Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 Wrap Up

AH CES 2015 Logo-1

Consumer Electronics Show (CES) took place in Las Vegas, like it does every year. The show is now over and we’ve seen a ton exciting stuff shown off by various companies along with a bunch of announcements. We worked hard in order to deliver all sorts of news your way and give you a glimpse of CES. A member of the AH team, Nick Sutrich, reported directly from Las Vegas. Nick did a great job and provided a lot of content for us to use, including news, photos and some exclusive stuff, like the interview with Carl Pei from OnePlus, for example. We, on the other end, did the best we could in order to pass that news onto you as soon as we possibly could, which resulted in some great response from you guys, and we’d like to thank you for that.

That being said, we’re here to give you a list of what got announced at CES along with all our hands-ons, in case you missed something. We’ll list our hands-ons and announcements separately, by dates, down below, so that you have a nice and quick way to read everything should you choose to do so. Before I do that, however, it is worth mentioning that this year’s CES did not disappoint. We’ve seen LG launch their 2nd-gen G Flex handset, the G Flex 2, which is powered by Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 810 SoC. Lenovo announced their two new smartphone offerings, X2 Pro and P90, and HTC showcased their Desire 826 handset. Nvidia also had something to say, the company has released their new Tegra X1 processor, etc. There were a lot of announcements at CES, and it would take ages to talk about all of them, so we’ll just list them for you so that you can easily access them, as I already mentioned. Here we go.

Samsung Reportedly Providing Apple With Chipsets For The Apple Watch

AH Samsung Logo-2

Samsung was known to produce certain components of various Apple products like iPhones and iPads, and even in the midst of all this business going on over the patent dispute that has still not completely finished(thanks to Apple’s appeal of Judge Lucy Koh’s decision last year to deny Apple the sales ban)it’s nice to know that Apple can find the time to accept and choose Samsung as a key manufacturer to provide them with components for their upcoming Apple Watch. According to Digitimes who is first reporting on this matter, Samsung will be manufacturing the S1 system-in-package chipset for the Apple Watch, of which it will be designed specifically for.

The Apple Watch is set to launch in March of this year, and in leading up to that launch Apple is said to be preparing for production by placing orders from Samsung for 3,000-4,000 12-inch wafers on a monthly basis for the chipset that is to be built inside of the watch. Samsung is also reportedly going to be producing more iPhone and iPad processors going forward for the new year. Even though Samsung may be looking at paying out a potential huge sum to Apple over last year’s patent infringement case, with the orders for the iPhone and iPad processors as well as for the new Apple Watch chipsets, they’ll likely be gaining all that back and then some in new revenues.

Chock this up as a major win for Samsung, who will likely continue to be the provider of chipsets for certain Apple devices for a while we would guess. Although Digitimes also notes that their source mentions Samsung could be looking at some competition when it comes to fulfilling orders for the chipsets on the second gen. Apple Watch from semi conductor company TSMC. Whether or not Apple will go with Samsung or TSMC or both for the Apple Watch’s successor will have to wait to we get much closer to that time period, as the first gen. Apple Watch hasn’t even been launched yet. In any case, Samsung is still making a ton of money off of Apple.

Android Epic App Battle: News Republic V.S. Yahoo New Digest

AH Epic App Battles 1.0

There are many ways to get your news these days, whether that’s traditionally from the printed medium or from online via your computer or smartphone. You can even grab all of the news you need from apps. The questions is, which apps are the best news apps out there? We’re going to attempt to find out in this week’s app battle as were pitting two popular news apps against each other, News Republic, and Yahoo News Digest. The great thing about both of these is that they each gather a collective set of news sources and stories and feed them to you all in one app so you aren’t having to download and install multiple apps to stay up to date on the latest headlines. Which app deserves to be the champion though? We’ll go over a few features of each app here, and then let you all vote in the G+ poll on which one deserves the crown.

News RepublicNews Republic

News Republic‘s main goal is to feed you the latest breaking news so you’re never missing out on what’s important and what’s happening in the now. It filters in breaking news coverage from over 1,000 licensed and trusted news feeds from around the globe so it isn’t just localized or grabbing news from a few specific topics. You get news from everywhere. The format is praised and touted as highly visual, so if you really like to see what’s going on and ingest your news with as much visual appeal as possible with bog, bold images, News Republic is trying to give you that experience. The app also gives complete articles that contain full text so you aren’t getting snippets of articles, they also contain any photos and videos from the original article sources so you get the news as it was intended from the source.

