eBay just loves discounting that 2013 Nexus 7, or at least a lot of the merchants that use eBay do. Google's perennial 7-inch tablet is back on the Daily Deal list, this time in a 32GB Wi-Fi flavor. The tablet is going for $159.99, a full $110 off of the retail price in the Play Store, so long as you're OK with a refurbished unit. According to the listing, this particular model is an Asus Authorized Refurbished product with a 90 day warranty from the manufacturer.
[Deal Alert] eBay's Nexus 7 2013 Deal Is Back: 32GB Refurbished Model Is Going For $159.99 With Free Shipping was written by the awesome team at Android Police.
As we near the probable launch of Android L and the next Nexus tablet and phone, we’re starting to see more Material Design themed apps make it into the Play Store or update their already existing apps UI to better evoke the Material Design style. One that we want to bring attention to is an app called Weather Timeline, because hey everyone needs the weather forecast at some point or another and why not have a weather app that brings some fresh new style to the mix?
There are undoubtedly many great weather apps out there, some of which have had their apps available for years, and you can even get your simple weather needs from Google Now or have them displayed through widgets like Zooper Pro. With both those apps though there is at least some other information floating around that have nothing to with weather, where as Weather Timeline is simply a forecast app to give you the weather conditions for the next few hours or the entire next week.
Everything gets displayed in an easy to digest timeline format so you can basically scroll through and see the weather for your local area or where ever you wish to check right down to the hour. There’s no lush 3D effects and eye popping visuals, which actually makes looking for the desired information feel less distracting and more streamlined. There is still some cool visual flare though, as you’ll see that the timeline displays big plashes of color to correspond with what the weather conditions are like. You’ll also see some small animations on things like the white icons that depict the weather condition, and my personal favorite is the loading menu you see when you open up the integrated calendar and select a new date to check the weather for, which shows you an animated icon of the time machine DeLorean from Back To The Future accompanied by a quirky little message that says, “traveling through time.” There is definitely a lot of attention to the smaller details here. If what you’re looking for is a simpler looking forecast app that feeds you all the relevant data you could ever need, yet manages to stay looking elegant and feel smooth, drop the $0.99 and check out Weather Timeline.

Announced earlier this year, Toshiba’s latest Chromebook is now available. And it features the Intel Bay Trail processor inside. Toshiba hasn’t been very popular in terms of Chromebooks, but they do look a lot like Apple’s Macbook Air’s. This one is starting at $250, and has a 13.3-inch display along with the Intel Celeron N2840 Bay Trail Processor. It also has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 1366×768 resolution display. Toshiba has rated it at 11 hours of battery. Which is just insane. Then there’s the $330 model which has all the same specs except for 4GB of RAM, 1920×1080 resolution display and 9 hours of battery life. A bit less battery, but still plenty for most people.
The cheap Toshiba model is shipping now, with the $330 model up for pre-order right now on Amazon’s website. We’ve got links down below for those interested in picking either of these up. They appear to be pretty good Chromebooks for the price. As most of them are 11 inchers, and these are 13 inchers, it’s nice to see a bit of a bump in the size. This is just my opinion, but I feel like the 13.3-inch laptops/Chromebooks are the perfect size, as 11.6 is just too small and the 15 inchers are a bit too big, especially for portability.
There are lots of other Chromebooks out there, including a number of them from Acer, Samsung, HP, and now ASUS as well. It’s going to be interesting to see how these from Toshiba stack up against the competition. How many of you are interested in this Toshiba Chromebook 2? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Not too long ago in the past Instagram launched a new application to the iOS app store called Hyperlapse, which basically allows the user to capture awesome timelapse videos. We learned about this app prior to the iOS launch and were intrigued because there was talk about an Android application being in the works. According to The Verge and Instagram though, an Android version of Hyperlapse is nowhere in the near future which means we’ll still have to resort to making time lapse videos the old fashioned way, dedicated camera equipment.
While this is surely a disappointment to those that may have been excited about the application making its way over to Android, and the hope that soon would be part of the next words spoken about Instagrams new photo tool is now lost, at least Instagram offers up some explanation as to why they won’t be launching Hyperlapse to the Play Store right now. It apparently all breaks down to the simple fact that Android just doesn’t have the correct APIs that Instagram needs for the Hyperlapse app to work. The good news though is that at some point if these APIs become available and Instagram is able to get what they need, they should be able to get the app up and running and that still leaves some hope that the app will still make its way to the OS, just not right now.
Instagram has apparently stated though that they still hope to bring the app to Android at some point, which is one more reason to keep the dream alive that soon you’ll be able to create some stunning time lapse videos using your Android device down the road. Instagram itself took quite a long time to jump platforms, so the silver lining perhaps might be that we should hopefully see a much shorter waiting period for this new photo tool they have created, although there is no way to know that at the moment. In the mean time there are still a good number of other great applications you can use to make your Android photos and videos look more lively, stunning, and otherwise creative, if that’s what you’re seeking.

