NFL Game Pass Brings All Football Games On-Demand to Your Smartphone, But They’re Not Live

Professional sports and your local cable provider — the relationship is essentially built to screw the customer, unless you are willing to pay crazy money for a subscription to view all of the NFL’s telecasts live. Sure, a few games will be on the big stations like Fox and CBS, but if you happen to live in an out-of-market territory from your favorite team, forget about it.

With that being said, starting this upcoming season, the NFL is sort of getting with the times, bringing true, on-demand streams for all games, no matter where you are with Game Pass. Although, be aware of one major catch.

Game Pass brings all 256 regular season games directly to your smartphone or HDTV via connected set-top box, but the major issue is that these games will not be live. According to the Game Pass website, the only live games will be from the preseason, and those are about as important as a piece of bologna.

Still, if a viewer chooses that watching the game live is not a deal breaker, the ability to view the game in its entirety in HD, from anywhere in the US, is a bonus. Right now, no pricing has been announced for Game Pass, but non-live streaming of past football games can’t be that expensive, right?

And here I was, thinking I could start cutting my Comcast cords.

Deal: Buy a Samsung 4K TV, Get a Galaxy S6 Free

A current Galaxy S6 promotion through Samsung could land you a free phone after you purchase one of their 4K TVs. From now through August 1, if you buy select Samsung 4K TVs, you can fill out a short form through Samsung Promotions that will get you into a free 32GB Galaxy S6 on your carrier of choice.

At this time, Samsung is asking that you buy a TV under one of these model numbers – JS9500, JS9100, JS9000, JS8500, JS850D, or JS8600. If you plug those into Amazon, you get prices that range from $9,000 down to $1,500. If you are buying a $9,000 TV, I’d imagine that you could sneeze and buy a Galaxy S6 while your butler wipes your nose with gold plated tissue, but if you buy a $1,500 TV, a free $600 phone doesn’t sound like a terrible deal.

If you buy one of those TVs before August 1, you have until September 1 to redeem your free phone.

ZTE Launches 5.7″ Boost Max+ Onto Boost Mobile, Priced at $199 Off-Contract

This week, a new device is available from ZTE on Boost Mobile, called the Boost Max+. The Max+ features a 5.7″ HD IPS display, powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Available on Boost Mobile’s website for $200 off-contract, the phone also features a 8MP rear-facing camera, 16GB of onboard storage, LTE connectivity, 3,400mAh battery, and Android 5.1 out of the box.

As you can see in the header image above, the phone appears rather thin, although, on the frontside, we can also see capacitive keys made in the Kit Kat styling. With the phone launching with Android 5.1, keys made with updated Lollipop styling would have been a nice touch.

As of right now, the only color available appears to be the Champagne Gold model.

ZNAPS Racks Up $400K on Kickstarter in Days, Because Apparently People Don’t Mind Nubs Hanging Out of Their Phones

What happens when you love Apple’s MagSafe technology so much that you decide you must apply it to charging a phone? You get ZNAPS, a Kickstarter funded product that wants to make charging your phone easier than ever. It’s basically a MagSafe like charging plug that sits in the charging port of your phone, so that you can quickly charge a device without having to think about it or actually plug anything in.

The GIF above shows ZNAPS (Who comes up with these things?) best in action. As you can see, it’s like a 2-part system. One part is the plug that attaches to your phone at all times in order to make this at all worth while. The other part is an attachment that bridges your phone’s charging cable and the plug that is inserted into your phone. With plug inserted and ZNAPS attachment on the end of your cable, you can quickly, through magnets, charge your phone by flipping the charger any which way.

It’s kind of a cool idea, right? Clearly, a number of people think so, as the project kicked off last week and has already eclipsed the $400K funding mark. In case you were wondering, the ZNAPS team originally only asked for $94K to get started.

What are some other benefits?

It unplugs or plugs without any effort, since all is powered by magnets.
It adds a level of waterproofing to your charging port, since it seals with rubber.
Works with cases!
It has a charging indicator.
You can still transfer data through it to a computer.
The ZNAPS team says it supports Quick Charge 2.0.

The ZNAPS adapter can be bought for both Android and iPhones, costs “about” $9 for a single connector and adapter, and could ship by November of this year. If you would like to back this project, which is already fully funded and will move towards production, him up the source link below.

Latest Humble Bundle Snags You Metal Slug and Other NEOGEO Titles for a Few Bucks

Humbles Bundles, one of the best way to get loads of games for a great price, while also helping out charities, has been updated with new games this week. In this bundle, users can get hands-on with NEOGEO titles, including a few of the Metal Slug variety, for only a few dollars.

As of this moment, the average price, which is the price needed to be paid in order to get all of the games and all future games of the bundle, sits at just $4.54.

Beyond the three Metal Slug titles included, those who pay the average or more get Blazing Star, The King of Fighters ’97, and Samurai Shodown II.

Google+ Photos Begins Shutting Down on August 1

Because Google introduced Google Photos back at Google I/O as their only photo service going forward, they will begin shutting down all that once was Google+ Photos. On August 1, Google will kill the Google+ Photos app on Android (web and iOS thereafter) and recommend that you install the new Google Photos app should you want to continue using Google’s photo service.

Of course, even if you don’t switch over to Google Photos, all of your photos from Google+ Photos will live on the background until you decide to make the switch.

What about the photos you shared through Hangouts or Blogger? They will apparently still exist through Picasa. Seriously, Picasa.

