Remember the LG flip phone that leaked early last week? That device, the Ice Cream Smart, is indeed real and the company announced it. The Ice Cream Smart is the successor to 2008′s Ice Cream that did not ship with Android. Yes, the Ice Cream Smart has a full version of Android and 4.4.4 KitKat to be exact. The 3.5-inch display has 320×480 resolution. Inside, LG opted for a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage with an microSD card slot, and a 1700mAh battery. The rear camera is 8MP and the front-facing one is VGA.
Expect the LG Ice Cream Smart to stay in Korea or a just a few other markets. It is highly unlikely that the device arrives in the United States. The retail price converts to around $277.

Chances are you have played Cut the Rope or at least have seen someone with the game. It is one of the games from Zeptolab. The developer has a history with the puzzle genre, but the next game to leave the studio will a departure from that. The upcoming game is King of Thieves and it brings together tower defense, platformer, and multiplayer elements. Not many details are disclosed, if any, but the trailer makes it clear that the design/graphics match that of Cut the Rope.

WARNING: NSFW content ahead. Those easily offended, turn back now or watch this video about bunnies instead
When they announced the Samsung Gear VR last summer, we’re gonna go out on a limb and say pornography was probably the last thing Samsung guessed people would be using their virtual reality headset for (fun fact: porn is essentially illegal in South Korea). But if history has taught us anything, give any new technology enough time and someone will eventually throw some good ‘ol porn on it. Even Google Glass. Back in 2010, Steve Jobs said that if you’re looking for porn, Android is the best place for you and your insatiable desires. Maybe he wasn’t completely off base.
Arguments have been made that for new content platform to succeed, it’s gotta have the adult entertainment industry behind it (some have attributed the success of the VCR to this). While we’ll save that debate for a later time, we suppose the 3D world of virtual reality was only the next logical place for porn to find its way to, especially given the popularity of what the kids call point-of-view, or “POV porn.”
In his Samsung Gear VR review, our own Kevin Krause admitted that while gaming was pretty neat bonus when it came to virtual reality content, it’s the full 360-degree movies that really created that really created that “WOW” moment. We think Samsung felt the same way, launching their own Samsung Milk VR app for the headset that keeps the (G-rated) virtual reality videos flowing, and the headset strapped to its user.
While not as readily available as regular 2D porn, some adult production companies have wasted no time in delivering up a piping hot plate of XXX VR content for the few headset owners out there (the Gear VR only became available for sale last month and only officially supports the Galaxy Note 4).
Pioneering this brave new world is a group of ready and willing Complex Media employees who’s firsthand experiences were filmed and recently uploaded to YouTube for all to see. While most find the experience jarring or “uncomfortable” (possibly as a result of avoiding sounding like a pervert in front of coworkers), the women enthusiastically recommended it, one saying it would “change the game” and feared it would “eliminate the need for human interaction altogether.” Sounds… intense.
The video is actually quite hilarious and pushes the boundaries of what YouTube will allow on their site. Needless to say it is very NSFW but probably no more than your favorite R-rated movie (most of the nudity and such has been censored). That being said, proceed at your own risk.
Law enforcement in the United States has expressed concern regarding the safety of police officers and users of Waze. The app, which was acquired by Google in 2013, allows users to report the location of accidents, construction, and police officers. Law enforcement is concerned with the latter of the three because of the opportunity Waze provides for users to closely watch police officers. Essentially, the problem is that Wazer users can stalk and act against them.
There has yet to be any proof of a crime against police officers connected to Waze. Only speculation has fueled one recent instance. The shooting of two New York City police officers on December 20 has been connected to Waze by Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Black. The perpetrator allegedly had screenshots of police officers’ locations from Waze; however, the phone was disposed away from the crime scene.

