LG to unveil L Fino and L Bello at IFA in Berlin, designed for growing 3G markets

LG L Fino and L Bello Series 4 and Series 5

LG has announced that they will be bringing two new L series phones to IFA in Berlin in September. The phones, the L Fino and L Bello, are being called “powerful alternatives to higher-priced smartphones” and are geared toward emerging markets.

The phones are 3G capable and will begin shipping in Latin America, with some countries in Europe, Asia and CIS to follow. Pricing and availability will be announced in the local markets at the time of launch.

Both phones will have LG’s rear button layout, as made popular on the higher end G2 and G3 devices. 8MP rear camera sensor with LG’s proprietary camera software promise fast and high quality photo capture, plus a handful of LG’s other unique connectivity features, like Knock Code and support for QuickCircle Case promise a premium experience.

LG L Fino LG L Bello for IFA Berlin

LG L Bello

  • 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor

  • 5-inch 854×480 display

  • 1GB of RAM

  • 8GB internal storage

  • 8MP rear, 1MP front camera

  • 2540mAh battery

  • Android 4.4.2 KitKat

  • HSPA+ 3G

  • White, Black, Gold

LG L Fino

  • 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor

  • 4.5-inch 800×480 display

  • 1 GB of RAM

  • 4GB internal storage

  • 8MP rear, VGA front camera

  • 1900mAh battery

  • Android 4.4.2 KitKat

  • HSPA+ 3G

  • White, Black, Gold, Red, Green

While phones of this caliber often fail to impress in comparison with the higher end flagship phones that we always read about, vendors like Motorola have found great success with similarly equipped inexpensive phones in the Moto E and Moto G. We’ll have to see these new L phones in action, but the 8MP camera certainly promises a slightly different focus, and advantage, for the same segment of users.

We’ll be bringing you coverage from IFA in Berlin, stay tuned, I’m sure we’ll have more to share about the LG L Fino and LG L Bello from the show in September.

Were you looking forward to another set of L line budget phones from LG, or is the market about saturated already?

Flappy Bird Successor Swing Copters Is Live In The Play Store, Please Refrain From Hurling Your Phone

sc You have a opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the latest gaming craze to sweep the nation—Swing Copters. It's like Flappy Bird, but vertical. Yeah, it goes up instead of to the right. Revolutionary. This is the second game from Dong Nguyen of .GEARS Stuidos, and will presumably be the first one he doesn't unpublish for mysterious reasons in a few months. It's free with ads, but the supposed in-app purchase to remove them doesn't seem to be present in the Android version.

Motorola is possibly releasing eight new devices before Christmas

Motorola_Smartphone_Unknown_01

Its no secret that Motorola are refreshing their flagship Moto X and mid-range Moto G models by the end of the year. We’ve also been led to believe that they will be manufacturing the Nexus 6 (codenamed Shamu). If that wasn’t enough, rumors have emerged indicating up to five more new phones from the Lenovo-owned manufacturer, including a Star Wars-themed Droid.

The full list is as follows:

  • Droid

  • Droid Maxx

  • Droid Turbo

  • Moto S

  • Moto G

  • Moto X+1

  • Moto X Play

  • Nexus 6 (Shamu)

Now here is where things get tricky, a couple of these devices may only see the light of day if the Moto X+1 is successful. If the X+1 flops, the 5.2-inch X Play could adopt the Moto S moniker and the 5.9-inch device that was supposed to carry that name could get scrapped altogether. Additionally its all but guaranteed that the Droid line will be Verizon exclusives, but its possible that they’ll be released on other carriers under different monikers early next year. Let us know in the comments what you think of Motorola’s big plans.

The Latest Google Glass Update Lets You View Entire Contact Log

AH Google Glass

Announced on their Google Plus page, the Google Glass team has released a new Glass update that will let you access all of your phone contacts. Your top 20 contacts will soon be just a swipe away with this new firmware update as your entire list of phone contacts will be available to you in a simple format. The first 20 contacts available will be your starred or most recent, while the rest of your contacts you will have to swipe for. Before this update, the previous versions only let you access 10 contacts on glass. Now they have bumped up the contact limit to 20, letting you see more people which is awesome.

Getting access to more contacts from your phone is just the start. In addition to having your entire phone contacts displayed right before your eyes, the new update also lets you choose different forms of contacting the many people you know. According to the Google Plus post, “When you tap on one of your contacts, you can now switch between Hangouts, email or SMS – whichever strikes your fancy at that moment.” Switching between different contact methods were thrown in because explorers wanted another option that enabled them to choose how to message them — hence this newly added feature.

Overall, the new firmware update is simple, easy, and intuitive. For any Glass explorers out there, the update is merely around the corner. For all Android users out there, the contacts update will be in the next Glass update which should be out right now. For iOS users who are rocking a pair of Google Glass, they will have to get the latest MyGlass app which will be available in the next week or so. As you all know, Google Glass is still in beta which means there will be tons of newly added features. If you have been following us on news about Google Glass, you will already know that the perceived dorky pair of glasses from Google just gets better with each update. If you are excited about the new feature, you can go here to retrieve detailed directions on how to get started with the new feature. In the meantime, share your thoughts a with us about the latest firmware.

