Verizon’s LG G4, G3, and HTC One M9 are Probably Getting Marshmallow Tomorrow

Today, Verizon updated its “Advanced Devices Software Updates” list, showing that the LG G4, G3, and HTC One M9 are all scheduled to receive updates tomorrow, February 16. For whatever reason, they didn’t actually update any of the individual support pages for each device (maybe because it’s still the 15th), so (officially) we don’t necessarily know what the updates are for. My guess – they are all Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Well, the updates for the G4 and One M9 should be Marshmallow.

I say that for a couple of reasons. One, because HTC’s Mo Versi took to Twitter at the end of last week to announce that the Marshmallow update for the One M9 on Big Red had received “approval” and would begin on February 16. I mean, it doesn’t get much more real than that, right?

On the other hand, LG has been rolling out Marshmallow updates to almost every single carrier variant of the G4, outside of Verizon’s. In other words, Verizon’s G4 is the last man standing and seemingly, should be ready for Android 6.0. If it isn’t Marshmallow tomorrow, then, lord save us.

As for the LG G3, it could be anything, including a security update. With that said, a handful of Verizon LG G3 owners did receive the update to Marshmallow back in January, so we know that Verizon is at least testing it and may be close to pushing it out. I’m not necessarily a betting man, but it wouldn’t shock me to see Big Red make G3 owners happy tomorrow.

Verizon phone owners, get ready for Android 6.0.

We’ll keep you posted if/when Verizon gives us updated release notes for each phone tomororw.

Here are the Newest Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Pictures

Over the weekend, with just a week to go until Samsung unveils each at Mobile World Congress (MWC), new press renders of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge leaked out, giving us looks at the set of colors we expect to see in stores. Thanks to pictures from @evleaks of each, we are seeing silver, gold, and black models of the S7 Edge, along with black and gold models of the regular S7.

The images show both front and backs of each phone, though they don’t necessarily reveal new features. In the end, these phones are going to look a heck of a lot like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, only with rounder bodies that hold bigger batteries. The black version may also be black instead of the deep blue we got last year.

The internals, of course, will be quite different from last year. You can read about the specs of each here.

Here they are:

Samsung Details New Galaxy Edge Functionality Thats Come With Marshmallow

Samsung says to expect Android 6.0 Marshmallow to start rolling out to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in select areas on February 15. While they didn’t provide much in the way of details for each update (new features, which models, etc.), they did announce a bunch of enhancements for the the S6 Edge and its Edge display.

After the update users will be able to swipe out a wider, 550px panel for viewing more Edge content. That’s essentially doubling the panel’s width, allowing you to take in bigger score updates for sports, stock updates, and news stories. Samsung is also adding up to 9 panels in the apps and contacts Edge displays (from just 2), doubling the apps panel from 5 to 10 apps, and is including a task panel (for creating calendar events, sending emails, adding alarms, etc.).

Samsung added in a new tools panel with ruler, compass, and flashlight, plus they are letting you customize the Edge handle, which is the tab on the edge of the display that swiped to give you access to Edge content. The new handle can be resized, moved, and turned transparent.

Again, all of these new features will be a part of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. We are expecting them to be a part of the Galaxy S7 Edge’s list of features as well.

Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Marshmallow Update Starts February 15

It’s almost as if Samsung listens to the DL Show. After complaining about Samsung’s lack of communication when it comes to the status of updates for their phones, the Korean electronics giant pushed out a press release this morning to announce that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will begin to receive the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow on February 15.

What does that mean for your phone, you are probably wondering? Samsung says that “separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.” In other words, we could see unlocked international variants receive the update starting February 15, but carrier models could be a while. Samsung will announce more specific times as updates are ready.

In terms of new features, the only specific items that Samsung is sharing relate to the S6 Edge’s display. The update will introduce a handful of enhancements to the Edge display We saw mentions of the new functionality on a Samsung’ developer page a few weeks back, but weren’t sure if these would arrive before the S7 Edge or not. You can read more about the new Edge functionality here.
