Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P Names Show Up on Retail Packaging

Remember our exclusive report from last week, where we told you that the new Nexus phones from Google would be called the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P? New photos of each phone’s retail box have essentially backed up that report, in case you had any doubt (which you didn’t).

The photos arrive courtesy of Android Police and are included below.

I’d love to tell you that these provide new information, but well, they don’t really offer anything other than by providing us with the design of each box. They do give us mini previews of each phone in the top left corner, under the name of the phone. The silhouettes certainly look a lot like the previous leaks, which our sources told us are correct. Other than that, we have “P” and “X” markings in bold, colorful graphics across the front of each box to let you know which phone is which.

On a related note, Android Police is reporting that the LG Nexus 5X will come with 16GB and 32GB storage options, while the Huawei Nexus 6P will be available with 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB storage options.

The new Nexus phones will become official next Tuesday at a Google event in San Francisco, but don’t be surprised if the leak floodgates have now opened. Exciting times.

Google’s Clock App Receives Major Update, Includes New Android Wear Functionality

The official Clock app from Google, which has been basically made into the Timely app after Google acquired it, received a major update today that brings even more Timely-like features for all Android users.

Other additions include the customization of your favorite timer ringtone, control timers from a notification, easier alarm and timer management on Android Wear devices, plus interactive alarm notifications on Android Wear smartwatches.

Check out the changelog, then go grab the update.

Moto 360 (2nd Gen) Unboxing and Tour!

What’s up, Moto 360 (2nd gen) in all sorts of knurled-out gold? Welcome to Droid Life.

Before we review you, it’s time to put you through a quick unboxing to not only share with the crew that we have you, but also because you need to be touched. We need to feel that knurl. We need that gold on our wrist. We need that Horween leather on our skin.

What’s that? You come with upgrades, like a Snapdragon 400 processor and 400mAh battery? Oh, and those look like lugs. Yes indeed, those are lugs. And thank you, for switching that crown to the 2 o’clock position – our wrists will appreciate not being poked every time we lean on the bar for that next cocktail order.

Enough from us, though, it’s time for your cameo. Do your unboxing thang, Moto 360, do it.

LG V10 “Ticker” Press Render Hits the Web, Proceeds to Confuse Us

LG is hosting an event on October 1, and thanks to @evleaks, we have a pretty good idea as to what the company will be showing off. Today, Evan released a press render of the V10 “Ticker” device, featuring its secondary display. Oddly enough, the second display appears to be on the top of the device, which should have potential buyers really working out those thumb muscles.

Rumored specs for the V10 include a 5.7-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 808 processor, 16MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, microSD slot, 3GB RAM, 64GB storage, and integrated fingerprint scanner.

This render shows what appears to be a secondary front-facing camera too, or the render is just incorrect and one of the circular cutouts will be a sensor of some kind. Although, with 2 front-facing cameras, we could get some righteous 3D selfies going on.

With the secondary display on top of the phone, we pretty much need LG to explain how we are intended to use this device. With this placement, it seems rather inconvenient to use with just the stretch of the thumb.

October 1, we should know everything.

Gmail on Android is Getting “Block Sender” and “Unsubscribe” Options

Google is pushing an update to Gmail on Android today that introduces two new features, “Block Sender” and “Unsubscribe.” The features function exactly like they sound, in that they let you quickly block specific email addresses from within an email or unsubscribe from mailing lists without leaving the Gmail app.

As you can see in the two GIFs below, the “Block Sender” option appears in the action overflow menu inside of an email where you would typically find the “forward” or “reply all” options. As for “Unsubscribe,” that lies within the action overflow menu at the top right corner of Gmail, when looking at an individual email, next to the Archive and Delete buttons.

When you block someone, their emails will then head directly into your spam folder going forward. When unsubscribing, you are simply unsubscribing.

Deal: Tronsmart Dual-Port Quick Charge 2.0 Car Charger is $10.99 With This Code

At this point, you guys all know what Quick Charge 2.0 is. If not, well, read this post. For those up to speed, we wanted to share this deal on a Tronsmart Dual-Port Quick Charge 2.0 car charger that is $9-off thanks to a coupon code.

We’re pointing it out because most QC 2.0 car chargers are either single-port or if they have two ports, only one has QC 2.0 enabled. With this charger, you get both ports active in the QC 2.0 game, which is a big deal, especially on drives where you and your passenger both need juice in a hurry.

We aren’t sure how long the code is good for, so jump on it. It’s also Prime eligible.

Use coupon code “VYWBJYI5” at checkout to drop the price to $10.99.

Starbucks Mobile Order and Pay Available to All on Android

This morning, Starbucks announced that its Mobile Order & Pay feature is now available nationwide on iOS and Android. The feature had previously launched in the northwest back in 2014 as a test, but thanks to massive amounts of line-skipping coffee enjoyment, it’s a bonafide success and is available to everyone. In the words of my hipster brethren here in Portland, we’ve been doing this for years.

So what is Mobile Order and Pay? Through the Starbucks Android app, you can order coffee at specific stores, pay for it, and then pick it up without having to wait in line. The app lets you customize the drink (food items too) and gives you an estimated time as to when it will be ready. Neat, right?

The update is live now on Google Play.