As much as we love smart watches around here, there is one area they need drastic improvement: battery life. The standard of good battery life is 1.5 to 2 days, but ASUS thinks that isn’t good enough and they want to change it with their next attempt.
ASUS chairman Jonney Shih spoke to Taipei Times about the subject, and noted that — as a companion device — decisions on software and processing power should be taken just as strongly as those decisions would be for a smartphone. He specifically mentioned the need for efficient chipsets and simplified software to try and reach a target battery life of 7 days instead of the two days they’re current ZenWatch is rated for.
Does that mean the ZenWatch sequel is going to have 7 hours of battery life? That’d be a huge accomplishment, though it’s tough to say if they can pull that off. Regardless, we’re glad they’re looking at everything they can to improve one of the most important aspects of a smart watch, and even the slightest improvement over today’s standards is much welcomed.
Samsung’s latest idea might not be enough to change the world or even change their falling fortunes as of late, but it is pretty damn cool. The South Korean company was awarded a patent that describes a pair of sunglasses doused in transparent displays.
According to the patent, the transparent display can wrap around the entirety of the frame and lens elements to allow the user to change how the glasses look by changing settings on a smartphone. The frame, for instance, can have its color or pattern changed, while the lenses could have brightness adjustment settings to make them appear tinted.
This obviously isn’t meant to equip a user with “smart glasses” features like Google Glass or the virtual reality experience provided by something like the Samsung Gear VR, but it’s a neat idea that — if executed well — could be a nice feature marketed toward purchasers of Samsung’s devices in the future.
Unfortunately, though, an idea is all it is, and getting a working product to market is an entirely different story. We wouldn’t mind seeing these offered up for the crowd who likes to change their glasses as much as they change outfits, but it’s probably a long shot to expect to see anything like this anytime soon. Let us know if you’d be down to try these out should Samsung’s engineers achieve their vision (no pun intended).
Last week we saw a number of rumors about Google’s new Wireless network. Which we’ve actually been hearing about for years. Last week we heard that Google was working with T-Mobile and Sprint to resell their network. Basically a MVNO which is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator. Think of Straight Talk, or Boost Mobile, they run on one of the big four networks (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint or Verizon) and are basically reselling the network. We heard last week that Google struck a deal with Sprint, but no word on T-Mobile just yet, but that will likely come in the very near future.
Today, we’re hearing that Google’s MVNO could launch in the first half of 2015. Which means before the end of June. So it’s likely we’d hear something at Google I/O this year about it. We are also hearing that smartphones on Google’s MVNO will be able to swap between T-Mobile, Sprint and WiFi signals to make calls, send texts, etc. Which is about what we expected. Basically Google is bringing both of these networks together, along with WiFi. So essentially, Google is doing what the FCC wouldn’t let Softbank do. Kinda ironic, right?
Obviously none of this is confirmed. But there are certain rumors that come from certain places that are just about confirmed. And The Wall Street Journal is one of those, which is where this rumor came from. So it’s very likely that we’ll see this Google Wireless this year. How awesome will it be? That we don’t know yet. It’ll be really interesting to see how Verizon and AT&T react if they aren’t involved with it. So far it sounds like we won’t be seeing Verizon and AT&T involved in this Google MVNO though, which kinda sucks.
How many of you are excited about this Google MVNO talk? Let us know in the comments down below.

Right now, eBay Daily Deals has some pretty good deals on the HTC One M8. Now while HTC is expected to announce the successor to the HTC One M8 next month in Barcelona (well really March 1st), the M8 is still a really fantastic smartphone. And one that I’d still recommend people to buy, if they are looking for a cheap’ish smartphone. Right now the Verizon HTC One M8 is going for just $325 on eBay and the GSM Unlocked is going for $349. You can grab them from the links below.

Marriott has recently been in the tech news lately due to plans to block customers’ personal Wi-Fi hotspots when visiting one of the company’s properties. That move earned them a lot of negative press and pressure from the likes of the FCC and eventually caused them to reverse their course. Now it has been discovered that Marriott’s app for Android may have exposed customer data, including credit card information, to possible attack and pilfering ever since its launch in 2011. The flaw was discovered by Randy Westergren, a senior software developer with XDA-Developers, who also found a major hole in Verizon’s mobile app.
According to Westergren, the flaw involved the system the app would use to check for upcoming reservations. This was being completed without any authentication. Without that additional protection, Westergren could craft a request and switch in any membership ID number. The Marriott servers would then return the reservation information for that customer, including name, reservation number and some details about the reservation. That data was sufficient to then login to the Marriott web site where an attacker could obtain even more detailed information like addresses, contact information and the last four digits of credit cards.
Even worse, Westergren figured out that Marriott would not detect and stop scripts that were feeding potential IDs against the server, so an attacker could just start with any arbitrary number and collect the data from positive hits.
According to Westergren, he reported his findings to Marriott’s security team and the following day the vulnerability had been patched. It is not clear whether the vulnerability existed on other platforms. Marriott launched the app on Android, iOS and Blackberry in 2011. Marriott has not issued a statement regarding the vulnerability.