The My News digest feature is a daily news briefing that centers around you so you get exactly what you want, and you can even customize your app homescreen experience with choosing from over 1 million topics. The app gives you a little bit more customization too by letting you add custom headlines for your favorite RSS feeds, and the TagNav feature will let you explore related topics to anything you’re currently reading.

Yahoo News DigestYahoo News Digest

Yahoo News Digest does things a little bit differently when it comes to feeding you your news. While it can be nice to have a news app dedicated to every source, and it can also be nice to have a one stop shop app that can feed you all your news from all the sources you follow while also giving you the compete article with full text(like News Republic)sometimes you don’t need every single detail and you just want to get the main context so you know what’s happening. That’s what Yahoo News Digest provides for the user.

It gives a definitive summary of all the news that one could consider important or “need-to-know” so you don’t miss out on the things that are happening around you, but you also get summary, focused details and not the entire block of content from beginning to end. Yahoo News Digests also delivers your news to you in daily digests(the name makes sense right?)but only twice a day. Once in the morning, and once at night. During these times of delivering news the app takes all the top stories of the morning and evening and presents in an easy-to-read summarized format with the key details and information. To make sure that you don’t miss any of the important details,(called ‘Atoms’)Yahoo News Digest pulls the information from multiple sources so it can compile the summarized story for you. Atoms include key quotes, videos and photos, maps, infographs, wikipedia excerpts, and more, so you can be sure that what you’re getting isn’t just key bits of text only. Yahoo News Digest also curates their news summary stories for you both by hand by a team dedicated specialists, and by a unique algorithm they created.

So, which news app is more deserving of the crown? The app that gives you the summary of all the key details? Or the app that gives you the complete, full article with full text, photos, and videos? Both apps are good in their own right and have something to offer specific people. Which one do you find the most useful though? Which one do you enjoy more? Don’t forget to vote in the G+ poll.

Android Game Of The Week: Crossy Road

AH Crossy Road-1

Who says that free-to-play games can’t be massive amounts of fun? Naysayers, that’s who. Crossy Road is a fine example of a free-to-play title which gives the gamer huge amounts of fun at no cost(although it does offer IAP’s for unlockable characters if you wish)and it can provide you with hours of addictive enjoyment. Crossy Road is making its debut on Android this week after having been launched on iOS for some time, and we’re glad it’s finally here to join the party because this is a game that shouldn’t be missed.

It’s not gonna bog you down with tons of text and in-depth stories. There’s no character engagement, other than tapping on the screen to direct them to the next place to move to, and that’s OK. Stories and context are great in games. They make things feel immersive and it’s wonderful. You don’t always have time for games like that though and sometimes you really just need something to help you pass the time for 5 or 10 minutes. Crossy Road is excellent for this. You start the game off as a chicken and your only goal is to help it cross the road, then another one, then another one, then maybe some train tracks and maybe a raging river or two. It all depends as the levels seem to randomly generated which is great, because it means things will stay a little challenging.

Once you begin playing, try to see how long you can keep your character crossing roads and rivers without getting hit by cars and trucks, missing the logs or lillypads, or picked up from an eagle flying by if you let the screen catch up to your position. Once this happens you’ll have to start all over. There are multiple characters to unlock and collect. You can collect over 50 characters in all with more coming through updates in the future. There are also timed free gift giveaways that happen throughout the game where you can receive cool in game items. At this point I have only gotten coins, but I suspect you can get characters too. With the coins you can choose to “win a prize,” which you can unlock characters from. You can also sign into Google Play for achievements and leaderboards, and basically just hop forever until you’re sick of it. Which probably won’t happen unless you play for it 5 hours straight. You can grab Crossy Road from the Play Store if you’re up for some nostalgic Frogger like adventures.

