Unfortunately, not every smartphone that runs Android has gotten a chance to taste Kitkat. Unlike Google’s Nexus line or Play Edition devices, phones manufactured by Samsung, HTC, or LG don’t send out the update until months later. Fortunate enough, months have passed since the release of Kitkat and many devices are currently running the latest OS. Devices released this year have also been introduced to the sweet breakable bar. If you own an LG Optimus G or an Optimus G Pro, get your phone ready because you’ve got some chocolate coming your way. According to LG Brazil on their official Facebook account, the Optimus G Pro will receive the Kit Kat 4.4.2 update in July and the Optimus G, which by now is 2 years old, will receive the update by the end of August.
The LG Optimus G and Optimus G Pro aren’t the only two LG devices that are receiving the Android 4.4.2 update. It was also stated by LG Brazil that the LG G Pro Lite and the LG Optimus L7 II will also be receiving the update to Android 4.4.2 by the end of the year. This is the farthest back LG will be going with updating their lineup of devices with Kit Kat because the LG Optimus 4X HD and LG Optimus F5 will not be receiving Android 4.4.2. It may be unfortunate for owners of those LG devices, but with the fast pace movement of the mobile tech world, newer phones with the latest hardware and software will quickly outdate older phones, so the OEMs see no need.
Android L is only a few months down the road and devices that are running Kit Kat will soon either be updated or eventually end up like those outdated phones running old software. There’s no word on whether LG will update their Optimus G and Optimus G Pro to Android L but it is for certain newer devices like the LG G3 will receive the update, along with future devices. It’s not quite Wednesday but that isn’t stopping Google from updating some of their core apps. Upon opening the “my apps” section in the Play Store I noticed that Docs was listed in there, but we’re not sure what if any notable changes have been made. The changes worth mentioning today seem to be coming to Google Play Music, which has recently began updating for users alongside another Google app, YouTube. We talked about the changes made to YouTube earlier, or rather one change, So let’s go over what this update to Google Play Music has to offer those who use the app and service.
First off, one glaring change which may or may not effect many users is the change Google is making to the “authorized devices” list for Google Play Music. No they’re not chopping the number in half or anything like that, at least not in actuality. They are however chopping the number of authorized devices that can be phones in half, as you used to be able to use any device you please as one slot in the total list of 10. If you had 10 phones, prior to this update every single one of them could have been an authorized device. After the update is finished, users will not be able to use more than five phones in the list, while the other five could be saved for tablets, a Google TV, a Chromebook, Chromebox etc.
This is a change that like we stated above probably won’t effect many users as most people may only have a few phones that they tie to the account. There are those select few though that may have their Google Play Music account linked on many different phones so that everyone using those devices could be listening to a vast music library. Besides the alterations Google made to the authorized devices list, they changed up a few UI design elements as well. Not really design elements of the UI but more or less placement of certain things. Google has now moved the toggle switch for playing music from “on device” or streaming from the cloud library to the window panel that you access by swiping out from the left, along with the capability to switch between your Google accounts from the dropdown switcher up above like you can in just about every other Google app, like the Play Store and Gmail for example. Is anyone a little let down by the authorized devices tweaks?

There have been a few reports about the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra phablet device hitting some US Carriers, or at least T-mobile, which we actually heard about back in March. The information at the time only pointed to a T-Mobile launch of the device sometime later this year, and according to this recent post on Xperia Blog it looks like “later this year” is going to be on July 23rd. That’s now less than a month away seeing as how July 1st is already tomorrow, so T-mobile subscribers looking to get their hands on a new Sony device with a big screen may have their opportunity near the end of this month. Something like this is cool to see if the release date pans out to be true, but also comes off as a little bit frustrating to those that have been eagerly waiting for Sony to launch the Xperia Z2 here in the states.
The information actually comes from Tmo News, who covers pretty much everything there is to know about T-Mobile and all the happenings coming to and from the U.S. fourth largest wireless carrier. There isn’t much of a waiting period here before we find out the truth when it comes to the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra but the obvious question now that we have a tentative launch date, is how much will T-Mobile be selling the Xperia T2 Ultra for when and if it launches on the network?
