Gameloft Releases new Dungeon Hunter 5 Trailer

Gameloft is well known for its popular games: it seems every title released by the company is an instant hit. However, Gameloft is also well known for releasing exciting trailers for its games prior to their release. Dungeon Hunter 5 follows this rule, and Gameloft doesn’t disappoint.

The trailer shows some gameplay, along with title cards to clue those in who might not be familiar with the Dungeon Hunter franchise. The game itself is a huge improvement over its predecessor, although it still respects the continuity of Dungeon Hunter 4, due to its sequel nature. No word on when the game will be released as of yet, but stay tuned to TalkAndroid.com for more information.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge receives Android 5.0.1 in Australia

Samsung has been fiercely rolling out Lollipop updates to all of its eligible devices, like the S5, Note 3, S4, and Note 4, and the Note Edge is no exception. The update is available OTA and is a little less than a Gigabyte of storage, so If you live in the land down under, be sure to spam-check for updates all day long until you get yours.

If you need a refresher, Android 5.0, or Lollipop, brings Material Design to the UI, heads-up notifications, a much improved notifications system, multiple user accounts, a new multitasking interface, and Android Smart Lock. Other changes are battery life, security and performance improvements.

ASUS refreshes their tablet/phone hybrid lineup with the Fonepad 7

ASUS has announced a refresh in their massive Fonepad line with the Fonepad 7. The device features some decent upgrades over previous models, plus Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box.

The 7-inch, 1280 x 800 tablet sports a Intel processor under the hood, keeping up the trend with the Fonepad lineup. You’ll also find 2 GB of RAM, up to 16 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and a 5 megapixel rear camera. The Fonepad 7 supports 7 LTE bands for a wide range of wireless compatibility, and the speakers are located on the front of the device, which is a nice touch.

The tablet/phone hybrid won’t blow you out of the water, but since it’s going to retail for around $250, it’s not a bad deal. It might not be for everyone, but ASUS has had some decent success with their Fonepad line, so don’t expect it to disappear anytime soon.

AH Tech Talk: Why ARM Holdings Love big.LITTLE Processors

Most Android smartphones and tablets use either an Intel Atom processor or an ARM-type processor, which may be made by one of over a dozen component manufacturers from across the world such as Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia and MediaTek. Let’s put the Intel Atom processor to one side and consider the ARM processor business: ARM Holdings is the owner of the ARM designs but rather than design and build processors, as Intel does, instead ARM designs the processors and then licenses these to various manufacturers across the world. This ingenious business model means that ARM takes on the risk of a developing a processor core and the electronic component manufacturers take on the risk of building the hardware.

ARM offers a number of different licenses depending on what the component manufacturer wishes to do, but the usual format is an initial sum, which provides access to ARM engineers and the designs, followed by a license agreement based on the market value of the processors being built, usually between 1% to 2%. ARM’s licenses vary from a pre-designed component ready for manufacturer to the ability to use the architecture as the licensee sees fit. This is how the outgoing Qualcomm Krait architecture and Apple Swift processor designs work; they’re based on the ARM Cortex-A15 designs but with the manufacturers’ own implementation. One key point here is that ARM’s license fees vary according to the complexity of the design and support required. Fortunately, multiple copies of the same design (in other words, dual, quad or more core processors) don’t usually cost more than a single license, but combining two architectures in a big.LITTLE processor does increase costs (although ARM offers a discount). ARM do, however, charge a royalty for every chip used, so if the MALI graphics chip is used, this also incurs a license fee. Some modems contain ARM processor cores, too; in 2013 ARM explained that most smartphones contained between three to five of their cores and there’s every chance that this number has increased since then. The more complex the System-on-Chip, or SoC, the higher the licence fee to ARM Holdings.

The improvements to system performance through having those high performance but thirsty processor cores, combined with reduced battery consumption (when using the lower powered processor cores) makes the big.LITTLE approach worth the additional license fees. ARM are able to add value to the SoC manufacturers’ product and these recurring license fees is what allows the business to continue to develop processor cores; next year’s ARM Cortex-A72 is shaping up to be a very powerful chip indeed, almost four times quicker than the Cortex-A15.