Yesterday we wrote an article about how pre-ordered Moto X’s were beginning to ship from AT&T and Motorola, and now today we learned that the device will also be on sale through Verizon beginning today. Unfortunately today we have to follow up that good news with some bad news. Currently, if you attempt to purchase a 2014 Moto X through MotoMaker you will see a message that reads “Orders with white front are on back order and will ship within 4 weeks.” That’s a 4 week delay folks, not good news for Motorola right now.
Luckily if you order any other type of 2014 Moto X it will not be delayed, it will still have the typical 12 day estimate to receive the device. Motorola has said that the reason behind the 4 week delay of the white front is due to “unexpected demand”, something nobody really saw coming, apparently not even Motorola. Some users are even reporting that orders with white fronts placed before this ordeal are being affected by the delay, upsetting many customers.
What’s so odd about this high-demand for the white front panels is that last years Moto X had a significantly higher demand for black panels over white ones. This just goes to show how the public’s taste in the way their smartphone looks changes over time. Motorola has said that a similar situation happened to the grey Moto 360’s, they were expecting the black variant to be in much higher demand when it was actually quite the opposite. This caused the grey Moto 360 to sell out much quicker than expected.
The guys over at PhoneArena are even saying that their 2014 Moto X they ordered 2 days before even the pre-ordering opened up is being delayed. This situation is pretty bad news for Motorola, a 4 week delay right in the middle of their new flagship phone launch. Last years Moto X didn’t sell as well as Motorola anticipated, this years launch of the new Moto X was their chance to redeem themselves but this delay is definitely going to hurt. We really hope that Motorola can get things sorted out and maybe get Moto X’s with white front panels shipping out earlier than 4 weeks so that this can end up being a great launch for the manufacturer.

Now its all well and good that the big releases from Samsung and Motorola are being released and available to pre-order. However, these are all rather big priced devices and you do need a few Bitcoins in your pocket to be able to buy most of them. So what about the other end of the spectrum? Devices that are more pocket friendly? Well Archos (remember them?) have today released two new budget smartphones from their Platinum range, the Platinum 50b and 45c. Both devices are equipped with a 1.3Ghz MediaTek MT6582 Quad-Core processor, both devices come with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. In terms of the differences let’s see what the two devices offer separately.
The 50b was actually announced just before IFA and comes with a 5” QHD screen with a 960 x 540 resolution. The 50b offers an 8MP rear camera as well as 2MP front shooter. In addition, the device comes with 1900mAh battery. In contrast the 45c is a slightly cheaper unit and as such comes with a slight decrease in terms of the specs. The first noticeable difference is the screen which on this device is a 4.5” IPS display with an 854 x 480 resolution. Similar to the 50c the 45c again offers a 2MP front camera, but the rear camera on this device is only 5MP. Again the battery is also slightly more limited on the 45c with a 1700mAH battery.
In terms of pricing both devices are extremely reasonable with the 45c going on sale for $99 while the larger of the two the 50b will come with a slight premium, priced at £119. Both devices offer dual-SIM support and will run on Android 4.4 (KitKat). If you are interested in a customization than both devices offer swappable back covers with the colors on offer including ‘deep black’, ‘metallic blue’ and ‘spicy pink’. So with all the Samsung and Motorola talk recently is there anyone out there interested in a much cheaper handset? How does the Archos latest offerings sound? With only $20 between the two devices would anyone want to buy the smaller and more limited 45c? Let us know what you think

