Additional Xiaomi Mi 4i Info Leaks, The Device Might Feature A 5″ 1080p Display And A 13MP Camera
Xiaomi has already launched quite a few new devices in 2015, but the company doesn’t show any signs of stopping now. This China-based smartphone OEM has already teased two new announcements on April 15 and April 23. The Xiaomi Mi 4i has already surfaced yesterday in Singapore’s IDA database and Geekbench website. That information said that this device will be a lower-end version of the Xiaomi Mi 4, and that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 615 SoC and sport 2GB of RAM. This device is expected to be released on April 23, and we have some new information to share with you.
Last month, a mysterious Xiaomi “Ferrari” handset popped up on GFXBench website, and according to new info from China, this is the Xiaomi Mi 4i that we’ve talked about yesterday. It makes sense because both of those devices are said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processors and sport 2GB of RAM. In addition to all that, this device is expected to feature a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, quite probably the same panel that was used in the original Mi 4. The device will ship with 16GB of internal storage and a 13-megapixel camera on the back. LED flash was also mentioned in the GFXBench listing, along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop will come pre-installed on this device with Xiaomi’s MIUI on top of Google’s operating system. 4G LTE connectivity is also expected here, and a dual SIM connectivity is also a possibility, but we’ll see. As you can see, we’re looking at a mid-range offering by Xiaomi here, as expected.
According to yesterday’s information, this handset will launch in India first. As far as the design goes, this handset might look identical to Xiaomi Mi 4, though we can’t confirm that just yet. We still don’t know the price of this device either, but it’s expected to cost less than 1,500 Yuan ($241). This announcement is less than 10 days away, but we’ll probably get some additional leaks to share with you before Xiaomi actually announces this handset, so stay tuned for that.

The new Asus VivoWatch offers fitness tracking and 10 days of battery life
Asus has unveiled their newest VivoWatch (that’s actually not part of the Zen family of devices) that’s focused on fitness tracking. The watch is water and dust resistant, offers a heart rate monitor and several other health services, and features a stainless steel frame. Asus is also making a pretty bold claim with this watch, saying it will last 10 days on a single charge.
Other details are pretty scarce about the device, such as pricing and how Asus is going to squeeze that much battery life out of the this thing. We do know that it won’t be an Android Wear device, so maybe Asus has their own extremely power-efficient software on the VivoWatch to keep it going. It’s supposedly going on sale later this year, so we should hear more sooner rather than later.

Android 5.1 OTA now officially available for Nexus 4
If you’re still using a Nexus 4, Google appears to finally be updating the device to the latest version of Android. The 5.1 Lollipop update is rolling out OTA, although the factory image is still MIA.
Fortunately, installing the OTA file on your device isn’t too hard, and we’ve got a solid guide to get you up and running if you don’t want to wait for the update to hit your device.
If you don’t mind being a little patient, though, the notification should hit your device pretty soon.

Cyanogen OS 12 For The OnePlus One Is Now Live And The OTA Has Begun
If you are a OnePlus One owner, then you probably have been quite frustrated with the wait that has never seemed to end, when it comes to Android 5.0 (Lollipop). In spite of owning, what is essentially a carrier-free device, the wait for Lollipop has taken a long time to reach the One. This is in spite of two very clear Lollipop based OSes being developed for the device. Of course, that did all change when last week (roughly), the OnePlus homegrown OS, OxygenOS was released.
That said, the OS many OnePlus One owners would have been waiting for, is the follow-up to Cyanogen OS 11, aka CM11S. The Cyanogen Based Lollipop OS, Cyanogen OS 12 has taken even longer than anyone expected (seemingly including Cyanogen) to arrive. Partly due to the Google Certification process but also due to the inclusion of many new features and so forth. Well, this morning, Carl Pei of OnePlus did state that he was 75% sure that the roll out for Cyanogen OS 12 would begin today. Well, it has.
Cyanogen have just announced that Cyanogen OS 12 is now officially in rollout status for the OnePlus One. The details of the announcement did not provide any detailed descriptions of what to expect, although they do mention the inclusion of Boxer as the default email client. Other than that the only other direct mention was of the App Themer feature which was hinted at a few weeks ago. In terms of the actual download, there is no direct link (as of yet) and instead and unlike OxygenOS, this is an OTA rollout so you will need to be hitting that update button to get hold of your update. If you are already running OxygenOS then you will need to revert back to Cyanogen OS 11 to be able to receive the OTA. Alternatively, hold on for when a direct and flashable download becomes available. It is probably only a matter of time before the download is made available for sideloading. Either way, Cyanogen OS 12 for the OnePlus One is now officially here. If you own a OnePlus One, check your updates.

