Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android Lollipop build leaked
While Android device manufacturers continue to push out official builds of Android 5.0 Lollipop for their newer devices, users with older devices continue to wait their turn. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can hasten the process if they are willing to flash their device to install the update manually after a copy leaked.
The particular Galaxy Note 3 model that the update was built for is the SM-N9005. The update is 1.1 GB in size and includes not only Android Lollipop, but a re-designed Touchwiz UI. XDA Recognized Contributer mithun46 has put together a guide for users interested in updating their device with the firmware. Users who attempt the update should note that the update will make their device incompatible with the Xposed Framework thanks to ART. The update process reportedly takes a lot longer than previous updates, so users should not panic while they wait.
Anyone out there planning to give the update a try on their device? If so, hit the source link for more tips and warnings.

Straight Talk to start activating Verizon LTE devices
If you happen to have a Verizon LTE device and want to get hooked up with a prepaid plan from Straight Talk, you are in luck as the carrier is starting to take SIM card orders for Verizon devices. The addition of Verizon LTE devices as an option for Straight Talk customers should not be too big a surprise since Straight Talk is a Verizon MVNO.
SIM cards for Verizon devices run only $6.99. Straight Talk will not be shipping the new SIM cards for at least a couple weeks while they wait for them to be delivered before they can ship them to their customers. Straight Talk’s primary plan for smartphones runs $45 per month and includes unlimited talk, text and 3 GB of data. Straight Talk does throttle data speeds once customers hit 3 GB of data, bringing the speed down to only 64 kbps.

Samsung high-end Galaxy Tab 5 and low-end tablet spotted
Thanks to the Zauba site tracking imports into India, including devices for testing purposes like in this case, new information has been gleaned about Samsung’s work on their tablet devices for 2015. The Zauba site listed a couple Samsung tablets entering the country on December 22nd and 23rd, the Samsung SM-T555 and the SM-T1116 respectively. The former is believed to be a 10-inch version of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 5 while the latter is thought to be a budget model tablet.
The clues for the SM-T555 primarily consists of comparing the model number with the model numbers for the current crop of Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 devices. The variants of the Galaxy Tab 4 all have model numbers using an SM-T53x pattern The new SM-T55x pattern is thought to be consistent with Samsung’s number convention that signals a successor model. The big question now is whether this new tablet will be a 10-inch tablet or whether Samsung is looking to go bigger like some other manufacturers in an effort to create a compelling sales case when compared to some of the larger smartphones on the market now.
Meanwhile, the SM-T1116 was listed on the Zauba web site with a value of about $101 USD, which would put it in a budget model price range. Sources believe this tablet will come equipped with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and Android 4.4.4 installed.
With CES 2015 right around the corner, we may get some more information soon about what Samsung’s strategy for the tablet market will be during 2015.

Amazon Prime adds new members during record-breaking holiday season
Amazon reported results for their holiday shopping season and the company seems to be quite happy with the results. Amazon’s membership program, Amazon Prime, added 10 million new members during the holiday season. Some estimates put the total number of Prime members at close to 60 million, which is a huge increase from the estimated 20 million Amazon had to start the year and comes even with the increase in price this past year.
In addition to the growth in Prime memberships, Amazon also shared some figures about their shoppers during the holiday season. Compared to last year, 10 times more orders were placed for Same-Day Delivery. Amazon also reported that nearly 60 percent of their customers used a mobile device and customers used those devices later into the shopping season than in prior years, possibly indicating how confident and comfortable consumers are becoming at buying using their mobile devices. Amazon’s app for smartphones recorded twice as many sales as the prior year. Amazon also reported Cyber Monday was their biggest sales day again, although Black Friday saw the biggest growth compared to the prior year for mobile shoppers.
As far as what was purchased, Amazon reported their top selling tablets were from their line of Fire tablets. Some other top-sellers included their own Amazon Fire TV streaming media box, Samsung and LG televisions, and GoPro cameras. Also of note was a trio of Chromebooks – the Acer C720, a 13-inch ASUS Chromebook, and the HP 11-2010nr – that dominated the computer category.

CyanogenMod 12 (CM12) Might Be Delayed For Older Devices Due To Issues With PIE Feature
Cyanogen have been in the news a lot over the last couple of months. This is a partly because of their now turbulent relationship with Chinese startup, OnePlus. The two started their relationship some time ago with the launch of the OnePlus One, which came with killer hardware and the commercial version of CyanogenOS running as the main operating system. Since then, the relationship has reportedly become quite strained. That said, CyanogenOS is only half of the Cyanogen story. As well as their increasingly growing commercial version, the developers still highly support their more community-based open-source operating system, CyanogenMod. In contrast to CyanogenOS which is only available for a limited number of devices, CyanogenMod is available to a much larger number of devices. This is due to the number of unofficial (as well as official) variants on offer.
As such, the upcoming new version of CyanogenMod which is dubbed CM12, is quite highly awaited. This is because CM12 is essentially CyanogenMod’s take on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). The new android OS, Lollipop, is big business everywhere and when you throw CyanogenMod into the mix, you end up with a highly awaited operating system. Up until now, the progress of CM12 has been moving along nicely. There are already a number of nightlie (experimental) versions of CM12 available to download and it is expected stable versions will be available soon enough. That said, the latest news emerging about CM12 is that it might not be as widely available as we first thought.
According to a discussion thread (source link below) on the CM12 code review site, it seems there is some issues with implementing CM12 on older devices. Part of the reason being given is that the PIE feature is affecting the running of CM12. It is thought that the security features underlying CM12 and the PIE feature are conflicting and especially on older Samsung devices. It seems the Samsung Galaxy S2 was specifically name-dropped. If this problem is not fixed in the short term then it could mean many older devices might see a significant delay in when CM12 will be available to them. It is even possible that it might not become available at all. Although, at the moment, it is rather early to assume this. Either way though, the recent news suggests that CM12 on certain older devices might be significantly delayed. Do you own an older device? A Samsung Galaxy S2? What do you think of the latest news about PIE on CM12 possible slowing down a CM12 roll out for your device? Let us know.

