If you’ve been waiting for your very own Project Tango (and you already have an invitation), now is your time to make your move. The formerly $1024 tablet that performs real-time 3D spatial mapping is now only $512. The price has been effectively cut in half to bring it more in line with most developers’ budgets.
This news comes from emails sent out to those who are holding on to Project Tango invites, but have not yet purchased a device. The email went on to say that the reason for the price drop is to encourage first-round developers to purchase the device before it is made available to more people. So if you find yourself wanting a Tango Tablet, be patient for just a little longer, and you will finally get yours soon.

There are a number of reasons why you might buy an Android TV device like the Nexus Player. Some of the benefits include the ability to have an android platform on your home TV, the ability to sync media like your music, games and movies and the ability to play android games on a much bigger screen. However, there are also a number of reasons as to what you might want to wait before picking up an Android TV device.
One of the biggest reasons that you might opt to wait is the infancy of the platform. We have already reported how the availability of compatible apps is limited, with only a small amount of apps being ported over to work on Android TV devices. Well, a prime example of one of the type of apps which is missing suitable compatibility is web browsers. Even Google’s Chrome has not yet been optimised to work on Android TV. Of course, you can simply sideload a browser app like Chrome to your Nexus Player. However, the lack of compatibility means it will be limited in a number of respects. Not to mention, likely to be unstable and buggy resulting in stalls and force crashes. Well, this week saw a new app being released specifically for Android TV.
‘Web Browser for Android TV’ is exactly that, a web browser for Android TV. As its functionality is designed to work on the big screen, it won’t be a surprise to learn that it does work better than the other side loaded alternatives. That said, it is still not the easiest app to navigate. Web Browser does allow for basic navigation of the internet and does employ the use of mobile and desktop websites. The app also supports video playback, as well as being able to store favorites and backtrack through your history.
The app also works reasonably well with the remote control, GamePad and the Remote Control App with a movable mouse cursor which is present on the screen.
However, after first downloading, the URL bar only seems to accept the Remote Control App as a means of input, as default. Therefore, when you try to navigate to the address bar with either the physical remote control or GamePad, you are prompted to “use phone keyboard to enter text” as default.
There is a couple of ways to circumvent this issue though. The first is to simply download the app. Once you do, the navigation is fine and all text can be inputted. What’s more, is that a neat workaround (if you do not want to keep using your phone as the remote control) is to use the phone control to go to Google. Once there, bookmark the page. From then on, Google will appear on your homescreen and this can be clicked through using the physical remote control and GamePad. Once you make you way to Google from then on, the Google search bar will automatically activate the onscreen keyboard.
Alternatively, if you head up to the menu in the right-hand corner and click on “Settings”, there is an option there to activate the “Soft keyboard” which will then allow direct interaction with the URL using the physical remote control and GamePad.
Otherwise, if you have been waiting for a better web browser than the sideloaded options then maybe you will want to give this one a try. Until Chrome becomes more naturally compatible with Android TV, this might be your best option. If you are interested in giving this third party option a try, then hit the link below.