Jide Technologies Unveils Their Android Based ‘Ultra Tablet’ Which Looks Just Like A Microsoft Surface Clone

Remix ultra tablet 3

Microsoft Surface tablets are pretty nice pieces of hardware, and it’s not just that they have models running full versions of Windows that you can run full programs on including Office, photoshop, and even PC games on, it’s also the thin sleek profile, the magnetic tablet keyboard attachment, and the built-in kickstand on the back that lets you use it propped up with ease. We aren’t the only ones who think the surface tablet is a stylish device, as you can find just about every angle of this new ‘Ultra Tablet'(designed and manufactured by Jide Technology which was formed by three ex-Google employees)evokes the design of the Surface tablets from Microsoft.

Now we aren’t judging by any means, whether this looks like the Surface tablet or not is none of our concern. We aren’t Microsoft. With that being said, blatant copies are blatant copies so we’re not going to hold back from pointing that out. We’re actually curious to see how these things operate though. The Ultra Tablet runs an operating system called the Remix OS(also created by Jide)which is more or less a mashup of Windows 8 and ChromeOS at least in style. No joke, the UI is so strikingly similar to both of those that it’s uncanny. It’s actually a customized version of Android 4.4.2 but Jide does have plans for a Lollipop update this year. Whether or not the UI is different enough to keep the wolves at bay(and by wolves we mean teams of lawyers calling for a cease and desist)remains to be seen.

Jide Technologies apparently had this thing set up at CES 2015 this week, unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to see it for ourselves. The tablet is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4+1 chipset and has 2GB of RAM, and it sports a 11.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It also carries front and rear facing cameras(both 5MP)and it will reportedly come in two different sizes, a 16GB model and 64GB model with no word that we could find on a 32GB model. Both size models will carry a microSD card slot with support for up to an additional 128GB of storage if you need it too. The 64GB model is expected to be priced at about $449, with the 16GB model coming in at $100 cheaper although the prices haven’t been finalized yet by Jide. You can find a full list of specifications below in the images, along with some shots of the tablet itself. Truth be told it actually looks like a cool tablet and we wouldn’t mind using one. That is if it’s ever allowed to make it to market.

Analysts Saying T-Mobile’s Competitive Pricing is not Negatively Affecting Them

T-Mobile-Logo-AH-4

Since Legere took over the wheel at T-Mobile USA, many people have been wondering how T-Mobile can keep making a profit when they are dropping prices left and right. Paying off ETF’s and doing a ton of other incentives. Which are not a limited time promotion. Well according to a Wells Fargo Analyst, it seems that this has not negatively affected T-Mobile USA. In a note sent out today, Wells Fargo analyst Jennifer Fritzsche stated that T-Mobile should reach their EBITDA target of $5.6 billion to $5.8 billion for 2014. Which includes the Q4 EBITDA of $1.7 billion. She also noted that the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus was a big factor in T-Mobile’s Q4 success. I’m sure the Galaxy Note 4, helped as well. T-Mobile stated earlier this week they added 2.1 million net subscribers. She also said that if the iPhones hadn’t had supply issues right after launch, the carrier would have posted even higher numbers.

Meanwhile we’re hearing from other analysts that AT&T and Verizon are adding a ton of customers, but their churn rate has risen over the previous quarter. Which means more customers are leaving the big two carriers than in previous quarters. It might not be a big deal because they are both expected to still add close to 2 million customers each. Keeping a very strong lead ahead of Sprint and T-Mobile.

Overall, it looks like a good Q4 for all four carriers. Which doesn’t happen often, if ever. Usually either T-Mobile or Sprint will post a loss, but so far it looks like both are reporting a huge gain. With Sprint adding near 1 million and T-Mobile at over 2 million subscribers. Not bad at all. And we’re getting closer to a competitive wireless industry. Which is going to benefit each and every one of us.

How many of you are surprised that all of T-Mobiles incentives and promotions are not negatively affecting the carrier? Let us know in the comments below.

AccuWeather Updates Their App With Full Android Wear Support

AH AccuWeather-1

Everyone has their own favorite applications for things like news, weather and the like. Weather apps are prominent and easy to get your hands on because there is literally a hundreds of different apps dedicated to feeding you the information on your local and other forecasts as well as other useful weather information. One of the most popular weather applications that has been around on Android for nearly the entire time it’s been an operating system available to the public is AccuWeather, and while it was a pretty good weather app before, they’re giving it even more value with their latest update by bringing in Android Wear support.