Looks like we’ve got another Nexus 6 “leak” going on right now. It appears to be a mirror image of the press render we saw yesterday. Which many of us thought was fake because the power buttons weren’t the same size and a few other things. But now we are actually seeing a device that looks like a big Moto X next to the LG G3. This is actually coming from the comments in Android Police’s post from last night about the press render.
There’s not much new here, except we actually see the device next to the LG G3. Otherwise it looks exactly like the Moto X, just a lot bigger. It looks like the power and volume buttons are in the same spot as they were on the render from last night. And the dimple is kinda there, but not really. We do have that camera with the flash ring (which I personally liked). The specs we heard last night was a 5.9-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (also there was word of a 64GB version). So it looks like Motorola and Google are really stepping up the specs on this one, if these specs are indeed true.
Now it’s important to remember that this could very well be a fake. As companies do make prototypes all the time, especially when they are working on a new device. I know a lot of people are hoping for a larger Nexus, and a lot of others don’t want one. But it’s looking more and more like we’re going to have a Nexus phablet (the 5.9-inch version here) and then a Nexus smartphone which would be around 5.2-inches. It would definitely be a first for both Motorola and Google. What do you guys think? Real deal? Let us know in the comments below.

Low-cost devices are becoming more popular by the day. Meizu MX4 is a good example, a flagship device which has a rather affordable price. Actually many devices coming out of Asia are a good example, Xiaomi Redmi 1S is yet another great example. Statistics showed us that high-end smartphone market is relatively saturated and sales have been declining slowly when it comes to those devices. On the other hand, low-mid range phone sales have been through the roof lately, OEMs have been price-aware and have been manufacturing some really competitive devices for extremely affordable prices.
Motorola CEO, Rick Osterloh, seems to think that $600-700 phones will perish from the smartphone market in the coming years. Price is becoming more of an issue for consumers and it’s no wonder quality affordable smartphones have been selling so well. I’m sure each one of you has a different opinion when ti comes to this subject though you can’t deny the fact that affordable phone sales have been on the rise lately. This is of course market-dependant, but if we look at the whole thing globally then this is a fact.
I personally always consider the price of a smartphone before I buy it and am not one to buy something extremely expensive just because it’s popular or something, I just look for what suits my needs. You might say I’m an Android purist, but Nexus devices have always fulfilled all my needs and have done so at rather affordable price points while offering me great performance. Asian, Indian and South American markets are huge and low-cost phones sell there the most, so it is no wonder low-cost phone sales have been on the rise lately.
We can talk statistics all we want but there’s no use, people buy what they want / can afford and the three aforementioned markets have a great influence on global sales numbers for sure. I’d like to hear from you on this matter though, which device do you now carry and do you consider the price before you purchase a smartphone? Do you want to purchase something more expensive and you can’t afford it or do you have just the phone you want?

Google will update developer distribution agreement for the Play Store today, and two significant changes are in store. First, developers of paid apps will now be required to respond to users contacting them within 3 days of receipt of the email. How strictly Google plans on enforcing this is unclear, but it's likely the ominous Google Play ban-hammer will be a motivating (read: intimidating) factor for developers here.
For paid Products or in-app transactions, you must respond to customer support inquiries within three (3) business days, and within 24 hours to any support or Product concerns stated to be urgent by Google.

Putting your fantastic and revolutionary product up for sale before you actually finish it seems to be a surefire way to get some extremely unhappy customers - just ask anyone who's backed a gadget on Kickstarter. Coin, the electronic credit card that can save all of your various debit, credit, and loyalty cards at once, has cause to reflect on this today. The company released its official Android app for managing the card, and the response has been somewhat less than positive.
