LG is letting us in on a little secret, their new G Watch will be round. LG has released a teaser video showing off next to nothing of the actual watch, but the message is clear, we are in for a whole mess of rounded smartwatches during IFA in early September.
Some are calling LG‘s new smartwatch the G Watch 2, but may now get the title G Watch R, as speculated from the video. We’ve previously learned that it will attempt to increase battery life and viewing angles by trading out AMOLED for the original G Watch‘s LCD display. We’ve also not yet confirmed if LG will try to get their Odin SoC in the device, or just stick with the tried and true Snapdragon processor.
There is not much else to learn here. LG even opted to leave the description of the video blank. However, slowly looking through the screen flashes of the video, we see many different renderings of the new G Watch. Plenty of round watch face designs, plus a bunch of tiny widgets depicting calendars, fitness and navigation tracking and more.
Be sure to check out our previous coverage of the new LG G Watch to get all of the info we have so far. Which, sadly, is not much.
What is most interesting here is that LG is making great moves in the wearables market, possibly even in line to beat Motorola to market with a round faced smartwatch. If LG didn’t already have the G Watch 2 in development back in June, I am sure they noticed that Google I/O attendees were happy with receiving LG’s square smartwatch for free, but what the crowd really wanted was Motorola’s round faced Moto 360.
We now have a slew of round faced smartwatches headed our way, Moto 360 is due at IFA, ASUS and HTC are due soon, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that Apple is expected to launch a circular watch as well and now we can confirm that LG will launch a circle at IFA. These are exciting times for wearables, or at least for smartwatches.
We’ve asked you time and again if you’d rather the square Samsung or LG smartwatches over Motorola’s round watch offering, but now that there will be a handful of round watches to choose from, is Moto 360 still on your radar?

Push to talk has always been a very popular choice amongst businesses for remaining in contact with employees. The reason for that is the speed at which information can be shared between everyone. Verizon has teamed up with Kodiak Networks to bring Push to Talk to their customers, while also providing 4G LTE networks. Kodiak Networks is a company that provides Push to Talk technologies across every platform. Through apps, Kodiak has integrated Push to Talk into Android, Windows Mobile, iOS, BlackBerry, and more. The option allows for users who need both a smartphone with 4G LTE capabilities as well as Push to Talk capabilities to have both with ease. Now, through teaming up with Verizon, users can take advantage of the option known as Push to Talk Plus.
In a blog post on Verizon’s news site they state that the new PTTP system will allow companies to hold conference calls with upwards of 30 people at a time. This could be difficult with everyone speaking at once, but they will be using a Hangouts like feature called “Talking Priority” which “allows the initiator to override a group call and be the only speaker everyone hears.” Keeping the busy world of business in mind, Verizon and Kodiak also have a feature called “Late Join”.
Sometimes not all employees can be available at the same times. Since this is often very true, “Late Join” allows for some members of the conference call to join a bit late. Also, in case someone needs to leave, and return later, there is a feature called “Rejoin”. “Rejoin” does exactly what it sounds like, and allows people to leave the call, and come back when they can that way they aren’t missing out on too much of the conversation. Last but not least, Verizon is allowing for Push to Talk over WiFi as well. Currently, Verizon is only offering the service on a set number of devices, the Droid Maxx, Samsung Galaxy S5 and a few more. Verizon does plan to allow for more devices to take advantage of Push to Talk. The ease of adding the feature is just calling the B2B sales reps, and asking them to add the feature. The service will be free for the first six months, and then will cost $5/month after that.