Google’s Android One program hasn’t had a major impact on emerging markets
Google initially launched their ambitious Android One program to get low cost devices in the hands of as many people as possible in emerging markets, all while securing the smartphone and tablet market with Google services. Unfortunately, it looks like Android One hasn’t quite gotten the results Google was expecting.
Android One definitely hasn’t been a failure, but devices shipped by local manufacturers haven’t really caught fire as far as sales go. Among those manufacturers, and some of the bigger OEMs that jumped on board with low-cost program, interest has dipped quite a bit from when it was announced.
Android One launched right on the cusp of device prices falling out. Google wanted to introduce tons of devices that were easily purchased for less than $100 without any kinds of contracts, but it’s not tough to find quality sub-$100 devices from other devices anymore. While Android One devices are much more likely to stay updated, that’s not a big enough selling point for many customers.
Even if Android One numbers aren’t doing exceptionally well, the program does fit into Google’s bigger plan to get as many as people as possible connected to the internet and, hopefully, using Google services and seeing Google-served ads. It’ll be interesting to see how much attention Google gives Android One going forward, though.

The Moto 360 Gets A Price Drop, Now Only Costs $165 Via The Google Store
This afternoon, for some unknown reason, Google decided to drop the price of the Moto 360 to $165 from $249 on the Google Store. This is a huge price cut for such a popular and well-selling device. That and the fact that it came out of nowhere almost certainly tells us that there is something amiss over at Motorola, or perhaps Google just wanted to give everyone a good deal on one of the most popular smartwatches out there.
When you head over to the Google Store you will be able to grab a Moto 360 in either black-on-black or silver with a stone strap for only $165. So, why is this? Why did Google decide to cut the price of the Moto 360 by so much? The most sensible explanation is because Motorola is preparing to release the second iteration of the Moto 360. It was not too long ago that CEO of Lenovo, which now owns Motorola, accidentally leaked an image of what appeared to be the upcoming iteration of the Moto 360. Said leaked image did not only show what could be the next smartwatch from Motorola, but it also showed an assortment of interchangeable watch straps. This, telling us that the next Moto 360 will quite possibly offer a higher level of customization.
Having said all of this, if you do not want to or maybe just don’t have the patience to wait for the next iteration of the Moto 360, is grabbing one of the current Moto 360’s from the Google Store your best choice? It quite possibly could be, but Best Buy also has a pretty enticing offer for the Moto 360 at the moment. If you purchase a Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge or an HTC One M9 from Best Buy, you can get a Moto 360 for $100 off. That means that you would be getting a brand new Moto 360 for $149, ever so slightly cheaper than you could on the Google Store at $165. However, like we said, to take advantage of the Best Buy offer you will have to purchase a new flagship smartphone as well, which might make more sense only if you’re already planning on upgrading to a new device. Either way, it’s great to see Motorola’s smartwatch get a substantial price cut, possibly right before its next iteration is released.

Alleged Images Leak Of Huawei P8 And P8 Lite Cases Showing Off Possible Design
We expect Huawei to announce the P8 and the P8 Lite just two days from now during an event that will take place in London and that is actually streaming live. There have been a lot of teasers highlighting some of the phone’s capabilities and also numerous leaks, including pictures and possible specifications, so the phones won’t come up as much of a surprise. Now, there’s been a new leak of the cases for the Huawei P8 and the Huawei P8 Lite.
The one regarding the Huawei P8 shows the actual case for the phone, so we can have an idea of how the overall design will end up looking. What makes it look like it belongs to the company’s new flagship and not the Lite version is the large cutout in the back below the one for the camera, which is supposed to be for a fingerprint sensor located in that position. On the top, some cutouts can be seen for what we assume to be the headphone jack and a microphone or an IR port to control some appliances like TVs. On the bottom, there are three cutouts, two of them will most likely be for the speakers and the one in the middle will be where the micro-USB port is located. Some rumors even suggest that the phone will use the new reversible port with the USB Type C standard. Keep in mind that the final device may not look like the depicted one in the cardboard illustration, at least that’s what the leaked renders suggest.
The leak about the P8 Lite illustrates how the device will look like with the clear case rather than showing the case itself. The design seems to be almost identical to the one of the former phone with the same cutouts similarly located, except for the one of the fingerprint sensor, a feature that is supposed to be absent on this phone. Then again, the illustrations don’t match what we’ve seen of the phone, the back being what changes the most, because the renders and the images we saw in some certifications seem to have a metal back with another material around the camera.