Hulu merges Queue, Favorites, and Shows You Watch into all new ‘Watchlist’ feature

Hulu customers are being greeted today by some pretty big changes to the way the streaming video service organizes all their favorite content. Replacing users’ Queue, Favorites, and “Shows You Watch” is the now all-encompassing Watchlist.

According to Hulu, Watchlist is a smarter way of managing the content you love most by effectively “learning” your viewing habits. Hulu does this by keeping track of what you’re watching, then floating new episodes of shows you’ve been watching to the top of the list so you can quickly pick up where you left off.

Watchlist can also be used to save specific episodes, clips, trailers, shows, or movies by jumping into the “Details” section and scrolling to the bottom where you’ll find the new “add to Watchlist” button. You don’t have to worry about importing all your old stuff to the new Watchlist either. It’s all done automatically and will be waiting for you once you arrive.

As for a list of all the devices Watchlist is currently compatible with, they are as follows:

Pushbullet Updates Their App With Support For More Messaging Applications Like WhatsApp

Pushbullet isn’t a new application, but it is bringing in some new features with their latest update. Most notably, support for additional messaging services which you can use Pushbullet to relay to your desktop monitor. The usefulness of Pushbullet hits on a few fronts, but what is probably the main headlining feature is that you can use it to see your notifications on your desktop, which includes notifications from messaging apps like Evolve SMS. Pushbullet even added in the ability to message back from the Pushbullet desktop client if you were using Evolve, and now they’re adding in support for new, more popular messaging services that just might gain Pushbullet a ton more users.

Google’s Hangouts and WhatsApp are no doubt two of the most popular messaging apps on the planet, and with so many users enjoying the two platforms it’s almost a wonder Pushbullet had waited this long to add those two into the compatibility list, but whatever Pushbullet’s reasons Hangouts and WhatsApp are now capable of being used with Pushbullet’s desktop reply feature. Just to be clear, Pushbullet mirrors all your notifications on your device, so even if you have always used Hangouts, WhatsApp, or any other messaging service those notifications coming through would still show up on your desktop if Pushbullet was enabled. Now though, users will be able to respond directly from the desktop too, meaning you could have your phone across the room on the charger and be sitting at your desk, all the while maintaining conversation with people in your sms contact list.

Hangouts and WhatsApp aren’t the only two new messaging apps to get support for direct responses though, as Pushbullet has included Line, Facebook’s Messenger, and Telegram into the update too. To use the reply feature you need to be running at least Android 4.4 Kit Kat, and if you’re using Hangouts as your main sms app then Pushbullet has mentioned that you also need to have the Android Wear app installed on your device if you want to reply to Hangouts messages. We found this a bit odd, but Pushbullet states that the app merely needs to be installed on the phone, no Android Wear device required. They’ve also added in a new widget for Android, which lets you turn your notification forwarding on or off with a quick tap of the widget button. Super simple right? You can grab Pushbullet from the Play Store if you haven’t tried it yet, if you’re already using it, just update as normal.

Action Launcher Updated To Version 3.2 And Brings New Quickpage Feature For Easy App Access

If you are into customization than you probably are well aware of two easy to install launcher apps, which offer a customized experience with little work or outlay. You do not need to be rooted to take advantage of these launcher apps and instead, once downloaded, offer a quick-fix unique experience. The two apps you probably are already well aware of are Nova Launcher and Action Launcher. Both are highly customizable and both have been downloaded a bunch of times. The latter of the two received a rather hefty update back in December of 2014, bringing the launcher up to version 3.

