Don’t Miss These Android Stories: May 15, 2015

It was a big week here at DL, and with Google I/O coming right up, it’s only going to get more crazy. This week, we posted up our full LG G4 review, plus did a full unboxing and hands-on with Kellen’s fancy new Apple Watch wrist contraption. I think we’ve lost to the Dark side, folks.

In addition to that excitement, we learned LG is giving away a nice little list of goodies away to buyers of the G4, Samsung’s “Iron Man” Galaxy S6 Edge is real and is coming, and Verizon is going to buy AOL for $4.4 billion. You know, because AOL is worth that much.

Below, you will find the list of this week’s top Android and mobile-related stories. Trust us, they’re all mucho important.

Have a great weekend, folks! Go Warriors and go Clippers!

Adult Swim Publishes Tofu Hunter to Google Play, Shoot Down Herds of Adorable Tofu

In the latest game from Adult Swim, you are tasked with hunting and killing tofu. The game is called Tofu Hunter, which is basically a joke on the variety of Deer Hunter-like games available everywhere. In Tofu Hunter, you purchase a wide range of weapons to take down as many tofu critters as possible.

The game features special tofu animals that will give you bonus points should you hit them, and also gives you a bonus when you spare tofu does. Different levels requite different guns. If your quota is not very high, you can take a high-powered rifle, or if you need to bag 50 tofu animals, you can take an assault rifle.

To me, the game is all about being an over-the-top hunter of sorts, even though you are hunting animals that don’t actually exist. They put cute, adorable little faces on the bouncing tofu, expecting you to be a complete animal and murder them all without thinking twice. It’s an odd game, but it plays very well.

Tofu Hunter is free to download from Google Play, but does feature IAPs which will help unlock guns and special attachments.

Google’s “Designed for Families” Reported to Launch at Google I/O

According to a reported email from Google to app developers, the company may soon release its kid-friendly, family-focused version of Google Play during this year’s Google I/O. Previously announced by Google back in mid April, Designed for Families helps curate content made for children and families, such as games and educational applications.

Developers are asked to make their submissions for the program before May 28, which is also the keynote day at Google I/O. This leads a few people to believe that Google will highlight this program during I/O.

As Google heightens its control over Google Play, and the apps found in the store, it is a good thing that they would want to add a special place for kids and families to find dedicated apps for learning and entertainment.

Do we have a few parents here? Shall you be showing this to your kids as soon as it is released?

CBS All Access, FOX NOW, HGTV, and More Apps Now Support Chromecast

A few new apps are supporting Chromecast this week, bringing even more content to cord cutters who utilizes Google’s HDMI dongle. The apps with newly added casting support are CBS All Access, FOX NOW, HGTV, Pluto TV, FXNOW, and Haystack.

CBS, FOX, HGTV, and FXNOW are all TV shows that you can stream, but Pluto TV is a service which curates over 100 channels of news, music, sports, web and TV shows into a single app. And for anyone unfamiliar with Haystack, it is a news app that picks up on your interests and shows you the happenings from around the globe.

If you want to start casting these apps straight to your HDTV, grab them from Google Play by following the links below.

Noodlecake Launches Sunburn! to Google Play, Gather Your Crew and Jump Into the Sun

Your crew is stranded in space, scattered along neighboring planets. You are the commanding officer of this failed mission, and it is up to you to gather your crew using a jetpack, and then fly everyone into the Sun. What a graceful death that would be. This is the story of Sunburn!, the latest title from Noodlecake Studios to hit Google Play.

To scoop up your team members, you press on two sides of the display, powering your jetpack. Once you are away from a planet’s gravitational influence, you can steer yourself using maneuvering thrusters. Once on a planet, simply walk around to collect your crew, then launch yourself into the Sun.

Featuring 50+ puzzles for you to solve, coupled with very atmospheric music, the game reminds me a lot of Gravity, minus the flying into the Sun part.

The game costs $3 to start, but after that, there are no ads and no IAPs. I’m marking this game as a “Tato Top Pick.”

Samsung Teases ‘Iron Man’ Galaxy S6 Edge on Twitter

Today, Samsung is making that rumored “Iron Man” edition of the Galaxy S6 Edge very official through Twitter. Previously written up, but with no official images to include, Samsung provides a look at the upcoming retail box for the device, and seriously, it looks pretty sweet.

The frontside of the packaging includes the Iron Man helmet, and inside, well, we’re guessing the phone is in there. At this time, there are no official images for the device itself, but this previous render is said to be pretty close to what customers can expect.

According to Samsung, the device will be limited to select markets in select regions, naturally. This means, the phone will likely not be very easy to come by, should you live overseas. However, Samsung has yet to give official pricing and details.

At first, I thought this phone might be for true comic book fans, but now that I see the box, I want it. Anyone else interested?