Rumor: Google’s MVNO Service Could Be Called Project Fi
New details have seemingly shown up for Google’s upcoming wireless service, which may highlight what people can possibly expect the search company to offer when things go live for consumers later this year. Up until now, everything about Google’s MVNO has been mostly scarce, although Google had mentioned that it would finally be coming, and there have been rumors about them being in talks with Three UK to offer free international roaming. Prior to the statements about the service from Sundar Pichai last month, the idea of a Google wireless service was only a rumor. Now that it’s somewhat official the rumors have moved onto other aspects of the service, like how it will work and what it will cost, where it will launch, and what it will be called.
New details that have shown up which could point to the upcoming cell service from Google include a potential name for the service, which could just be something being used internally or it could be a final name, as well as an icon for the app that could be for the service in question. There are also some pieces of information about what the service will offer, and about how users will interact with the service from their devices, much like those on T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless have apps to view and manage their accounts. Most of these details come from an app that had shown up in an unofficial firmware image for the Nexus 6, and the app’s name is Project Fi.
Within the Project Fi application there are reportedly strings of code that mention or refer to the service as Project Fi, and devices that run on the service are referred to as Project Fi phones, so this may be the final name of the Google Wireless service when it launches, but it’s possible it could change when and things are finalized. You can see an image of the app icon posted below, which takes on the Material Design like style we see in many of Google’s icons for existing apps. Also within the app, it appears that users (Project Fi customers as we’ll call them for now) would have the ability to activate service, transfer numbers, cancel service, put it on hold, and resume service on cancelled or “on hold” accounts all from the application which would make managing your account extremely simple, and almost eliminating any need to speak with a customer service rep to do these actions, which in most cases is what you have to do now for many carriers. It also appears that Google’s MVNO service would potentially have options for auto pay, and alert customers to upcoming billing statements while also giving them options to pay for their service. It isn’t mentioned anywhere, but it wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary to see Google Wallet be an option for one of the payment methods.
There are also details about the service itself and what it could potentially offer to customers, including how the plans may be broken down and what they offer, how customers will acquire phones, and how the service will work. When it comes to the service, Project Fi seems to work on a usage amount basis. Basically, it could be that the service will charge customers for what they use only, so even if the plan they sign up on costs a certain amount, if they use less than what their plan allows then they could end up getting credited that amount back. It appears that Google will have plans that start with just talk and text, and then allow customers to add on data separately in the amounts that they want. It also appears that Google will offer some sort of carrier billing for added features or services, like app downloads, or possibly other small purchases. Project Fi also looks to offer not only single line offerings but also plans for multiple lines and shared account data, with each additional line past the initial one adding to the cost of the plan based on what they use.
What seems a bit more interesting is that Project Fi may afford users the ability to switch their services from one device to another if they have more than one phone, presumably from within the Project Fi app and with little effort. This would let customers switch their calls and messages to another main device should they have one for work and one for personal, making it easy to ensure they miss nothing important. It also appears that the details about devices switching between carriers depending on which carrier offers better service in the area may be true, as there were strings in the code that mention both T-Mobile and Sprint, both of which are the carriers that Google’s wireless service has been rumored to work off of. One last bit of important information points to the possibility of device financing, at least for the Nexus 6, which has been rumored to be the only supported device for the Google MVNO service. It may be that this will be the only device Google will allow to be broken up into payments over the bill, much like other carriers are doing now with all of their phones. There are still a lot of unknowns about Project Fi, if it will remain called that in the end, like actual plan costs, tentative release dates, supported locations and so on. Hopefully, more concrete details about Project Fi will come to light in the near future.

Unboxing: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
Finally. We have our hands on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Big shout out to Sprint for hooking us up. We have the 32GB Pearl White model of the Galaxy S6 Edge in hand, and it looks just as great as it did in Barcelona. It’s super thin, but the curved display doesn’t really make it tough to hold onto, which is definitely a surprise. And was one of the biggest complaints from users when it was announced last month.
Out of the box, the Sprint Galaxy S6 Edge has 24.74GB free, on the 32GB model. There’s also quite a bit of bloatware installed on the Galaxy S6 Edge, from Sprint. This includes OneDrive, OneNote, Hancom Office 2014, Milk Music, Smart Remote, Instagram, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, 1Weather, Amazon, App Pass, App Spotlight, Familywall for Sprint, Galaxy Apps, Lookout, Messaging+, NASCAR Mobile 2014, NBA GameTime, NextRadio, Scout, Sprint Family, Sprint Fun & Games, Sprint Music Plus, Sprint TV & Movies, Spotify, Sprint Worldwide, and Sprint Zone.
The Galaxy S6 Edge camera does poke out a bit, it’s not too bad. But Samsung does have Sapphire glass on the camera so that it won’t get scratched up. Which is good. After some quick time with the camera, I’m pretty impressed. Not only does it take some fantastic photos, but it also is very fast at taking photos. Almost as fast as the HTC One M9. We’ll have a nice camera shootout with the Galaxy S6 Edge/S6, Galaxy Note 4, HTC One M9, Xperia Z3 and the Nexus 6 soon. So make sure you stay tuned for that.
Samsung has put a 2560×1440 resolution Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S6 Edge, and then curved it. It’s a pretty good looking display, in fact, I think it’s even better than the Galaxy Note 4. It’s a really good display, probably one of the best ones out there, right now.
