Huawei P8 Specifications, Case And Benchmark Results Leak

huawei-logo-1

Huawei is one of those Chinese smartphone OEMs that are currently under the spotlight thanks to their great results last year. This China-based smartphone manufacturer managed to produce some great looking and performing smartphones last year, and naturally we expect them to do even better this time around. More or less everyone was expecting the company to announce their Huawei P8 handset at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona next month, but Huawei won’t do that. It was earlier confirmed that the company will unveil the P8 in London on April 15. We’ve been seeing a lot of rumors and leaks regarding this device lately, and we have some new info to share with you this time around.

If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll see a bunch of images, which actually come from two separate leaks. The first leak brings us 7 images which show off the device (in a case though), and a couple of screenshots of the OS on the phone itself which actually reveal that this will be a dual SIM device, while they also reveal the device’s alleged specifications / benchmark results. The last two images in the gallery show off what seems to be the Huawei P8 case, which has a rather sizeable cutout in the center of the case, which seems to confirm the device will ship with a fingerprint scanner after all. Anyhow, let’s take a look at the leaked specs, shall we.

This device scored 47,426 on AnTuTu according to the screenshots, and will be powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 64-bit octa-core processor. The device will also ship with 3GB of RAM for all your multitasking needs and 64GB of internal storage is also listed here, though the device will quite probably be available in multiple storage variants. 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display will be located on the front side of this device. 13 and 8-megapixel cameras will also be a part of this package, on the device’s back and front, respectively. It seems like Android 5.0 Lollipop will come pre-installed on this device, which was to be expected. There you have it folks, make sure to share your thoughts with us.

Android Headliner: What To Expect From Samsung At This Year’s MWC Event

Samsung 3

When it comes to MWC2015, there is only one name on everybody’s lips, Samsung. To be fair, HTC are making waves and are reported to be bringing a massively anticipated smartphone, the HTC One M9. But this is Samsung. They are the largest android smartphone manufacturer in the world and they do release more android devices each year than any other company. That said, this is not the real reason as to why so many eyes will be on Samsung this year. The reality is that Samsung have seen falling sales in recent times and mounting pressure in Western markets from Apple, in China from the likes of Xiaomi, in India from the likes of Micromax and even in their home market, South Korea from LG. As a result, at this year’s MWC, a lot is expected from Samsung. But come March 1st in Barcelona, what should we expect?

Tablets?

Samsung likes making tablets. So it would be a fair assumption to assume that Samsung will be bringing a tablet to MWC. The question is which one will it be? Most indications point towards what is commonly being referred to as the ‘Samsung Galaxy Tab S2′. Details on this device are very limited. Some reports are suggesting there might be two variants of this device, an 8-inch and a 9.7” version with the very latest information suggesting this tablet range will be lighter and thinner than the iPad Air 2. That said, it was also very recently reported that Samsung are also working on an A range of tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A and Tab A Plus. If the rumors are to be believed, then we do know a little more about these devices. They will also possibly come in 8-inch and 9.7-inch versions. Both 8-inch tabs will come will come with a snapdragon 410 processor inside and powered by a 4,200mAh battery. In contrast, both 9.7-inch tabs will come with a Qualcomm APQ 8016 CPU and powered by a 6,000mAh battery. In terms of cameras, both will come with a 5MP rear shooter and a 2MP front facing option. While both are reported to come with 16GB internal storage, the only notable difference between the Tab A and Tab A plus is that the former will come with 1.5GB RAM while the latter will come with 2GB RAM. There is also the possibility that the Tab A Plus will come with a Galaxy Note-like Stylus.

Smartwatch?

Moving on from tablets, it is also largely expected that Samsung will bring to the table a new smartwatch. Once more, details are again limited, although it is largely being reported that the new Samsung smartwatch will be round. In fact, the new Samsung smartwatch is going by the current codename ‘Orbis’. The two main rumblings with Orbis is that it will come with a rotating bezel and will offer wireless charging. It is not clear if the rotating bezel will have any additional purpose or will be purely aesthetic. Although, knowing Samsung, the feature will provide some control over the device.

Galaxy S6?

Of course, as much as consumers will be interested in new Samsung Tablets and smartwatches, these are not where the focus will be this year. Instead, all eyes will be firmly on the latest Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. So what do we know? Well, it does now seem clear that Samsung will unveil two Galaxy S smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S Edge. Just like at IFA with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge, the main difference between the two, is the Edge will come with additional Edge display. That said, unlike the Note Edge, the Galaxy S Edge will come with dual Edge displays. That is, one down either side of the device.

