Wrestling Fans, The Rock Clock is Your New Alarm Clock App

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, known for his glorious past in wrestling and portrayal of the Tooth Fairy in a movie sharing the same name, now has an alarm clock app on Google Play. Called The Rock Clock, this basic alarm app asks you to provide a project — or goal of some kind — followed by a date at which you want to complete it. For example, I could set a goal to finish this post by next week, then set a time of 7am for the app to wake me up each morning. And that’s it.

Besides just waking you up in the morning, The Rock Clock offers new alarm tones for you to wake up to, including a few even sung by The Rock himself. Additionally, if you want wake up at the same time as The Rock, you can set the Rock Time. Rock Time means your alarm will go off at the exact time The Rock has his alarm go off. And let me tell you, it’s early. According to the app, he has his alarm currently set for 4:15am. Thanks, but no thanks.

Not only can you wake up with Dwayne, but The Rock also sends out video messages to users of the app. These messages will likely be motivational in nature, maybe even featuring a few curse words here and there. That’d be badass.

The app is completely free to download and there are zero in-app purchases. Give it a go if you can’t get enough Rock in your life.

Cheers Rashad!

eBay Receives Update on Android, Includes Navigation and Design Changes

In September of 2015, eBay launched a redesigned app for Android, and for the most part, it seems to be fairing pretty well with Android users. However, more can always be done, so eBay is releasing yet another big update for Android, as well as iOS, bringing more of a native feel for the application. According to eBay, the update is soaked in Material Design, offering changes to navigation, utility, and design.

As stated by eBay, this update will, “restore some of the favorite features from previous apps, as requested by users over the past months.”

Listed on the changelog, the biggest changes will be optimization across different devices for the same eBay experience regardless of whether you are on a tablet or smartphone, a better managing of items you are selling, and a beefed up personalization effort.

What’s New

  • Navigation: With this update, users will be able to easily navigate throughout the app with the simplified horizontal navigation bar on iOS and navigation drawer on Android.
  • Users will see more of their recent Search history.
  • Utility Optimization across mobile and tablet screens for a seamless experience across devices.
  • Selling remains a one-stop-shop destination. We will continue to innovate in this area, improving how users can start new listings, complete drafts, and easily manage all their selling activity on active, sold and unsold items.
  • Related Items leverage eBay’s structured data, allowing users to discover similar items closely related to what they’re currently viewing.
  • Personalization draws on data and insights to continue to enhance the user experience; users will see relevant and tailored items, specifically based on their shopping behavior.
  • Design and Speed: A faster experience making it easier for users to find what you want. With the move to Material Design, Android users can look forward to a more intuitive experience.

This update is rolling out now to Google Play for Android, as well as the Apps Store for iOS devices.

Beme, the Video Sharing App From Casey Neistat, is Now on Android

Casey Neistat, the popular YouTuber who does daily vlog-like entries of the highest quality that are more often than not very entertaining to watch, released his Beme app today on Android for the first time. Initially launching as an iOS exclusive in beta, the app has received a bundle of improvements today while arriving on the good side of mobile.

What is Beme? As the title mentions, Beme is another social video sharing service. Beme differs from others in that it wants you to capture real, in-the-moment type of shots that you don’t have much control over. That sounds odd (the control part), but the point here is that you could potentially create some fun clips of your day or life by not worrying about filters and editing and framing. Instead, by just shooting whatever is on the other side of your camera before sharing without touching any of it up, you get that “realness.” Make sense?

To use Beme, you need to sign-up (obviously), but the video shooting part is probably something new to you. To start capturing, all you do is open the app and the hold your phone up to your chest and it begins recording. You don’t have a viewfinder to see what you are shooting, since Beme is trying to just capture whatever you are looking at. To end recording, simply pull your phone away from your body. In reality, all you are doing is covering up the top sensors of your phone to get it to record, so the body pinning of your phone isn’t necessarily necessary – a finger covering that area would work as well. Once done recording, the app automatically shares the clip to your friends and followers on Beme, to which they can then respond.

You should be able to discover other feeds and find videos from all over the world, as well.

But yeah, it’s another video sharing app. It is free.

Google Keyboard 5.0 Arrives With Lots of Awesomeness, Download It Now

Oooooooh, a big ol’ Google Keyboard just showed up today as v5.0 and it is packed full of awesomeness. We’re talking about keyboard height adjustments, borders around keys, one-handed mode, new gestures, and some new layouts when in the number and symbol layout, that includes a flip to a dial pad.

To get to most of the new settings, you’ll need to jump into the Google Keyboard app. From there, you will find options for borders on keys and one-handed modes under “Preferences.” All of those details are pretty self-explanatory, right?

Outside of those tweaks and normal gesture typing, Google also added in the ability to swipe from the delete key to the left to highlight anywhere from one word to entire sentences in a text box. To try this out, type out two or three words, press the delete key and then continue swiping over to the left and you should see as each word is highlighted one by one. To delete, just lift up.

The other gesture is much simpler and its a way to use the spacebar as a cursor adjustor. By sliding your finger across the spacebar, you can specifically place the cursor anywhere in a line of text or even in a word.

If you have not yet figured out how to get into the one-handed keyboard, a long-press on the comma should do it.

