Twitter rolled out the “While you were away…” feature last month on the web and iOS, but Android users were left out in the cold. Today we get that feature on Android too, as Twitter has updated the app and begun to roll out “While you were away…” to us as well. “We will surface a few of the best Tweets you probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise, determined by engagement and other factors,” Twitter said on their blog. “If you check in on Twitter now and then for a quick snapshot of what’s happening, you’ll see this recap more often; if you spend a lot of time on Twitter already, you’ll see it less.”
The feature is supposed to help users catch up on tweets that you missed and content that passed you by when you had the app closed. Twitter previewed the feature last year and started rolling it out last December. Now we have it on Android, rounding out the three largest platforms that the service operates on. A lot of people use the Twitter website and for mobile iOS tends to get these types of features first while Android took a back seat again with this new Twitter feature. We have it now, and you should be able to update your official Twitter app and start using it. If you don’t see an update for your official Twitter app just yet, not to worry as updates can sometimes take time and it may be a day or two before it shows up int he “my apps” stream of the Play Store where you go to update apps. If you have auto update enabled it’s also possible that you’ll miss the update happening in the first place and it may already be there.
I don’t know how useful the feature will be for official Twitter users. It seems like something that at least casual users will find handy. If you use a third-party Twitter client like Fenix or Falcon Pro, you won’t see this feature at all. Of course, those third-party apps have great features that you won’t find in the official client to so it is likely a fair trade in the long run.

During the Oscars last night, T-Mobile decided to tease the world with the first glimpse of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S 6. The image has a glowing Galaxy S 6 with the phrase ‘six appeal’ floating above it. Then, earlier today, AT&T introduced the same teaser and the magenta glow was replaced with blue. Another carrier also joined the fun today, too. The image above was provided by Sprint this evening. Once again, the glow has been switched to match Sprint’s yellow.
Now we are waiting for Verizon to start feeling the ‘six appeal.’

Consumers preparing to purchase a new laptop may want to wait a bit longer as a formidable Chrome OS device is on its way to the market. At the Team Work 2015 event, Renee Niemi of Google confirmed that the Chromebook Pixel will see a successor. Niemi, who works on the productivity teams for Android and Chrome, noted that the new Chromebook Pixel would launch soon. She did clarify that a limited amount of units will be produced as it is a proof of concept. Employees within the company and developers working with Google receive about 85% of units produced.
Here is the quote from Niemi:
“We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don’t make very many of these — we really don’t. And [...] our developers and our Googlers consume 85% of what we produce. But yet, we do have a new Pixel coming out.”
Among the specifications expected to be included with the Chromebook Pixel successor is a 12.85-inch display (with at least 2560×1700 resolution) and reversible Type-C USB ports. The processor inside is currently unknown; however, chances are that it ends up being some form of Intel Broadwell. And, depending upon the actual release date, Intel Skylake could be used.
Are you excited for the Chromebook Pixel successor? Let us know in the comments.

There are many compromises associated with designing and building a smartphone. The device needs to combine many different technologies and systems into a small and tightly packed space, without causing interference or poor connectivity. When it comes to networks, modern flagship devices typically have 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC radios competing for antenna space. Some devices have additional radios or technology, such as infrared and FM radio (although most handsets use the headset wire for the FM radio antenna). These antennas must be wired up within the chassis and are often separated within the device – it’s quite common to have the WiFi antenna at one end or side of the device and the 3G antenna at the other. Different materials are better or worse at blocking signals – in short, plastic is great to cover an antenna with, glass not so bad but metal makes life difficult for the radio engineers! This is why many handset manufacturers have resorted to using antennas using the metal of the chassis, but with clever software control and management because depending on how the user holds the device, our skin can reduce the signal.
We’ve seen reports today that the new, unannounced Samsung Galaxy S6 will feature a new antenna type designed to solve the problem of getting signal to and from a glass and metal body. It’s reported that Samsung will be switching from the Laser Direct Structuring (or LDS) manufacturing process to a flexible PCB (FPCB) in order to wire up the various antenna dotted around the chassis. It’s expected that the Galaxy S6 will feature an aluminum chassis with a glass front and rear and if this is the case, I would expect Samsung to use the aluminum ring around the edge of the device as the antenna. It’s reported that the antenna will be flexed in those sections designated for different antenna.
It’s important that Samsung get their antenna arrangements right, because it’s one thing to build a device out of metal and another to get the radios working harmoniously with customers without telling them that they’re holding the device wrong, as Apple’s Steve Jobs did in 2010. Through the years, there have been other devices with notable signal drop when held such as the 2011 HTC Desire S, which can have WiFi connectivity issues depending on how it’s being held. The pressure is on Samsung because whilst Qualcomm introduced smart antenna management into the Snapdragon 800-series processor a year ago, Samsung have been quiet about any smart antenna management functions built into the Exynos processor, reputed to be powering the Galaxy S6. We will hopefully find out soon at the Samsung announcement, due the 1 March!