We’ve reviewed just about every version of the C720 since it came out last fall. That includes the original C720 with Haswell, as well as the C720P which has a touch screen display. Now we’re looking at the more powerful C720. Which has an Intel Core i3 processor inside. Now most of the other Chromebooks have had Celeron processors, which are made for netbooks, while this is the first Chromebook we’ve used with a full on desktop style processor. It definitely brings plenty of power to the game. Which we’ll be talking about in this review.
Editor’s Note: We’ve been using the Acer C720 for about 2-3 weeks now, and our thoughts in this review will reflect on that time.
If you’ve used any of Acer’s recent Chromebooks, this C720 will make you feel right at home. It looks and acts, and even feels the same as the C710, and the C720 series. All the ports are in the same spot as well. Which means power, HDMI, USB, and 3.5mm headphone jack are all on the left side with the kensington lock, USB 2.0, and SD card slot on the right side. The only real difference here is the processor, well we also have 4GB of RAM, which some models of the C720 doesn’t have. We also know that this same Chromebook can be configured to only have 2GB of RAM (which is all that is sold in the UK, I’m told). This includes the same 1366×768 resolution display, which is adequate, but not exactly what we’d prefer. After using a retina Macbook Pro fro the past 4-5 months, I’m really missing the extra pixels.
It’s amazing. The performance is truly amazing. I’ve gone on record before saying that Chromebooks aren’t for me because they can’t handle everything I do in Chrome. For instance, I bought the first ARM-powered Samsung Chromebook, and had all kinds of performance issues, most notably was the lack of RAM. I also had this issue with the original C720, which had just 2GB of RAM. But pair an Intel Core i3 along with 4GB of RAM and it has me rethinking my stance on Chromebooks for my work flow.
I’ve actually been using this Chromebook (along with the Lenovo N20P) for the past few weeks as my main computer. And it’s worked out well. Obviously I had to find some alternatives for apps I use on my Macbook Pro – like Adobe Lightroom. But those are easy fixes, as there are already so many apps and extensions available for Chrome OS. What I’m trying to say is that if you love the idea of Chromebooks, but wanted something a bit more powerful, well it’s here.
I have to say it’s not quite as good as what I got on the Acer C720 and C720p, or even the Lenovo N20p Chromebook, but it is still plenty for most people. Without watching much local or streaming video, I was easily able to get 7+ hours of battery life out of this thing. Which I still think is plenty. Of course we’ll want more, but that’s more than what most PC’s can give you these days. Especially with Chrome being used.
There’s no need for us to go into much detail here, as Chrome OS doesn’t really change from Chromebook to Chromebook. So we’ll mostly just talk about how great it runs on an i3 processor. It flies. To put it plain and simple. Most of you probably know from other Chromebooks, that they already power on super fast, but this one has about a second or two decrease in start up time. Which most people wouldn’t notice. But where you will notice it is when you are using a ton of tabs and/or windows. But that’s more for RAM, as with 2GB of RAM, once you have a certain amount of tabs open, it’ll refresh those other tabs when you go to them. Which drove me crazy. The i3 definitely makes a difference, but it isn’t a huge difference.
To put it simply, the Acer C720 with an i3 inside is a beast. It may even be too much power for a Chromebook these days. I think I would have rather seen Acer add in a 1080p display along with it. But just giving it an i3 doesn’t really make me want this over the regular C720. Especially the fact that the original C720 can be configured with 4GB of RAM. As I’ve always said, if you want a Chromebook, please get one with at least 4GB of RAM. You’ll thank me later. As Chrome is a resource hog, even on Chrome OS.

