Xiaomi has had a great year. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer is one of the fastest growing smartphone OEMs in the world and has sold approximately three times as much devices this year, compared to 2013. The company is facing some problems at the moment after being banned from selling handsets (not all of them) in India following Ericsson’s lawsuit, but I’m sure that will get sorted out real quick. The company has been somewhat quiet lately and we haven’t seen a device launched for a while now, but the successor to their extremely popular Redmi 1S smartphone is expected to launch soon, the same might happen with their new flagship as well, at least according to rumors.
That being said, Xiaomi is allowed to sell Snapdragon-powered handsets in India until January 8th, after which they’ll have to wait until February 5th when the hearing is set for the Ericsson patents case there and will hopefully settle that real quick. Considering they can still sell the Snapdragon-powered handsets, company has announced that they’ll release their Redmi Note 4G handset in India on December 30th. The handset will, as usual, be available via Flipkart, which is India’s biggest online retailer. This handset will be available through another “Flash Sale” which is Xiaomi’s way to sell a ton of devices in China real quick. It will be interesting to see if they can sell a ton of devices following all that bad press that they received recently. Anyhow, the sale will start at 2PM (local time), though you’ll be able to purchase the device from select Airtel stores in India.
The Redmi Note 4G will cost you Rs. 9,999 ($157) should you choose to buy it. As far as the specs go, this handset features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which you can expand via MicroSD card. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and the phone ships with a 3100mAh battery. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS on top of it and by the way, this is a single-SIM device.