Google already provides you weather information via the Google Now cards that show up on your wrist, which is great because it gives you what you need at a glance. AccuWeather though not only sends notifications to your wrist whenever your connected device gets a weather alert, but you can open up the app on Android Wear anytime you like and check things like weekly forecasts, today’s temperatures and weather standings, and more just by tapping and swiping to navigate to it, or by speaking to the watch and opening the app using the voice control.

The AccuWeather app on Android Wear gives you four screens to flip through. One for the day’s weather conditions, the weekly forecast, and the awesome MinuteCast feature which gives you minute by minute precipitation forecasts that are hyper-localized to your exact street address. Checking the MinuteCast on Android wear is easy as you can simply drag your finger around the dial on screen to see each minute. Lastly you have the alerts page which gives you information on any advisories, and then a fifth page to open the AccuWeather app on the phone. You’ll also of course get cards on the watch whenever notifications pop up on your phone so you won’t always have to be opening the app up yourself, but it’s nice to know that there’s an option for it and that AccuWeather saw the value in adding full Android Wear support and not just notification cards. The update is already live so you should be able to grab it from the Play Store and gain Android Wear support immediately.

Ex-Google engineers built a Microsoft Surface clone that runs Android

remix tablet

The Microsoft Surface is one of the best attempts at a hybrid tablet/laptop we’ve seen in the last few years. It’s thin, powerful, portable, and has a keyboard that doesn’t add any bulk. The only problem for some people is that it runs Windows. Three ex-Google engineers have solved that problem.

They call it the Remix tablet, but it may as well just be called Microsoft Surface for Android. It has the same flip-out kickstand on the back and a super thin magnetically attachable keyboard. It runs a special version of Android called Remix OS, which looks a lot like someone combined Chrome OS, Android Lollipop, and “Metro.” It can even run side-by-side apps.

How does it compare with specs? The Remix tablet has a 11.6-inch 1920×1080 display, 2GB of RAM, and a Nvidia Tegra 4+1 processor. They plan to release the Remix tablet later this year in the US for $350. Unless, of course, Microsoft has something to say about that. Would you buy a Microsoft Surface with Android?

Top Android Homescreen January 9th Edition: HoneyComb

HoneyComb-1

It’s Friday and here at Android Headlines that means it’s time for another top homescreen design. This week, HoneyComb makes a triumphant return to Android, just not in the way that we all remember it. HoneyComb is this weeks top homescreen pick, and like all of our design picks every week it’s made up from a few different apps, which we’ll gloss over here and brief you on how to get it set up if you like the style and the look of this design, and would love to set it up for yourself.

The first method for setting this up on your own homescreen is the easiest, as all you need to do is install the third party home launcher called Themer, and then choose the HoneyComb theme after downloading the file from its creator which can be found at the source link below. The second method, for those who don’t use Themer and prefer another third party home launcher with a little more control over what goes where, something like Nova Prime for example, you can choose to use something like Nova Prime or Apex pro for your third party home launcher, and you’ll also need Zooper widgets pro for applying the widgets.

For the Nova launcher setup, make sure you set your desktop grid to 8 x 6,( 8 rows and 6 columns)and make sure there are no margins. Next disable the dock and disable the show shadow option, and set your number of homescreens to one page. The widgets can be downloaded from the source link, of which there are two, one being a 7 x 6 widget and the other is a 1 x 6 widget. Once you have the widgets downloaded, open up a file manager application and move them from whatever folder you placed them in when transferring them to your phone,(or move them from the downloads folder if you initiated the download from your phone)and make sure to move them into the Zooper folder. After that you’re only a couple of “long presses” away from getting this design setup on your own device. If you like what you see, make sure to show the creator some appreciation by hitting the love button and “zoom” the image. As always, have a great weekend and happy themeing!

AccuWeather adds support for Android Wear

accuweather

Android Wear devices come equipped with Google weather cards. If enabled, there should always be a card for your “Home” location and wherever you are currently located. This works pretty good, but you might want something with more in-depth weather data. AccuWeather has just made their Android app compatible with Wear.

When you open the AccuWeather app with your voice or from the app list you’ll be greeted with much more weather information. You can see the current conditions, precipitation report, hourly forecast, and alerts for things like flooding or wind chill. This is a nice option for people who want just a little more than the Google weather cards.

AccuWeather for Android is available for free with ads (on the phone) or for $3 without ads. The Android Wear integration should work the same for both versions.

