the phone is too early to say, but we’re intrigued.

Moto X Plus 1 placeholder banner specs

Also mentioned in the spec sheet is something about a “super camera” featuring an “optical zoom.” Although leaked images of the phone didn’t show anything particularly special about the Moto X+1′s camera, it did have an interested flash setup, with 2 LEDs outfitted on each side of the camera lens. But we wouldn’t get your hopes up too much about this alleged “super camera.” According to early reports from a user who’s played with the phone, the camera still leaves a lot to be desired.

Of course, we’ll reserve judgement until we get our hands on the phone come Thursday of next week.

Owner of a OnePlus One claims his device exploded in back pocket

oneplus_one_explosion_burn

OnePlus has not exactly had an ideal launch for its first device. From the get-go, the OnePlus One has faced production speed bumps and software bugs. Prospective buyers are still required to obtain an invitation in order to make a purchase. The company launched a sexist contest that was quickly pulled (and has since been replaced with a neutral one) most recently. Now, an owner of the OnePlus One is claiming his device exploded while sitting idle in his back pocket.

oneplus_one_explosion_burn_closeup

The owner of this device says he was in the subway when it all went downhill. Ironically, he was talking to his sibling that day about the OnePlus One’s battery life and just how good it is. The device exploded and unsurprisingly damaged the device itself, the TPU case covering it, the owner’s jeans, and it even burned his leg.

Are you still interested in purchasing a OnePlus One? Or have you lacked an interest in the device since it was announced?

Home automation of any kind is a pretty tough market in which many products generally create more problems than they can solve. However, there are a rare few gadgets that don't aim too high or too low, and the results can be profoundly useful to the right customers. A new campaign on Kickstarter might just be primed to hit that sweet spot with a product called AnyMote, a remote-controlled universal remote.
