What happens when you make a “mini” version of a monestrous 5.9-inch handset? The end result is a Mini with a screen size that most of us would still call relatively big, or at least that’s the case with the Oppo N1 Mini.
Rumors of an N1 Mini have been floating around the web for a while now, and even our own sources indicate such a device is not only actively in the works, but that it will arrive sometime in late June. Now a new report from Chinese news site Laoyaoba claims the handset will offer either a MediaTek MT6592 CPU or Samsung Exynos 5422 and will launch in both LTE and non-LTE variants. Furthermore, the N1 Mini will pack a 5-inch display.
While 5-inches isn’t mini by any definition other than perhaps Oppo’s, it is still much smaller than the company’s other flagship devices, the Oppo N1 and Find 7. The former of these devices packs a 5.9-inch display, while the latter comes in at 5.5-inches. If the Oppo N1 Mini manages to pack at least reasonably high-end specs, it’s smaller size could make it more appealing to the western world.
Of course even if it copies the Oppo N1’s specs near-verbatim and merely shrinks them down, the N1 isn’t necessarily a bleeding-edge powerhouse by today’s standards. Still, the Snapdragon 600 CPU is more than capable of handling every app you throw at it and should provide a more than solid Android experience.
If the N1 Mini has the same rotating camera found on its bigger brother, it could also be a major hit among camera aficionados that want a more pocketable device than the N1. For those that liked the Oppo N1 and its rotating camera but are hoping for something with a bit more power under the hood, the Chinese publication also claims that an Oppo N2 is in the works and will be released sometime later this year.