That’s a question that we should hopefully learn just a few weeks from now if we get an official word from T-Mobile themselves, and just in case you may have missed what kind of specs this phone will be running, we’ll go over the main stuff here. The Xperia T Ultra is said to be sporting a fairly large 6-inch IPS display, but the screen quality on that size display only comes in at an underwhelming 720p resolution. Not too shabby though is the rear facing camera, supposedly being a 13MP which isn’t bad but definitely not up to par with other more high end Xperia phones like the Xperia Z1 and Z2. The battery comes in at 3,000mAh so the phone should be able to last you all day and then some, and when it comes to the CPU and GPU we should be looking at a quad-core CPU from Qualcomm, more specifically the MSM8928 clocked at 1.4GHz, with an Adreno 305 chip for the graphics. Storage is listed at 8GB and there should be a microSD card slot to expand on that if needed. All in all it will probably be a decent device so long as it’s set a reasonable cost.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega is a huge phone with a screen size of 6.3 inches. It has been confirmed by Samsung themselves that the second generation of Mega’s are on the way and now details on that device have surfaced. On the GFXBench benchmark database, a device with a model number of SM-G7508 has popped up. According to the data, the Mega 2 will have a 1280 x 720 screen resolution and a 5.9 inch screen. The screen is a bit smaller, only indicating that this device will not be as big as the first Galaxy Mega. Another interesting aspect of this device is that it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. The Chipset is the first 64 bit processor built by Qualcomm and is said to be tested in other Samsung Devices as well and not just the Galaxy mega 2.
In addition to the 64 bit processor, the information from GFXBench says that The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will have 2GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage. Those numbers are quite small for a large phone so we’re not sure if that’s correct or not. The information also says that the Mega 2 will include a 12 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front facing camera, neither of which are too shabby but aren’t industry leading by any means compared to what else is already out there. The operating system on the device is Android 4.4.3 but by the time this phone releases, it should come with Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat. According to this information provided by GFXBench, the specs seem a bit weird. A phone running a 64 bit processor presumably wouldn’t have just 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Also the fact that it’s releasing on Android 4.4.3 which was a flawed update that Google quickly patched up with 4.4.4 just seems a tad bit odd.
There is no word on when the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will be released but with benchmark information popping up, we’re getting the hint that Samsung is hard at work putting this phone together. The first Samsung Galaxy Mega was released in August, so it is a little too early to start anticipating the release of the Mega 2. Below is the benchmark information found on GFXBench. Google seems to be taking it upon themselves to simplify just about everything that they can in the latest updates to not only its Android operating system, but also its suite of core applications. With Android’s latest release and future efforts to improve Chrome and Google Search, they’re making an attempt to unify everything together and that is exactly what they’re doing with the YouTube app for Android, and the purchase history of one’s Google Play Movies and TV library. With the latest update to YouTube which doesn’t seem to be rolling out to everyone just yet,(it hasn’t shown up in the “my apps” section for me personally)you can now see your purchased media from Google Play Movies and TV from within the slide out menu.
making the choice to unify the content with the YouTube app isn’t the most monumental thing that Google has brought to Android, but it should make getting to that content easier if you’re already watching videos within YouTube, and you suddenly get the urge to jump to a Movie or TV show that you had purchased prior. While The Play Movies and TV application has a set level of organization about it Google hasn’t done the same thing with the access to that media within YouTube. Every movie and television episode that you have ever purchased will be listed, but there is no rhyme or reason according to Android Police, it’s simply there.
We’re sure this will delight some users while other will really not care either way, but as someone who uses YouTube often and used to use Google Play Movies just as much, this would have been great if it were implemented ages ago. This is just one of many small changes we’re seeing come to Android, and even though it may not be part of the bigger picture when it comes to Google’s goals of unification, it is a “unification” of some kind and it could be more convenient for those who are using their YouTube app on a constant basis every day. It’s probably not the strongest of “leaks” we’ve seen, but a Brazilian retailer has posted what they believe are some of the hardware specs from the upcoming Motorola Moto X+1. A phone still shrouded in mystery, Motorola’s done a pretty good job at keeping this thing under wraps. But as we saw back with Moto E, for whatever reason Brazil seems to get the scoops on Motorola devices.
The phone’s listing page — which is still very much “under construction” — actually has notes for the webmaster to go in and add additional information that reads, “Write a description as shipped by the manufacturer in email 45789.” It then goes on to list the following specs:
The biggest question is whether they got the information through official sources, or just made their best guess. Given they’re Bookstore that also sells electronics, your guess is as good as ours. When it comes to leaks and rumors, we’re taking this one with the smallest grain of salt.
Eliss Infinity (previously known as just Ellis) is famous for being one of the most popular early games in mobile history. It was praised for offering one of the best multi-touch experiences, especially when released, in 2009. Now the game has evolved into Eliss Infinity and is finally reaching the Android platform.
The popular game is now available from the Google Play Store with a $2.99 price tag, which is not bad for a game that will keep you entertained for hours on end. The idea is to manipulate and handle planets. You can merge them, split them or do anything you want with them. Just be sure to not let different colored planets crash.
While the Android port is huge news by itself, that is not all developer Finji Games has to offer today. Version 1.1 has been pushed out, offering a long list of healthy improvements and bug fixes. Included are new animations, sounds, score visualizations and achievements.