Featured Review: Verus Super Slim Hard Case for the Nexus 6
We haven’t had much time with Nexus 6 cases, but Verus did send us over a few of their offerings for the Google Nexus 6. So it’s time to review them. Today, we’re taking a look at the Verus Super Slim Hard Case. We have both the Pearl White and Charcoal Black colors. And since they are both the same case, aside from the colors, we’re combining them into one review. So in the gallery down below you’ll see both colors on our white Nexus 6.
The Super Slim Hard Case for the Nexus 6 mostly covers the back and the sides of the Nexus 6. It does cover part of the top, but not the entire top. Which you can see in the images in the gallery down below. It does cover up the Nexus logo, but leaves the Motorola dimple alone. Which is kinda nice, as I really do like that dimple. There are cut outs for the headphone jack, volume rocker, power button, micro USB port, and a microphone hole on the back towards the bottom. I really like the black on white though, it looks really nice.
So what’s the point of this case? Well it will protect your Nexus 6, albeit not as well as an Otterbox or another huge bulky case like that. But if you’re careful with your Nexus 6, then you should be fine with this one. I’ve been using the Charcoal Black Super Slim Hard Case for about a week now, and absolutely love it. I usually don’t even bother with cases, but there are a select few that I really like and the Verus Super Slim Hard Case is one of those.
The Verus Super Slim Hard Case is available on Amazon now for just $8.99 for both the charcoal black and pearl white colors. They also have their famous Thor cases available for $16.99. There’s also the Dandy Klop Case which they’ve sent us and we’ll be taking a look at shortly as well. So stay tuned for that. How many of you have already picked up a case for your Nexus 6? Let us know in the comments below.

Samsung SM-T555 Pops Up On Zauba, Has Galaxy Tab 5 10.1 Written All Over It
Samsung has a lot of stuff on their plate at the moment, not only are they battling poor sales and profit drops, but a change in leadership is going to occur soon as well due to the illness of Samsung’s chairman Kun Hee-Lee. The company has announced a while back that they’ll cut back on the amount of different device models they manufacture, but we keep on seeing a ton of Samsung smartphones and tablets leak all over the place. A couple of days ago Zauba and GFXBench listing showed off Samsung’s SM-T116 tablet model, which is most likely the upcoming Galaxy 4 Tab Lite. Well, another Samsung device appeared on Zauba.
The SM-T555 is another Samsung tablet listing which appeared on this Indian import / export website. The tablet was imported to India for $354, though this is not its retail price, of course. Let’s try to figure out which tablet is this, shall we. The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 was released back in May and here are the model numbers of that device: SM-T530 (Wi-Fi), SM-T531 (3G and Wi-Fi) and SM-T535 (3G, 4G and Wi-Fi). So this, T-555, model is quite probably the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1’s successor which will arrive in a couple of months (mid-year) I presume. Android 5.0 Lollipop and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 will quite probably be a part of this package.
Galaxy Tab 5 10.1 is basically the only possible model here judging by the model numbers, so this will almost certainly be one of those mid-range tablet offerings by Samsung we’re going to see launched in 2015. It remains to be seen if Samsung will significantly tweak the design of this tablet or will they only make slight alterations to it like they do each year. This device really doesn’t sound all that appealing, but we’ll see how high will Samsung price this thing, if they managed to bring the price significantly down (which won’t happen according to the import log) this might even be something to consider, but I really doubt that will happen. Anyhow, does anyone out there own the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 and what is your experience with that thing?

Galaxy Note 3 (N9005) Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Leaks
Android 5.0 Lollipop is already available on a bunch of non-Nexus devices, but there are still many more devices waiting to get updated to the newest version of Google’s operating system. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 phablet is one of those device, we’ve seen the beta ROM leak for the Exynos version of this handset and also a video showing off the preview of Samsung’s Lollipop update on top of TouchWiz. The update should officially land on the Note 3 rather soon considering the build of it has leaked and it is now available, read on if you’re interested.
The N9505XXUGBNL8 update comes in at 1.1GB and it brings Android 5.0 Lollipop along with Samsung’s re-designed TouchWiz on top of it. You’ll of course have to flash this thing on your device in case you want to try it out, so if you’re not familiar with the process or are unwilling to take the risk of doing it, we’d advise you to stay away from messing with it. That being said, you can flash this image using the newest version of Odin (3.09), though keep in mind that you’ll lose all data on your device, of course, so backup everything you want to keep before you proceed with this. You should also backup your PIT partition. Another thing to keep in mind is that the first boot process will take somewhat longer than you might expect, Android 5.0 Lollipop uses ART (Android Runtime) and it will take a some time to boot your device for the first time and set everything up. This update is for the Note SM-N9005 version of the device.
If you’re still interested and you’d like to go through with flashing, visit this link and follow the instructions carefully, mithun46 created a nice little tutorial which is rather straightforward, just make sure to follow all the steps and you should be fine, though there’s always a chance something could go wrong, it’s flashing after all. If you decide to flash this leaked ROM on your device let us know how you like it, we’d love to hear from you, as usual.