In terms of the actual device, all bets are off as to what we will officially get. It has long been rumored that the S6 devices will be different from previous incarnations. Samsung has the most to prove in this product and have been reported to be building the device from scratch. The main features being reported is the screen will be somewhere in the region of 5.1-inches. The Edge may differ very slightly in this respect, like how the Note Edge does from the Note 4. Following on from this, it is largely believed the S6 will come with a Quad HD Super-AMOLED display and most likely with 3 (maybe 4) GB RAM. The processor has also been a big talking point of late. Originally, it was thought the Galaxy S6 would come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU inside. Although, it now seems as though the S6 will initially launch with Samsung’s homegrown Exynos 7420 processor. Other rumored features of the S6 include the possibility of wireless charging and a 2,600mAh battery. There has also been wide speculation in terms of the software of the Galaxy S6. It has been consistently reported that Samsung will tone down the level of TouchWiz and are planning to offer a much closer to stock version of android. Although, we have also recently heard rumors that there may be a number of Microsoft apps coming pre-installed. It is also largely expected that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will come with a more refined look. For instance, the fingerprint scanner/flash will be moved from below the camera lens to the right, while the display will be more edge-to-edge based will minimal bezel levels.

So that is about it. As this year’s MWC slowly draws closer, we can expect to see the release of a tablet, a smartwatch, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S Edge. This seems to be the minimum of what we can expect from Samsung. Although, they are certainly the company who could suddenly and out-of-nowhere unveil a completely unexpected device. It would not be the first time and so should not be ruled out this time either. We will just have to wait and see what the March 1st Samsung Unpacked event will bring. In the meantime, what would you like to see Samsung unveil?

A Developer Has Gotten Android Wear To Work With An iPhone Without Jailbreaking

android-wear-thumb

A developer has done the (almost) unthinkable: gotten an Android Wear watch to work with an Apple iPhone. More specifically, it's a Moto 360 and an iPhone 6. Maybe more surprising is that he did not need to jailbreak the iPhone to do it, even though his happens to be. It's not exactly clear how much he needed to modify the watch, but he's obviously loaded custom software onto it. Here's a proof-of-concept video:

If you don't like videos, it shows a text message rolling in on the iPhone and an alert subsequently popping up on the Moto 360.

[Weekend Poll] What Brand Is Your Current Smartphone?

nexus2cee_DSC5593 (1)

I can't believe we've never run this poll, but apparently we haven't, and it's such a simple one: what brand is your current smartphone?

Note: for the purpose of this poll, Nexus phones should be voted as their actual OEM (there is no 'Google' option). I'm not including any non-Android OEMs, so for any of you Nokia or Apple users, vote "other." Because, you know, this is an Android blog. I realize I am also excluding a variety of smaller or regional device makers (Micromax, Alcatel, Pantech, NEC, Spice, Karbonn, Meizu, Geeksphone - to name a very few) but we're trying to go with slightly more global brands in this poll.

Next time you are on the road and in need of gas, cue Google Now for assistance. Select users are beginning to see recommendations for gas stations that lie on their same routes. Google offers results based on driving speed and location. Gas stations are represented by red circles with white gas pumps. The card appears only when driving or navigating rather than being present when not in a vehicle.

Leaked images purported to be Huawei Ascend P8

huawei_ascend_p8_leak_01

Although the rumor mill lately seems to be dominated by leaks of Samsung and HTC devices, other manufacturers have devices in the works. Huawei is likely working on the next model in their Ascend line, the Huawei Ascend P8. Some new images making the rounds purport to be of the Ascend P8, although whatever the device is it has been concealed some by a case.

What can be made out includes a center position USB slot in the bottom edge surrounded by speaker grills to both sides, a top-mounted headphone jack, and a front-facing camera that appears to come with an optical image stabilizer sensor.

Along with the images of the actual device there are some screenshots of Antutu scores that would confirm some of the hardware. We can see the device is equipped with an octa-core cpu which some sources believe will be Huawei’s own, internally produced Kirin 930 64-bit chip. The test device also has 3 GB of RAM, a 13 MP main camera, and is running a 1920 x 1080 resolution. All of this will be running Android Lollipop.

The scores indicate the device should be able to hold its own against most current flagship devices. Reports indicate Huawei may hold off on announcing the Ascend P8 until the middle of April instead of at MWC 2015.
