Leaked Samsung list reveals when older devices will see Android 4.4 Kitkat
If you’re rocking an older Samsung device and are ready to make the jump to KitKat, the wait can certainly seem to take forever. If you find yourself longing for more details about when your handset will finally see the update, we might just have what you are looking for.
SamMobile has gotten its hands on what appears to be an internal Samsung document that the site says they have confirmed as legit. As you can see in the chart below, at least three devices will see KitKat this month: the Note II LTE, Galaxy Note 3 Neo and the Galaxy S3 LTE. In fact, the latter of these devices has already seen an update on Sprint’s network.
The list also includes devices like the Galaxy S4 Mini, S4 Mini LTE, Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 — all of which are expected to receive updates sometime in June. Now obviously the dates on this list are subject to change, so don’t be too shocked if your device gets an update before or after these estimated dates. Also, just because your device isn’t on the list doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll never see KitKat.
As for owners of the non-LTE version of the Galaxy S3? Reportedly the device has ran into troubles with “unresolved problems”, so it’s very likely going to be left out of the dark, at least for now.

LG rolling out new smart appliances, controlled by text messages
We are in an age where everything seems to be getting smarter: our phones, our TVs, our cars, our light bulbs and even our general appliances. The only thing that arguably isn’t on the list are people, but I digress. In their quest to make our appliances “even better”, LG has now announced it is now rolling out its previously unveiled Smart Refrigerator, Washing Machine and Lighwave Oven, which all utilize LG’s LINE app and LG’s WiFi-based Homechat system.
The idea is that you can text messages directly to these appliances to get status reports on what they are doing, such as whether your washer is rinsing or if it’s finished the load. The smart oven also has recipe recommendations, the ability to remotely set the temperature via text and so much more. Then there’s the smart fridge, which creepily watches your food with its built-in wide-angle camera and then tracks what food your are taking out in order to generate shopping lists and learn about your food habits.
LG isn’t telling us the pricing just yet, but the appliances are expected to arrive to the U.S. and other major markets in the near future. Whether such smart appliances are really that much more useful or convenient than traditional ones probably is a matter of personal preference. What do you think, like the idea of chatting it up with your favorite appliances?

Galaxy S5 Dx (Mini) spotted on Samsung’s UK site?
Take this report with a grain of salt, because, while it comes from the highly reliable @evleaks , its actual source is a poor quality screenshot the leaker received as a tip.
So, what are we looking at here? Judging from the URL in the screenshot (assuming it wasn’t tampered with), the device in question is the SM-G800, a designation that in the past was associated with the upcoming Galaxy S5 Mini.
However, Samsung may be forgoing the Mini moniker in favor of the new “Galaxy S5 Dx” branding, possibly to make it sound more dynamic. Supporting this theory are the new color options in the screenshot, which include lime and orange, in addition to the S5’s black, blue, and white.
While the design of the S5 Dx/Mini is largely similar to its bigger brother’s, the obvious change is the absence of the heart rate monitor on the back of the phone. That’s understandable considering the mid-range pedigree of Samsung’s Mini phones. The Korean company may be trying to push customers towards its Gear 2 and Gear Fit wearables, which both include heart rate monitors and are better suited for the task.
In terms of specifications, an earlier leak mentioned a 4.5-inch 720 AMOLED panel, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera. These are all decent specs for a device of this caliber, provided the price will be good enough (read – competitive with the Moto G). No info yet on the release date of the Galaxy S5 Dx/Mini, but it shouldn’t be too far.

CyanogenMod nightly builds for HTC One (M8) coming from today
The CyanogenMod team just announced the release of nightly CM 11 builds for the critically acclaimed HTC One (M8).
The device will bear the M8 codename and builds will be available for the GSM, Verizon, and Sprint versions. If you aren’t sure what version you own, you can run a simple ADB command to check, with the following possible returns:
- # 0P6B10000 – International
- # 0P6B12000 – AT&T/Dev Edition
- # 0P6B13000 – T-Mobile
- # 0P6B16000 – Telus/Rogers (Canada)
- # 0P6B20000 – Verizon
- # 0P6B70000 – Sprint
The command is ‘adb shell getprop ro.boot.mid‘. As advised by the CM team in this Google Plus post, if you run a custom recovery on your M8, make sure it’s compatible with the following variants: m8, m8wl, m8wlv, m8vzw, m8whl, and m8spr.
At the time of this writing, the One (M8) CM11 nightly builds are not up just yet, but they should become available in a matter of hours on the download page.
Nightly builds of CyanogenMod, commonly called nightlies, are builds that incorporate any changes made in the previous day of development. As such, they are considered the cutting-edge in terms of new features, but they are also inherently less stable and less polished.
If nightlies are not stable enough for your taste, you should opt for Milestone releases, which have replaced the old Stables/Release Candidates and are generally solid enough for daily usage even by less experienced users. The most recent Milestone is M6, and the next one should land in the next 2-4 weeks. When it’s released, M7 will probably be available for the HTC One (M8) as well, but for now, you will have to do with nightlies.
