[Leak] Download Lollipop LRX21P Factory Image for 2012 Nexus 7 WiFi

image

Sometimes late nights lead to interesting tips finding their way into our inbox. Tonight was just such a night. If you've been waiting to get a taste of Lollipop on your Nexus 7 2012, you're in luck. We just happen to have signed factory images for Google's original 7" tablet. The build is LRX21P, which lines up with builds we've seen on the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player (LRX21L and LRX21M respectively).

Here are the new features coming to Android Wear

LG_G_Watch_R_World_Clock_Watch_Face_02_TA

The Android Wear app should be getting a pretty hefty update very soon. The app will obviously be transformed into Material Design, but a lot of goodies are in store.

Google is bringing the same battery information page for phones and tablets to Android Wear. You will be able to see what apps are affecting the battery as well as an estimated amount of remaining life. You will also be able to see how much of your storage is used.

The Android Wear app will now let you change your watch faces from within it. Of course the anticipated watch face API will release around the same time. With it brings the ability to add weather notifications to the faces. Here are the icons.

Android_Wear_5.0_Lollipop_Watchface_Weather-Icons The ability to recover a mistakenly dismissed card has been requested by a lot of users, and Google will deliver. If you mistakenly swipe away a card, you can swipe up to get an option to undo.

A quicker way to adjust screen brightness has also been a big request. Other apps like Wear Mini Launcher take care of that, but Google is looking to give us some quick options natively. They are adding Theater Mode and Sunlight Mode. We presume Theater Mode will bring it down to a brightness level of 1, which probably isn’t dim enough for the movie theater. We also presume that Sunlight Mode will adjust the brightness to a level of 6. These options will be found in the swipe down gesture on your watch face. Right now, you get battery information and the ability to silence notifications, but a new menu will be added.

Those of you with vision impairment will be happy to know that Google is adding new features such as large text, color inversion, and magnification gestures. All of these features will be in the Settings menu.

Currently, taking a screenshot from your Android Wear watch is an absolute chore since you have to connect it to your computer and ADB it. It will now be a lot easier with the new update as you will be able to capture them from the Android Wear app.

Last but not least, the OK Google menu will now be sorted based on your most used functions.

How do these new features sound to you? Is there anything else you were hoping for that didn’t make the cut? I would like to see the ability to adjust the brightness of the “Always On” display, but hopefully that will come at a later date.

YouTube music service said to be weeks away

youtube-logo_9339

I know it’s starting to sound like a broken record, but it’s being reported yet again that the YouTube music service is very close. According to the Financial Times, YouTube had been trying to close a deal with Merlin, a group that represents 20,000 indie music labels. After making offers as far back as June, YouTube finally sealed the deal.

It’s still very unclear what YouTube is going to offer as far as a music service goes. How does it fit in with Play Music? Hopefully we will find out soon enough.

TellTale’s Game of Thrones series is coming to Android soon

thrones coming

It’s been nearly a year since we last heard about TellTale’s Game of Thrones game coming to Android. It seems we’re getting very close to a release now. TellTale tweeted that episode one of six will be released very soon. Since this game was announced way back in 2013 we hope to see it before another year ends.

The Game of Thrones game will be similar to TellTale’s previous Walking Dead and Back to the Future series. It will be released in episodes like a TV show. Decisions you make will determine outcomes and future choices in the game. There still aren’t a lot of details on the actual story, but since the game is in partnership with HBO we know it will be based on the show and not the books.

Do we have any big Game of Thrones or TellTale fans? Will you be buying this game when it gets released? Have you played TellTale’s previous Android games?

LG’s new “Aka” phones are really weird

wut.0

LG has aways been a company that pushes the boundaries of what smartphones can do. In the past they’ve made nearly square devices and devices with curved displays, but now they are going to a new level of weird. LG has introduced a new line of mid-range phones in Korea dubbed “Aka.” The line consists of four “characters” with unique personalities.

The four characters include Eggy, Wooky, Soul, and YoYo. Eggy falls in love easily, Wooky talks in sland, Soul loves beer, and YoYo gains and loses weight a lot. We’re not making this up. The idea is that user will gravitate towards a personality instead of specs. When the Aka devices are idle you can see big eyes that blink and stair at you.

We can see these devices selling very well in Korea, which is where they will most likely stay. It’s an interesting tactic to sell mid-range devices. If the specs alone can’t tempt buyers give them something unique to use. Would you ever be interested in these devices? What do you think about phones having “personalities?”

Nexus 9 vs. iPad Air 2: A [Mostly] Subjective Comparison

DSC05675

DISCLAIMER: I bought an iPad Air 2, and I bought said iPad Air 2 after owning the first iPad Air since launch day last year. I sold my iPad Air so I could do this. I really like my iPad Air 2, it's pretty great. I also really like Android. The following article contains my opinions, anecdotal evidence, subjective analysis thereof, and did I mention opinions? There are opinions. Also, this article is very long, so many sections just have side-by-sides of random Android vs iOS app comparisons presented without comment.
