Sign Up to Test the Official reddit Android Beta App

An official reddit app for Android users is on the way, but first, this app needs testers to make sure everything is in working order. reddit is taking sign-ups to participate in the beta, possibly allowing a few of you to try out the app before it is made available on Google Play.

Signing up is easy enough – you will be asked questions about your reddit usage, where you use reddit, how often you vote on reddit, and a few other things. All seem pretty standard to be entered into a beta.

At this time, the reddit team does not have a concrete launch date, but with a beta in the works, it must be close. I would say it’s about time we got ourselves an official reddit app.

You can sign yourself up by following the link below.

Google Play Music Update Brings Thumbs Up and Down to Notification

An update to Google Play Music brings big news for those here who enjoy thumbing up and down tracks, which allows users to create quick and easy playlists of only music they enjoy.

Before this update, you could thumb up tracks on the player itself, but now, icons for thumbing up and down tracks appear in the Play Music notification itself, granting even easier access to the feature.

Once you have established a solid list of thumbs up tracks, check out your “Thumbs up” playlist under the My Library section of the Play Music app.

Go rock out.

Report: Nexus 6P Coming to Best Buy, Gold Model to be Made Available in US

According to sources of 9 to 5 Google, Google will begin to sell the Nexus 6P through Best Buy sometime in the very near future, but more interestingly, the same folks “familiar with the matter,” claim that Google will also begin to sell the Nexus 6P Special Edition (gold model) to residents of the US, ending the exclusivity period for Japan it currently sits at.

As of right now, Best Buy sells the Nexus 5X, and as we have seen a few times before, Best Buy tends to offer exclusive models (colors) of phones. Yet to be confirmed by Google or Best Buy, it is possible we see the Special Edition of the Nexus 6P sold exclusively through Best Buy, maybe making an appearance on the Google Store later down the road.

It is speculated that Huawei will announce this new availability during its press event at CES on Tuesday, January 5.

Speaking of the Nexus 6P Special Edition on the Google Store, many folks pointed us towards Google’s online shop, where Google does list the device. However, it is not available for purchase at this time. It is a good sign to at least see a listing for it, though.

If the Nexus 6P Special Edition does hit our shores, will you be picking one up?

Verizon Employees are Already Getting Marshmallow on the DROID Turbo 2

You know how we first caught wind of a soak test on the horizon last week for the DROID Turbo 2 and wondered if it wasn’t Marshmallow? It may very well be. Owners of the DROID Turbo 2 Employee Edition (read: Verizon employees) started receiving a new the update over the week that weighs in as Android 6.0, software version 24.11.13. Yep, that’s Marshmallow alright.

So what’s new? Probably all of the same as the goodies in the update for the Moto X Pure Edition that started rolling out last week. And in reality, that just means you get what Google introduced in Marshmallow a couple of months ago, along with Moto’s suite of apps, which no longer includes Assist.

You get Doze, which might be the most underrated new Android feature in years. With Doze, your phone can sit idle for days and not die, as it simmers down and consumes little energy when not in use. As an example, just look at this screenshot from my Moto X Pure that I took a couple of days after it sat idle post-6.0 update. Pretty awesome, right?

You also get direct sharing with nearby folks who are on Marshmallow, better volume controls, easier word selection (cut, copy, paste, etc.), and almost everything else listed in this screenshot.

Let us know, non-Verizon employee Turbo 2 owners, if you see the update this week.

Share Your Holiday Travel Plans and Memories Through Inbox, Thanks to Update

With an update rolling out to Inbox, you will easily be able to share holiday itineraries with loved ones, then share the memories you make together after everyone goes home. When you have emails and calendar events regarding trip plans (flight info, car rentals, etc), Inbox recognizes this, bundling all of the info into a single itinerary. With the update, these plans can be shared with anyone you choose, allowing them to track your status right alongside you.

These bundles can be moved offline and stored directly on your smartphone or tablet, meaning you won’t need to worry about spotty WiFi on your flight to see what leg of the trip is up next.

Once the holiday cheer has been spread appropriately, it is time to go home. Undoubtedly, you may have taken photos during your trip, and the update to Inbox allows you to look through and attach multiple photos to a single email. From within the draft, you can view thumbnails for quicker adding of holiday photos, cutting down on the time it takes to get your mother those photos of the grandkids she is desperate for.

The update is rolling out to Google Play right now.

Buy a Galaxy S6 on AT&T, Get a Second Free With Start of New Line

From now until year’s end, if you purchase a Galaxy S6 through AT&T using the Next program, and start a second line, AT&T will gift you a second Galaxy S6 for free. The free phone will come via monthly bill credits that will cover the amount of the second device.

AT&T website states that this deal is also open to other select devices, but currently, they are not listing which phones are available for the promotion. In addition, when looking through the fine print of the promo, AT&T states that the buyer will need to pay three months of payments for the second phone until the monthly Next credits will kick in. That will cost about $65 for three months of payments.

If you planned on getting yourself and a loved one new phones for the holidays, click the link below.

Report: Samsung Galaxy S7 to Feature Pressure-Sensitive Display, Type-C Port, SD Card Slot

The Wall Street Journal thinks they have the inside scoop on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and its brother, the Galaxy S7 Edge. If a report published this morning turns out to be the real deal, then it sounds like we are in for a set of improvements that should remove many of the criticisms of this year’s flagships.

According to the WSJ, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will jump on Apple’s newly created pressure-sensitive display trend. Apple calls it 3D Touch, so I’m sure Samsung will come up with something clever to give it branding, but the basics will likely be the same as they are with Apple’s implementation. By pressing or tapping with different amounts of pressure, you could access hidden menus, see media in a different light, etc. Users who have managed to figure it out on the new iPhones seem to enjoy it, so it could be a welcome new addition to TouchWiz.

As for the rest of the phone, today’s report says that we should expect a USB Type-C port in each phone that will provide a full charge in “under” 30 minutes. Hopefully that means they are introducing faster charging and not a smaller battery. The WSJ also says that we should get a microSD card slot once again in the regular S7, new camera (probably this one) that will be sans protruding lens and instead lay flush with the phone’s back, and overall, a similar design to what we saw last year. Think of it like this year’s iPhones which were “S” models and mostly just internet improvements over the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. These new phones could just be a set of feature improvements over the S6 and S6 Edge with very similar overall hardware designs.

We may see a retina scanner in some models as well, though the WSJ doesn’t seem too confident in this feature. A retina scanner could be used for security purposes or other areas that we currently use fingerprints for verification. If I’m being honest, that seems like an expensive add-on that people may be reluctant to use.

As for timing of a launch, even though previous rumors all continue to point at a really early unveiling of some time in late January or early February, this report suggests that we won’t see the new devices until Samsung’s typical Galaxy S launch, which usually ends up around Mobile World Congress, an end of February tech event. The phones could then arrive with a matter of weeks to ride the hype train.

Thoughts?

DEAL: Buy Chromecast Get $20 Google Play Credit, Plus Buy 2 for $55

Google has made it cheaper than ever to buy the new Chromecast and Chromecast Audio, but they are also sweetening the deal by tossing in Google Play credit to the tune of $20.

So here is the deal. If you buy two Chromecast devices (that could be a mix of one Chromecast and one Chromecast Audio if you want), the bundle will cost you $55. That’s a good $15 savings off the top. Should you choose for the regular Chromecast (not the Audio), Google will also hand you a $20 Google Play gift card for each device. So you could buy two Chromecasts for $55, save $15 there, but then also see an extra $40 in Google Play credits from Google to spend as you please.

The $55 deal for two ends December 26. The $20 Google Play credits deal ends January 2.