Well here’s something that many of us won’t like. But it appears as if Toyota will be skipping out on Android Auto, as well as Carplay. According to the New York Times, Toyota is perfectly happy with their own Infotainment system (which I’d hope they are since they are selling 3 of the top 10 best selling cars in the US). Currently Toyota has “no plans” to offer Android Auto in their US cars. Which is a bit sad, especially for Android users that are excited to get their hands on Android Auto. From The New York Times:
“John Hanson, the national manager of Toyota’s advanced technology communications, said while the company talked frequently with both Google and Apple, it currently had no plans to adopt Android Auto or CarPlay in the United States.
“We may all eventually wind up there, but right now we prefer to use our in-house proprietary platforms for those kinds of functions,” Mr. Hanson said.”
Last year, Google announced the Open Automotive Alliance. While many of the car makers were part of that alliance and still are, the most notable car maker that was absent was Toyota. And now we can see why they were absent. In addition, Toyota is also making their own self-driving car without Google’s help. Maybe they have something against Google? Since they have probably the most experience with self-driving cars out there.
So no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay for Toyota owners. Kinda sucks, but at least you’ll be able to get aftermarket Android Auto products from the likes of JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer and others. Which we did see at CES and will likely see at other trade shows in the near future. Currently Google and Apple have not released Android Auto or CarPlay just yet, but they are expected to be released and out on the road at some point this year.
Will this decision by Toyota change how you shop for your next car in the next few years? For a lot of people, no Android Auto, may mean no chance of buying a car from Toyota. Let us know in the comments down below.

HTC’s newest flagship, the One (M9), will launch on March 1st as part of MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona. The company might also launch the One (M9) Plus alongside the One (M9), though those are just rumors at this point. Anyhow, we’ve seen a lot of leaks and rumors regarding their upcoming One (M9) handset, even some benchmarks leaked. Well, this newest leak which comes from Twitter, reveals some additional One (M9) spec details.
According to this leak, the device will feature a 20-megapixel snapper on the back, which will boast f/2.2 aperture and 27.8mm lens equivalent. What does this mean? Well, assuming that this is true, we’re not looking at Sony’s 20-megapixel sensor, but something completely different. The leak also mentions some specs that have leaked many times before, says that the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 64-bit octa-core processor (4 cores clocked at 2GHz, another four at 1.5GHz) along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics. Android 5.0.2 is also mentioned here, once again confirming the One (M9) will be running Android Lollipop at launch.
According to a previous CompuBench listing, this handset will also feature a 5-inch 1920 x 1200 display and 3GB of RAM. 32GB of internal storage was also listed, though the device will be available in multiple storage variants. CompuBench listing did mention Android 5.0.1, while this new leak says the device will run Android 5.0.2, it remains to be seen which one of the two will be. Also, the clock rates differ in CompuBench’s listing, but those are only tiny details that can change by the time this device launches. We’ll find out everything on March 1st when HTC will launch this device, but considering the amount of leaks we’ve seen thus far, we have a rather good idea what the device will both look like and what specifications will it sport in the end.
It seems like HTC decided to kick it up a notch when it comes to the camera sensor, and that they’ll stick with the metal unibody design. Let us know if you like what you’ve seen thus far, and do you intend to purchase this device once it’s available?

Samsung is trying to make sure that everyone is excited when it comes its forthcoming Galaxy S6 and all the buzz surrounding the phone confirms it. Samsung has been at its best this time by posting posters, teasers, videos and even teasers about rumors that entail the Galaxy S6. In a new video posted by the brand recently, we get glimpses to place our bets on the fact that the Galaxy S6 will have a seamless metal body that would make it look virtually borderless.
The Galaxy S6 is expected to have some kind of dual curved display(as suggested in the picture above) that would wrap around the display and merge in the body on the sides, thus giving a seemingly borderless look to the device. The video we are talking about can be found below, the narrator seems to give some sort of cryptic description by saying “metals will flow” and “borders will disappear” along with “reflections will be free” thereby also hinting at an anti-reflective material being used for the Galaxy S6.
Considering how badly the Galaxy S5 and pretty much all previous Galaxy phones were criticized for poor build quality and choice of materials, it comes across as no surprise that Samsung is heavily investing to correct these aspects. The video also showcases the Galaxy S6 for a brief moment, totally blurred out in a cast of green smoke. One may clearly notice the curved display that flows into the sides. We are expecting Samsung to bring out two variants of the Galaxy S6 – one with a more conventional display and one with the ‘Edge’ branding that would have a display that would wrap around the sides. There are three clear messages Samsung would like to send out with the Galaxy S6 – Speed, Better Camera Clarity and a something that reads ‘Stop Less. Discover More’ suggesting a rapid charging technology or wireless charging of some sort.
At the end of the day, we are just joining the dots based on the leaks and teasers that surface. Things are definitely getting interesting here with leaks adding clarity and detail, if they turn out to be true, are you willing to invest in a brand new Galaxy S6?

