Moto X Pure Edition Available at Best Buy Stores

Sick of reading about the Moto X Pure Edition and would rather get your hands on one? You can now do just that at Best Buy stores. This evening, Best Buy’s website flipped the switch on black, white, and bamboo models of 16GB or 32GB with in-store pick-up. We have also heard that Best Buy stores have the phone on display for some physical rubbing from you.

Before you cruise in, you should hit up the link below and check your nearest stores for availability. I live in Oregon and wasn’t able to find any nearby stores with the phone, but Washington sure seems to have plenty of stores with stock.

Motorola told us that mid-September would be the time that the Moto X Pure would arrive in stores and it looks like they were spot on.

Of course, if you can’t get into a store or they don’t have stock, you can always watch our unboxing again and see how the MXPE compares to the other Moto X models and the Nexus 6.

Moto X Pure Edition Owners, Share Your Early Thoughts!

Yesterday, I spent a good couple of hours answering your questions about the new Moto X Pure Edition. I noticed something pretty cool during that Q&A session, though, and that was the other opinions being shared to some of the questions by other owners of the phone. A fair number of you already own the phone and are a great resource for those still considering Motorola’s new Moto X, so we want to see if we can’t tap into that.

In this post, to end our Wednesday, we thought we would reach out to current owners and have you share your initial impressions after owning the phone for the past few days. How is the camera? Thoughts on the size? How would you compare the MXPE to the phone you came from? Why did you ultimately decide to pick one up? What’s battery life like? Do you wish Motorola had stayed with AMOLED instead of LCD? Favorite feature? Lousiest feature? Would you recommend?

If you have anything to share, we would love to have it in the comments.

Video: Moto X Pure vs. Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen) vs. Nexus 6

Within the last week, you guys have made it clear to us that you want to know how the new Moto X Pure Edition (our unboxing) compares to the Moto X (1st gen), Moto X (2nd gen), and Nexus 6. I think it’s safe to say that many of you are in the Moto X family of phones and are considering staying there. And rightfully so, the Moto X line has been one of the best in recent years.

So, with that in mind, we put together this video, which shows you the new Moto X Pure versus the 1st and 2nd gen Moto X and the Nexus 6. This isn’t a performance battle or camera showdown, since those types of tests don’t work well on camera. Instead, this focuses on what most of you seem to be worried about – how does the size differ from one phone to the next. It also dives into a recap of specs from one year to the other.

You asked for it – here is the Moto X Pure vs. Motorola’s last handful of flagship phones.

Video: Huawei Watch Unboxing and Hands-on

The Huawei Watch has arrived, so now it’s time to begin the full review process. First up, of course, is an unboxing video! Before we get right into the video, let’s do a little bit of background on the device itself.

The Huawei Watch features a 1.4″ full-circle AMOLED display, Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.1, and a 300mAh battery. Do note, there is no NFC connectivity for the smartwatch, so that may be a downer for a few potential buyers.

With the watch in-hand, and even seeing the packaging, there is no doubt Huawei set out to create the most premium Android Wear smartwatch they could. We received the Stainless Steel with Black Leather band base model ($349), but other models, such as the all Rose Gold model, will feature a price tag of $799, making it one of most expensive Android Wear devices to hit the market.

There will be plenty of time to talk more about the device in our full review, which will be coming soon after we spend a few days with it.

Apple’s First Android App, Move to iOS, Hits Google Play

Been in the Android game for a bit, but have decided your life would be better being controlled by someone else in a walled garden of tech hell where no one cares what you think because Apple? Apple will help you realize that life through their Move to iOS app that just landed on Google Play.

In Move to iOS, you get to easily take your contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, bookmarks, mail accounts, and calendars with you to an iPhone or iPad because “everything about iOS is designed to be easy.” Well, outside of 3D Touch and dealing with 1,856 settings for each app and Apple Music and interacting in any way with notifications and that keyboard, ugh that iOS keyboard…I guess I’ll stop there.

The app transfers everything over to your new iOS device via private WiFi network. Secure!

Move to iOS is available to all Android devices running Android 4.0+.

Side Note:  Read the early reviews on the app – super lulz.

Minecraft: Story Mode Hits Google Play on October 15

Telltale Games, in partnership with Mojang, is set to launch Minecraft: Story Mode for Android on October 15.  The game will be released to Google Play as the first chapter, with additional chapters to follow. This follows previous deployment strategies of Telltale, like we saw with The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Tales From the Borderlands.

To start the game, you choose whether to be a male or female named Jesse, then basically travel around the blocky world protecting it from baddies hailing from the Nether. From the game’s description, “You’ll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon.”

Telltale states that they have worked closely with Mojang to maintain a sense of customization for players, allowing them to choose from different looks for the playable characters. While the world itself is likely not able to be changed, Telltale wants this to feel like an actual Minecraft universe.

