US Cellular Expects the Moto G (3rd Gen) to Retail for $179

The new Moto G (3rd gen) is no secret at this point. We’ve seen renders, mentions on Motorola’s site of Moto Maker options, promo videos, and hands-on time with the phone all within the last week. There are still some questions, though, one of which involves price. How low will Motorola go with the new Moto G? Will they stick close to the 2nd generation’s $179 price point? According to a source of ours, that’s exactly where Motorola plans to land.

US Cellular is loading up the new Moto G in its internal systems under SKU 186978 and with a price of $179.99. That is without a contract of course, since the draw to the Moto G is its decent specs and bargain bin price.

If the price sticks and Motorola includes 4G LTE this time around, we are talking about a heck of a deal. I mention the 4G LTE because the 2nd gen never did get LTE and was instead a 3G-only phone priced at $179.

$179 sound like a good price to you?

AT&T and DirecTV Officially Merge

The FCC gave AT&T and DirecTV the thumbs up to merge today. The deal, which had been under review since May of last year, makes them the biggest pay-TV company in the US by pushing them ahead of Comcast with more than 26 million customers.

What does this mean for AT&T’s wireless customers? Not much. This is really all about creating a massive TV company, since the wireless side of things is slowly maturing. I guess AT&T could offer up bundles of wireless service and DirecTV, but this move doesn’t exactly mean your plans or pricing will change in any meaningful way.

Happy Friday.

Deal: ZeroLemon 20,000mAh SolarJuice Battery Pack is Back and Just $49

One of the better DL deals we have featured over the past few months has been the ZeroLemon 20,000mAh SolarJuice battery pack because of its massive capacity, but also because it’s durable, can charge two devices at a time, and can re-charge using the damn sun. The sun!

To head into the weekend, we thought would share the fact that it’s back and at its $49 price. That’s a pretty solid deal on a battery pack that could charge your phone over and over and over again.

As a recap, the ZeroLemon SolarJuice charges through a typical wall outlet or via a powerful 1.2W monocrystalline solar panel. It has dual outputs for charging two devices at a time, is quite compact for a 20,000mAh battery pack, should have a 1,000+ recharge life, and outputs at 2.1 and 1A.

The Chromecast is turning two! Crazy to think that Google’s little dongle (mind out of the gutter) has been around for two years already. I can’t really think of another gadget in recent memory that has made such a difference at such an affordable price. $35 out of your pocket and you have the ultimate streaming machine.

Anyways, to celebrate the birthday, Google is giving away a free movie rental.

Details on this free rental offer and how you can redeem it can be found here. The movie selection can be found here.

LG to Introduce “Super Premium” Phone Later This Year as G4 Sales Disappoint

LG’s G4, which we happen to be pretty big fans of here at Droid Life, hasn’t exactly been the smashing success that LG had hoped, according to Korean news outlet ETnews. Because of its lackluster sales, the company is currently trying to figure out a time to launch a new “super premium” smartphone before the year ends.

In recent years, LG has given us a flagship in Q2, then related models to that flagship to fill up the next 12 months. But because of mounting pressure in the smartphone industry and because Samsung and Apple are still kings with major phones in the pipeline, LG is going to introduce another flagship this year. We aren’t sure what “super premium” means in comparison to the LG G4 (which must be just “premium”), but I would imagine that LG will bring something with higher end materials. The G4 already packs incredible specs, so the next logical step is to up the design and turn to metals, like everyone else has done.

LG G4 owners, feeling like you just got punched in the gut? Or are we all excited to see what LG can do in this “super premium” category?

YouTube Gets a Redesign on Android, New Video Creation Tools

Notice anything different about your YouTube app this week? You should have received an update to YouTube within the last day that introduced a new 3-tabbed design to make it “easier than ever to find videos you love.”

The new app ditches the slideout navigation menu for three tabs or columns of Home, Subscriptions, and Account. Those names are pretty self explanatory, but the basics are you get to explore and discover videos with recommendations on your Home, find the latest from your subscriptions on the Subscriptions page, and check out your own account or upload new videos in the Account page.

Google also tossed in new creation tools for trimming footage, tinting images, adding music, etc.

The app is slick, fast, and easy to navigate, it’s just surprising to see Google continue to change up its design language. Is this the beginning of the end for the slideout drawer? Obviously, that all depends on the application.
