Verizon Nexus 6 Launch Is Apparently Getting Closer Based On Leaked Merchandising Material Label

Google’s Nexus 6 is still a new device to the market. Although, we have the latest devices landing in the form of the HTC One M9 and the Samsung Galaxy S6, the Nexus 6 is still less than 6 months old. Although with these new devices landing, the Nexus 6 does not seem ‘as new’ anymore. However, in spite of whether you think of the Nexus 6 as new or not, it is still very much a brand new device in Verizon’s eyes. That is because they still have not got their hands on their own carrier branded edition. The Verizon Nexus 6 has been on the cards and apparently en-route for months now. Well, pretty much since the device launched.

To be fair, it does seem to be getting closer to a launch. Back at the start of February was when the details really started to suggest the carrier was about to launch the device. In fact, by February 6th, there was even a firm date being touted. This was February 26th and considered to be the actual launch date. However, as February 26th approached (and went) there was no sign of the Verizon Nexus 6. That said, on the 26th there was a video which suddenly appeared which did confirm that February 26th was indeed supposed to be the actual launch date. However, the launch did not happen.

Well, the latest on this front is that it sees the launch is indeed getting closer. Phone Arena (source link below) have received an image (shown below) from someone who apparently works at a third-party Verizon store. The image shows what seems to be a labeled package which presumably contains launch material (POS) for the Nexus 6. The label does clearly state “VZW Merchandising Material” and does clearly state “Nexus 6 Launch”. Of course, what the material does not state is an actual date and as such there is still no firm indication of when the Verizon Nexus 6 will appear. Although, at least if stores are beginning to receive merchandising materials, then the assumption would be that they are gearing up for an actual launch. Samsung Acquires Electronics Company YESCO For Its LED Technology

Samsung Electronics has snatched up a US based company called YESCO Electronics, who specializes in manufacturing LED displays. YESCO is based out of Utah, and Samsung has announced the acquisition as of today according to the Wall Street Journal. What isn’t known is what exactly Samsung paid to purchase YESCO as it’s likely Samsung wants to keep those details away from the public. Samsung already makes a number of their displays with LED light technology in them, as many of their mobile devices use Super AMOLED displays for example.

While Samsung is keeping the details of the acquisition cost quiet, they have mentioned the reasons for purchasing up the company, which is a mutual benefit for both companies to help make long lasting displays. In a statement to the WSJ, Samsung says that they’re goal is to “work with YESCO Electronics to deliver durable, long-lasting displays geared for varied and extreme conditions.” It’s unclear at this point if Samsung has additional plans for YESCO other than using part of their technology to create displays that are marketed towards extreme conditions, however it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Samsung to roll some of this tech into their own display technology down the line for its wide variety of products.

This acquisition of YESCO follows the announcement that Samsung was picking up LoopPay, a popular mobile payments company that developed a mobile payment solution technology called MST, which Samsung is now using in their new Samsung Pay service. LoopPay’s technology has allowed Samsung to set themselves up with a mobile payment solution that will be more compatible than its main rival, Apple Pay, thanks to the ability of Samsung Pay being readable by mag stripe machines. Consumers will be able to use Samsung Pay by simply tapping the back of either the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge(the first two phones which will debut with Samsung Pay when they launch)to a magnetic stripe reader at checkouts in potentially millions of retailer locations. In the same way Samsung is using LoopPay’s technology to further their own mobile offerings, they could end up using YESCO to help create more durable displays for its mobile products as well as TV’s monitors and anything else Samsung puts a display on.

Kaspersky Report Shows Financial Attacks On Android Devices Tripled In 2014

It is no secret that mobile devices are becoming more targeted by criminals. After all, they are also becoming far more entwined with our lives as a whole. As a result, they know more about us, hold more information about us and therefore, reveal more information about us. This is why they are and will continue to be a viable platform for criminals to focus their efforts on. What’s more, with android being the dominant platform in the world and over a billion android divices out there, it makes sense for criminals to focus attempts on the android platform. Thus increasing the chance of a user falling foul to identify theft.

Following on from this, known internet security solution provider Kaspersky Lab have this morning released their findings from their Financial Cyberthreats in 2014 report (source link below). The big headline from the report is that their software found the number of financial attacks experienced by android users in 2014 had more than tripled compared to the previous year. This saw the number of attacks reaching 2,317,194 which is up from 2013’s figure of 711,993. Likewise, this also saw a more than trebling in the number of users attacked, rising from 212,890 up to 775,887. It will be not be a surprise that financial attacks are increasing at such a speedy rate as financial data is such a sought after commodity. In fact the same report detailed that 48.15% of all attacks noted by Kaspersky software were attacks which specifically targeted financial data.

In terms of the actual attacks, it seems two particular malware were responsible for virtually all the attacks. These are what is known as Trojan-SMS malware and Trojan-Banker malware. Of the two, the former (SMS) was the sheer overriding culprit and responsible for 2,217,979 of the 2,317,194 attacks noted. This is where the malware tries to connect with an outside source via SMS. It had been believed that this sort of attack was decreasing due to the use of Advice of Charge (AoC) technology built into newer platforms where the user is advised of outgoing texts. However the latest report shows the Trojan-SMS seemed to be making a return towards the end of the year. In contrast, the Trojan-Banker malware which only accounted for 99,215 of the attacks is when the malware looks to steal the user’s online banking credentials and CC information. This is achieved by replicated and replacing the input boxes on apps which is used to authenticate the user. The service allows California residents to compare auto insurance side by side. According to the announcement, Compare provides a seamless, intuitive experience for insurance carriers to connect with customers online, whether you’re a local or national provider.

For customers, you’ll be able to compare insurance on either your phone or computer in about five minutes. Carriers will be able to highlight what separates their company from the others and customers will be able to adjust deductibles, add or remove cars and see updated prices as such. Then customers will be able to purchase said insurance over the Internet or on the phone.

The service is set roll out to other states and Google Compare will add other features like ratings, reviews and local agent support. Google says that while Compare is based on a flexible cost-per-acquisition (CPA) model, payments do not influence ranking and eligibility.

Google Calendar 5.1 Hotfix Update Fixes The 'Unable To Launch Event' Error When Downloading APKs And Other Files [APK Download]

When Google updated Calendar to version 5.1 last week, it introduced a bug that hit users with an "unable to launch event" message whenever they tried to launch an APK downloaded using Chrome or the stock Android browser. Now the company has pushed out a hotfix update intended to do away with the problem.

This bug prevented some users from launching the apps they downloaded in our APK download posts, but we were able to get around this issue by rolling out a server tweak for APK Mirror.
