Waiting on Your Project Fi Invite? You May be Waiting Until Mid-Summer

If you were one of the first to send a request for an invitation to Project Fi, Google’s MVNO wireless service, and still have yet to be approved, your wait may be a tad bit longer than you had initially hoped.

In an update email sent out to everyone who wants to be a part of Project Fi, Google states that they have received a high number of requests, but need to assure folks will be met with a positive experience. Due to Google’s high standards, it may not be until “mid-summer” that everyone receives an invite.

Google also states that in the coming weeks, folks will be able to check the status of their invite, hopefully leading to less people checking their spam folders everyday to see if their invite somehow didn’t hit their inbox.

Below, you can view the email which is seeding out to those who requested an invite to Project Fi.

Are you one of the lucky ones to receive a SIM? How are you liking Project Fi?

Hello!

Thanks for requesting an invite to Project Fi. We’re really excited that you’re interested in trying our service! Over the past few weeks, we’ve been happy to bring the first customers onto Project Fi and the initial feedback has been very positive.

We’re sending invites as quickly as we can, while ensuring a high-quality experience. Given the number of requests we’ve received, we currently estimate that it will take until mid-summer to get to everyone.

In the coming weeks we’ll have a way for you to check the status of your invite – stay tuned for more information.

Thanks again for your interest in Project Fi. We’ll get you an invite as soon as we can!

–The Project Fi team

Hangouts for Chrome Updated With New UI, Works With Mac OSX

A fancy new version of Hangouts is available for Chrome, supporting a variety of OS users on Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, and even Mac OSX. From what we can see, the UI has been updated to match that of the Android look, but with a dedicated lefthand panel for your recent Hangout sessions.

According to one Google employee, users on anything but Mac OSX should disable the transparent mode under the settings menu. This should allow you to see all of the new stuff.

If you are already using this dedicated Hangouts app on Chrome, you can uninstall and then reinstall to see the changes if it has not yet already been pushed to you.

QuizUp Intros Big Social Update, Includes Tinder-Like Swiping Feature

QuizUp, that super fun quiz app you and your friends might have played for a while, but inevitably put down for a break like all of the other blockbuster games, just received a very large “social” update.

Inside, the developers have worked in what is essentially a social network. Now, you can select categories you are interested in through the app, then search for people around you who share those interests. Profile photos will then appear, and you can swipe through them until you find someone who you would like to challenge in a quiz. Personally, I can see many people attempting to use this feature to find a date. No, it’s not sad, it’s totally romantic.

There are also updated graphics and improved performance throughout the app.

If you want to give the latest update a try, grab it from Google Play right now.

Game of Thrones Episode 4: Sons of Winter Hits Google Play Next Week

Episode 4: Sons of Winter for Telltale’s Game of Thrones saga is set to release for Android devices on May 28. If you happen to play on another platform, such as Xbox One, you can expect release on May 27.

In this episode, the Forresters are scattered, and no one with allegiance to the family is safe. Up by the Wall, Gared must take a trip North in search of the North Grove. Unfortunately, he may run into a few Wildlings or worse. Down south in King’s Landing, Mira is trying to tread lightly in a very complex game of politics and secrets. Of course, Daenerys Targaryen is also in Episode 4, doing her thing in Essos.

Episode 4 will be available beginning May 28 in Google Play. And remember, Winter is coming!

Below, read the full description of what’s taking place in Telltale’s rendition of Game of Thrones.

In Episode 4, the fate of the scattered Forresters hangs in the balance, and no one allied with the family is safe. An unexpected meeting offers Rodrik a new opportunity to free Ironrath from its Whitehill stranglehold, but with young Ryon Forrester still held prisoner, his next moves are critical. Gared must abandon Castle Black and venture beyond the Wall in search of the mysterious North Grove, risking encounters with Wildlings and worse. In King’s Landing, the population is reeling from a recent royal death, and Mira must step carefully in an increasingly complex game of politics where secrets are traded as currency. Far away in Essos, Asher infiltrates the slave city of Meereen at the behest of Daenerys Targaryen, but will the friendship he holds dear break under the strain of a mission that raises memories best forgotten?

Below, you can see HTC Mail’s large list of features, and if you own a compatible phone (like a One M9, for example), go grab the app on Google Play.

“Ok Google, Shazam This Track” Right From Your Android Wear Smartwatch

Android Wear users who need to quickly discover music can now do so right from their wrist, thanks to an update in the official Shazam app on Google Play.

The next time your phone is paired with an Android Wear watch, simply say, “Ok Google, Shazam this song,” then wait for the results. Shazam will use your watch’s built-in mic to listen to the track, then display all necessary information right there on your wrist.

In addition to track information, if you swipe right after receiving your results, lyrics will be placed on your smartwatch, allowing for a quick singing session. We all know you have a beautiful singing voice.

To utilize this new feature, grab the updated Shazam app from Google Play.