Apple and Samsung are currently the two biggest smartphone manufacturers in the world. They actually share the first place according to the latest available info, Apple managed to catch up to Samsung in Q4 2014 due to profit and sales issues Samsung had last year. These two companies have been suing each other for quite some time, and have finally decided to make peace (to some extent) in June last year. Both of these tech giants have come to an agreement and dropped the majority of lawsuits against each other. Samsung is still supplying components to Apple, and it seems like the relationship between the two companies has somewhat improved.
The Cupertino-based giant seems interested in Samsung’s employees it seems. According to a new report from Korea Times, Apple is trying to lure some of Samsung’s experts in next-gen technology to work for them. The report also states that Apple is looking for experts in “signal and visual processing management” technology. The source claims that some of Samsung’s employees have already transferred to Apple, and that they were offered great benefits if they accept the job. The report also says that Apple wants to hire former Samsung officials as well, those who specialized in battery technology that is. As a side note, Samsung SDI is one of the biggest battery suppliers to major automobile companies, like BMW for example. Is Apple looking for some experts in order to help them with their electric cars that the company is reportedly working on?
That’s not all though, Lee Jae-yong, the son of Samsung’s departing Chairman, is allegedly looking to not only maintain, but also strengthen Samsung’s relationship with Apple. These are some interesting news from Korea, lots of information here. Do you think that the relationship between the two companies will become stronger, or can we expect a fallout soon? Also, do you think Apple is developing the rumored electric cars, is that the reason they want to lure some experts away from Samsung, or is there another reason behind it? Let us know what you think in the comments, we’d love to hear from you.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is sure to be on the carriers’ big hype list for promoting new smartphones in 2015, and T-Mobile’s already getting the fun started. The company’s sign up page for Samsung’s “next big thing” has gone live, and on it we see a nice little teaser that actually reveals a bit of its design.
This would be our first real look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 without it being draped in cases, barely visible in a blurry cam photo or being a mere mockup of someone else’s fantasy. This is the real deal, and it’s going to be revealed March 1st.
This particular teaser seems to flaunt the device’s metal build we’ve been hearing about. The weird curvature on the device also might hint that this could be the Edge variant of the Samsung Galaxy S6, but it could just be the workings of over-applied reflection techniques in photoshop.
That small taste is all we get, though, and we likely won’t be treated to the full course meal until March 1st arrives.

As you all probably know by now, Samsung will hold their “Unpacked” in Barcelona as part of MWC (Mobile World Congress) on March 1st. The company is set to launch their Galaxy S6 flagship at the event, the much-rumored handset which has been teased extensively by the company lately. The Galaxy S6 Edge handset with curved display on both left and right sides is rumored to launch alongside the Galaxy S6.
As we’re waiting for Samsung’s event, new reports are coming in. The newest one comes from Korea Herald, and says that Samsung gave certain carriers a sneak peak at both of these devices, and left them speechless in a way. The report says that Samsung offered the executives of T-Mobile, Sprint, Vodafone and Korea SK Telecom a sneak peak at the device, and the reaction were more than great. They really liked the new design of the Galaxy S devices. “Some executives said the new phones were the best of the best among Samsung-made phones,” said an unnamed source.
The report goes on saying that the executives were more interested in the Galaxy S6 Edge, which sports curved display on both sides. “They said the Edge was better than Apple’s iPhone 6 in terms of design,” said the aforementioned unnamed source. The report also says that Samsung has already met with a lot of carriers in order to agree on marketing plans and release schedule.
“The S6 will become a new driving force for Samsung’s growth, outselling the S5 at least,” said Noh Keun-chang, an analyst at HMC Investment & Securities. Samsung has been hyping up these two devices for quite some time now, and many people think this is “make-it-or-break-it year for the company. Their profits went down significantly last year, and Apple managed to catch up to them. We’ll see if these new Galaxy S devices are really worth all this hype. Do you think Samsung will get back on track with the help of the new Galaxy S devices, or do you think they won’t make much of a difference in the market?

