Bad news came this week from Motorola’s Punit Soni. For all of you using Verizon Wireless looking to purchase the new Moto X as a Developer’s Edition, prepare to be disappointed. Either Big Red or Motorola has chosen to forego this partnership, leaving the Moto X Developer Model only available through GSM carriers. This is a huge blow to all developers and tinkerers looking to actually snag a good, open phone on VZW. Hopefully the few Droids coming out later this year will feature Developers’ Models, but we can’t be sure just yet.
What do you think about this saddening news? I know I’m sad that my future phone won’t be available to me. Leave a comment below to blow off some steam.

Google just sent an unannounced 7-in tablet through the FCC, meaning we should be seeing another small tablet hit being released shortly. The model name for the aforementioned device is NX74751, the NX being the primary reason to suspect it being the next Nexus 7. There has also been speculation that this tablet is the LG G Pad 7.0 GPE, due to the battery being manufactured by LG. However, since the brand name is listed as Google, there is reason to believe that it will be a Nexus device. Since the document contains no specs about the device besides having a plethora of GSM, WCDMA, and LTE bands and a 2480 mAh battery, we will just have to wait to see if this new tablet lives up its possible Nexus 7 heritage. Earlier this week, the following crane lift project notice was posted around the famous Android statue lawn next to building 44 on Google's Mountain View campus:
Of course, this sighting sparked a variety of rumors - after all, it would only be natural to assume that any work requiring a crane lift involved a new statue being installed, which would mean we'd finally find out the name of the L release.

Facebook’s Messenger App hasn’t exactly been the most accepted app lately after forcing users to download it if they wanted to continue to message on Facebook. Although to Facebook’s credit, they have fought back vigorously with the addition of Android Wear support for the app as well as providing a popup in the Facebook app that explains to people why they should not be worried about downloading and using the Messenger app. And now Facebook is pushing an update to their Messenger app that allows users to doodle and/or add text to their photos before sending them to their friends.
How you doodle and add text to your photos in Facebook Messenger is easy, all you have to do is tap the photo icon located in the bottom control row. You’ll then be taken to the photo reel where you can then slide left or right to find the photo you want to edit, then, simply select either the “Aa” button to add text to the photo or the pen icon which lets you draw on the photo. Think of all of the ways you can draw on pictures of your friends to make them look silly before sending them!
One thing that is important to note is that pictures taken within Facebook’s Messenger app using the “selfie cam” will not be editable using the features described above. If you have ever used the selfie cam then you know this is due to the photo immediately being sent after you take it. Hopefully this changes in the near future with the addition of these new features. Any other photos taken with your phone’s default camera app should show up in Facebook Messenger’s photo roll almost immediately. This is a nice little update to the Facebook Messenger app and we hope to see more like it that allow better image editing. There is currently still a decent amount of paranoia surrounding the app and hopefully these updates make people realize that its not such an evil app after all. If you would like to download the app or update it then click here to be taken directly to the Google Play Store.

Regular followers of the Android world know that manufacturers love to skin Google's mobile operating system for the sake of differentiation. As dramatic as Samsung and HTC can get, the Chinese OEMs sometimes take it even further, perhaps because Chinese users don't have official access to the Play Store and Google apps (making compatibility and certification less problematic). OPPO seems to be going even further than that: a new post on the company forum is recruiting testers for ColorOS on, of all things, the LG G2.

Root addicts and ROM flashers on Verizon, prepare to lose it. According to a short question and answer session with Motorola Mobility's VP of Product Management Punit Soni, there will be no Developer Edition of the swanky second-gen Moto X for Verizon. Google+ user Shane Barone asked Mr. Soni about the availability of a developer edition, and got this apologetic reply:
Developer Editions are special carrier editions of phones sold without a contract and with an unlockable bootloader, made available for customers on carriers that permanently lock bootloaders as a matter of course.