Once the game is officially available on Google Play, we will let you know.

This Could be the New Nexus 5 in White or Mint, or Maybe It’s Nothing at All

According to Korean site underKG, the pictures below are of the new Nexus 5, which people keep oddly referring to as the Nexus 5X, but will probably just be called Nexus 5 (2015). Whatever. It’s a name. And these are supposed pictures of it.

The pictures are said to feature the front and back of the phone, yet reveal almost nothing about it. The back is “mint” according to sources, though, it just looks white to me. Hey, mint is cool, I guess. The back is also conveniently covered at all of the spots that would reveal actual information about the phone, of course (camera, fingerprint sensor, etc.).  The front, well, is a black slab with no markings and a giant chin bezel. Oh, the top left also appears to be a front camera or flash.

Sources of underKG are suggesting that this phone will arrive at a still-yet-to-be-confirmed September 29 event in San Francisco, where Google is thought to unveil two new Nexus phones.

And that’s it!

Here is a recreation with the original Nexus 5, because why not.

The phone above of the real Nexus 5 is obviously different that the pictures of the “mint” Nexus 5X, so who knows if it’s real or not.

AT&T Ups Throttling Limit on Unlimited Data Users to 22GB

AT&T made a change to its unlimited data throttling policy this morning that ups the limit its legacy unlimited data users can hit before they will enforce slower data speeds. Previously, the limit was around the 5GB mark, but now unlimited data users are looking at a cool 22GB before their speeds are slowed when in congested areas.

This change could have something to do with $100 million fine that the FCC slapped on AT&T for throttling its unlimited data customers or maybe they just really wanted to do something semi-nice for once. I don’t know, but the change doesn’t appear to be a bad one.

According to the new policy, unlimited data plan customers can now use 22GB of high speed data during a billing period “before becoming subject to network management practices that might result in reduced data speeds and increased latency.” See, a jump from 5GB to 22GB seems like a winning scenario. You’ll notice the “might” in that statement, though.

So like was the case the last time AT&T changed this policy in May, the throttling appears to only be happening when customers hit that 22GB and are in a congested area of cell traffic. Once they leave a congested cell cite, even if they are above 22GB, their speeds should/could return to normal. Also, the throttling only happens through to the next billing cycle.

Going forward, AT&T will also begin notifying unlimited data users that they are approaching throttling territory once they reach 16.5GB.

Here is the revised statement (we italicized all of the new stuff):

Do you have an unlimited data plan? If so, we have information to help you manage your account.

To provide the best possible user experience for all of our customers, AT&T has established certain network management practices.

In line with common industry standards, our network management practices assure that our network resources are used for the benefit of all our mobile broadband customers especially during periods when network demand exceeds available network resources (also known as “congestion”).

As you would expect, these network management practices have continued to evolve over time to benefit our customers and take advantage of the billions we have spent to expand and augment our networks. As a result of this evolution, we recently revised our practices such that Unlimited Data Plan smartphone customers can now use 22GB of high-speed data during a billing period before becoming subject to network management practices that might result in reduced data speeds and increased latency.

As always, Unlimited Data Plan smartphone customers will still have the comfort of knowing that, no matter how much data they use in a billing cycle, they will continue to pay a single monthly flat rate. That is the essential promise of the Unlimited Data Plan, and we are pleased to continue honoring that promise. Further, speed reductions will occur only when the customer is using his or her device at times and in areas where there is network congestion and only for the remainder of the current billing cycle after the customer has exceeded the 22GB data usage threshold.

We will notify customers during each billing cycle when their data usage reaches 16.5GB (75% of 22GB) so they can adjust their usage to avoid network management practices that may result in slower data speeds.

Reduced speeds and increased latency may cause websites to load more slowly or affect the performance of data-heavy activities such as video streaming or interactive gaming. The degree of reduced speeds and increased latency will vary depending on the amount of congestion. Congestion can start and stop over a very short time period (often measured in fractions of a second), further minimizing customer impact.

Because the amount of congestion at a cell site can vary significantly, the performance impact for affected unlimited data plan customers may also vary significantly. Standard speeds and latency will resume once the cell cite is no longer congested, or the customer’s data session moves to an uncongested cell site. In addition, speeds and latency will return to normal at the start of the customer’s next billing cycle.

Customers on tiered data or Mobile Share plans are not subject to these network management practices. Likewise, when customers are using Wi-Fi, they are not subject to these network management practices. Wi-Fi usage does not count against the customer’s 22GB data usage threshold.

Managing your data usage is easy. Check your data usage anytime by dialing *data# from your smartphone.

So unlimited still doesn’t mean unlimited to AT&T, but 22GB is better than 5GB.

Cheers Santos!