Chromebooks, I feel, are still a niche product. While I love the concept, and love many models of the Chromebook that I’ve been able to review, it still has not replaced my laptop. The biggest reason? Photo editing. I use Adobe Lightroom to edit all the pictures I take for the site, and I take anywhere from 1-20 or more for the site each day. It all depends on what news breaks or reviews I’m working on. So not having a good multiple-photo editor on Chrome OS has kept me from using a Chromebook full time. I’ve been using the Acer Chromebook 15 for the past couple of weeks and absolutely love it. You’re going to find out why in our review in just a few minutes.
Chromebooks are basically a netbook, that can run Chrome. And nothing else. Think of an operating system that runs just a browser. And that’s what a Chromebook is. They’ve come a long way in the past few years, and now we have Chromebooks are just about every price point from $199 to $499. Then there’s a big gap before you get to the Chromebook Pixel LS from Google, which is going for $999.
Since this is a Chromebook review, the hardware section is going to be the majority of the review. Seeing as the software is the same on every Chromebook. Acer has basically taken their 11.6-inch form factor and made it bigger for their Chromebook 13, and made that even bigger for this Chromebook 15. When you open up the Chromebook, you are greeted with a beautiful 15.6-inch Full HD 1920×1080 resolution display, as well as a keyboard that is centered, with speakers on either side. There’s also a nice big trackpad, that works better than ever.
While the trackpad on other Chromebooks have worked well, it seems like this trackpad works even better. Scrolling is buttery smooth on it, all the gestures work perfectly. The keyboard takes a little getting used to, especially if you’re used to a smaller laptop like a 13-inch Macbook Pro, which is what I use everyday. Those keys are closer to the edge of the device, so on the Chromebook 15 it took a bit to get used to the change. After that, the keyboard works great. As usual with Chromebooks, the F-row has been replaced with an ESC key followed by back, forward, refresh, full screen, tab switcher, brightness toggles, volume toggles and a power key. The caps lock is also a search key now. Also, and probably obviously, when compared to a Windows keyboard, the Windows key is gone. Like I said, obviously, right?
The speakers are in-ward facing, and they sound amazing. Now they aren’t going to compete with the BoomSound on the HTC One M9. But for a Chromebook, or better yet, for a laptop. The speakers are pretty great. I didn’t have any complaints after watch movies and countless YouTube videos on this Chromebook. Compared to Acer’s other Chromebooks, it’s a whole lot better sound coming out of these speakers.
Acer decided to go ahead and throw in a 1080p display here. And thank goodness they did. We’ve been seeing 1366 x 768 displays at 11 and 13 inches for quite some time. It’s nice to finally see it jump to a 1080p display. Especially in a world where our smartphones have 2560 x 1440 resolution displays. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it definitely does look pretty good.
On the outside of the Acer Chromebook 15 we have a power slot, HDMI port, USB 3.0 and headphone jack on the left side. Over on the right there’s a Kensington lock port, as well as a USB 2.0, and full-size SD card slot. On the back and bottom, we have vents to keep your Chromebook 15 from getting warm. On the front, above the display is the webcam. Which is pretty decent. It’s not going to give you 4K video or anything, but for a built-in webcam, it’s not bad at all.
On this Chromebook 15, we have an Intel Celeron 3205U dual-core 1.50GHz processor, which is built on the Broadwell micro-architecture. So it is one of the latest chips. It’s paired with 4GB of RAM in our review model – although it’s also available in 2GB models, which will be cheaper obviously. We’ve used the Chromebook 15 for watching videos, web surfing, and everything in between. I typically have about 10-15 tabs open and no issues with lag or pages reloading. Which you’d see with a 2GB of RAM model, unfortunately. Everything is pretty snappy as far as performance goes here. It’s not an Intel Core i3, but I’m not so sure you need that much power for a Chromebook. However, I could be wrong.
This is something that Chromebooks have always had over Windows laptops. A big reason for that is what Windows has going in the background when compared to a Chromebook. Acer touts that the Chromebook 15 will last about 9 hours on a charge. In our real world testing, we’ve found that it can last longer. However, that does depend on what you’re doing. I keep the Chromebook 15 brightness right in the middle. On Monday, I used it as my work computer which included an hour long video call on Hangouts, as well as writing articles on the site, sending emails, checking Google+, Twitter, Facebook and others. It lasted me about 10 hours. If it weren’t for the hour long video Hangout, it probably could have lasted a bit more. But I’m still satisfied with 10 hours. Compared to a Windows laptop, that’s a mind-blowing number. I have a HP Pavilion laptop here running Windows 8.1 and it’s lucky to get about 3 hours, and it was touted as getting 7-8 hours.
We have Chrome OS here on the Acer Chromebook 15. As expected, it’s not that different compared to another Chromebook. However, Chrome OS seems to be a bit nicer on this larger display. Especially the taskbar at the bottom where you can pin more apps. It’s also nice to have even more space to do work. Like we mentioned in the performance section, Chrome OS runs great on this machine with 4GB of RAM.
If you’re looking for a larger Chromebook, that has plenty of power and under $500. Then look no further. However, if you want a slightly smaller one – say 13-inches – you have a few other options. In fact there’s one from Acer, Toshiba and even Google in the Chromebook Pixel LS. The Chromebook 15 is a bit bulky and too big for our tastes, but that doesn’t mean it’s too big for yours.

