Latest Cyanogenmod update for your OnePlus One killing your battery? You’re not alone

OnePlus One battery

It was just a few days ago that we told you about an OTA update rolling out to your OnePlus One, to Cyanogenmod 11S firmware version 30O. Along with a long list of goodies to be excited about, as it turns out, the update contains a couple little battery drain bugs that may be forcing you to plug-in a little more often than you might like.

Luckily, the issues have been noted and have the appropriate issue tracker entries to see to a fix.

Our understanding is that, as explained by Steve Kondik, there are two issues here. The first is a power management bug that has already been fixed; should you have opted in to the nightly builds there is a good chance you’ve already got the fix. Stable release users can expect the repairs in the next OTA update, whenever that my come around.

Cyanogenmod OnePlus One wakelocks

The second noted battery drain issue relates to the proximity sensor, which enters a “bad” state. The result of the ‘race condition’ behind this bad state is that your device experiences excessive wakelocks and is never allowed to fully suspend. Unfortunately, there is no fix identified just yet, nor an ETA for the update that will repair things, but you can always keep tabs on the issue yourself if you’d like to be more involved.

Hopefully the fix is not too far out, and the resulting battery drain is not causing you too much grief. While I don’t recommend jumping ship just yet, I should at least mention that there are other ROMs out there for your OnePlus One, like Paranoid Android, as an example.

Is anyone out there experiencing these battery drain issues, how bad is it for you?

Upcoming App Clover Aims To Bring Erotic Entertainment To Your Doorstep [NSFW]

Clover

Just like everything else in this world erotic entertainment has found a way to make itself not only more efficient, but also more accessible to would be clients/connoisseurs of such services. You can call and order up taxi rides using services like Uber and Lyft, and even with an app called Drizly(although it doesn’t seem to have expanded into many areas yet)you can order up beer, wine, or liquor of your choosing and have it delivered to you in 20-40 minutes. All of these services can be provided to you through the interface of mobile apps, and Clover is a service that is looking to be able to do the same thing for people who are on the hunt for erotic entertainment.

Clover is claiming to be the first and only app to match entertainers and clients together on demand, and after a verified background check you can go about searching for the entertainment that you’re looking for, with promises that Clover keeps your information(meaning activity, transactions and history)secure. The background checks are an obvious necessity and one directed specifically at the entertainers it would seem, but Clover adds an “extra layer” of security for you,the client, and the entertainers as well by giving either one the capability to press the “clover” button within the application down for five seconds, which immediately sends your location to the local authorities in your area. Now that’s an embarrassing scenario to have to deal with and explain but safety comes first right?

Clover gives users the ability to customize the type of entertainment they’re looking for, right down to the search distance from an entertainer, whether users are looking for male or female, age range, and even traits like hair color. After users “choose their type,” both parties then have to accept, and then having an entertainer show up on your doorstep is as easy as one tap away and then simply waiting for the moment when you need to open up the door. Clover also mentions that entertainers keep virtually all of the income that they get through services used by the app, so, good for the entertainers it seems. The app is poised to show up on Android as well as iOS, although it isn’t up and running just yet. You can however head to the companies website and reserve access to the entertainment when it goes live. Any takers?

Humble Bundle update brings performance and visual overhaul, brings music and ebooks along for the ride

HUMBLE BUNDLE ICON

If you’re anything like us, you’ve built up quite a library of Android titles thanks to Humble Bundle’s reoccurring game sales. It was back in September of last year we told you guys about the Humble Bundle app to help you keep track of your hoarding habits. While it was certainly better than nothing, the app — which launched in beta — was riddled with bugs and shoddy performance. Needless to say, we avoided the app when possible.

Humble Bundle update

But those days are a thing of the past, with the folks at Humble Bundle finally bringing their app out of beta and giving it a complete overhaul in the latest update. The 2.0.1 update manages to patch up bugs and finally introduces buttery smooth performance (seriously, it was unusable before). Along with 99.9% less suckage and cleaned up visuals, the app is no longer just about games, allowing users to download music and ebooks purchased through Humble Bundle sales.