Pebble Time is Now Available From Best Buy

If you had your sights set on the Pebble Time as your first/next smartwatch but missed out on the Kickstarter campaign, you can now head over to your local Best Buy or hit up Best Buy’s website and buy one. Priced at $199, you get a smartwatch with industry leading battery life, a color e-paper display, compatibility with Android and iOS (limited), and a unique user interface that differs from Android Wear and Apple Watch.

Best Buy has red, white, and black models available online, but you may want to check with your local store for specific color availability.

We reviewed the Pebble Time and found the battery life, user interface, water resistance and band to be quite lovely. On the other hand, the low-resolution display and childish (or cheap) design were a bit disappointing. If you are an Android user, this is a watch to consider if you need long battery life. If you are an iPhone owner, you should probably look elsewhere, as the functionality is quite limited on iOS.

ASUS ZenWatch Drops to $129 From $199 on Google Play

The ASUS ZenWatch, first released in November of last year, had its price slashed over on the Google Store this week, from its original $199 price to just $129. Featuring a 1.63” AMOLED display, Snapdragon 400 processor, and 1.4Wh battery, the ZenWatch is a solid Android Wear device, even allowing users to test their heart rate by holding the side of the device.

The $129 is a great price, just in case you needed more convincing, as the smartwatch is also priced at $149 on Amazon. So, Google has the best price for you. Although, you should know that the ZenWatch 2 has been announced, and should be available quite soon.

Adobe Updates Lightroom Android App, Cut and Paste Image Edits Included

An updated version of Lightroom is hitting Google Play from Adobe, bringing a solid list of new features, in addition to a very long list of bug fixes. For new features, Adobe added in the ability to edit images faster by copying previous adjustments, then simply pasting them onto new photos. This should save some time in the editing department, as long as your goal is the same edit for each photo.

On top of faster image editing, finding your favorite photos has been made easier, thanks to the new Segmented view in the Collections portion of the app. This view allows for a “different way to engage your photos,” meaning users can now save select photos to this section for quicker discovery.

This Inbox Swipe Gesture is One of My Favorite Little Things

For months, I’ve been using Google’s Inbox as my email app of choice. While I fully understand that this app or its approach to email is not for everyone, as someone who spent just as long with Mailbox before Inbox, I have fully embraced email clients that turn your inbox into a task manager. I actually feel like I get more done, respond to emails much quicker than in the past, and generally, find myself grunting and groaning far less when a new message appears. With that in mind, there are little things (like this and this and this) about Google’s Inbox that have helped make this my favorite email app.

One of those is this really subtle swipe gesture that gets you in and out of emails or bundles. You’ll see it in the GIF below, but basically, this gesture can be a natural extension of how you already use the app. For example, as you scroll through a long email, your thumb can simply continue that swipe up motion to get you out of the current email and back to the last screen (assuming you don’t feel like replying). Or, if you are scrolling through a list of bundled emails, the same idea applies – continue swiping up until it swipes you back to your main inbox.

The gesture also works if you swipe downward from the top of an email or the top of a bundle.

I love this gesture so much because it really is just an extension of a motion that you are already completing when using the app. You don’t have to think about it or switch swipe directions. It also allows you to avoid having to find your phone’s back button, since even in 2015, phone manufacturers can’t seem to settle on a damn arrangement (we’re mostly looking at you, Samsung).

This gesture was at one time in Google Play app listings where you were viewing descriptions and “What’s New” for apps, but Google seems to have removed it for whatever reason.

This is one of those little UX touches that really makes an app standout. I hope Google considers adding this to the standard Gmail client, brings it back to Google Play, and finds ways to integrate it into other apps as well.

Motorola Quietly Releases Moto Hint (2nd Gen), Better Battery Life and Improved Design for $130

Motorola has apparently been hard at work behind the scenes, designing and quietly launching an updated Moto Hint earpiece accessory. The Moto Hint is a little earbud, originally launched last year, that syncs up to your smartphone for placing and taking calls, delivering information hands-free (directions home and phone notifications), and the ability to send text messages without lifting a finger. According to its listing on Best Buy, the Moto Hint (2nd Gen) features Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR technology, an improved design for enhanced audio, in addition to advanced voice control. Most importantly, however, is Motorola’s claim right on the box of 70% more talk-time over the 1st Gen model.

As we can see in this shot of the updated retail packaging, Motorola has spruced it up a bit, highlighting new attributes of the device on the lower portion of the box.

Unlike the previous model that held a price of $149.99, the new Hint is priced at just $129.99. Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 and 8.0 With Impossibly Thin 5.6mm Frames

Samsung announced new flagship-level tablets this morning as the Galaxy Tab S2 in 9.7-inch and 8.0-inch variants. Each features gorgeous new Super AMOLED displays with resolutions of 2048×1536, octa-core processors, 3GB RAM, 8MP cameras, 32GB or 64GB of storage (with microSD support), Android 5.0 Lollipop, big batteries, and WiFi or LTE configurations. All of that is somehow housed in a body that is just 5.6mm thick.

According to the press release, these tablets product 94% of natural tones “to show true-to-life colors.” They also include fingerprint sensors, Samsung’s multitasking software, most of the software from the Galaxy S6 (like Smart Manager), and free 100GB of OneDrive storage for two years.

Samsung says to expect these tablets to hit global markets starting in August. No pricing was given.