Well, it seems the developer has today provided another update to the popular launcher app. This is only an incremental update, taking the launcher up to Version 3.2, that said, it is not a small update and does come with some rather neat new features. The first main feature is the employment of what has been dubbed ‘Quickpage’. This is a shortcut feature which allows the user to simply swipe in from the side of the screen to bring up a new page which lists all your apps in an easy to navigate way. Think how you activate Google Now coupled with a scrolling list of all of your apps. You can see what Quickpage looks like in the second image below. To add to this, another new feature “Quicktheme” has been included, which, in short allows the ability to customize how Quickpage is displayed and presented. This addition offers the ability to customize the size and scale of the icons and the ability to backup the settings and so on.

There are also a few more features noted in the changelog including the ability to set the default home screen, option to change animations when loading apps and the ability to lock the desktop. Not to mention there are a bunch of Material Design themed icons for those users running on Android 4.x (KitKat) and lower. If you are running Action Launcher already then you might have seen the update landing. If you haven’t (or if you have not tried Action Launcher yet) then the updated version is already available to download now directly from the Play Store. Check your email: Google is sending out an updated list of apps/games eligible for refunds

If you recently took up Google on their offer to receive refunds for accidental Google Play Store purchases made by a minor (in which they agreed to pay out $19 million in refunds), it seems they may have messed up and didn’t include your full list of app/games eligible for a refund. Today they’re making things right by sending out email with a link to an updated list of apps/games eligible for a refund, with a few extra items you might have missed the first time around.

We’re reaching out again to let you know that this issue is resolved, and the refund request form now correctly displays all in-app purchases on your account that may be eligible for a refund.

We encourage you to use the link below to review potentially eligible purchases on your account again and submit a request for any that were the result of unauthorized purchases by a minor.

To submit a refund request:

Use this link to sign into your Google account and review your in-app purchase history.

Select any in-app purchases that were unauthorized purchases made by a minor and click “Refund.”

Provide the requested information for any in-app purchases selected and click “Submit.”

Anyone that already submitted a refund request the first time around and don’t spot anything new in the updated list is good. You wont have to resubmit. This is just for anyone who manages to spot something new that slipped through the cracks the first time around. A link to view your (updated) Google Play store purchase history can be found here .

HTC says “let them stare” in new MWC 2015 teaser

We all know that HTC will introduce its next flagship device on March 1. Today, the company reminded us of that. The United Kingdom branch’s Twitter account posted a closeup image of a flower with the tagline “let them stare.” Is this in reference to the improved camera lens or the overall design? No one knows for sure at this time, but HTC likely means both.

The company included the “new HTC one” name below the tagline. Like last year, there is some debate over what the name of this year’s handset will be called. Some believe it will be the HTC One (M9) and others are going with the condensed HTC One.

We will learn more about HTC’s 2014 plans next month at MWC 2015.

DIY: Transform your LG G Watch R into a Watch Urbane using a little sandpaper

After scoping out the recently announced LG Watch Urbane, some LG G Watch R owners may have been left with feelings of buyers remorse. With a smooth metallic finish, our own Quentyn Kennemer felt the watch was the best looking smartwatch to date. But did you know that underneath the LG G Watch R’s matte black exterior was an Urbane just waiting to be revealed?

After seeing images of the Urbane, one resourceful G Watch owner took matters into his own hands. A sheet of fine grit sandpaper and a little elbow grease later, this brilliant do-it-yourselfer managed to successfully convert his G Watch into the Urbane — well, for the most part.

The Urbane does have a less prominent ring without the dial around the watch’s glass, as well as a slightly less chiseled exterior. But hey, this is damn close and we think it looks great.

What do you guys think? Anyone else thinking about doing something similar with their LG G Watch R?

Action Launcher Updated To v3.2 With The Return Of The Quickpage, Icon Scaling, And More

Action Launcher v3 came out a few months ago with a ton of refinements and a slimmed down feature set. I thought it was quite a nice app, but the lack of certain extras irked some users. Developer Chris Lacy has been hard at work pushing updates to the launcher since then, and today is a big one. Action Launcher v3.2 adds so much stuff I'm going to use our snazzy new multi-column layout for the changelog.