With all of the talk recently about the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S 6 and Samsung’s apparent decision to drop the Snapdragon 810 processor for their own Exynos chip, you may be wondering what kind of performance Samsung will be able to deliver with their new device. A new listing that surfaced today on Geekbench may help answer that question. A new entry for an “SC7 Full Android on avl7420″ appears to be a listing for a device running an Exynos 7420 chip, a new entry from Samsung Exynos 7 line of chips that was announced last year.
According to the entry, the chip that was tested was running at 1.5 GHz with 8 cores. On the multi-core test, the Geekbench score landed at 5478. For comparison, the current generation Exynos 5433 processor will produce a score of around 4000 in testing at 1.3 GHz. On the single-core test, the 7420 produced a score of 1520 which compares favorable to the NVIDIA Tegra K1 used in the Nexus 9 which runs at 2.5 GHz to produce a score of 1895.
The posted Geekbench results also reveal the tested device, believed to be the Galaxy S 6, is running Android 5.0 Lollipop and is equipped with 3GB of RAM.

My first experience of a Californian police officer involved some wheelspin, some blue lights and sirens wailing and subsequently he pointed his sidearm in my direction whilst inviting me to get onto the ground. I was used to getting out of the car as you do in the United Kingdom. Luckily, he recognized that I had a funny accent and indeed found the section in my passport where the Queen demanding people bow to her subjects quite amusing. And now, US police forces are getting hot under the collar because of Waze, an interesting blend of a navigation system and a social network. You see, Waze allows drivers to report that there’s a local police presence, something that the US police forces do not agree with.
Waze was bought by Google for a little under $1 billion in 2013. It has fifty million users across two hundred countries and produces real time traffic guidance and warnings about nearby congestion, car accidents, speed traps, roadworks (construction zones) or unsafe weather conditions. However, in California, sheriffs are pressurizing Google to disable this feature as it could put lives in danger, citing how in December a man shot at two New York Police Department officers having posted a screenshot from Waze showing a threatening image right before the ambush. It’s not believed that the man used Waze to assist with the ambush but police forces are concerned that this is only a matter of time. A spokeswoman from Waze highlighted that the company works with the NYPD, plus others around the world, and that Waze was designed to keep citizens safe and promote a faster emergency response.
Waze users mark police presence on maps without much distinction other than “visible” or “hidden.” Users simply see a police icon, but it’s difficult to tell if this is a speed trap or donut break. And as a means of sharing information between individuals, Waze is simply an easier way to share compared with other social networks; it would be difficult to distinguish this information compared to Facebook, Google+ or Twitter. Do you use Waze? Have you see any police cars reported on the map? Have you used this information, or felt that it could be useful? Let us know in the comments below and meanwhile we’ll keep you in the loop with any developments.

