LG Launches LG Call App to Google Play, Currently Compatible Only With Watch Urbane

An app called LG Call, that allows LG smartwatch owners to dial a phone number, then take the call on their smartphone, was released today onto Google Play. Unfortunately, in the app’s description, LG does not state specifically that this app is only usable by Watch Urbane owners, and this has apparently upset quite a few G Watch R and G Watch owners.

Nevertheless, for all of you Watch Urbane owners, you can access your contacts straight from the watch, then place a call. If the number you need is not already saved, you can input it into a dial pad on the watch, then have the phone call on your smartphone. It’s not a revolutionary concept, but it does exist now.

In the future, we could see this be made available for other LG-made smartwatches, and it’s quite possible that LG is only testing its usability on the small marketshare of Watch Urbane owners first before opening it to everybody.

Did you order a Watch Urbane? We did, and as soon as it gets here, you can expect a hands-on video.

There’s an Official SNL App on Google Play, Because We All Need More Cowbell

While you won’t find me sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday watching SNL these days, the show is responsible for many bits that are true classics in pop culture here in the US. SNL introduced us to big-time stars like Eddie Murphy, Chris Farley, Dan Aykroyd, Adam Sandler, and countless others.

To help you relive these classic sketches, an official SNL app has been released for Android, containing what seems to be all of the best bits you can remember. There are the hits like Mick Foley the Motivational Speaker and Christopher Walken in the Cowbell sketch, plus tons of other funny videos.

While you search through videos, you will be met by periodic 30-second ads, but to have access to a library such as this, a quick ad or two won’t kill you. Anyway, if you dig the old SNL stuff, or even the new stuff (no judgement), go grab it.

Cowbell, baby.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic on Sale for $3, Down From $10

If you need a game to keep you occupied this weekend, might we recommend you pick up Star Wars: KOTOR for just $3? On sale, down from $10, this is the original classic game in its entirety, not changed at all for mobile devices.

In the game, which is set approximately 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, a Sith armada has been unleashed onto the Republic. It is up to a small group of heroes to save the galaxy, using the Force, starships, and any other means you can to battle the evildoers. However, this is only if you choose the Light path. Nothing makes for a good Star Wars PRG without the need to choose the Dark or Light side. If you choose the Dark, your goal is to ultimately become the new Dark Lord of the Sith. So, which will you choose?

And in case this type of game does not interest you, Angry Birds Star Wars HD is on sale for $0.45, and Angry Birds Star Wars II is also on sale for $0.15. Deals on deals for Star Wars.

LG G4 Camera Samples

While we work on getting complete comparisons up between the LG G4 and the other flagship devices, as well as the full review, we figured we should get up a few camera shots for all of you, just so you can see what to expect from the LG G4. To recap the specs, the G4 features a 16MP rear-facing camera, complete with optical image stabilization (OIS) and laser auto focus.

Frankly, the camera is very good, but that should not be too surprising. Last year’s G3 was also very good, and if anything, the G4 is another positive step forward. The G4 features a new Manual Mode that allows shooters to control specific image attributes, such as white balance, ISO, manual focus, and a shutter speed option. The shutter speed feature is a major plus, as no other flagship device currently offers this setting. With it, you can get sweet light trail shots, although from what I can see, it takes almost perfect lighting, which is somewhat rare when we are talking smartphone photography.

When shooting in Auto mode, photos mostly come out very bright and detailed, as you can see in the shots of NYC below. Even when in not-so-perfect lighting, the space focused on comes out well, but the rest of the image is rather noisy and not-so-nice to look at. An example of this would be the Buddha statue.

But what about low light conditions? I’m glad you asked. Believe it or not, the two shots of my dogs (Thor and Loki) were taken with low lighting inside of my home. The camera seems to do great when soaking in as much light as possible, allowing the photos to come out pretty bright and crisp. For example, in the photo of Loki (the wolf dog), we can see there is a light source in the background, which would usually leave the subject in darkness or shadow. Instead, he comes out very well. When we do full camera shootouts between the G4, Galaxy S6, and One M9, we will get more low light comparison shots to show you just how well the G4 camera shines in low lighting.

As we work on a ton more LG G4 coverage, take a look at the photos below, then share your thoughts in the comments section.

Samsung Details Design and Manufacturing of Galaxy S6 Edge in Latest Video

The design of the Galaxy S6 Edge from Samsung, you either love it or hate it. Personally, I dig it, and in the latest video from Samsung on their YouTube channel, the OEM goes over the work it took to make such a fancy smartphone.

The details in the video are not very informative, but we do learn about the materials used and manipulated to create the unique look of the device. For instance, Samsung states that they curve the Gorilla Glass used on the frontside at 800°C, as well as utilize aerospace-grade aluminum for the siding. It’s fancy.

Do we have any S6 Edge owners here? How are you liking your phone?

Meerkat Beats Periscope to Google Play, Now Available in Form of a Buggy Beta

The day has finally come. To cap off this week, one of the super trendy streaming apps has finally hit Android in the form of a beta, Meerkat. Meerkat is the app that launched ahead of Twitter’s own Periscope, which allows users to stream feeds of video while linked to your Twitter account. Both apps have seen great success on iOS, and thankfully, Android folk can now join in on the fun.

Once you have Meerkat booted up and logged into your Twitter account, you can view streams from other individuals, host your own little stream for people to watch, and also check out the top users of Meerkat view a leaderboard. As of this morning, Madonna is the top Meerkat users. Awesome.

Now, before you head on over to Google Play, note that the rating for Meerkat (beta) is currently overwhelmed by 1 star reviews. People say it doesn’t work, crashing and just not loading. However, I tried it on the LG G4 and it seems to work fine. Hopefully your experience can be positive, too.

Download it, then let us know what you think.

Verizon Prepaid Customers Now Get 1GB Bonus Data by Signing Up for Autopay

If you are on either of Verizon’s prepaid plans – $45/1GB or $60/2.5GB – and sign up for autopay, you are entitled to an extra 1GB of data each month. The carrier announced the bonus this morning, which will go live on prepaid customer accounts after their first autopay payment is successfully processed.

For customers already on autopay, the bonus 1GB of data arrive after their next autopay payment is made.

With the bonus 1GB of data each month, Verizon’s plans are only getting more appealing. The $45/1GB plan now becomes a 2GB plan, whereas the $60/2.5GB plan becomes a 3.5GB plan. That’s not quite at the level of AT&T’s $60/4GB plan, which can be reduced to $55 with autopay, but it’s in play.

Enjoy the data, autopayees.