Oppo Keeping A Close Eye On Polaroid’s Selfie Smartphone With Rotating Camera

AH Polaroid Selfie-3

One of the big surprises at this year’s CES event was that of Polaroid. For awhile now, we have come to understand that smartphones should be equipped with cameras and as such have gotten somewhat used to smartphone manufacturers releasing smartphones with more advanced and high-end cameras. In fact, we are also starting to get used to smartphone manufacturers releasing just camera devices (looking at you HTC RE). That said, we are not so used to seeing ex-camera companies suddenly releasing smartphones, but that seems to be the case for this year with both Kodak and Polaroid joining the smartphone wars.

Polaroid in particular had some interesting smartphones to offer. At CES, the once camera company launched three smartphones dubbed the Polaroid Snap, Polaroid Selfie and Polaroid Flip. Of the three, the one that caught the most attention, was the Polaroid Selfie. Now, this was not just because this is another selfie-focused device but instead because it caused an element of deja vu. To recap, the Polaroid selfie comes with a 5.5″ HD IPS display (1280 x 720 resolution). Inside, the Polaroid Selfie offers 2GB RAM and powered by an Octa-core processor. Additional features on offer included WiFI, Bluetooth 4.0 and running on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). However, the most interesting feature (and the element of deja vu) was the camera. This device did not come with traditional front and rear cameras but instead came equipped with a rotatable 13MP camera which could switch between being a front and rear facing camera. Kinda like the Oppo N1. In fact, the camera on the Polaroid Selfie is almost identical to the Oppo N1 (and quite similar to the Oppo N3).

So much so that Oppo have suddenly taken notice of the Polaroid Selfie and seem to be a little concerned. This is because Oppo has patented their camera and won’t be too happy if a similar camera starts making the rounds that might be based on their design. As such, it is being reported that Oppo have stated that they are keeping a close eye on the Polaroid development and “reserves the right to take further legal action”. So, it looks like things between these two companies might have just gotten a lot more interesting. Will 2015 be the year of the ‘Selfie Patent War’? We will have to wait and see.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition is “no longer available for sale”

samsung_galaxy_s_4_google_play_edition_no_longer_for_sale

Today, we say goodbye to a longtime Google Play edition device. Following a stay of nearly two years in the Play Store, Google has formally retired the Galaxy S 4. The Samsung device carried an “out of stock” tag for quite some time, but now the same area reads “no longer available for sale.” This leaves the HTC One (M8) as the sole Google Play edition device available. Arguably, though, the Galaxy S 4 was the most welcome Google Play edition device because of its software. It stripped down Samsung’s TouchWiz overlay and stock Android ran the show.

EE Now Europe’s Largest LTE Carrier

EELogo

UK carrier EE, formed from the merger of Orange and T-Mobile, launched its 4G LTE network in the summer of 2012. The business has just announced their total number of 4G LTE subscribers at 7.7 million, up 5.7 million during 2014, to applause: EE is now the largest 4G LTE operator across Europe. Essentially, EE more than doubled its 4G customer base during the calendar year 2014, compared with second place UK network in the LTE market, O2, with over 3 million 4G LTE customers out of 24 million. EE’s coverage is now 80% of the UK population and they are aiming to bring this up to 98% by the end of 2015. EE currently offer LTE spectrum at the 1.8 GHz and 2.6 GHz frequencies and are pushing ahead in offering higher speed LTE coverage, called 4G+ by EE’s marketing department (and known as Category 6 to networking people, with Category 9 being trialled this year). It’s able to use its sister non-LTE brands, Orange and T-Mobile, to feed EE with customers wanting access to the higher speed data network. This demand is being driven by less expensive plans, including pre-paid, plus the cost of LTE-enabled devices is falling month on month. Another factor, which isn’t mention in EE’s report, is that we have now seen a full two years since the introduction of EE’s LTE network in the UK. This means that many customers will have upgraded their contract and so of course will have been shown the opportunity of LTE service by the salesperson. The other LTE carriers in the UK that offer LTE as an optional extra, O2 and Vodafone, will not reach the two year point until quite late in this year. This is likely to help their numbers but we won’t see the impact of this until this time next year.