After the final leak from evleaks hit the web the other day we have a somewhat closer understanding of the new Moto X, the Moto X+1, or whatever you want to call it. At least from the design point of view. We can see what Motorola wanted to do with the design and to some degree it was to keep things familiar but somewhat refined or perhaps even a little updated. For the most part though Motorola didn’t change much when it comes to looks. The new Moto X is a bit wider and a bit taller, but only slightly, just enough for the consumer to notice the differences. Minus the new camera of course, because damn the new lens is huge size wise, and there seems to be a reason for that, we’ll get to that in a bit.
Despite your feelings about the looks though where the new Moto X might begin to capture the attention of many skeptical consumers is perhaps in some of the new features. The original Moto X sold very well, it was a great handset, but it by no means captivated the whole of the smartphone world. Motorola may be attempting to try something a little bit different this time around with some new features. The latest rumor states that the new Motorola Moto X(Moto X+1)will house some sort of parallax 3D display technology with the touchless controls, which as we all know has had its hurdles in the past, but perhaps Motorola has something amazing planned on how to use it.
When we previously reported about the leak the day it showed up on the web, we pointed out that we were generally curious about what the new sensors on the bottom of the display could be. They resided in a similar spot to the Fire Phone, just inside the bezel so we immediately thought they could be sensors not too unlike the ones on Amazon’s device, but without jumping to conclusions we merely asked the question of what they could possibly be. If the rumors from HellomotoHK today are correct, than we were right in our theory and we couldn’t be any more curious to see how Motorola plans to utilize the technology and implement features to go along with it. Now let’s talk about that huge looking camera lens on the back. Motorola is also rumored to be including a(potentially 3x)optical zoom within the device for a more advanced picture taking experience, something they have never done before. There are other OEM’s thta have done this already, with higher zoom capabilities at that, however Motorola may have been able to pull this off while still keeping the phone relatively thin. We know that Motorola is scheduled to have an event on September 4th during IFA, and they’re expected to unveil the new Moto X, the new Moto G, the Moto 360 smartwatch and a new Bluetooth headset it seems, thanks to their teaser from about a week or two ago. With little time left(just over a week)before IFA which takes place in Berlin we should soon know what Motorola plans to bring to the table for this year’s flagship device. Are you excited?

Last week, a report claimed that LG would be launching a G Watch successor in at IFA 2014 for a release this fall. A teaser for the said device has surfaced and it is going by the name G Watch R. The extra letter is the only difference in name, but the design will certainly be different. The “R” is representing the round, circular display featured on the smartwatch. The device does have button on the side, just like the Moto 360.
The smartwatch industry is going to be very crowded this fall. The Moto 360 from Motorola is (eventually) going to be here, ASUS is going to announce something next month, and this could be the year Apple gets involved with smartwatches. There were also grumblings that HTC has a smartwatch incoming.

Come comment on this article: LG G Watch R teaser video shows the round smartwatch coming at IFA 2014
Many of us are patiently waiting on the Moto 360 to release, but while we wait LG seems to be do the opposite and is preparing to show off its brand new smartwatch at IFA in Berlin which takes place in the beginning of September. At first the IFA unveiling of the second generation G Watch was just a rumor, but now it’s a rumor that LG gave some truth to this morning with the teaser video they put out about the upcoming smartwatch. If you weren’t a fan of the original LG G Watch we imagine it could be for various reasons. Perhaps you just didn’t like the look, or maybe you weren’t fond of the plastic makeup and want your watches to be made with premium materials. Some simply may have just disliked the square face, something that isn’t usually associated with watches.
At least on one level LG is ready to address an issue that some people have found with its first watch, and that’s with the square face. The teaser this morning from LG briefly teases their upcoming watch we’ll assume will end up being called the G Watch R, which hints at the coming of a round watch face to follow up the G Watch and its square design. LG has obviously taken note of the fact that more than a few people are interested in the Moto 360′s round style, and this has likely led them to decide on something round for their own next product.
While we don’t get a real good look at whatever the actual design of the watch will be, we do get a few glimpses of watch faces and near the very end of the video we can see a slight blip of the possible end design. This could also just be a mocked up reference design for the video itself. A couple of things are certain, LG is now competing with Motorola for the likes of customers who want a rounded face on their smartwatch, and they’ll be showing off the device at IFA. LG also took the time to point out that their smartwatch will have what they’re calling a completely round face, something that has been a common complaint over the 360 due to the black bar at the bottom of the display. Take a look at the quick video and then you can see a few screenshots of other watchfaces that were shown in the video.

Granted, it's not a pretty render, but it is a render of LG's upcoming G Watch R - a smartwatch that appears to be sporting a full circular display (no Moto 360 cutout) with more classic chronograph styling. Motorola's Moto 360, on the other hand, is just a sexy circle from the future.
LG's design would seem to appeal to a more traditional watch buyer, someone who wants a smartwatch that looks a lot like, well, a regular watch.