Most of you have probably heard of Kyocera by now, a Japan-based smartphone manufacturer which is best known for its rugged smartphones. Kyocera isn’t exactly present all around the world, though they are offering their handset in a lot of markets. Consumers in the U.S. probably know this brand really well by now considering some of their operators have been offerings Kyocera’s rugged smartphones for a while now. Anyhow, the company has announced a new handset, let’s see what it has to offers.
Kyocera DuraScout E6782 is a new rugged device by the company, and it offers IPX5 / IPX8 water and IPX6 dust proof certification. The DuraScout E6782 also offers MIL-810G certification for impact, vibration resistance, rain-resistant low pressure, temperature resistance, solar radiation resistance, salt water, and moisture. As you can see, this device is very well protected for a lot of scenarios, but we’ve come to expect that from Kyocera at this point. This handset features a 4.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) LCD display with Sapphire glass protection on top of it, which should offer an extra layer of protection for your smartphone which is meant to be used carelessly. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz is powering on this device along with an Adreno 305 GPU for graphics. 2GB of RAM ships with this device and should be more than enough for your multitasking needs, while 16GB of internal storage is available as well. 8-megapixel snapper is located on the back of this rugged smartphone, and a 2-megapixel shooter is available up front. 3,100mAh battery is also a part of this package, and we’re talking about a 4G LTE (Cat.4) capable handset. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 are also included here.
The price of this device is still unknown at this point, but the company is expected to share that information with the public soon. We still don’t have any information regarding the availability of this device either, but it is safe to assume that it will launch in Asia first, and other markets will follow soon after. Have you had the chance to use the Kyocera-branded rugged device, or do you know someone who uses one?

Just as we published the Meizu MX5 concept render that surfaced, we get an actual specification leak regarding the device itself. It seems a bit early for such news to start showing up considering the phone will most likely launch in September, or at least Q4 2015. This isn’t the first whisper we’ve heard regarding this device though, back in December a rumor surfaced very similar to this one actually. Anyhow, let’s check out this new rumor and see what it has to say, shall we.
According to this leak from China, the Meizu MX5 will feature a 5.5-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display, while a fingerprint scanner will also be a part of the package. It is still unknown if this scanner will be located on the front or the back of the device though, Meizu might opt to stick with their circle capacitive button on the front, which would mean the fingerprint scanner will be implemented on the back of the device (similar to Huawei Ascend Mate 7’s sensor). It is also said that the device will be powered by MediaTek’s chip, just like its predecessor, the rumor doesn’t say which model though. 4GB of RAM is also mentioned here, and the most interesting part of all this, is the 41-megapixel camera that is mentioned. We’ve already seen this sensor mentioned back in December, and this new rumor brings forth the very same info. This is allegedly the Nokia’s PureView sensor, though that seems a bit far-fetched at the moment, but who knows.
Meizu really did a great job last year, and the company will definitely grow in 2015. They have all sorts of plans ahead of them, and Alibaba’s recent $500 million investment will surely help the company achieve many of its plans. Meizu is expected to release the Ubuntu-powered smartphone at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona next month, and who knows what will they unveil after that. The Meizu MX5 quite probably won’t launch before September though, so don’t hold your breath for that, we’ll see many more rumors and leaks surface before the company unveils their new flagship.

We wanted to remind everyone that beginning tomorrow, February 23, 2015, Google will cut the power to Google Talk forever. Not many users are still using the old tried and true messenger application. Tomorrow marks the final transition by turning off the service for PC users for good. Google is putting all its eggs in the Google Hangouts basket. Google Talk got its start back in August of 2005. It was plain and simple and it just worked. That reason alone is why some PC users have clung to the Google Talk application. For some, Hangouts has been a bit of an issue and experiencing several minor issues that can make the service a headache. Google has made huge efforts to improve Hangouts and will have more features still to come.
Google Hangouts has many features that were lacking in Google Talk. It has evolved into a communications platform that suits most of the needs by today’s users. The Android application can handle your text, video chat, multi-video chat with several users at once, and is cross platform so you can stay connected no matter what device you are on. With Google Talk closing down for good, Google can now focus on one communication software and we hope make better and more powerful features.
However, if you still want to hold on to Google Talk for just a little while longer, there is a bit of hope. According to Mayur Kamat, Google’s Product Manager for Google Voice and Google Hangouts (Source Link below), you can still use certain third-party applications which will allow you to continue to use Google Talk. He also reminds users that these third-party applications are not part of Google, so users should take caution when using their password for these third-party applications. He also urged users to make the switch to the official Google Hangouts Chrome application or to utilize Google Hangouts from their Gmail page on the web.
All good things must come to an end. Google Talk, while lacking in some features, worked well for most users. But as it evolved into Google Hangouts, the need to have two applications for communication became unnecessary. Google has placed everything into Google Hangouts to handle all of its communications services. Google Hangouts is cross platform and has many great and useful features to keep you and your friends, co-workers, and family connected. While Google Talk was great, it is time to say goodbye.
