LG has officially announced the follow-up to last year’s curved G Flex, and it has some pretty big improvements over the original. The phone still features a curved screen and self-healing materials, but the hardware has been bettered across the board.
The curved display on the G Flex 2 is a full 1080p P-OLED screen with a popping 403ppi. The internals are competitive for 2015, including 2 GB of RAM with a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor. The Snapdragon 810 is the latest and greatest from Qualcomm with two quad-core CPUs and support for viewing 4k video. The G Flex 2 is one of the first major phones to sport the 810, so it’ll be interesting to see how it fares in real-world performance tests.
The internal storage options are either 16 or 32 GB, but LG is fully embracing the micro SD card slot again and including one in the G Flex 2. The camera is a 13-megapixel shooter and includes the optical image stabilization on the G3, and there are a handful of camera features and modes that have found their way onto the curved smartphone. LG was quick to show off selfie gestures on the camera that allow users to snap pictures and review photos.
Another major enhancement to the G Flex 2 is the healing materials that the phone is made out of. The original G Flex could heal minor scuffs and scratches within a few minutes, but that’s improved on the G Flex 2 to repair itself within just a few seconds, not minutes. Self-healing phone technology is cool no matter how you look at it, but the sped up process is very nice.
