Quick Look: New Samsung Gear S2 Classic Models, Rose Gold and Platinum

Looking for big Android news at this year’s CES? You won’t find any. What we are seeing are previously announced Android or wearable related products being given new life with new colors and finishes and price tags. For example, here we have the Samsung Gear S2 Classic in two new finishes of 18K rose gold and platinum.

Nothing is different from these over the original Gear S2 Classic except for the finishes, but hey, here they are anyway. Both are quite beautiful in person, in case you aren’t impressed by the set of pictures we have for you below. And yes, that rotating bezel still feels as good as ever.

Samsung didn’t announce pricing for these, but the original Gear S2 Classic retails for $350. With 18K rose gold and platinum touching these cases, I’d imagine they’ll be more than $350.

You should be able to buy both come February.

Quick Look: Casio Smart Outdoor Watch

We dropped by the Casio booth at CES today, where the company’s newest connected device was proudly on display, the Smart Outdoor Watch. Powered by Android Wear, the Smart Outdoor Watch is designed for those who need to be outdoors exploring nature, whether it be for camping, hiking, fishing, or any other outdoor activity.

As for first impressions, considering how large the body is, the watch was surprisingly light. The overall design reminds me somewhat of a G-Shock, and of course, is quite large looking on my wrist. The watch comes preloaded with a ton of watch faces, as well as features that will help you out in the wild, such as a pressure sensor and fully functional compass.

At the 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock positions are dedicated buttons for certain functionalities. You can access your step counter, additional apps, and compass by pressing these buttons. The buttons are made large enough so that a user who is wearing gloves can still easily access them, which is a nice touch.

Below, check out our gallery of hands-on photos.

If you are ready to take this device out into the woods with you, it launches in April for $499.

Quick Look: New Huawei Watches, the Elegant and Jewel

After cruising around the Huawei booth and spending time with the company’s new tablet, we also snapped a few pics of their new Huawei Watch models, the Elegant and Jewel.

Created with a feminine flair “for ladies,” the Jewel and Elegant feature slimmer bands, sparklier curved cases with rose gold, and new watch faces, along with the premium specs of the original Huawei Watch. Nothing else is all that different from the original, so really, just think of these as slimmer and trimmer alternatives to the more masculine model. Well, and don’t forget that the Jewel has actual Swarovski crystals in it. Boom.

Both watches are set to launch during Q1 of 2016, with the Elegant priced at $499 and the Jewel priced at $599.

T-Mobile to Sell BlackBerry Priv on January 26, LG K7 Coming Soon

T-Mobile’s John Legere announced availability of the BlackBerry Priv for the carrier this morning, stating that BlackBerry’s Android device will become available on January 26. At this time, exact pricing is unknown, but the Priv is not the only new device coming to T-Mobile.

In addition to the Priv, one of LG’s latest, the K7, is also set to hit T-Mobile “soon.” The K7 was announced by LG at CES this week, and should be an affordable, entry-level device for all budgets.

For those on T-Mobile, and who need a dedicated keyboard on their smartphone, the Priv is coming.

As pricing and exact details are announced, we will update you.

Quick Look: Huawei MediaPad M2 10

Huawei announced the MediaPad M2 10 yesterday, so we stopped by their booth here at CES to spend a bit of time with it. It should arrive in the US during Q1 as a WiFi-only unit priced near $349, though Huawei tells us the pricing information we saw yesterday could change before launch.

As a recap the MediaPad M2 10 sports a 10-inch 1920×1200 IPS LCD display, 2GHz Kirin 930 octa-core processor, 2GB or 3GB RAM depending on the model, 16GB or 64GB storage depending on the model, microSD slot, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 6660mAh battery, and a body that is just 7.35mm thick.

We – obviously-  only spent a few minutes of time with it, but the Kirin processor seems plenty fast as does the UI. Huawei does use a pretty heavy iOS-like skin on top of Android, though, so that’s something one would have to get used to should they jump into this tablet. But you’ll find multi-window, massive amounts of customizable settings (like swiping to move the navigation buttons around), all of Google’s apps, fingerprint reader, advanced audio, and a really solid build. Oh, some markets will also get a stylus, like the one seen above.

Overall, the MediaPad M2 10 seems like it could be a really great tablet. Of course, you need to be the type who finds a tablet useful to care, but should you fall into that category, and assuming the price locks in close to what was mentioned yesterday, this could be a steal.

Letv’s Le Max Pro is First to Feature the Snapdragon 820

The Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm is now in the wild, available first on the Letv Le Max Pro smartphone. Not only will buyers benefit from increased processing speeds of Qualcomm’s latest silicon, but the Le Max Pro also features Snapdragon Sense ID, the mobile industry’s first comprehensive ultrasonic-based fingerprint biometric solution.

Snapdragon Sense ID now includes a liveness detection feature, which helps to ensure that an actual finger is being used for biometric authentication, making it quite difficult to spoof the tech. The Le Max Pro is the first commercial device to ship with this feature baked inside.

According to Jun Liang, chief operating officer at Letv, “Letv has already established itself as one of the world’s top innovators and our decision to include the Snapdragon 820 processor in these new devices demonstrates our commitment to creating and delivering the best technology available to our customers,”

As for the Snapdragon 820, we have already gone over its features in details, but the highlights are X12 LTE modem, Adreno 530 GPU, Kyro CPU, and Quick Charge 3.0 compatibility. Although, the Le Max Pro comes with Quick Charge 2.0 support.

For US consumers, the Le Max Pro will not be available for purchase, but with it now being 2016, we can expect a range of new devices to launch with the processor inside.

Google Announces New Android TV and Cast Speaker Partners, Multi-Room for Cast Speakers

With doors opening for CES this morning, another wave of announcements has hit our inbox, one of which is from Google. In the post, Google announced new partners for its Android TV and Google Cast audio/speakers products that should deliver options later in 2016.

For Android TV, you can already buy TVs with the Android smart fun from Sony, Sharp, and Philips. Later in the year, Arcelik, Vestel, RCA, Hisense, TCL, and Bang & Olufsen will sell Android TVs too.

With Google Cast audio and speakers, we’ll soon see B&O Play, Harman Kardon, Onkyo, Philips, Pioneer, and Raumfeld join Sony and LG with Cast-ready products.

Alongside news of the new partners, Google also announced that Google Cast speakers will soon get the multi-room playback that Chromecast Audio received back in December. With multi-room playback, you can play the same song on multiple speakers located in different rooms of your house.

AT&T Confirms: GoPhone Prepaid Buckets Increasing to 5GB and 2GB

UPDATE 1/6: AT&T reached out and confirmed the changes to us. The only difference is the new plans and upgraded data bucket amounts will be live on January 8, not January 6 as we originally reported.

Tomorrow, AT&T will introduce some changes to their prepaid plans that include more data without a price hike, according to sources of ours.

The $60 GoPhone prepaid plan from AT&T will jump from 4GB of high-speed data per month to 5GB. The $45 GoPhone prepaid plan is jumping from 1.5GB of high-speed data per month to 2GB.

If these changes are like the data bucket increases we have seen in the past, you should be automatically jumped up to the new amount on your next billing cycle following the change.

On a related note, the $0.10 per minute prepaid talk plan is jumping up to $0.25 per minute. If you are currently using the $0.10 plan, you will be able to keep it for now.

Again, the changes should be announced tomorrow, January 6.