Last week we caught wind that the Nexus Player would find its way to more retailers. Newegg and Walmart were the earliest sightings of the thing outside of Google Play and they have since gone on sale.
Best Buy has also thrown its hat into the fray, and with a nice bonus: you can buy the Nexus Player on their website and opt for in-store pickup if they have any in stock. This is a great alternative to waiting for shipment and, in the case of RMAs, having to deal with shipping the unit off to a facility for a lengthy repair process (let’s just hope you’ll never have to worry about that in the lifespan of your Nexus Player).
You can order the base unit right here for $99.99, while the optional gaming controller can be added for just $39.99 more.
We’re starting to get close to Mobile World Congress 2015, which takes place in Barcelona this year from March 2nd to the 5th. Sony is one of the many smartphone makers that will be there. We’ve already got events announced for Samsung, Huawei, HTC and others. We know Sony is going to be there and likely do a press conference. But we’re hearing from Xperia Blog today that Sony is not announcing a new flagship this year at MWC 2015. So could it be that Sony finally listened to us? And are not launching a new phone every 6 months? One can only hope.
However, it is also important to remind everyone, that Sony has done this before. Before MWC 2014 and IFA 2014, they said there would be no flagship at those shows. And well we got the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3, respectively, at those shows. But on the other hand, Sony’s new flagship which we anticipate to be the Xperia Z4, has not leaked at all really. Which is actually really surprising for Sony. Usually their products leak out almost entirely, before they announce them. In fact, they put up posters and flyers around their headquarters saying not to do benchmarks, etc, on test devices so they don’t leak out, and that flyer leaked out. So perhaps after that Sony Pictures hack, they doubled down on everything.
Either way, I’m sure Sony has something for us, whether it be a new Xperia Z4, or some mid-range smartphones. They always have something for us at these shows. But what could it be? Maybe a new Xperia Z Ultra? Or maybe a new tablet? We’ll have to wait until the beginning of March to find out. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m definitely excited to see what Sony has up their sleeves this time around.

We see highlights from the NBA and various other sports on YouTube from their official channels. But we haven’t seen it for the NFL. Until now. Today, Google and the NFL announced that they are bringing official game highlights to YouTube with their official YouTube channel. NFL Game highlights will not only appear on YouTube but also in Google search results. So say you search for Tom Brady deflating the ball, it’ll pop up in Google Search as well as in YouTube.
This report comes out of Re/Code this morning, and as stated in their report:
“Starting this week, official NFL highlight clips will show up in Google’s YouTube, as well as in Google search results themselves. Google will also provide detailed information about games and scores — including kickoff times as well as the networks that are airing the games — via its “OneBox” results format, which it uses to show off extended answers to search queries instead of simple links.”
Additionally, the NFL and Google will be sharing ad revenue on content on YouTube. Google will also actively promote the league on YouTube and elsewhere. With the Super Bowl coming up this coming Sunday, it’s a good time for the NFL to do this. You’ll be able to watch in-game clips from the game this Sunday, February 1st for the Super Bowl. But the NFL still wants you to tune in live, for obvious reasons.
It’s great to finally see official NFL content coming to YouTube, instead of just content from their networks like ESPN, NBC, Fox and CBS. Now if we could get Google to get with the NFL for a streaming subscription for say $10/month, that’d be even better. Or just roll it in with Google Play Music All Access, that’d work too. How many of you are excited about this deal?

Nexus 6 owners who lust after a fingerprint scanner will be peeved to hear this news. According to ex-Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside, Motorola had been planning to use fingerprint scanners in many of their high-end smartphones going forward, including the Nexus 6.
Woodside revealed to Telegraph that following Motorola’s launch of the Atrix 4G back in 2011 (the first Android phone with a built-in fingerprint scanner), Apple acquired Authentec, the company Motorola was working with. Authentec wasn’t the only company making fingerprint scanners, but they were the best and Motorola wasn’t willing to settle for anything less. Woodside on the Nexus 6:
The secret behind that is that it was supposed to be fingerprint recognition, and Apple bought the best supplier. So the second best supplier was the only one available to everyone else in the industry and they weren’t there yet.
And there you have it, folks — the Nexus 6 was supposed to have a fingerprint scanner, but Apple’s antics ruined it all.
Even more interesting about the whole ordeal, though, is Motorola’s decision to shun the inferior technology, and if the Samsung Galaxy S5’s shoddy fingerprint scanner is anything to go by they absolutely made the right choice (even Samsung would likely agree). Let’s hope Motorola can get their hands on whatever Huawei was able to cook up for the next go-round.
I love the "Moto dimple" on the back of the Nexus 6. It makes the enormous phone just a little bit easier to grip (especially if you have a case with an iPhone-style logo cutout, like this one). But apparently the original purpose of the circular depression wasn't ergonomics, or even to match the branding on other Motorola devices like the Moto X. According to Dennis Woodside, former CEO of Motorola and currently the COO at Dropbox, the dimple was intended to be a fingerprint scanner.
Former Moto CEO Says The Nexus 6 Was Supposed To Have A Fingerprint Scanner On The Back was written by the awesome team at Android Police.