Some of EE’s other news merits attention. They’ve doubled their network capacity over the course of 2014 and have plans to boost capacity in busy areas, as one might expect, by introducing the higher speed LTE networking technologies. Their data shows that the amount of data channeled over the 4G LTE network increased six fold during 2014 compared with 2013, which shows that not only are more customers adopting LTE devices but their use of the service is also growing. This is very much “as expected,” because once people get used to having higher speed networking on their devices, they tend to use it more.

EE’s subscriber growth is against a backdrop of deteriorating network speeds for the UK LTE carriers, which appear to show a trend that I have been writing about for some time: UK carriers are inexpensive but the quality simply isn’t there. There are a few reasons for this, including some Government meddling that appears to be backwards looking rather than forwards looking by setting standard that do not stretch the networks. However, EE is pushing ahead and this growth is encouraging. It’s also probably made the business appear slightly more valuable in the eyes of BT, too.

The Polaroid Selfie may be cool, but Oppo’s not cool with Polaroid stealing their ideas

polaroid selfie

When we gave you guys a quick look at Polaroid’s latest smartphones, we noted that one device in particular — the Polaroid Selfie — looked a lot like the Oppo N3. That comparison was made mainly due to the device’s top-mounted swivel camera, a module that allows you to take either rear or front photos with the simple swing of the puck holding the camera and LED flash.

But the bad news for Polaroid is that we weren’t the only ones who noticed this similarity. The aforementioned Oppo caught wind of Polaroid’s goods from CES earlier this week themselves, and you can imagine they weren’t necessarily delighted with what they saw.

Oppo_N1_Front_View There is one fundamental difference between the modules on the Oppo N3 and the Polaroid Selfie: the latter’s camera swivel is motorized and can be moved without having to touch it, while the Polaroid Selfie requires manual adjustment.

Of course, that doesn’t mean much considering the Oppo N1 (pictured to the right, review right here) first brought this interesting design in manual fashion, so Oppo has dibs to the “first” and “mine” claims on both fronts.

And if Oppo is to be believed, this isn’t a simple call-out: they’ve actually patented this design, and they tell Phandroid that they won’t hesitate to pursue legal action to make sure they protect what’s rightfully theirs. Said in context by Oppo:

OPPO has not licensed the design of the rotating camera to any third parties, nor has us done that in any OEM way. We will continue to keep track of the event and reserves the right to take further legal action.

Phandroid attempted to track down the patents in question in either the United States Patent and Trademark Office or Chinese patent and trademark offices, but we have been unable to find them as of the time of this writing.

We’ve requested a copy or a link to the patents from Oppo, but in the meantime we can’t help but to think they have pretty good reason to feel slighted. We’ve reached out to both Oppo and Polaroid for further comment, and will provide updates as we get them.

On mobile, websites that have fixed elements - that is, headers or other content that stays in the same place on your screen regardless of which part of the page you are on - can be very annoying. This is especially true when you zoom in, because you often can no longer see the entire element.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 goes up for sale with worldwide shipping

xiaomi_redmi2s_picture1 Xiaomi’s recently announced Redmi 2 is an aggressively priced budget device, featuring a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and a 720p 4.7-inch screen. It officially launched in Chinese markets for roughly $110, but trying to get one shipped to the US would be a headache. Fortunately, a Chinese website has started selling the device at a slight mark-up that will ship the device worldwide.

SPEMall is selling the unlocked device for $154.99 plus whatever it costs to get it shipped to your location. That’s still fairly cheap, especially considering the hardware on the device.

Qualcomm integrating smartphone kill switch into Snapdragon processors

Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Chip-932 Mobile device security was a hot issue in 2014, and it’s likely going to stay that way in 2015. Many device manufacturers looked into adding kill switches to their phones, and Google has even worked on their implementation.

On the hardware side of things, Qualcomm has announced they are working on a solution for stolen and lost devices called SafeSwitch, which will allow users to remotely lock their devices to secure personal information. Once the device is found, it can then be unlocked and re-activated.

This SafeSwitch technology integrates hardware and software since it’s being designed in tandem with Qualcomm processors. The hardware and software security begins working when the device boots up, so it’s not going to be something that’s easy to circumvent.

Since SafeSwitch works on the hardware level, you won’t see it come to older devices, but it’s going to begin shipping with the Snapdragon 810 going forward. That’s good news if you were planning on picking up LG’s G Flex 2.