Rumor: Motorola Said To Launch 8 New Phones Before The Christmas Season

AH Motorola Logo 1.0

With Motorola poised to be releasing the Moto 360 here soon,(believed to be in the coming weeks with September 5th as the highly speculated date)there’s a lot of attention being focused on Motorola to bring the same experience to the wearables scene as they did with smartphones in the Moto X, Moto G and Moto E devices from last year. The Moto 360 is not the only device that we’re apparently to expect from the once Google owned company though, as there have been leaks and reports to suggest other devices as well like a Motorola branded Nexus(if true, FINALLY!)a device seemingly codenamed Motorola Shamu or otherwise Moto S, and the much anticipated Moto X+1 that we’ve been hearing about for months on end now. There’s also the Moto G2 that is expected, and more recently we have seen some leaks that point to possible new Motorola Droid devices potentially landing on Verizon as well as the Moto X Play. Take everything in here with a huge grain of salt, as they’re all rumors at this point, but speculating can be fun so we can at least talk about the possibilities.

That last bit is to be expected, as Verizon has long been known for the exclusive “DROID” line devices on their big red network and why should it ever change? The interesting thing is that rumors state that is exactly what might happen, with AT&T being the potential carrier to pick up all three future Droid devices alongside Verizon, although under a different branding. That would in effect still keep the Droid name or brand itself exclusive to Verizon. The Droids rumored to launch next from Motorola are the new Droid, Droid Maxx, and the Droid Turbo.

What might perhaps be the most compelling piece of information about all of these new devices coming from Motorola is that they’re said to be getting released before Christmas. That’s eight total new devices in the form of new Motorola phones, and we can bump that up to nine devices if you count in the Moto 360 smartwatch running Android Wear which is like we stated above, suggested to be getting a launch date of September 5th or soon there after. For us, the most exciting devices to learn about will be the Moto 360, the Moto Nexus(once again if true)and the Moto Shamu(moto S), because the name just makes it sound intriguing. Take all of this information as you will, but as we enter into the Fall season some more details may begin to line up.

Intel And Unity Have Partnered Up To Add x86 Processor Support To The Unity 3D Game Engine

thumb

Today, the CEO of Unity Technology David Helgason announced a collaboration with Intel to add x86 support to the company's wildly popular Unity 3D game engine. The news was presented during the keynote speech at the Unite 2014 game developers conference alongside announcements for upcoming support of Samsung's Smart TVs and Google's Android TV.

Helgason delivered the information pretty quickly, but it's not the kind of thing that requires a long introduction.

June And July Network Latency Stats Show Comparisons Between The Four Major U.S. Carriers

CellTower

When we think about the speed of a network, whether that be our home wifi network or more commonly these days, our wireless carrier’s network, the big focus tends to fall on how fast we can download that next batch of images or that really huge game file. Network download and upload speeds are certainly important, but they aren’t the only factors that matter when it comes to the network speeds. Lest we forget the network latency speeds which can actually impact the user experience more than one might think.

For the uninitiated, latency is the time it takes for the server to send a packet of data to the receiver, in this case, your cell network being the receiver, and the server being wherever you’re grabbing files from. Let’s use the Play Store as an example for the server , with the new upcoming Foo Fighters album as what you’re trying to download or stream, and we’ll just pretend that it’s already out. Your wireless networks data speeds will determine how fast you can download that album, but the latency is how long it takes the Play Store server to contact your network with that packet of data so you can grab it for download or stream it to listen to it right then and there. The speed of access to download the file is of course just one example and really latency plays a bigger role in effecting the user experience during activities such as online gaming and things like streaming media e.g. movies and music.

Thanks to Fierce Wireless and OpenSignal, we have a clear picture of the latency speeds between all four major U.S. wireless carriers, shown over a series of two months to contrast improvements month over month and between the four providers. There is raw data if you just want to look at the numbers,(you can find that by hitting the source link)as well as charts to display things more graphically for those that are more comfortable reading data that way which we have included down below. According to the most recent display, which is from the months of June and July, AT&T seems to be the carrier with the lowest latency over LTE speeds, and T-Mobile comes in second. Verizon takes up third place and of course that leaves Sprint to bring up the rear with the highest latency speeds over their 4G LTE network. When it comes to the 3G chart, we can see that once again AT&T and T-Mobile take the top two spots for lowest network latency, with Sprint and Verizon Wireless also taking up the same spots as they do for their LTE networks. Some people may never notice the latency speeds that their network contains, but it’s nice to see how each of the four major carriers stack up.

Utter Failure Of Kreyos Smartwatch With $1.5 Million In Backing Shows The Continued Perils Of Hardware Crowdfunding

kreyos3

Crowdfunding complex hardware is risky business, and it seems that risk is something backers of the Kreyos Meteor smartwatch are becoming all too familiar with.

The Kreyos smartwatch (red flag #1) began as a flex-funding campaign (red flag #2) on Indiegogo (red flag #3) in July of 2013. After raising $1.5 million - $1.4 million more than their original goal - Kreyos set to work creating its seemingly well-funded, purportedly unique product.