Xiaomi is an interesting company and one who is certainly making a lot of waves within the android world and smartphone world, in general. Although, a number of their products are largely only available in certain markets, primarily, China, nothing can be taken away from how extensive their product portfolio is. Xiaomi offers a large number of products and all at a knockdown price compared to many of the other larger companies. This is one of the reasons why the company has quickly risen to become the largest android manufacturer in China and actually, the third largest in the world.
In fact, their products range as well as being large is also quite eclectic with the company branching out continuously into new markets. More recently, there has been somewhat of a focus by Xiaomi on the intent of things (IoT) and home connected devices. As such, you can now find XIaomi branded TV’s, smart bulbs and even air purifiers. What’s more, it seems there currently operating markets are extremely hungry for their products. It was only a few days ago that the company held their now-annual Mi Fan Festival 12 hour sale. The results of that sale saw the company break all records and amass significant sales which totaled 2.12 million smartphones alone. Remember, that was just during a sales period of twelve hours. In addition, the company managed to pull in more than a million accessory sales within the same period.
Well, there has been noise coming from Xiaomi news that the company is planning a launch event on April 23rd with a possible new product line. To add to the growing speculation, a new teaser has now emerged from Xiaomi suggesting something new might be coming sooner than the 23rd. In fact, on April 15th. The teaser image (shown below) states the date and seems to play on the notion of direction. The image seems to show a reference to ‘North’ and ‘South’. What’s more, reports have already picked up on the fact that one of the bottom listed partners is Ninebot, who makes products including a personal transportation robot. Therefore, the suggestion being made is that this quite possibly could be a GPS or navigation-based device. Either way, with the 15th only a few days away, it won’t be that long before all is revealed.

According to a report published by The Wall Street Journal earlier today, Google has a group of researchers working on future battery technology for use in its upcoming devices. The team of four reportedly got together in late 2012, with former Apple battery expert Dr. Ramesh Bhardwaj at the helm.
The publication states that the team “first started testing batteries developed by other companies for use in Google devices, but about a year later expanded to plan battery technologies that Google might develop.”
Now it seems that the team are “trying to advance current lithium-ion technology and the cutting-edge solid-state batteries for consumer devices, such as Glass and Google’s glucose-measuring contact lens.”
It comes as no surprise that Google is working hard to try and make a breakthrough with future battery technology. After all, its the Nexus range of smartphones and tablets that’s often slated in the media for having very poor battery life.

Mlais is one of many smartphone manufacturers from Asia. This company is actually based in Hong Kong, and their warehouses are located in Shenzen. Mlais isn’t exactly the most popular smartphone OEM in Asia, this is a young company and they’ve released only a couple of devices thus far. That being said, they’re constantly working on releasing new products and updating their already released offerings. Mlais has recently released the M4 Note handset, if you’d like to know more about that device, visit this article.
We’re not here to talk about the M4 Note though, but about another device Mlais has released a while back, the M52. This is a mid-range device which is running Android 4.4 KitKat, but that will change soon. The company has announced that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Mlais M52 will land on April 15. They’ve also said that more information will be provided on their official Facebook page, and we’ll do our best to report back if any new developments occur.
The Mlais M52 handset features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. This device is powered by MediaTek’s MT6752 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz which ships with a Mali-T760 GPU for graphics. The 13-megapixel camera is located on the back of this device, and an 8-megapixel snapper can be found on the M52’s front side. 3,200mAh battery ships with this handset, and Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with a couple of features added by the company. 4G LTE connectivity is also a part of this package, same can be said for the usual array of smartphone sensors.
There you have it folks, the Android Lollipop update will land on Mlais M52 really soon. This handset can be bought from a range of Mlais’ partners which can ship this handset all over the world, like GearBest and 1949deal for example. The device is priced at $159.99 and available in Blue, Black, Peach Red and White color options. If you’d like to purchase one for yourself, visit this link which will take you to the list of Mlais’ official partners.
