Here are More Pictures of the OnePlus Mini

Last week, a new device from OnePlus hit the FCC, which is reported to be called either the OnePlus Mini or OnePlus X. Regardless of its name, the device has been posted onto the Weibo site overseas, giving us a better look at what to expect from OnePlus’ second device of the year.

From this new set of images, the device looks quite plain, featuring an all-black exterior. The frontside features capacitive buttons, with OnePlus possibly ditching the fingerprint reader. On the backside, we see a rear-facing camera, LED flash, and OnePlus logo. The one side image features a single button, which is possibly the power button.

As of right now, the specs reported to launch with the OnePlus Mini are as follows – 5″ 1080p display, MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear-facing camera, and NFC. Yes, NFC!

Of course, we have heard nothing from OnePlus in terms of expecting a new device, but evidence suggests that we should see this device launch sometime later this year.

Hangouts 5.0 Update Rolling Out to Google Play

Hangouts 4.0 has not been around all too long, but today, Google is slowly starting to roll out Hangouts 5.0 for all through Google Play. The overall feel of the 5.0 update should be very similar to 4.0, although, Google has likely gone through and squashed a ton of little bugs and made the experience on Hangouts smoother.

Once we have played with the update for a bit, we will update this post with what you can expect to see once the update hits your device.

AT&T Launches 4G LTE in Mexico

AT&T made it clear within the last year that it wants to take over the wireless scene in Mexico, it seems, after acquiring Iusacell and Nextel Mexico. To further that thought, the company announced that 40 million people in Mexico are now covered by its 4G LTE network.

By using both Iusacell and Nextel networks, AT&T has not only added coverage to 40 million people, but they should see that number jumps to 75 million by the end of next year and 100 million by the end of 2018.

The following cities/areas in Mexico now have 4G LTE:

Atlacomulco, Estado de México
Cuernavaca, Morelos
Cuautla, Morelos
Pachuca, Hidalgo
Tepeji, Hidalgo
Tulancingo, Hidalgo

Here’s the HTC One A9

Twitter account @OnLeaks posted a few photos of the HTC One A9 this weekend, ahead of its probable unveiling on October 20 in New York City. The photos are of a dummy unit, meaning it has no working parts inside, but the body should be true to what we will see when the device is made official.

We have already seen the device pictured here and there, but with these photos, we get a great sense of the overall look and shape of the phone. We can clearly see rounded edges, a fingerprint reader on the bottom frontside, and centered rear-facing camera. On the left side, we have access to the SIM tray and microSD card slot, and on the right side, there is a volume rocker and textured power button.

Again, this device is expected to be announced on October 20, with launch set for November. We don’t know which carriers plan on making it available, but the dummy unit pictured is an AT&T variant, so that’s basically confirmed.

Verizon’s DROID Turbo 2 is the “Kinzie,” Plus Some Other Details

Remember that mysterious Motorola device that showed up in a benchmark, rumors, and at the FCC back in May/June/July on its way to Verizon under the codename “Kinzie” and model number XT1585? It’s the DROID Turbo 2, in case you were wondering. Why it hasn’t arrived yet is beyond us, but we have learned some additional details about the device today.

As I just mentioned, the Turbo 2 is indeed the Kinzie, a device that has a 5.5-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 810, 3GB, 20MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, Turbo Charging, and Android 5.1.1. By all means, this sounds like a flagship, just like last year’s original DROID Turbo.

While we haven’t seen the actual device, we are pretty sure it looks like this.

My guess is that this phone and the new DROID MAXX 2 will arrive towards the end of this month. Last year’s Turbo was announced on October 28 and it would make sense for Verizon to do something similar, especially with the holiday shopping season approaching.

Here’s Our First Look at the TAG Heuer “Connected” Smartwatch

According to TAG Heuer’s official Twitter, plus a countdown happening on the company’s website, Connected, the apparent name for its Android Wear smartwatch, is officially coming November 9. The date has been known since late September thanks to TAG Heuer’s CEO, but now everyone can follow the fun thanks to a countdown, in addition to an email signup if you are interested in being one of the first to know everything about it.

The above photo is taken directly from TAG’s website, and it is our first look at what to expect in terms of design. So far, it’s looking pretty bad ass.

Of course, with a name like TAG, potential buyers will be looking at a $1,800 purchase price, which easily makes this smartwatch one of the most expensive Android Wear units to ever be released.

TAG Heuer is pushing the Swiss avant-garde limits even further with the TAG Heuer Connected. Tradition meets innovation, craftsmanship meets savoir-faire, and bold style meets breakthrough technology. The clock is ticking to the major breakthrough.

Verizon and AT&T Moto X (2nd Gen) May See Android 6.0 Update After All?

After recently strolling through the WiFi Alliance for certification, it appears that the Verizon and AT&T variants of the Moto X (2nd Gen) may see an Android 6.0 update after all. On October 2, Motorola posted an official list of devices that were to receive Marshmallow, and to the outrage of possibly the entire Internet, XT1097 (AT&T) and XT1096 (Verizon) were not listed.

To make sure it was not a mistake, which we sincerely hoped that it was, we reached out to Motorola, but surprisingly never heard back. However, this weekend, WiFi certifications for both of these devices were spotted, indeed running Android 6.0. To receive these certifications, it seems probable that the devices would need to be running finalized software that would be rolled out to consumers.

The certificates carry a date of September 30, giving Motorola enough time to confirm whether or not they intended to roll out a Marshmallow update. It is possible that Motorola’s initial plan was to release Android 6.0, but something happened and the plan was scrapped.

Hopefully, this certification points to a possible update, but with zero word on the matter coming directly from Motorola, it is anyone’s guess at this time.

Our fingers are crossed for all of you Moto X (2nd Gen) owners.

Not familiar with Music Flow? It’s like Sonos. These are high-end speakers for your house that can be used for a multi-room music experience (play same or different music in multiple rooms all with control on your phone) or set up like a theater. The sound is awesome, the connectivity is even better, and they should work with almost all of your favorite music services. These speakers are also Google Cast ready, so if anything, you can Cast music directly to them.

We aren’t typically speaker promoters, but these are pretty crazy deals. Sonos is one of my favorite pieces of technically and these are very similar. Thing is, Sonos speakers are almost never discounted, so this is an excellent option.

Sundar Pichai Gives Key Android Heads More Power

In his first set of executive moves as CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai has handed out more power to a couple of key Android heads that you can expect to see for the foreseeable future. Hiroshi Lockheimer and Dave Burke, those are two names you should probably get used to if you follow Android close enough to care about the people controlling it.

According to Recode, Pichai has tagged Lockheimer as SVP of Android, Chrome OS, and Chromecast, which is a step up from his VP of Android role. As for Burke, he has now been given even more “leadership duties” as an Android VP on the engineering side. Burke has also become quite the regular for Google on stage at events where they have new Android goodness to show off. You may recall his unveiling of the Android M preview and new Nexus phones at I/O and Google’s recent Nexus event.

It’s amazing how many changes we have seen on these teams over the years, particularly in relation to Android. Take a look at this picture from 2011. Who would have thought four years later only Sundar would be left and 100% in charge.
