Motorola drops four new apps on the Play Store for 2014 Moto X

Moto_X_2014_Moto_Display_TA Motorola has released four new applications onto the Play Store for the release of the 2014 Moto X. Last year, Motorola separated several of their apps from the core software of the Moto X and uploaded them to the Play Store to allow quick updates without a complete OTA rollout. It was a successful strategy and we’ve seen other manufacturers do the same things with their newer devices.

These four new apps are Moto Actions, Moto Display, Motorola Sensor Services, and an app just called Moto. The Moto Actions app handles the gestures that Motorola has been showing off with their new device. It looks like it’ll give you an explanation of each gesture and let you toggle specific gestures on and off. The Moto Display app is the advanced version of Active Display from last year’s Moto X, and it is indeed separate from the Play Store listing for Active Display.

The Motorola Sensor Services app doesn’t look like it actually does much aside from keeping your sensor firmware up to date, which will be useful when Moto needs to squash some bugs after big updates. The Moto app looks pretty vague, but it could be a help application or just a hub for getting to some of the Moto X’s more personalized settings.

You can check out the links for these apps below, but unless you’re using a 2014 Moto X, it doesn’t look like you’ll be able to do much with them.

Adobe’s EchoSign e-signature service brought over to Android

adobe_echosign_app_icon

EchoSign is an electronic signature service that has been around for a few years, but it was not until today that Adobe released it as an Android app. Users can e-sign, send, and receive documents right from their mobile device with EchoSign. It works with documents from Google Drive, Box, Evernote, and Acrobat with presumably more support on the way. EchoSign is optimized for Android tablets and works with your choice of a finger or stylus to complete the e-signature.

HTC and Sprint announce the mid-range Desire 510

htc_desire_510_white HTC and Sprint have announced availability for the Desire 510 on the carrier’s network, and if you’re on any of Sprint’s prepaid or postpaid networks, it’s looking like you’ll be able to get your hands on the device. For Sprint Easy Pay customers, you can own the device for just $9 per month for two years, and Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile will carry it with a $99 price tag.

Sprint hasn’t changed the specs of the device at all, so you’ll get Qualcomm’s zippy Snapdragon 400 64-bit CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 4.7-inch display. At the price point that the 510 is being offered, it’s a hard phone to beat.

If you’re interested in picking this phone up, you can get it on Sprint on September 19th, and Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile on the 23rd.

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet with 4G LTE and 32GB of storage up for pre-order

nvidia_shield_tablet_4g_lte_32gb

The SHIELD Tablet is a pretty good device as is. It has a well-sized display, front speakers, a stylus, and the power of an NVIDIA processor. The two things that the SHIELD Tablet has lacked — a 4G LTE connection and additional internal storage — is arriving soon. The SHIELD Tablet with 4G LTE and 32GB of storage is now up for pre-order. It costs an additional $100 over the standard 16GB model, priced at $399.

The SHIELD Tablet with 4G LTE and 32GB of storage is certified to work on AT&T’s network. For activating the SHIELD Tablet at AT&T, the carrier will credit $100 to a customer’s bill. So there is a bit of an incentive to use the tablet with AT&T. Of course, it will also work with T-Mobile’s network as well.

Android 4.4.4 Kernel Source Code For The Spice, Micromax, And Karbonn Android One Phones Available Now

sourcecode Getting the kernel source code for devices is something of a right of passage for new Android phones. In the United States and other parts of the world with heavy smartphone penetration, the focus is on the big, flashy flagship models - the sooner the kernels are published, the sooner those ROM makers can get cracking on custom ROMs and kernels. But considering the immediate response that Google's Android One program has received, I think those phones may turn out to be some of the most popular ROM recipients around.

ZTE announces the ZMAX with T-Mobile as the exclusive carrier

zte_zmax

Today, ZTE announced a new device with a massive display that will be available exclusively through T-Mobile. The ZMAX is a mid-range handset with a 5.7-inch display. To keep costs down, the resolution of the display is 1280×720 and the processor inside is the Snapdragon 400. The standout of the ZMAX is its battery life. It can last two days on average thanks to a 3400mAh battery.

Everything else about the ZMAX is reasonable and completely capable. An 8MP camera capable of recording 1080p video is on the back and a 1.6MP camera sits on the front. The internal storage is 16GB and ZTE included a microSD card slot. Also, it ships with Android 4.4 KitKat.

The ZTE ZMAX will arrive online and at T-Mobile stores on September 24 for $10.50 per month for twenty-four months. MetroPCS will follow in carrying the ZMAX later this year.

ZTE Makes It Easy to Live Large with the New ZMAX Phablet at T-Mobile

Large on battery life and screen size, yet oh so easy to hold, Un-carrier™ customers can get more of what they want with the ZTE ZMAX starting September 24

RICHARDSON, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)– ZTE USA, the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the U.S.*, today introduced the ZTE ZMAX at its launch event in New York City and announced the phone’s exclusive availability with T-Mobile beginning September 24. This beautiful, value priced LTE smartphone with a 5.7 inch HD screen heightens performance and class in the mid-range market, giving T-Mobile customers more choice and exceptional value they’ve come to expect. The phone’s 3400 mAh battery is one of the highest-capacity batteries on the market and, under normal usage, lasts two days on average with a single charge. The ZTE ZMAX has a curved smooth back and slender build that gives the word phablet a whole new feeling.

“The ZMAX is the latest example of ZTE designing devices with the user in mind. Let the tinkering begin – Android One KitKat kernel source released

Android One devices have finally launched in India this week and multiple devices are available. These Android One smartphones are great to have as super affordable devices, even if they do have their flaws. We all know the fun part of Android is that developers and fans can tinker with the hardware and software, though.

After all, we do want to make the best out of these cheap, yet limited smartphones. This is why Google has just released the Android One KitKat kernel source.

Today we pushed the kernel source for the Android One device family. The kernel source can be found on the android-msm-sprout-3.4-kitkat-mr2 branch in the kernel/msm project. It’s also tagged with ‘android-4.4.4_r3′. -Bill Yi

With three devices in the market, we are sure more than a few fellow Indian techies would love to play around with this.

Gotta love this Android One initiative. The software is open sourced and the hardware is amazingly affordable. And now you can start working on them. Enjoy!

The ZTE ZMAX Has A Big Screen, A Huge Battery, And A Small $252 Price Tag, Coming To T-Mobile Next Week

carousel-zte-zmax-all-380x380-1 People seem to love gigantic screens on their phones - just ask Samsung (or Apple). And of course, plenty of customers want phones that are cheap, or at least cheaper than the flagships. And the one thing that everyone wants is longer battery life. ZTE and T-Mobile are going to try to please the intersection of these market segments with the ZMAX, a big phone with a big battery and (impressively) a small price tag.