Sling TV Arrives for Android TV, Buy a Nexus Player for 50% Off When You Pre-Pay for 3 Months of Service

Sling TV, the online TV streaming service, now works with your Android TV. To celebrate, Sling is offering 50% off a Nexus Player purchase for new customers who pre-pay for 3 months of Sling TV service. Already own a Nexus Player? Sling TV is gifting you a free week of trial service, hoping you will cut the cord to your current provider at the end of the week.

Sling TV’s list of compatible devices continues to grow, currently available on the Xbox One, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android devices, iOS devices, and more. With Android TV now in the works, and with that OS being built directly into new TV sets from major manufacturers (and plenty new set-top boxes on the way), Sling TV may soon become a legitimate option for those who truly wish to cut ties from Comcast or Time Warner. Unfortunately, after looking at Sling TV’s channel lineup, those who enjoy many live sports may be left disappointed. Sure, you can watch the NBA Finals and ESPN channels, but many games will likely go missed.

If you are already a member of Sling TV, and have an Android TV device, head on over to Google Play and grab the updated app.

Do you have Sling? What do you like and what don’t you like about it?

Report: Google to Introduce New “Internet of Things” Software at I/O to Take Over Your Home

Next week, Google will debut a new software at next week’s Google I/O that the search giant hopes will eventually take over your home, according to a report out of The Information. The Internet of Things (IoT), as we call it, is a smart world around us where everything is connected, from appliances to sprinklers to security systems to your bed. Developing a platform for developers to easily get into IoT is Google’s next big move.

According to this report, Google will introduce a software or platform that is currently operating under the codename “Brillo.” While we still aren’t sure if this is Android-based, the group working on Brillo reportedly falls under the Android group, so the chances there are pretty likely. This technology is said to require as little as 64 or 32MB of RAM to work, so we are talking about low-powered electronics, the kind you would find in a world of connected everything.

The point here is for Google to give developers a platform to create products on and quickly advance IoT before someone like Microsoft or Samsung can. Like Android in a way, Google could essentially give smart electronics makers free entry into the Internet of Things without having to develop much of their own software. This would also allow more manufacturers of smart products to get into the game with Google.

The initial release of Brillo will reportedly be focused on the devices made for your home and should be able to connect with Google’s Nest products.

Google tried to get into the smart home years ago with Android@Home, but it failed to catch on or may have been ahead of its time. This new Brillo project sounds like Google is buying back into it. That’s a smart move, especially since the entire electronics industry is gearing up for an IoT battle.

Still Not Surprised: Saygus has Once Again Delayed the “World’s Most Advanced Smartphone”

The Saygus V2 has been delayed once again. You still shouldn’t be surprised by this. We have been telling you to expect this over and over agin. In fact, we asked you when pre-orders opened if you wanted to bet on whether or not this thing would ship in the 6-8 week timeframe that was originally given. No one should have taken that bet, because it was a sucker bet. A company like this (newish, inexperienced, and who is clearly overpromising to excite a small customer base), who is attempting to take a barely working phone to polished retail unit that’s delivered to the masses in two or three months, is setting itself up for failure. Hell, even large companies who actually know what they are doing would struggle with that tight of a window.

So yeah, after missing their March shipping date, then emphatically declaring that May 22 would be the official shipping date, Saygus is once again delaying the release of a phone they continue to call the “world’s most advanced smartphone.” This time, they don’t even have an estimate as to when this little guy will begin to ship. I guess they learned after missing two shipping dates that you should stop with the promises.

If you are/were a Saygus pre-orderee, you could see this coming. Email communication from the company went silent after they missed that March deadline and told us all to expect the phone on May 22. Within the last week, they started spamming us again with short messages meant to show they are working hard and that things are moving along, but never once did they mention that May 22 was still looking realistic. They have a new website, though! And are planning a big marketing campaign for June! Of course, those who pre-ordered don’t give a sh*t about a website or marketing campaign, because they have already spent money on a phone that is clearly not even close to shipping.

One of the emails talked about how excited the company was to begin shipping. Another listed out about 100 countries and the cost to ship to each. Then yesterday, after you had all left work for the day and disconnected from email, Saygus announced that they were “ambitious” in this venture and that they have an update on progress, which of course means they are about to tell you that there is another delay.

According to Saygus, the phones are on the manufacturing line, but won’t ship on time. Of course, that seems like a stretch and lie when you read the next couple of sentences, mentioning that they still need to finalize some quality assurance and do network testing. Seriously, they still need to do network testing. The full email is below for those interested.

Dear V-Squared Customer,

As you know, the Saygus team has created the world’s most advanced smartphone and we are ambitious in this venture. We know our customers around the world are excited to receive the V-squared, and we wanted to provide you with an update on the progress.

The phones are on the manufacturing line, but will not be ready to ship globally on May 22 as we had planned. We just concluded a review of the status of all critical factors in preparation for shipment. We still need to finalize some quality assurance and network testing so when we put the V-Squared in your hands (which will be soon), it will be the phone of your dreams.

Saygus is dedicated to delivering the highest-quality smartphone.

Thank you very much for your continued patience. We will update you with more information as soon as available.

Best regards,
The Saygus Team

Good times.