And finally, if you jump into the number and symbol screen, you will find both standard and keypad style layouts and quick emoji shortcuts where you would typically see predictions.

To update to the new version, feel to grab it through Google Play. If you aren’t seeing the update there, we have the .apk for you below as v5.0.18.121010836.

Report: Galaxy Note 6 Will Feature USB Type-C

According to the latest exclusive from SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 6 from Samsung will in fact feature USB Type-C — no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It was previously reported from the Wall Street Journal that the Galaxy S7 would feature a Type-C port, but as you can see, that did not happen.

As for why Samsung is one of the last major OEMs to adopt Type-C, it is speculated that the company was not yet ready to toss away all of the Gear VR units it had created with microUSB connections due to a new port. Instead, Samsung would wait until its next big release to introduce not only USB Type-C for its phones, but for its virtual reality platform, too.

At this time, it is still unknown if Samsung will adopt USB 3.1 or an older standard, but we do hope Samsung opts for 3.1. This move would then allow for Power Delivery 2.0 (faster battery charging), plus the ability to carry HDMI and Display Port video signals.

Before we all start cheering, let me be clear. We have heard these types of reports before. We hear them, get excited, then something else happens. It’s the way this industry works. For now, we will remain optimistic, but won’t hold our breath. Additionally, do note that SamMobile still believes that the Galaxy Note 6 might come with an iris scanner. Now that is a feature to get hyped over.

Huawei Watch Elegant ($449) and Jewel ($549) Available in the US

Huawei has two new Watch styles available this week in the US, the Jewel and the Elegant. These models were shown off during this year’s CES, but were said to launch during Q1. While they are arriving just a tad late in the US, they are here now at multiple online retailers, in all of their shiny glory.

According to the product listings, the Jewel and Elegant differ only in appearance from the first lineup of Huawei Watch models. They pack a Snapdragon 400, scratch-resistant two-layer Sapphire crystal, 1.4″ AMOLED display, 316L cold-forged stainless steel body, 4GB of internal memory, heart rate monitor, and 300mAh battery.

As for differences between the Elegant and Jewel, the Jewel — being the $100 more expensive model — features 68 Swarovski Zirconia encircling the face. That’s a whole lot of bling bling.

Again, there are multiple places to purchase these two variants. If you are interested in picking one of these up, follow one of the links below.

Motorola Begins Teasing New Phone With Better Camera, Battery, Security, Performance

A new Motorola phone is “coming soon,” according to Motorola India’s Twitter account. Within the past week, this specific account began teasing an upcoming phone that should have improved battery life, security/privacy, performance, and a “better” camera. We are mostly assuming that this is a new Moto G, likely the 4th gen model, after the phone supposedly leaked within recent weeks. News outlets out of India are also suggesting that Motorola has an event planned for May 17 in New Delhi to announce a new phone.

Through a series of tweets, the Motorola account is taking a playful approach to missing persons, who have apparently gone missing because their phones all lack the features I mentioned above. Like this girl below, she went missing after clicking on a blurry groupfie. Yes, Motorola just said “groupfie.”

Or in this instance, we have what appears to be a 30 year old man who is “22” and whose father still snoops on his phone and found all of the porn he has consumed recently. This new phone will protect all of his dirty little secrets, but probably won’t get him out of his parent’s house until he’s 40.

And this guy was going to propose to his girlfriend via text message…wow.

We aren’t sure why Motorola is setting this all up for a launch of out India instead of throughout the rest of the world, but as we learn more, we will do our best to share it.

LG Just Created a Button-Less Fingerprint Sensor That Hides Under a Display

To talk about LG’s latest innovation, we should turn to Apple’s brodog-in-Chief, Phil Schiller, to a time when he dropped the quote, “Can’t innovate anymore, my ass.” Schiller was referencing the company’s trashcan-shaped Mac Pro computer, but we are using it in reference to LG’s new fingerprint sensor that lives underneath a phone’s display and can be read without the need for a dedicated button. Yes, your mind is wandering into the proper place – LG’s new fingerprint reader will hide just below the glass on your next phone’s display, potentially leading to even cleaner, buttonless smartphone designs.

LG announced the new fingerprint reader last night, stating that this new sensor “gives the freedom of the smartphone design and even enhances the user-friendly function.” What they are saying is that this isn’t the typical “button type” design, which should allow manufacturers to focus on additional features, like water resistance and a sleeker design. LG also said that the fingerprint recognition area “can be indicated by various patterns up to design of the complete product.”

In order to implement this new under-glass fingerprint sensor, LG says they are creating a furrow of 0.3mm thick under the bottom portion of a phone’s glass panel before using a proprietary adhesive to get it to stick. You can see a sample of it above, where we have a display panel and a fingerprint sensor that can’t be seen, outside of the connector for it, which would be embedded within a phone anyway.

LG says that this new fingerprint sensor has a 0.002% false acceptance rate (FAR), the rate at which it incorrectly recognizes someone else’s biometric information “as that of the user.”

The press release for this new fingerprint sensor does not mention when we could see this in a phone, but LG typically announces new products like this when they are ready to manufacture them.

Pretty cool, right?