We have to say, we love what they’ve done with the place and we can’t help but think that at this rate, they’ll soon have their own app store. Really, what’s stopping them?

Wally is a new wallpaper app that goes hard on Material Design, animations and all

Wally Material Design wallpaper app

Can’t remember the last time we’ve installed a wallpaper app, but newcomer Wally has definitely piqued our interest. The fun new wallpaper app features a healthy dose of Google’s Material Design elements, probably more so than any other Android app currently available in Google Play. The best part is you don’t even need to have a device running Android L to partake in this, with all the animations and color transitions working beautifully on our HTC One M8. The app pulls images from Wallbase and features:

  • Browse and save/set wallpapers

  • Filter wallpapers by time span, categories, resolution, and/or aspect ratio

  • Search by text and/or color

  • Browse random wallpapers

  • Browse your saved wallpapers

Even if you’re already using something else along the lines of Muzei, you’re going to want to give Wally a download if you want a hint of what’s to come in Android L. Wally can be downloaded for free via the Google Play link below.

Samsung purchases smart home company SmartThings for $200

smartthings

Home automation and connected appliances are both markets that big companies are trying to break into, including Google (which scooped up Nest not too long ago), LG, and Apple. To stay competitive, Samsung has announced that they have bought SmartThings, a relatively new company founded on KickStarter, for $200 million. Samsung says that SmartThings will continue to run independently, but some employees are going to shift around to Palo Alto where Samsung’s Open Innovation Center is located.

Since they will continue to operate as a separate business, SmartThings seems to be happy about the purchase since they will benefit from Samsung’s large portfolio of of home appliances, plus their development expertise and deep pockets. The company has managed to rack up about $15 million in funding from backers, but Samsung will be able to push that much higher.

SmartThings creates home kits that allow users to connect things like lights and locks and other home devices to a WiFi network, which can then be manipulated by a mobile phone app. They have tried to keep their platform extremely open so anyone can create an app to take advantage of their connected devices, and they want their software to be available on as many operating systems and platforms as possible. So far, it’s worked out, so hopefully Samsung doesn’t force a change in direction.

Have you experiemented with any smart home devices yet? Is an acquisition like this enough to make you want to?

Clover: like Uber for erotic entertainers [NSFW]

clover

Technology strives to provide tools for every person and every industry – tools that all fit in the palm of your hand. Smartphones have revolutionized the way we handle information and communications. These devices are sewing themselves into the very fabric of society, turning apps and services into instruments that serve all pre-existing societal necessities; whether they are ethical, legal or not.

Enter Clove, the first app to ease transactions and communications between adult entertainers and clients.

Adult entertainment is no stranger to this technological revolution, an industry that has been known for adopting technology at its early stages. We haven’t seen private erotic entertainers join the party in substantial proportions, though. Enter Clove, the first app to ease transactions and communications between adult entertainers and clients.

What does it do, exactly? It’s a bit odd. It works much like Uber does. Clients and entertainers can both sign up to use the intriguing service. Some will sign up as workers, while others would sign up as customers. After passing a security background check, strippers can get working and users can start seeking their fun nights (or days).

mobile-devices-clover

Clients can easily customize their preferences, choosing between sexes, distances, ages, hair colors and the like. Look around, choose your favorites and after a few taps your entertainers will be on their way to your door.

In short: Clover is like a... pimp for strippers.

In short: Clover is like a… pimp for strippers. Save for the furry coats, luxurious canes and the common abuse. It’s the ultimate pimp! In fact, entertainers keep all their earnings. The app also doubles as an accountant/manager of sorts, working as a tracker for both income and client satisfaction.

If all those nifty features weren’t sufficient, Clover also adds a layer of security this industry has never seen before. The client or entertainer can hold the Clover button at any time, an action that will trigger an alert and send your location to local authorities.

The app is on it’s way, headed to both Android and iOS. The fun still hasn’t arrived, but candidates can now reserve access from the Clover website. Now, excuse me while I go discuss our review plans with the team.

