Google Play Hosting a $0.10 Sale Right Now

As of right now, Google Play is hosting a $0.10 sale, allowing you to pick up a few fun gaming titles at a very discounted price. Right now, it appears you can pick up Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Dead Space, Monopoly, and about ten other titles.

While I don’t think any of these titles are anything to write home about, you can’t beat paying only $0.10 for them. Plus, Need for Speed is a total blast.

Have at it.

Moto X Pure Edition Receiving First Soak Test Update

According to emails rolling out to select owners, the Moto X Pure Edition is about to receive its first soak test from Motorola. Ah, the benefits of not being tied to a carrier.

Sadly, the email gives no hint as to what owners might expect to see, and it does not seem probable to hope for Android 6.0 Marshmallow this early. Although, you never know. This update could merely be for bugs that launched with the device.

Once the soak test starts hitting devices, we should know exactly what Motorola is up to.

Anyone have their fingers crossed for Android 6.0?

Report: Samsung Working on Three Galaxy S7 Variants, Each Sports a Different Processor

Late last month, it was reported that to get out ahead of Apple, Samsung would announce the Galaxy S7 in late January, shooting for a launch in early February. This week, a new report from SamMobile states that Samsung may launch three variants of the device, each featuring a different processor.

As reported, each variation of the device will be marketed in different regions of the world. For India, the Galaxy S7 may feature a Exynos 7422 processor, while the European and South Korean model will use the in-house Exynos 8890 silicon. For North America, we might see the Galaxy S7 come with a Snapdragon 820 processor, which features the X12 LTE modem and updated 4K video capabilities.

Of course, we are still a few months away from 2016, so Samsung’s plan is likely not finalized. With that being said, I think the Exynos processor found in the Galaxy S6 is quite good and has held up well in the device. If Samsung opts to go back to Qualcomm for 2016, either way the Galaxy S7 is sure to perform well.

Are you hoping for Samsung to team up with Qualcomm for the next flagship?

HTC Hopes to Release Marshmallow OTA for One M8 GPE This Month

As tweeted earlier this week by Mo Versi, HTC will shoot to release its Android 6.0 “Marshmallow” update for the One M8 Google Play Edition (GPE) later this month, but is making no promises.

The update should not cause too much drama for HTC, as GPE devices run a stock build of Android, plus a few minor tweaks to incorporate any additional hardware built in by the OEM. In the case of the One M8, HTC has to get those dual rear-facing cameras working properly.

Versi tweets that while they are targeting for a release of an OTA this month, he will release additional information when launch is closer.

Are you rocking a One M8 GPE device? How has it treated you recently?

Facebook Testing Reactions, a Way to Express Your True Feelings

While it seems everyone may have wanted a “dislike button,” Facebook is instead launching Reactions, a way to better express your true feelings toward something you see on News Feed. The feature is now entering testing in Spain and Ireland, which will allow users to share their thoughts towards anything posted by a friend, publisher, advertiser, or business.

Facebook’s thought process behind the introduction of Reactions is that by allowing users to share more feelings than just a “like,” those who post things will be able to determine if their fans or friends like that type of content.

Our goal is to show you the stories that matter most to you in News Feed. Initially, just as we do when someone likes a post, if someone uses a Reaction, we will infer they want to see more of that type of post. We will spend time learning from this initial rollout and iterate based on findings in the future.

Facebook has not given a timeframe for when we in the US can expect this change, but they did state that they want to get the implementation right from the start.

Ready to share your true feelings with friends and family?

Verizon’s $20 Unlimited Price Hike: More Details About Who It Impacts

This morning, we reported on news that had been floating around our inbox for a good month or two, which was of a $20 price increase to Verizon’s grandfathered unlimited data plan to $49.99 per month. The news is unfortunate, of course, but also seems like something that could have happened a long, long time ago. Thanks to additional sources of ours, we now have even more details about the move and who it impacts.

As we mentioned earlier, the start date for this change is indeed November 15. On October 15, Verizon will begin notifying customers of the price increase and that they can choose to keep unlimited data with the price increase or switch to one of their new S/M/L/XL plans under The Verizon Plan. If you decide to keep unlimited, the increase in price will appear on your next bill after November 15.

The new increase currently only affects those who are out of contract. If you are still on-contract, the increase won’t arrive until your contract ends.

Why is Verizon making this change? It’s simple, they know that data usage is growing and so an increase in price reflects their “escalating costs to provide unlimited data.” Keep in mind that at $49.99, this is still technically truly unlimited, meaning Verizon isn’t throttling at anytime, unlike some of their competitors who have unlimited caps.

On a semi-positive note, this change does allow you to upgrade through Verizon’s device payment plan and not lose unlimited. Sure, you will then have a monthly device payment, plus the $20 increase in your unlimited data option, but you no longer have to fork out the full retail price up front.

Other notes:

  • Again, only unlimited data customers who are out of contract are affected at this time.
  • ECPD, CLEU and Government customers are not affected by the change.
  • If you have a really old plan, like a Legacy Alltel SmartChoice plan, where the unlimited data portion is built into the plan, you are also not affected.

So there you have it.

Verizon to Increase Unlimited Data Pricing by $20 in November

Verizon is about to increase the price of your unlimited data plan, assuming you have held onto it for all these years. According to sources of ours, your unlimited data plan will see a jump in price of $20 per month in November, which essentially makes it $49.99 per month instead of $29.99.

If you are still hanging on to unlimited data, expect notification from Verizon via bill insert or notification at some point this month (October). Depending on your contract status, you should then have 60 days to decide if you want to accept the increase or change to another plan. If you aren’t in a contract, then your $20 increase may start as early as November 15. And in case you were wondering, Verizon’s customer agreement does indeed say that they can “change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we’ll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service.”

According to at least one source, this new price hike does have one added bonus, which is the option to take advantage of Verizon’s device installment plan without losing your unlimited data. The idea here is that if you are willing to pay the extra $20 per month on your unlimited data plan, that you can then upgrade and keep your plan.

We’ll reach out to Verizon for comment and update this post if they respond.

You tell us – is a $20 increase in your unlimited data plan still worth it?