OnePlus One Owners Report Battery Issues After Latest Update, Fixes In Tow

OnePlus-One-portrait

OnePlus One owners may want to take note here, as the details of the latest update may have an adverse effect on how you use your device. According to people who have gotten the most recent update and posted their experiences to the CyanogenMod issue tracker, the update version XNPH30O which is coming to users over-the-air is causing the battery life to decrease significantly to the point where it isn’t lasting very long. So, if you haven’t done this update yet it might be advantageous to hold off until there is a fix already out there. The good news is that the team at CynogenMod has narrowed down the two issues being reported and is preparing a fix for both. It likely won’t take long before it’s out, but if it takes till the end of the day for example and you have the update already notifying you, we’d suggest waiting.

The issue tracker is what CyanogenMod has set in place to allow its users to express issues with bugs or other known problems that they’re having, and the thread that was created due to this issue has numerous images posted along with about 118 comments on the matter. Some of them from users and owners of the OnePlus One, and others from community mod and CyanogenMod founder Steve Kondik discussing the issue. As we stated, the good news is that it appears there are fixes on the way.

Kondik explains both issues, one of which is related to the proximity sensor, the other relating to the power management. The former issue Kondik says is due to the inability to essentially leave wakelock, although he explains it as the phone not being able to enter into a completely suspended state, which is causing people’s devices to stay awake. The problem is allegedly due to the proximity sensor entering into a “bad” state, and the CM team, now seemingly aware of the problem is working on a fix. The power management issue is already nipped and a fix will likely be out before the end of the day or whenever they drop the nightly build. If you’re running a stable build of CM11S, an OTA is said to be on the way as well.

Sprint to introduce ‘aggressive’ pricing plans next week as new CEO attempts to shake up the industry

sprint-store1

Ask just about anyone and it’s clear the wireless industry could use a little more shaking up. While we applaud the strides T-Mobile has made in recent months, it’s time for the nation’s other major wireless providers to take the initiative instead of simply following T-Mobile’s lead. No doubt feeling the heat of T-Mobile’s explosive customer growth, Sprint could be finally ready to make some big moves of their own.

During a company “town hall meeting,” newly appointed CEO Marcelo Claure mentioned his plan to introduce a “disruptive” new wireless plan next week. Of course, that might not sound too enticing especially if you (or someone close to you) has ever had to endure Sprint’s painfully slow network. Claure knows this, acknowledging Sprint’s network as “falling behind” and the reason they have to compete with aggressive pricing in the first place. He goes onto to say that in addition to cutting prices, Sprint will work on further overhauling their network, while reducing operational costs.

With T-Mobile closing in quick on Sprint’s #3 spot, they better do something fast. Hopefully the new change in management will be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Peculiar LightFreq smart bulb doubles as a wireless speaker

lightfreq-1

It would be hard to believe a bluetooth speaker could be stuck inside a light bulb, a feat LightFreq has managed to shatter with its new product. LightFreq mixes both sound and light for an experience that only makes sense, but hasn’t quite been exploited. As CEO Devin mentions, “light and sound have always gone hand in hand.”

Aside from the helpful multi-colored LED lighting, LightFreq sports built-in HD audio, in addition to featuring Bleutooth and WiFi connectivity. The device can do everything you imagine and more. It can easily replicate what Phillips’ Hue does, allowing you to customize color notifications to work along with your smartphone. The addition of bluetooth speakers also makes these great party accessories, as the light can change colors and follow the beat of your tunes.

Those are features we have all seen, now let’s jump into how sound and light can make for a unique experience in tandem. A unique feature is that you can have your music and/or light follow you throughout the house, as you move from room to room (so long as you are carrying your smartphone).

Another unique feature is the light bulb’s intercom capabilities. It’s possible to use smartphones to speak through LightFreqs across a house or business, making them simple and fast communications tools. You really can’t get much better than this when it comes to finding the right smart light bulb. The deal gets even sweeter if you were already thinking of getting a wireless speaker.

How do I get it?

lightfreq-3

This project sounds like the perfect Kickstarter sensation, and that it is. LightFreq has taken the crowd sourcing road and has already doubled its $50,000 goal. You can still get your hands on a LightFreq by pledging as little as $70. Their Kickstarter page does offer more intricate demos and videos, so give it a look if you are interested in this noteworthy smart bulb.
